UPDATE: I have been back to RT Clapp for routine service and because the AC was not working, something I was nervous about because the car has 160,000 miles on it and it could have been bad news, no matter where I took it. They needed a little more time to diagnose the problem, but kindly gave me the option of bringing it back when convenient for me; I chose to leave it overnight. They not only tried every possible solution, but did indeed fix the AC, at a reasonable cost. I was also pleasantly surprised at the detail I received (list of checkpoints; detailed invoice), and that they continued the courtesy service of rotating the tires since I had bought tires there under the previous owners. Super nice, friendly people there too. Love supporting local small businesses, but it's an added pleasure when they deserve it.While skeptical when any favorite business changes ownership (Jeff is a hard act to follow!), RT Clapp has not disappointed. The techs are great. So far so good!

I take my vehicle to RT anytime I need something worked on in Knoxville, and being a student it is always convenient, reasonable and a usually a QUICK turn around time. The guys over there do great work and are always nice and upfront with the issues.

I have used RT Clapp for years. I have several vehicles for my business and they do great work at great prices. Most repairs are next day which is very important in my business.

Probably the worst car repair shop experience of my life. We have been bringing all of our cars here for the past 15 years but never again. We bought 4 new tires from them about 3 months ago. Scheduling the service was a nightmare, I missed 2 days of work because they did not get to it on the day we made the appointment even though I dropped it off right after they opened. They didn t call to tell me it wouldn t be ready and there was no answer from repeated phone calls so I just had to go down there to find out that it would be another day. When I did get the car back, they tried charging $200 more than we were quoted and the car was all the sudden making a terrible noise (like it had no shocks or something) had to take it back 2 more times in the next few days and was told that it wasn t caused by anything they did but that they would take care of it . When we brought it in for the tire job, they said their alignment machine was down but that they had another shop they could take it to for that (also strange). They also told us they re-checked the alignment when we brought it back the first time. Fast forward to today and my 2 front, brand new, 3 month old tires are BALD! They did the alignment improperly if they did it all. We have been trying to bring it back to have the alignment checked for over a week now and finally today they said we could bring it in .same situation, no one contacted us all day and no one answered their phone. We went down there and they said they still hadn t been able to get it on the machine and just bear with them. We went back just before they closed and they said that the machine wasn t working and he pulled up our original receipt and said we weren t charged for the alignment originally so we should have known it wasn t done (even tho we were told TWICE that it had been done). Now we are going to have replace the 2 front tires only 3 months after buying them but are being told it s our problem. I really loved supporting this local business for years but now that it s been bought out they seem completely incompetent and uncaring.Update: we took it to Fisher tire the next day and they said it was one of the worst alignment jobs they had ever seen, and they didn t know how we were able to drive it at all. We got the problem taken care of there and will be giving them our business from now on, save yourself some headache and do not take your car to RT Clapp. They messed our car up and then tried to gaslight us about it. It is such a big contrast from the old management, and the way they used to do things, it s a shame.

Dropped off 2 control arms for a 04 lincoln ls. I had the bushing all that had to be done was pressed out and the new ones pressed in. There was a simple honest mistake, and they have been very understanding that there was a mistake on their end, and they have fixed this issue. If you have a problem, just talk to David. If it was their mistake, then they are very good about fixing it. Just communicate with them. Thank you, RT Clapp, and a big thanks to David. God bless

The problem I was having with my car, no one would do the work. My neighbor told me to go to R T Clapp and I did. They fixed the problem. Then with the cold weather, my starter went out and they fixed it in one day after I explained I needed to take my brother for a medical procedure. I will tell everyone about how well I was treated and how good their work is !!!!!!David is the person that helped me and explained everything, thanks David.

My only complaint was the amount of time it took to complete the job. The reception ladies were very nice and demonstrated a caring and concerned attitude. Will also showed concern about doing a good job as well as showing awareness of the charges that were not appropriate for this job. Micheal maintained his patience with his explanations to me throughout the ordeal and led me to believe all was being done to get the car fixed correctly.

The repair was good. An additional repair appeared on the way home from your shop: the left headlight only works on high beam. We need to return and have that fixed. What $ are we looking at?

I came here without a clue of what happened to my car. But when I walked in and met Josh I knew he d make sure it was taken care of and that s exactly what he did! He was great at communicating with me every step of the way and explaining it all in a way I understand but didn t feel stupid. Most mechanics shops see a woman and think they can get one over on you. Josh wasn t like this, he was kind and compassionate. I ll never go anywhere else and I ll only deal with Josh! I recommend asking for him when you go! Thanks RT Clapp!

My mother, 83, took her car to Firestone 10 years ago. I'm absolutely certain they took advantage of her age and gender. I took it to RT Clapp, for the exact same repair, which obviously, wasnt performed at Firestone, they, RT CLAPP, did more than invoiced at Firestone. Did coolant hoses, and several other things, a WHOLE lot more.. and 10 years of difference..$2086 at Firestone, RT Clapp, under $1400 and it's an easy look.. the gaskets they, (Firestone) didnt replace ,RT replaced, by necessity, due to failure issues Firestone didn't do, RT also completed the work, $100 under estimate. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.Service: Engine repair

I, like many others, have just moved to Knoxville, so I'm in the market for a trustworthy auto repair place. And, even though it's tough to live up to the original reputation of the former owners, I do have to say that Michael, Jennifer, and the Clapp Repair Center staff are willing to resolve issues quickly and fairly--an important aspect of keeping clientele/developing a mutually-beneficial business relationship. Without going into a many details about the experience, I will say, again, that all is great and I will be visiting them, with our 2 vehicles, again.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine tuning, Battery

I have been using RT Clapp for nearly 20 years and have always had fantastic service. Since Jeff left, now every time I call I can t even get anyone on the phone anymore and they do not return calls. It is very unfortunate that their customer service has gone down the drain in such a short amount of time. It s very disappointing when I ve had such a great relationship with this business in the past.

I had an appointment to drop off my car between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on September 22 to have my rear brakes replaced. I dropped my car off at 7:45, and I was told they would call me to let me know the results of the inspection and to quote me a price. At 12:45, five hours later, I still hadn't heard from them, so I called for a status update. Jennifer told me they were just about to pull my car in and they would contact me shortly. I still hadn't heard anything at 3:00, 2 hours before the shop closes for the day, so I called to check on the progress. At that point they told me that they hadn't touched my car at all and wouldn't be able to get to it that day. That was a conversation that should've happened on the 12:45 call so I could've made plans for how to get home from work. Telling me they were just about to pull it in at 12:45 makes them dishonest, and letting my car sit for nearly 8 hours without contacting me with a status update, especially to tell me the car would need to sit overnight (for a brake job), makes them unreliable. The change in ownership at this shop is obvious. I'll never be back.

Explained everything and walked me threw it with ease. I had to work while they fixed my cars and they called and kept me in touch with processes and if they found any problems I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!! If you are looking for a trustworthy auto shop, look no further. RT Clapp has quickly become my go-to mechanic. They are quick to determine the issue, and they fix it for a fair price. They always make sure that you know the cost before making any repairs. HIGHLY recommend!!!

My regular mechanic did not have a specialty tool to change out the wheel bearing on my car noting that it would be difficult due to rust for whoever did it. We took it to a second mechanic who quoted several thousand dollars plus many additional recommendations. Finally took it to RT Clapp who did the repair for several hundred dollars which is about what I expected. We also purchased new tires at the time. Several weeks later I noticed one of the tires was low. We took it back in and they replaced a leaky valve stem free of charge. Work was done as promised and on time and they stood behind it when we had the issue with the tire. Very friendly.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance
