This was a good place for exploring the area. Once you are in the campground, you don't feel like you are near a big city. Our pull through site was level and a good size length and width. The hot tub and dog park were good. The bathrooms/ showers were clean. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. It has easy access to major roads to Custer State Park. The best place to get firewood is Safeway in town.

Website needs to more clearly indicate seasonal closure. Banner across the top for the location would be more helpful than having to try to make a reservation only to find dates blacked out. Disappointed to see KOA chooses to close completely during off season instead a partial closure or reduced facilities especially since there are billboards all over I90 advertising the KOA locations. Maybe the billboards need to change seasonally? We have that technology now!

Easy access & close to attractions. Busy place which is to be expected for the location. Sites are close. Sewer hookups are practically under next site's picnic table... Kind of gross. Staff are not overly friendly but helpful when needed. There was one staff that actually yelled at us and shook his finger as we were trying to navigate through the campground, very upsetting. The rows are not marked which way to go & confusing during busy times when folks are coming and going. Hard to dry off and dress on wet shower floors, mats would be nice.

This was the best KOA that we stayed at during our trip and we stayed at 6 different KOA's during our trip. The park was very clean and a lot bigger then it initially looks. The pool area was outside but was a very nice pool area with a big spa. They had 2 laundry rooms and they had individual showers that looked like they were recently renovated. They offered breakfast for a small fee and it was good and very reasonably priced. We would go back again if we are ever in the area again.

Great KOA with amazing sites. We had a paved patio with a metal table and chairs. Our site had lots of grass and even a nice planter with flowers in it. Plenty of room on our site with enough room to set up cornhole. The pool was clean and the playground was great for the kids. This location was ideal for being able to visit the national parks and Mount Rushmore.

Good spots, nice prices, good amenities. Got us in on short notice and was very thankful. Laundry was busy, but decent price (2.50). Would stay again.Nearby activities: Everything you can think of is nearby.

Best experience I have had staying at a KOA! I had written KOA off as a place to stay when traveling, but the Rapid City/Black Hills staff changed my mind! I was treated with kindness and professionalism and really felt welcome!! I didn t get her name, but her glasses matched the yellow KOA shirt and she was exceptional when checking me in, providing information and at check out! What a welcome change, esp during the busy months when staff is swamped. My cabin was clean, quiet and close to the bathrooms/showers. The only thing I didn t care for were the co-ed showers and close proximity between the bathroom and shower stalls, although they did lock from the inside. Besides that it was a perfect stay and I look forward to visiting again soon! Bonus -dog friendly and pancake breakfast!Safety: Felt safe inside my cabin and on the grounds. Plenty of staff available to help with any questions or issues.Food & drinks: On-site for purchase pancake breakfast available with additional choices like scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon!

Great camping location for everything in the Black Hills of SD. There are now a large number of patio sites for people wanting a bit of an up class camping experience. The pool and spa are just wonderful. There are playgrounds for the kids. A regular pancake breakfast is available everyday and they are so good. We have stayed here in the past and will be back again.

Rapid City KOA Holiday is a well-maintained campground with clean and spacious sites. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the amenities are top-notch, including a really nice pool, hot tub, game room, and laundry facilities. You can also opt for the all you can eat pancake breakfast. The campground is also conveniently located near many attractions in the Black Hills area. Some sites are close together, Can be noisy during peak season, Prices can be highOverall, the Rapid City KOA is a great option for campers looking for convenience

We have stayed there many times. This time we pulled in and checked to see the site # so we'd know what to request. An Old lady jumped in her car and raced up on us and as we were turning around to go to the front office to reserve our site and pay, she was so RUDE. I said we like this # spot and she said, "oh that was you I was chasing down." And I replied we were just getting the site # and she said yeah I had to chase you down". I replied again, "noooo, we just wanted to make sure it was available and get the number. That's all. Then she tried to charge us $10 more than the online price and said it will be more If we use online booking for the campground. I put it thru anyway and it came up more than $10 cheaper. Maybe she gets a kickback. The pool is Very Nice. Showers and bathrooms are very clean.

If you own pets, stay clear of this KOA! They charge a $2 per pet fee and is absolutely ridiculous, especially if you're a responsible pet owner and bring your own doggy bags. KOAs absolutely ruins the camping experience for travelers with pets, which is the majority of the RV industry. I recommend looking for other alternatives besides this campground.

The standard full hookup pull through "red" sites on the map of the campground are all the same price; however, they are NOT the same quality in one section of the campground. We had stayed in this RV park in 2018 on the flat main section of the campground in one of these standard pull through sites. There the roads are well tended gravel, the sites are long enough to park a vehicle without having to "T" it in the front or back, and the grass on either side for the picnic table is lush, green and well tended. We booked again a standard "red" site for this year on January 18 for a late June stay of 4 nights. When we arrived, we were not in the main campground area, but rather on a carved out flat area in back of and below the campground main office complex and against the fence nearest the highway below. The road was just dirt and potholed. The grass between spaces was spotty and certainly not as well tended as the previously described standard sites. The view was a looming overhead back side of the office, a basketball court and a large dumpster, and the space was too short to park a vehicle without Teeing in front. Worst of all, it had rained and the entire area was full of mud and water filled potholes! We asked if any gravel could be brought down and a maintenance person said they had no gravel, but they brought down a carpet to cover the grass/mud. We later saw a fairly good sized pile of gravel in an opposite side of the park, to be used around the premium sites in that section we suppose? We were happy in 2018 with that KOA, but the management this time may have been different. Everything was charged...from the breakfasts, advertised as charged, to an ice cream social listed as an activity but not indicating a charge on the brochure. Had we booked at the last minute, I could understand our site assignment, but given a booking for end of June that was made on January 18, I'm not at all happy. We do not plan to return to this KOA and would not recommend it to others. My recommendation is to either make a dog park of that entire lower section or improve the drainage and charge less for those lower sites. Very disappointing campground!

Lots of goods and some bads here. It's easy to get to and a good location for going to a lot of fun places from there. However, that also means lots of traffic noises. We tent camped. We loved that we got a shaded picnic table, however the spot was shockingly small to me, but then again, I had never camped at a KOA before so maybe that is typical. Pool was nice, bathrooms decent. They had an arcade, which had very few choices, mostly variations on crane machines, and wasn't air conditioned. So not something you could spend a lot of time in.

Arrived 20 minutes early and was charged an extra $15 to check in. In addition to the $75 per night. Blatant price gouging. Shower had no hot water, clothes drier did not heat. I was surprised & disappointed with this KOA park. Usually they treat guests with courtesy & provide a good experience. I will not return.

Nice KOA to stay. Friendly staff that said they are contract and travel from one to the next. They say they heat the pool, but i question if they do. I know they have had more rain than normal. They could use a mower more often. We were there 5 days. In 5 days they mowed only a few sites. This was the first KOA that doesnt deliver firewood. If you want it you have to go get it yourself.

Great place to stay. Only here for a day, but worth it. Fantastic selection/variety in the store with friendly staff! Sewage hookup a bit too far back. Bathrooms/showers are an issue BUT not because of KOA. It's the guests and their brats trashing the place after the cleaners come through! And getting charged for being an hour early is bogus.Walkability: Flat, dirt roads.Food & drinks: Plenty of stuff and beer in store. Breakfast, etc. available.

I wouldn t recommend as a destination vacation, but as a road trip stopover it is convenient. Centrally located it is a fairly short drive to Mount Rushmore, Badlands, and Custer State Park. Bathrooms are clean and they hosted activities in the evening (ie: S More night, Wine tasting etc) Wifi is better than most KOAs I ve been to. Overall good except for two things.1. There is a written rule that you need to stay on the paths and you can t cut through the campsites. Twice we had a park employee cut right through the middle of our site as we were sitting outside.2. The garbage bins fill very quickly and by Thursday they are overflowing with bags stacked around them. They either need more frequent garbage pickup or more bins.

Good location, good size sites. Need to add more gravel to roads and sites as the mud is everywhere and plentiful. Restrooms need to be checked/cleaned more often. Frequently out of toilet paper. A little more attention to the little things would make this a much better campground.

We stayed here 5/11/22-5/16/22. We hadn t originally planned to stay here on our travels but we are glad we did! The park is very well maintained with a great store and awesome staff. Our site was huge and easily fit our 40 foot motorhome and 20 foot trailer with room to park our SUV. They have a nice little fenced in dog park with some obstacles for the dogs and a shaded bench for the humans! One thing that stood out was every morning the KOA had a breakfast at the pavilion that was really inexpensive and the pancakes were all you can eat. It was a unique and awesome touch. Overall great hospitality and I would for sure recommend it to anyone.

On vacation went to check into the campground. Got there 15 minutes early and they were going to change us $15.00 but after they knew the trouble we had getting into the campground they didn't change us. Clean bathroom/ Shower rooms. And laundry room was good and clean. Our camp site was close to the bathroom witch was nice with grandkids.

We were a little hesitant about staying here after reading some of the reviews but we had a wonderful stay. We stayed for 6 nights in a cabin and the entire staff was nothing but helpful and polite never discriminated against us for being a Native American family. They sent a reminder the day before saying please no early check in's which was no problem. People need to realize they need time to clean and get ready to make your stay welcoming also. We spent most of our time between the pool and playgrounds; all were very well taken care of and clean. We would definitely stay here again!

Staff was friendly mostly, facilities were fine for a KOA. Don't expect anything above and beyond and that's alright. Skip the pancake breakfast, they have a real wasp problem in that seating area.
