I don't often write reviews, but I just had to thank Honest Automotive for doing such a great job with our Honda Ridgeline. We were vacationing in Custer and our alternator went out on our truck. All of the shops in Custer and several in Rapid told us that it would be at least two weeks before they could even look at it. We called John and he was so helpful and said he would be able to order the part we needed and could install it the next day. He was able to get it done by the next morning and we picked up our truck and continued on with our vacation. Everyone in the shop was super nice and we were so happy with the service we received. We would highly recommend Honest Automotive!

Great work! Told him my concerns and what I knew to be wrong with the jeep. He did a thorough investigation, corrected the issues, and was honest about pricing. Ms. Peggy was also upfront and honest on pricing and wanting to wait a days time so we could access cheaper parts instead of being price gouged!Going back so he can finish the work I had no idea I needed!

After breaking down and being towed (Olson Towing) to Rapid City - I contacted Mckie Ford (2021 Ford Expedition Max 29,000 miles - with extended warranty) was told by the service department that they work by appointment only and they were 3 weeks out !!!Found Honest Auto Repair on line and called - Peggy answered and listened to our situation - the outcome was that John came and checked out the car - resulting in being towed to the shop for repair - resulting in our being able to drive back to Monroe Louisiana in our car- after a wonderful stay in Rapid City!!Thank You Thank You!!!You are more than 5 Stars to us !!!Sandra Banks

Took my truck in for a front end squeak. They told me it was because of a missing radiator bracket, 200 bucks to fix so I had it done. The same squeak is still there so I called them. I was told the mechanic would get back to me. This was three weeks ago.

I called Honest Automotive after I broke down with an oil leak in South Dakota. Their team stayed late and worked with me to diagnose and fix my vehicle quickly. They were upfront and HONEST with me the whole time. Peggy, was kind and accommodating. John, the head mechanic, solved the issue and documented the whole process. He made sure I knew exactly what happened and what actions to take going forward. Without this amazing group of people and their skills, I would have been stuck on the road for many more days. You were all a true blessing and I could not recommend this shop more.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

Drove 9 hours from central Minnesota and the driveshaft carrier bearing decided to go out when we got to hill city. Called the Hyundai dealer and they were booked for at least 6 weeks.Called Peggy from Honest Automotive at 9:30 and she said bring it in and we'll see if we can get it fixed for youThey didn't have the parts but were able to get a new driveshaft delivered and installed by 3:30 the same day! Life savers! We were able to continue our family vacation and enjoy the rest of the week off

John and his techs went out of their way to prioritize fixing my broken down car so I could get home to MN with minimal delay. The other repair shops were booked a week out and would not prioritize me despite being stranded in Rapid City. John and his techs did an outstanding job diagnosing and repairing despite various setbacks and challenges including finding parts. John's tech gladly explained in detail what the cause of the issue was and gave me updates throughout the diagnostic process. The price was VERY reasonable and they did diligence to make sure the issue was completely fixed. I cannot recommend them enough. John and the crew are awesome. John fixed the transmission trouble we were having while on a road trip. He was booked out a few weeks but fit us in so we could get back home. We have not had any trouble since!I highly recommend them! I was passing through Rapid City and needed someone to look at my transmission. He was unable to see me that day so I made an appointment for the following week. His associate looked at my car and made some determinations, then went back to work. After three hours without any action, I went to ask how much longer before they would begin working on it. He told me just to leave, and good luck finding anyone else.John has no ability to organize or plan his schedule and no staff to do it for him. They keep their doors closed with many cars parked right up against them. They are both under extreme stress and don't want to be bothered by customers.This place is only for people who can leave their vehicle there for an undetermined amount of time. Appointments mean nothing to them, they will get around to it when they have time, and whatever you do, don't ask any questions.

Probably the best experience I ve ever had with a mechanic. We are on a months long roadtrip in a conversion van, and we initially went in just to get brakes looked at. That was no big deal it was when we got to the top of Rushmore and our transmission melted down that they really saved us.John hooked me up with the best tow service in town (Olson s) and told me to tow it to his lot, even though at the time, he and every other mechanic were booked out 3 weeks.John worked overtime to get us back on the road he called in a specialist buddy of his to get the transmission rebuilt ASAP, and made sure he only ordered the parts we actually needed. I m pretty sure he bought him a bottle of scotch for the favor. One way or another, he had us back on the road long before we would have even had an appointment anywhere else.Did I mention that they let us stay in the van on their lot the whole time we were there? And on the day they were reinstalling the transmission, the van had to stay on the lift overnight. Despite hardly knowing us, and it being VERY MUCH not his problem, Mitchell (a mechanic who works there) invited us back to his place to camp out for the night.On top of all that, the price was MORE than fair. Can t thank these guys enough.USE HONEST AUTOMOTIVE.Services: Transmission, Brakes

John was very helpful to us when we had a minor repair travelling through Rapid City. He found a code that our truck computer left when the maintenance light came one, quickly found the replacement part, and made the repair. The labor charge was very reasonable. The markup on the part was a little steep, but understandable for a fast turnaround. We would definitely come back to Honest Automotive.Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

I was traveling across the country and stopped to have my brakes done. John went above and beyond to fit me in so i could get home safe. This shop actually cares about what they do and the people they help. If only this shop was in Washington state because there should definitely be more of them in the world. We were experiencing a noise in our vehicle and John managed to fit us in to get looked at in a timely manner, they did a thorough diagnostic and didn't charge us. He wanted to be sure we were safe on our trip back out of town and we felt confident in their decision and recommendations.

I had an appointment on the 20Dec21 for a lower intake oil leak and my window not going down on the driver side. Called made an appointment told them what was wrong and asking to get it done. Dropped off the 1999 Chevy S-10 on Monday the 13Dec. Got a call from John at the shop to confirm about the repairs and how much it will cost the next day on Tuesday. Then got a call on Thursday that the truck was done. Talked to John about another repair that i wanted and done next year sometime because the service was amazing. Thank you all at the shop. Honest Automotive lives up to all of these rave reviews! We were driving the last leg of a cross-country trip with bad brakes, very little time to stop and a 30 hour drive ahead of us. Drew, Joe and John were able to get us in and out promptly and professionally, for a great value. Beyond that, they were so welcoming and genuine. Could not be more thankful that we stopped here - if you re in the area, this is the place!!

Only place in town able to fit me in last minute. Worked with me a little with the price too, great customer service. He was very helpful and wasn't gonna charge for a diagnostic. Ended up getting it repaired with them anyways. Finished same day, both axle shafts, so I can continue on to Chicago. These guys are great! They treat you like friends, and do whatever they can to do the job well. We had our transmission fluid changed there, and had a small issue arise because of it. They got us in right away to fix the issue. There's no waiting room, so if I had to list a vice, it would be that. But we'll definitely use their services again, if the need arises. Great work, Honest Automotive!

Very very helpful people. Wife and I broke down while coming through the area on vacation. Called 3 other places and nobody was willing to work us in. Called Honest automotive and they said bring it on over, even though their day was already full. Drew did great work on my truck. John and Drew were so nice and willing to help us out, got us fixed up and back on the road for a very fair price. Overall I was extremely satisfied. They were very professional, very helpful , and at a great price

This place looked a little sketchy at first but Do Not judge a book by its cover. John was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and was able to get me in quickly to have my truck fixed. (Other places booked me out 2-3 weeks). He kept me up to date on all the details and was very reasonable with me. The truck has been running great for a good while with zero issues and I have nothing but good to say about John and his techs! Highly recommend!

My wife and I came to Rapid City for vacation. Our old Chevy would not hold its serpentine belt due to a damage power steering pump bracket. John searched for parts for our old truck with no avail. John straightened the old bracket and it now works as good as new. John even worked on Saturday to help us. I highly recommend Honest Automotive for your auto repair need.

I brought a 1978 motorhome with overhearing and rough idle issues to the crew at Honest Automotive. I have been dealing with this issue for years and recently traveling through the Badlands was extra difficult. John, Joe, and Drew were excellent regarding making time for me and getting me in the day I called for diagnostics. Within two days they had solved both problems at a very reasonable rate. I cannot recommend this shop high enough and they went above and beyond to get me back on the road quickly. Thank you!!!!!!

We are from Sioux Falls and here for a convention. Our brakes got bad very quickly and we were worried that we wouldn t make it back home safely. I found John on the Internet and saw that he had an excellent rating, so we called hoping and praying that he could get us in and could fix the problem. He did and I was very pleased with not only his work, but his awesome attitude and kind spirit. Thank you, John. You were a true life saver for us! Keep up the excellent work!

i was on vacation and my rear wheel bearings went out on my 1968 mercury . was recommended to honest automotive . it was a Saturday talked to John gave me his personal cell told me to call Sunday to see if they could get me in . I drove around looking at other shops everyone was booked for a couple weeks . Called John Sunday said bring it in first thing Monday they got me in and Rick worked on it. I was impressed that a young guy was so knowledgeable about old cars .Was treated with utmost respect . Was just like back in the day when places took care of the customer . I had forgotten some stuff I had purchased they were willing to mail it to me . Talk about taking care of customer . Was back on the road in no time and the car ran perfect . I had a bad experience with another auto repair shop. I called Honest Automotive and shared what happen to me with another shop. They were super nice to me and they fixed what needed to be done. I was very happy with how nice they are and the work they do. And the prices are good. Drew and John were awesome. I recommend this shop for your vehicle needs!!!! Thanks guys!

Honest automotive provided great service! They were very thorough with running through my problem (damaged exhaust manifold that was causing all sorts of engine codes) and once they determined what the cause was, they set expectations and explained the process of what they would need to do to fix it and possible complications that might arise. I drove an hour to get to their shop and hands down will do it again when I have more problems.Thanks for the awesome service!

Unfortunately I have to give a bad review. I brought my truck in to get the rear axle seals replaced since they were both leaking gear oil. They set me up quickly, and seemed very kind. Charged me 400 parts & labor and I got my truck back in a timely manner. Two weeks later, both seals were fully leaking again so I brought the truck back up to them and left it. All of a sudden they were too busy to look at it and I waited almost an entire month before picking it back up without them ever looking at it. They told me it was probably my shaft c-clips allowing play and ripping the seal. Weird, because my truck doesn't use c-clips and you have to take the the axle shaft out to replace the axle seal...so they had to know if they replaced the seals.I took the truck home and replaced both seals myself. It's been over a year now with no leaks from either axle seal. They either don't know what they are doing or didn't replace the seals at all and said they did. Either way, this is shop you should avoid.

We were on vacation in the Black Hills and arrived in Rapid City at the end of two solid days of driving with an unsettling noise coming from our engine/wheel area. We called the dealership for our vehicle, and multiple other garages and none had openings for a week. We were far from home, stranded, and ripe to be taken advantage of. John got us in, identified the problem and what would be necessary to repair it. He was fair and friendly, the cost was reasonable, and above all he was honest with us (as the name implies). Whether you are traveling and in need as we were, or live in the Black Hills, Honest Automotive is a trustworthy place to have service done.

When hubby says he's worried about the truck and how it sounds and we're out here on vacation I got worried. He did his research to see what shop around Rapid City would be worth it and Honest Automotive was the one he said he wanted. The reviews didn't lie. The guy, John helped us despite being busy already and got us on our way for a fair price! We all appreciate it a bunch!
