I was in Rapid City as a tourist and my car decided to act up. I contacted several mechanics and Halvorsen s bent over backwards to help me. My car basically was beyond repair, they also have used cars and sold me one at a reasonable price, and while they spruced my new car up they allowed me to borrow one of their cars to run errands around town. I recommend them to anybody in the area!

I highly recommend Halversen s! Super fast and very knowledgeable and also very reasonable. He has worked on my truck twice. I was in a tight pinch of a schedule to have the bedside replaced on my truck at another location on the same week my fuel pump went out. He got me in quickly and had it fixed in a very timely manner so that I could get it over to its other repair shop. Thank you Halversen s! I will most certainly recommend you Jordan S.

These guys saved our vacation! First day in Rapid City and the air conditioner stops on a 100F day. "Official" Jeep garage is too busy but I could drop off the Jeep and they will "get to it when they can". Called Halvorsen's second. Was told to bring it down right away, looked at it for a few minutes, gave me a quote and ordered the parts. They brought me back to the hotel and called me an hour later to say it was done. Fast, friendly and GREAT customer service. Highly recommend.Service: Air conditioning

My husband and I were traveling through the west for a long awaited vacation when our trucks fuel line started leaking in Custer state park. We got into rapid city and ordered the part from the local ford dealership but they couldn t do the repairs for weeks. We called halversons and he agreed to do it as soon as the part came in. We were so happy with how quickly he did the work and his fair prices. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that asks.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Good, honest hard working mechanic. We were on vacation from Iowa and my husband s truck started acting up. We thought it might be the wheel bearing. My husband called first thing in the morning and Mike got us right in. Mike called to say he took things apart and did not think there was anything wrong but just the difference in roads in SD. He then offered to ride with my husband in the truck to make sure he had addressed the issue. He did not try to sell us something we did not need. I really appreciate the honesty and prompt service. I cannot say enough about the great customer service.

While camping/vacationing in Hill City, SD our Lincoln Navigator went into "limp mode", with engine light on. We "limped" to Rapid City early next AM to dealership who refused to see us without appt, next available appt was in 3 weeks, offered no options! Found Halvorsen on Google search...through some divine intervention! Mike was awesome...went out of his way to fit us in same day, found the problem (throttle actuator), replaced it same day. Additionally he recommended local car rental when every national car rental had no vehicles. Shout out to local mechanic who was empathetic, fairly priced and very skilled!Service: Engine repair

Made an appointment to have my brake light checked and e brake tightened, appointment at 7:30am. This being my only car and me from out of state (I explained, needed to get in and out, which is why I made the appointment) Got there there was no waiting room, very dirty, disorganized, messy garage, already cars on the rack at opening. I Should of left then but was in need. Walked some distance to a TacoJohns to wait it out was told 2 hours, max wait. Waited 7 HOURS!!!!Was called to come pick up. Walked back. Was told bring cash I didn t. Was told they did a brake job, I d just had a brake job a month ago, my concern was the E brake, not brakes. I was sure brakes weren t the issue. When I got my vehicle the Brake light was still on and I was told not to use the emergency brake.Which is why I brought it in !!!Charged me $450.00 for not repairing my Jeep. And wouldn t give me the keys until I paid for the work that wasn t done.Dont know if this is how things work in South Dakota, but where I come from we call thisS T E E L I N G. Passing through the Black Hills when our car engine quit on us. None of the AAA shops could make room for us but the tow driver suggested Halvorsen s. They got us on the road the very next day and Mike even gave us a ride to a hotel. Great place. I wish their shop were in my home town!

My family came to Mt. Rushmore on a vacation and we pulled into our RV park with our borrowed RV making loud noises under the RV. I called around to multiple shops to have someone help us find out what was wrong and what needed to be done to stop the noise and check engine light. No one was willing to help until I spoke with Mike at Halvorsen s. He let me know that his shop was not big enough for the RV, but if we brought it by he would look at it outside and see what he could do to help. Mike took the time out of his day and found the problem. Mike knew it was not safe to drive so he fixed it quickly for a very good price and had us back on the road and helped save our vacation while giving us great peace of mind. Mike was very honest, knowledgeable, and helpful. If I lived in Rapid City Mike would be my mechanic. THANK YOU MIKE!!

We are a non-profit organization that serves individuals with disabilities in Casper, WY. A group of 4 staff and 4 individuals in wheelchairs were enjoying a weekend vacation in the Black Hills when the wheelchair bus broke down Saturday evening in the Mount Rushmore parking lot. Rapid City tour bus companies got our people safely back to their hotel and Halvorsen's Auto Repair worked Sunday and then Monday from 6 AM until the afternoon to get the bus fixed so they could return home. He really saved the day! We are so grateful.Service: Engine repair

I'd highly recommend Halvorsen's to anyone needing car service in Rapid City. In addition, those who are from out of town on vacation should contact this place first. They are trustworthy, respectful and timely. I appreciated the ways in which they went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. They worked expeditiously on my car to get me back on the road to Colorado. Thank you !

Our family was vacationing in the area and our '97 Jeep had some troubles! We were very grateful for the repairs/replacements that were provided by Halvorsen's! They worked us in to their schedule and allowed us to continue our trip! Very impressed with their kindness and professionalism! Mike did a great job replacing brakes on all four wheels of my Jeep Liberty. They work great, were done quickly, and at a good price. Saved a lot of $$ versus other auto shops and the dealers price. Will definitely go back again for my other cars! Highly recommend!!

Traveling through the area on a Sunday and threw an alternator belt. This was the only mechanic to answer the phone and they got us in right away. We were back on the road within a short period of time and they saved us from having to spend the night and wait for everyone else to open on Monday morning. I cannot recommend Halverson s auto enough. I called to fix some spark plugs and get a new battery and he had me in within 24hours while all others were a week booked out. He worked on my car past closing time and never seemed inconvenienced by it. We will definitely be going back with any other issues that might arise over time! Was passing through on my way home and my brakes started making a horrible sound. Mike was able to diagnose and fix the problem honestly and at a significantly better price than I would ve gotten back home. It was done quick, efficiently, and with great communication.Thank you so much.

Was passing through and had a bad rear wheel bearing. Called Halvorsen's in the evening, and he met me at his shop first thing in the morning. Had me on the road again by 10:00 AM, right at 90 minutes total! He did a great job, and the cost was really fair. Wish he was the hometown mechanic where i live, would only take my cars to him then.

I m using my daughter in-laws account. My daughter took her car here. I live in another state. This man is so honest, skilled and knowledgeable. I m happy to know there is someone I can trust with my daughters car. When I m not there to make sure it s safe, and reliable for her!!!! A+++. Very honest and knowledgeable. Helps me every time I have a problem with my car. I've never been charged for diagnostics or just to have him check it out to clear a code. That goes a long way with me. I go to him every time or if I couldn't he's came to me. Do yourself and your car a favor take it to Mike he knows his stuff!!!

Mike has been working on all my vehicles for the last 15years work is always complete and throughly done in a timely manner only the work that needs to be done is, no sideways deals here just up front honesty and professionalism he replaced everything from ball joints to tirods headers wheel berrings heater motors . I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else, honest fair and timely that's what you can expect from Mike at Halvorsen's auto repair.

Mike is the best !!!!!! Best shop in town !!!!! Been doing business with him for years !!!! Great service and price!!! I am a mechanic but don't always have the time or every tool for the job, so I know great work when I see it.Again......no better shop in town for me!!!! thanks mike for everything!!!!
