Great room, facilities, restaurant, and location. I m so glad I chose this place for my Black Hills trip. 3 meals a day are available 50ft from my room. We had prime rib and crab cakes on the first night and both were perfect. Our waitress, Kenna was great. Our bartender was also great, but I don t remember her name unfortunately. We were helped by half a dozen others in the restaurant and check in desk and they were all very nice.

Review for restaurant only. We were hoping for an old school supper club experience and that is exactly what we got at the Powder House! Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful and professional service. My husband loved the Game Meat Sampler entree and I enjoyed the Buffalo Medallions. All of the meats were tender and well seasoned. They have a large menu and everything sounded so good it was hard to choose! Be sure to call ahead about an hour before you want to eat and get on their waiting list!

What a charming, delicious place! There aren't many highly rated eateries among the cluster that is close to the Mount Rushmore landmark, however this place is just a mile or two outside of that--totally worth it. Powder House (also their lodging) has been around for decades and the patio views are breathtaking. Our server was adorable, energetic and helpful (forgot her name, sorry!). I ordered the Queso burger, subbing a side salad (a little small perhaps) for fries, which was crisp and delicious with (I'm guessing) homemade ranch dressing. The burger's attention to detail included crispy crumbled bacon, crunchy dill pickles, Queso (could have used more imo), jalapenos, and the ever sublime toasted Brioche bun.In the dining room, you'll feel like you're at a cross between a retro ski lodge and vintage log cabin.

Had an amazing time staying here. The cabins are spaced out well and on the hillside and gives you a great sense of privacy from your neighbors. We stayed in the honeymoon cabin and being able to relax outside in a hot tub was a fantastic way to start and end the day. We ended up having dinner and breakfast down at their restaurant as well. The servers were friendly, fast and stayed on top of things and the food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely stay here again when I m in the area.

Had dinner at the Powder House restaurant on Saturday (9/16).The restaurant interior was extremely nice. Service was exceptional. We ordered and highly recommend the Wild Game Sampler (featuring Elk medallions, Bison short ribs and samples of house made Elk and Bison sausage). The meal was incredible to say the least. We topped dinner with a cherry - rhubarb crumble.Make Powder House your dinner destination when visitingKeystone (Mt Rushmore) SD.

Visiting from out of state and my whole family was impressed! Staff was extremely inviting and welcoming from the very beginning. Short wait time, our server was at our table almost immediately. Wide variety of meals for all ages, and absolutely delicious food; we had the bacon wrapped trout and tortellini with vodka sauce. All members of the staff seemed happy to work there and the environment was so calm and relaxing.Thank you for such a great experience Powder House Restaurant!Kierra & Sebastian

This review is for the restaurant only. It s in a beautiful cabin with large windows and an excellent view. It seems to be a favorite place for locals to dine. We arrived about 3:30 pm, hoping for a late lunch. We weren t aware that the restaurant closes at 3:00 and reopens for dinner at 4:00. The friendly and helpful staff let us wait inside because it was pouring rain. I ordered the bison meatloaf which was wrapped in bacon. It was served with a delicious sauce, but the mashed potatoes don t come with gravy. Our server explained at gravy isn t common in South Dakota. My husband ordered the chicken parmigiana. The spaghetti noodles were thicker than traditional spaghetti, but the sauce & chicken were generally good. We plan to return on our next trip and will make sure to arrive earlier so we can try their lunch offerings.

Great location out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Keystone, but just a couple minutes away. Property is beautiful and nestled in the woods. Cabins had all the basic amenities you would need. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. We traveled with a dog, and this was a great location to have a pet with you. Restaurant had good options and was tasty. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed and ate here for my birthday and it was delightful. The food in the restaurant was amazing, with excellent service. I had the vegetable wellington and I wish I lived closer so I could go more often. Our room was beautiful and updated and the bed was really comfortable. We will be back for sure and I've already told several friends about it.

We tried to get to the powder house restaurant five or six times during its season. It's one of the most amazing places to eat in the Black Hills. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is authentic mountain. We love it here!Food & drinks: Always great food!

I didn't stay at a room or anything. I ate the restaurant. I was told this place was awesome by someone from the helicopter inc. It was awesome however. There was no military discount. And they couldn't even work with me on getting just a buffalo burger. Like I didn't want anything else. And it was after I bought one. The burger was fire however. Also worth coming here but management seems terrible and the server was absolutely wonderful and she had a nice smile. Also you have to pay for water. Overated place. But good food

The property uses a well for water. Before we arrived, they ran out of water, and they hauled water and filled a cistern that obviously wasn't clean and full of silt. The water pumped to the cabin was brown and full of particulate matter. Not only could you not take a shower, you couldn't even wash your hands. This was not mentioned during check in, despite the staff knowing it.As soon as we get in the cabin, we discovered the brown water and called the front desk and they explained that the water is clean and potable and safe to use. Instead of being upfront with the situation, they went with "don't believe your lying eyes" and act like nothing is wrong approach and treated us like we were stupid. We had 2 days booked, but checked out after one night. When the lady at the front desk asked how was our stay, I said they should have told me about the dirty water, she rolled her eyes and said the water was potable and safe and talked to me like I was an idiot. I replied that I was sure the water was clean in the truck that hauled it to them, but when you dump clean water in a dirty cistern, it's no longer clean water. She said, "Well your reservation was non-cancelable."It's important to note, this place has a restaurant. How clean can they get the dishes? If the staff would have been upfront and acknowledged the situation, I would have given a positive rating. Things happen.

For their first time doing lunch they made amazing food and drinks. Our server Cliff was very friendly and was a great help. The burgers were amazing along with the deathly hollows butter beer. Plus the presentation of the food when it comes to the table was perfect. If you like a little spice I d recommend the holy terror burger. Also I d recommend the deathly hollows butter beer frozen cocktail if you are of drinking age.

Unfortunately I have to give this place an overall 3. I had booked it many months ago because I was so excited to stay here. Thought it looked beautiful online. The scenery is great, but we ended up with number 43, and it was much smaller than I understood (perhaps I missed something in the fine print). There was not enough space to really organize our stuff. the bathroom was microscopic. There was only one shelf in the bathroom and we were both afraid something might slip through (of course it was a bar-style shelf) into the toilet, thus it was useless for something like a cosmetic bag. I was constantly shuffling the toilet paper stand around the bathroom. There was a dark closet in the cabin and I kept imagining Crazy Ralph from Friday the 13th walking out from it. It was also odd to have the towels we needed for day 2 plus other sundries delivered via plastic bag. I don't recall ever needing to pull towels out of a trash bag for use. Perhaps that is how it is done commonly at cabin type inns. No heat so if you stay there pack warm clothes for just in case. two accessible outlets. might want to bring a side contraption. Food at the restaurant was good but good luck with getting anything vegan there.Nearby activities: The Rock Shed.Safety: this is either good or bad depending: so I locked myself out of the cabin and got a new key card by just saying I had locked myself out of the cabin. This was very convenient and I liked it at the time but would be also very convenient for a serial killer.

DINNER ONLY: Went here on a Wednesday night to try something new. We made a good decision to get here early as when we arrived about 6, more people started coming in and filling up there after. Our server was Matt and the fella was absolutely amazing. The drinks we had were great. I had a blue lemonde and she had the powder House peach which was incredibly creamy. The crab cakes for an appetizer was great. The 24oz Prime Rib (medium) was spectacular. I could've only had that and been satisfied. She had The Game Sampler with Quail and certainly opened her up to new taste. I would say if you're going there to eat a meal? Don't get the sampler. If you're going there to try new foods and you'll share and eat more later in the day? Get the sampler. The Sweet Potato Casserole was very good. Not too sweet and full of the natural sweet potato taste and flavor. Ended up having the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake to go as we still had a little bit of a drive back to rapid but did enjoy it at home later that day.I do want to point out another serve rby the name if Toby. We were sitting close to his section and had the pleasure watching him work with his customers and we were very happy with the service he and Matt provided.

Stayed two nights in a cabin. Close to the playground and pool. Location is great being out of town but close to everything. The lady that checked us in wasn't the clearest on details but we figured it out. The price was great for such a tourist area and enough space for five. My kids did say the pullout bed was very uncomfortable.Food was great at dinner, good options staff was nice. Breakfast was okay. Kind of pricey....and no breakfast that is just eggs, meat, potatoes, toast like every other place. So that made it more expensive as my kids added eggs to a meal or a meat. Also has the breakfast quesadilla which was good but no jalapenos as listed. I would personally go back for dinner but not breakfast.

Booked for one night, thinking we just needed a place to rest. What a gem! The room was cozy! We loved the towels and shower. Our room was right by the Highway and it was quiet. Historical place to add! Better than a hotel. Every single employee, from check-in, restaurant, to cleaning, was so absolutely welcoming!! Oh... and the food at the restaurant... was superb! Ate dinner there and went with the local recommendation for the tankana burger. Hit the spot for all of us! Breakfast was satisfying with a 10% discount. Did I mention gluten free options?! The gf bun on my burger was grilled to perfection!Rooms: Cozy, clean, awesome towels!

Not sure about the lodging because we did not spend the night here, so this post is for the restaurant.Passing through the town we decided to stop and eat here, based on good reviews actually! We are from south Louisiana & eating different foods are not that big of a deal, so I took a chance and ordered Buffalo. Omg! I ve never eaten a Buffalo before! It was so tender and delicious!Turns out they close during certain seasons and we happened to be there the second to last night before closing. I am so glad we were visiting at the right time

This simply is one of a kind and a Hills main stay! From the beautiful setting to the quaintness of the restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating! The food has always been outstanding and wait staff hospitable and engaging! Call ahead seating is a plus and if still a wait- simply grab a drink and enjoy the picturesque setting.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great location to take in all that the Black Hills have to offer, and peaceful surroundings.Room was quaint and cozy and comfy. Note: pay attention to what the amenities are in the room, they are precise. We hoped we could cook some in the room, don't plan on it, small microwave and fridge is all.The staff were accommodating. No grills or fires, but they will bring you a nice gas grill if you ask. Ice in the office.Pool was good, clean and cool.Restaurant is delicious with some unique items... Tatanka and wapiti, walleye and trout (only ate dinner there twice). Can be pricey, we spent $60 and $80 with tip and drink for 2.Definitely recommend.

Our family of 4 stayed 4 nights in the trailblazer cabin. The cabin was clean and spacious, loved the deck and fireplace. It has a well equipped kitchen. The pool was warm and clean (no bugs). We opt'd to make breakfast and pack lunches for each day but almost each night we at at the restaurant on site. We LOVED it. The food was great, hard to decide what to pick. The staff was friendly. The food was quick. Be sure to call ahead to get your name on the list as there is usually a wait. I would highly recommend staying here and eating here. I also really liked that before we arrived we got an email to help build our itinarary for the trip. I ended up finding a few more things to do and they ended up being our favorite activities on the trip.

One of my favorite lodging places in Keystone, SD when traveling on a budget. We stayed in the king bed studio cabin #26. Very small, simple, but a great value. Dog friendly. TV worked sometimes. The bed was comfortable. AC and heating is great. The small covered porch is so nice.WiFi and service was better in this cabin because we were so close to the restaurant. The front desk is in the restaurant. If this is your first trip I recommend staying here. Easy to get to. 25 mins from Rapid City, 10 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, and 35 mins from the Crazy Horse monument. The restaurant is delicious with so many great options, hopefully you get Emberly as your server because she knows the menu and was great. There is free parking and an outdoor pool during summer.

The restaurant is a must! The Buffalo prime Rib is beyond words. They also offer a variety of interesting game meats and more tame dishes like burgers and spaghetti. The service is amazing. The atmosphere is great for a casual meal or date night.Food & drinks: The restaurant is the best in the Black Hills!!
