I took a shot at these guys as I needed a new Transmission Multi-Function Switch for my 2000 VW Eurovan. I spoke to Tom on the phone and was very helpful so I decided to being my van in. He installed the part in less than an hour as he expected and charged me for their 1-hr labor (I provided the part myself). The code I was getting has been resolved and the van is running great again. I would definitely go back to Cottman Transmission if I have any future car repairs needed. Tom was honest, friendly and helpful.

This place is by far the best mechanic shop I have ever been to. Mike there is one heck of a nice guy. My wife and I had just purchased a car that broke down a week later and Mike was quick to help us. Our car was fixed asap and someone anonymous and generous stepped up and helped us with the bill!! These people here are very good folks and I recommend them to anyone.

Negative stars if possible. Brought my truck in for a transmission fluid leak. Was told I need a full overhaul for 4,000$ . Felt that was not right. Took it home and found the leak. It was literally a loose nut on my intercooler. 0$ to fix. Do not trust this place go somewhere else.

Recently I sent a young Lady with a transmission problem over to see Mike Morrison, the shop owner. I made the referral because after dealing with many local shops I was strongly concerned that other shops would see an easy target for expensive and unnecessary repairs. Mike took the time to scan her transmission and quickly made the needed repairs. Now, I am confident that this young Lady has found a car care facility that will treat her with respect and dignity.Service: Transmission

Needed a new starter 2 days before Christmas eve. Called so many places & was told that the turn around time would be 1-2 weeks, called Cottman & was able to get it done in less than 24 hours! The mechanic was super nice, knowledgeable, & the price was very affordable! So glad I found them, will definitely only use this place for any car repairs I may need in the future. Thanks so much for running an outstanding business!

They did quality work in a short amount of time for a reasonable price. I kind of feel they didn't just steal my money, which is a bit of a relief.EDIT: ...and then I sent my mother there to get brakes on her Mazda. They said they did a complete brake job, rotors and top quality ceramic pads for $700. Terrible brake dust buildup from cheap pads changed the look of the car. The brake pedal was spongy when she got it back, and the steering wheel shudders when applying the brakes. A full year and a half later, they sound like grinding metal, so I took it to Mazda. They told me it doesn't look like the rotors were changed in March 2022. No way.EDIT: ...Mazda wanted to charge $1200 for the job, so I got new rotors and pads and did it myself. From what I saw, the brake job was actually done by Cottman. The rotors were not terribly thin or groovy and the pads still had meat on them. I changed all four rotors and the front pads, then bled the system. Works fine now. From what I found, I believe that Cottman didn't break the pads in and that warped the front rotors, and they didn't bleed the system, leaving the pedal spongy, and they used the cheapest pads which put a lot of dust on the front wheels. - But they did change the parts they said they did.Service: Steering & suspension repair

Both mine and my sons transmissions went out in our trucks two weeks apart, cottmans was my first call. Micheal took care of both of them. Fixed right the first time, the services did not break the bank and the the turn around time was unbelievably quick. I would absolutely recommend cottmans to anyone needing work. You know have customers for lifeService: Transmission

Beloved old '81 Chevy truck's transmission went out while I was in Spartanburg, SC. Cottman was A-1 from the word go - over the phone and in person. Proficient, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable - how the heck they gathered all the necessary ancient parts for a complete rebuild within a week is beyond me, but Old Blue runs as smooth as butter. Thanks, Cottman guys - I literally remember you every time I turn the key. You're the greatest!Service: Transmission

I had the CVT replaced on my son's Nissan at Cottman and they were great. The total bill came to just under the estimate and they completed the repair much faster than I anticipated. They picked it up on Monday and it was ready Friday morning.

Michael and the entire crew at Cottman are extremely professional and were able to get our van back on the road in 3 days. They also beat the dealership price by over $1000. I am extremely happy with both my service and the price. If you need transmission work done I highly recommend this shop!

New to town and in a bind, Michael at Cottman Transmission helped us tremendously. He diagnosed what was wrong with our van and gave us options on how to move forward. His prices are exceedingly fair and he took the time to thoroughly explain what the issues were. Professional, courteous, and kind. Highly recommend!Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance, Transmission repairServices: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance, Transmission repair

I have had a lot of costly work done here lately. The prices are by far the best in town for transmissions. I have known Mike Morrison (manager) for many years and he has always been a super nice and honest guy. If I ever have a warranty repair, he always takes care of it with no questions ask and always has work done in a very timely manner.

*Great service and fair price - see the rest for details of my experience**I was considering buying my transmission from a wholesale distributor and having a mechanic who I know install it. Total cost was going to be around $2400, not bad for an 06 Acura TL. Then I decided to look up transmission shops to see what the cost would be when I found Cottman. I dealt with Mike who was very pleasant and seemed knowledgeable about transmissions as well as my specific vehicle. He gave me a price estimate over the phone and I was surprised to learn that his price would be about $200 more than my original plan and that I could purchase an extended warranty that would cover all of the parts as well as the labor (if anything goes wrong with the parts they will replace for FREE) for 3 years, 36,000 miles. So now I start thinking about the fact that I was going to have to pay around $4-500 labor to have it replaced, so if anything goes wrong there's another $4-500 out... Mike had a tow truck come pick the car up that same day (free of charge). There was some delay in the repair of my vehicle, but we were at the beach so it wasn't an issue. Mike even allowed me to have my windshield replaced while the vehicle was there (previous insurance claim, not Cottman's fault). Picked the car up when we got back from vacation and it runs great! Mike asked me to bring it back in a week so that they can verify that there are no leaks and that it is running well. All in all great experience from start to finish - would strongly recommend!

Highly recommend. Our family was stranded today on our way home from vacation and Michael picked us up since 4 of us couldn't fit in the tow truck. He found our issue immediately and got us on our way within 10 mins of arriving at his shop. He was very honest and reasonable.

Absolutely the BEST, without exception. When faced with a broken transmission on the Monday before Thanksgiving, I just knew that we would be down a vehicle for a couple of weeks. However, Michael and the staff at our local Cottman Transmission(Southport road in Spartanburg, SC) completely surprised us. The turnaround time was amazing, even with my added request of additional brake-work. There is no question as to who I recommend for total car care! Call them FIRST!Services: Transmission repair, Brakes

I would not recommend Cottmann on southport rd for the following reasons. I brought a truck with a bad transmission and I chose cottmann to put a remanufactured transmission. When they were done, they told me there was something wrong with the tires or something else because the truck was vibrating when they did a test drive. 2 days later I'm going under my truck to do the oil change and noticed one of the bolt on the trans support is not all the way in and stripped, also there is a transmission cooler on the truck and it didnt look like it was touched during the replacement of the transmission, when you replace a transmission you should absolutely drain and flush your transcooler to remove all the particles from the old transmission, I did it myself and I can confirm 100% it wasn't done. The vibration was coming from the u-joint on the driveshaft. You would think a transmission shop would know all of that but no, they will take shortcut if they can, lack of integrity overall.Services: Transmission repair, Air conditioning

Called around for pricing on car repair, the man I spoke to was rude and barely listening to what I was asking. He gave me an estimate that was higher than anywhere else including the dealership. My suggestion...go to MasterTech Auto they are honest, care, professional and have great pricing.

These guys were awesome! Best quote in town, no hidden fees and the best turn around time I found. Not only was I provided exceptional customer service, as they answered all my questions, they had my vehicle back to me two days prior then promised. I would not recommend anyone over Cottman in Spartanburg.

I am relatively new to Spartanburg and this is the first time I've visited Cottman's for vehicle service. Mike went above and beyond in terms of inspecting my truck, explaining the issue, and offering advice. He also helped solved a problem with my clutch that was separate from the main issue. Highly recommended!

I had a problem that sounded really bad, but turned out to be a simple fix. The Honda dealership said I needed to have a new transfer case installed. I took it to them and they said they would take a look at it. They fixed it.Instead of taking advantage of me and saying that it was a transfer case that needed to be replaced, they were honest and said that it was just a bracket that needed to be straightened. I wouldn t have known the difference as the noise disappeared. Instead of charging me $400, they were fair and charged me $45. That s good people right there.

I was referred to Cottman Transmission by a very satisfied customer in North Carolina. I contacted Cottman Transmission of Spartanburg and they fit me right in! My car had been sitting for roughly 2 or 3 years the first time I needed repairs. I was very satisfied with the Excellent service that they gave my 2001 Dodge Neon SE. Through the years their service never wavered; always professional and courteous! When it was time to give my old friend a rest; the staff gave me the bad news and suggested I find something else that was safer for my family. Recently I purchased a used car and it was evaluated and I was even told at how many miles I would need to bring back the vehicle for maintenance! Kudos to Cottman of Spartanburg for keeping my family safe on the roads of Spartanburg!
