I have been using Charleston Auto Repair for a while since living in Charleston. In the past 12 months I have had several things done to two of my vehicles to the tune of thousands of dollars. This review has to do with the repairs made to my pickup truck. I had brakes, rotars and tires (best they had) put on my truck. When I got home I decided to wash and detail my truck and I am glad I did. One of the tires had THREE of the five bolts so loose I could turn them by hand. I tightened them and checked the others but went back made sure they checked them and well.TODAY while traveling in NC I heard a knock in the front left of my truck along with a bump. As I drove it got worse. I located a tire dealer close by (thank you google) and when they got it on the lift called me back to see the problem. One of the 3/4 x 2 bolts holding the rotar plate had FALLEN OUT! And even worse the bolt on the other part of the bracket was so loose he could spin with his fingers. Then when he checked the others side of the truck THEY WERE LOOSE TOO!!!! This is insane!!! He said any longer and it would have been a BAD situation and I stopped a the right time. I spent four hours today waiting for them to locate a bolt that would work and when they put it in they had trouble because it had damaged the threads a bit. It s hard to believe that a business like this can allow very serious mistakes / workmanship on things that can be catastrophic. He explained that if you do not torque down on the bolts (in stead of just relying on an impact wrench) often times it doesn t secure them.I called the shop to inform the manager so that he could educate his mechanics and to inform him I would be writing this review. He apologized and said to send him the bill and he would see what he could do. I told him it was not necessary because I would just share my story instead. So, when it comes to tires and breaks DO NOT use Charleston Auto Repair on Hwy 61 in West Ashley.

Finally found my go-to auto shop! Brought my car in for routine brake repair and they had them replaced and ready for pick up just a couple hours later. So impressed with their speed and the price wasn t bad at all. Will definitely be coming back.

Can't say enough good things about Todd and Tonya! The service here is always quick and top notch. But it's the helpfulness of everyone on staff that makes them truly great.No one likes dealing with car issues, it just makes any other situation that much more difficult and stressful. The last two times I've used Charleston Auto Repair Todd and Tonya both went above and beyond anything I ever expected to help.I can't thank them enough, and I can't recommend Charleston Auto Repair enough.Services: Transmission, Engine repair

My friend Chris Davis has worked here forever. He has worked on my cars for years. He is also a good friend. I recently called him because my truck just died. Thank goodness Chris talked us through it and determined that it was just a bad battery connection. I am proud to say that Chris is now the owner at Charleston Auto Repair and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't take your auto to him for repair. They do great work in a timely manner and without breaking the bank. I know I will continue to take my truck to him for all my repairs and you should too.

I had a coolant leak on my car and this place was highly recommended and close to home so I thought I d give them a call. Tonya was very helpful and got me an appointment right away. Todd called me back the same day with a diagnosis of the problem and they had my part ordered and car fixed the next day. If you re looking for an honest mechanic that does great professional work in a timely manner. Look no further. I will be using them for all my future auto repairs. This company tried taking advantage of my 20 year old daughter. Upcharging her for diagnostic because she was a young girl. They should be ashamed. Don t use these people! Took her car to Torres auto repair instead and the whole job ended up costing her $31. Charleston Auto repair wanted $300 just to look at it while quoting my ex $120 diagnostic fee over the phone (a man). These people are a scam!! Lucky I had to give 1 star or they would have gotten 0!

I got my car towed there about a week ago and they told me it was going to be $300 for a diagnosis. My dad ended up calling because he said that was way too expensive and they quoted him $150 and then he told them I was his daughter. They shut up real quick. We ended up taking my car to Tores right down the road and they gave me a diagnosis for free and fixed the problem for $30, also very professional. This place is a scam. If you are a female, I don t recommend

I took my truck there to have a light fix and oil pan gasket replaced. I asked them to do a check to see if anything else was needed because my fuel economy dropped. I spoke to Todd on the phone and was given a list of sensors,brakes, ac charge and a slew of others. Totaled up to just over 5,000 but was told if I did it all it would be 3,700. I returned 3 times for check engine,abs, and traction control lights within two weeks. I was told they fixed the problem every time even though I repeatedly told them it wasn t right. Turns out my truck misfired and blew the motor. Also, they charged me $200 to recharge my ac even though I charged it three days prior and no leaks were present. DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR VEHICLE! My battery cables were able to be removed by lifting them up and when shown evidence Todd first said that it was a quick tightening. WATCH OUT! They completely lied to me saying that my entire exhaust system had to be replaced because everything was "broken, bent and rusted". The dealership had told me the exhaust manifold was the problem as did the next mechanic I took it to after Charleston Auto Repair. They said nothing was wrong with exhaust manifold. What was an 800$ job turned into them telling me it would cost 2,500$ to fix my car which would not have even corrected the issue. Todd is the guy behind the counter who knew exactly whatt he was doing in regards to deception and taking advantage. Thankfully I had a feeling he was lying through his teeth and double checked without them stealing over 2 grand from me. I promise you they are not an honest business. I don't know why they have any good reviews at all.

Excellent, quality, and top notch service. I thought our food truck may not come back to life after 5 so called, mechanics worked on the truck. Finally, I had the truck towed to Chris at Charleston Auto Repair and he assured me he would fix the truck. HE DID!!The Area 51 Foods food truck came back to life and Chris is the MAN for all of your auto repair needs even the most complex.

I went into tire choice on Sam Rittenberg today and spoke to the lady at the front desk she was immediately short and rude with me. I'm not sure of her name but the other woman there Taylor is awesome. So I asked the other lady if they would mount my new tires I just bought online and had delivered. She asked if the tires had stickers on them I replied with no brand new tires though. She rudely cut me off saying there not new tires with no sticker I can't mount them. I offered to sign a waiveroror something of the nature. She declined immediately. Felt like this was bad business and handled poorly. Staff training may be in order

I took my truck to Charleston Auto Repair after the big dealership misdiagnosed the problem and charged me a ridiculous ammount of money for minor non related item.The mechanic at Charleston auto repair drove the truck and in a few minutes knew exactly what was wrong. They replaced the Universal joint for me the same day. Very happy with this shop. Honest and quick with great follow up and customer service.

I took my truck in after it developed a horrible vibration. I did not have an appointment, but they were willing to fit me into their schedule. Within hours they had found the problem and guaranteed the completion of work that day or by early the next morning. The work was done on time, professionally and very reasonable priced. Charleston Auto Repair is the only place I will now take my 2014 Jeep Patriot. They recently helped me out when my air conditioner stopped working and a coworker recommended them. Not only did they fix it, they did not financially assault me like I have been by many car dealerships and auto repair shops in the tri-county area over the past 30 years that I have been a car owner. Todd and the Mechanics are honest and reliable and do great work. That is all I care about and I could not be more happy and would recommend them to anyone and everyone.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Dropped my HRV off to get the AC fixed and it was inspected before the estimated time, fixed before the estimated time, and cost less than the estimated price! Even got a little extra maintenance. Thank you so much!

Hands down the only place I will take my car! When we first moved to Charleston I tried a few other places, but I didn't really like the inconsistent service we received from them. A friend of ours recommend Charleston Auto Repair, and we have been taking our car here for close to 3 years. Recently, due to a busy schedule on my part and lack of preparation before a trip I took my car elsewhere again and it was a disaster- a piece was broken in my engine and I can safely say we will never compromise and go anywhere else while we live in Charleston! They take care of you and your car, and don't nickle and dime you-I highly recommend them!

The first time I visited, I had bent the rim of my tire on one of Charleston's infamous potholes. The owner asked me if I could wait for a day or two to get the rim fixed instead of charging me for a new one. He saved me a couple hundred dollars! The rim looks like new. These people are very good and very honest.

Cannot say enough good things about Chas Auto Repair. The office staff are always friendly and polite (they know their stuff, too). I've never had any issues with any service done, from new tires, oil changes or new hubs. I have taken several of my vehicles to Charleston Auto Repair and every time I have been very pleased with the service and price. They are quick to get you taken care of and very upfront with whats needed and what the cost will be. The staff has always been quick to respond to any questions and have made each experience as easy as possible.

I've been taking my F150 here for about 10 years. I've never questioned their honesty, the service is very good, and prices are reasonable. I'll be honest, I've shopped around and tries a few other mechanics based off of referrals, but at the end of the day I come back here when it's important and I need someone I trust.

Terrible awful people here. I had my daughter trying to learn to call the mechanic shop and do things for herself and they took complete advantage tried to charge her $350 for a bad battery terminal a 30 dollar fix at a shop down the road. No one should give them their business. Don t know how they sleep at night.

I posted this on Yelp and want to share on here as well to share my experience. I have a Volkswagen Passat and just moved to Charleston. I always look for an auto shop with good reviews from women and found this one. This time did not disappoint. The shop was extremely easy to make an appointment with, and they were very honest and upfront about the issue and how to fix it. Price was extremely reasonable and less than anticipated.They are on your side as a customer, and I would recommend them to anyone. My issue was related to a headlight issue after having it serviced at a Volkswagen dealership in another city.

I had my brakes and clutch replaced here in 2020. Since then I ve had a catastrophic break failure and my clutch was never bolted down tightly resulting in fluid leaks and almost lost the clutch! With all the great reviews I was very surprised. But I ll be sure to never use this shop again. Try Torres Auto they guarantee parts and labor!Services: Transmission, Auto brake replacement

My husband and I drove our Trailblazer from Pennsylvania to Charleston SC for vacation. We realized along the way that we had an issue with our power steering lines. We contacted Charleston Auto Repair and explained what happened. They got us right in and fixed the Trailblazer quickly! The staff was super friendly and helpful. They exceeded our expectations and saved our vacation! I can't thank them enough!
