I bought a classic, 30 year old van. I took it to AA for service. Dillon and his team are top notch! I m a female. Dillon would take the time to explain the issue to me, what he would do to repair it, and why! Even more shocking? The price!! He was very fair, reasonable and affordable!! I ve never met a more helpful, patient and personable mechanic in my life! He is the ONLY person I would trust my van to!! (I tried to push a tip on him, but he refused.)

I searched far and wide in the Charleston area for a long time for someone to do muffler work before I found myself in American Automotive. While other shops turned away the work, the owner at American Automotive was able to work me in the next business day and he took care of everything flawlessly. He made it a seamless transaction and I couldn t be happier with the work and outcome. I highly recommend this shop.Service: Exhaust

Fantastic experience! So happy. Key drop off option. Owner is a mechanic. This shop fixed my car, at a reasonable rate, quickly and explained what the problem was. Gave me advice going forward.I really appreciate this shop. Definitely trust them to work on my really old car. Thanks a lot.

Bottom line - most people suck but Dillon and his team are solid, honest people and that s why I ll never use another mechanic unless he sends me to a specialist. Took my truck to three Ford dealerships, including Palmetto, and one other mechanic. Estimates ranged from $2,400 to $5,000 to for totally different scopes of work to fix the same problem. I was told I needed to replace cam phasers, then told I needed a new catalytic converter, one guy replaced all my plugs/coil packs - but none of it made sense and the one repair I did didn t fix the issue. Dillon and his team did $175 worth of repairs and my truck runs like new again. Give them your business because they are honest, good people.

was quoted $300 just to fix the hangers on my car by somewhere else but american automotive did it for half of the price!! not only that but also did me a favor and fixed my flash shield. i dropped off my car after hours at night and they literally had my car ready an hour after they were open the next day!!! super speedy and very nice staff. 10/10 would recommend

One day my truck broke down as I was in the middle of my work day. Since I was stranded in West Ashley, I gave American Automotive a call. I described the problem to them, and they stayed on the phone with me to try and solve the problem. When the problem could not be solved over the phone, the Owner of the shop actually came out to me to solve the problem - and he did! He got my truck up and running in no time, and I was able to finish my work day. He truely saved the day. It's clear that the Owner and Employees at American Auto love cars and trucks, and I think that's why they are so good at what they do, and why they care about helping their customers. Whether I need major mechanical repair or just an oil change, I will be going to American Automotive, and I will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same. You guys are awesome. Thank you!

Dillon and American Automotive is a great place to take your car for very competitive prices on only the work that is needed which is a rare trait these days. I highly recommend using them (on days I don't need them)!!

These people are awesome go check them out and support the business took my 2009 marquis there 3x 1st3rd time didn't charge me anything I believe they do honest work and definitely recommend them to anyone... depending what kind of car issues your having I believe they go off the problem and go from there probably 1 one the best mechanic shops I've been to by far

Dillon and his team saved me a ton of money! Another shop gave me a repair quote of almost 3k and the fix ended up being a quick oil change to the right type for the warmer weather. I was told (by one of those corporate franchise stay in your car oil change places) that I needed a coolant flush, so when I came to get the flush was surprised when they told me I now had a coolant leak and they could not work on my car. I called Dillon who was kind and helpful and came highly recommended. Dillon was able work on my car the very next day, did pressure testing and figured out that there is NO leak. He called me back an hour after dropping it off to let me know they were done.Quick service.Friendly techs.Fair pricing.Very honest and never tried to sell me anything.These men are truly mechanics and not salesmen, which was much appreciated.I will definitely be getting my auto work done locally from now on and would recommend Dillon and his shop to anyone in the Charleston area.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

I have used American Automotive several times for repairs. We recently dropped the Mustang off for an AC issue. Dillon had it repaired in no time , but several weeks later it started blowing warm air. So , we took it back for the AC and an oil change. Dillon fixed an AC leak that he had missed on our first trip and changed the oil at no charge because we had to come back a second time. WHO does that ! I highly recommend American Automotive.

I'm from out of town visiting and my check engine light came on. O'Reilly recommended American Automotive. The staff at AA was great,they got me in the same day and after about 15 min I was told there was nothing wrong. He explained the last gas fill up at Circle K was garbage gas. He gave me an additive to add when I got down to a quarter tank. No charge for anything. I wish we had a place like this in Texas. Honest and friendly.

Helped out my 73 after I did some of my own shade tree mechanics involving a hack at my passenger side exhaust. Calhoun worked to outlet the exact image in our minds, did his own research on the original look and told me when he didn't want his name on my initial idea. I slept on it, dropped it off the next day and the service was marvelous; especially 'timely'. About this place is the price for an affordable expense you will get a THOROUGH realization of cal's true expertise.

I have gone to this shop atleast four times and was referred by my mom. Dillon, is the BEST!!!! There is nothing he can't do. He is very honest and the sweetest person i have ever dealt with at an auto shop. He has never done me wrong or added more problems to my car and if he sees another issue, he let's me know or he will just fix it at no cost for me. I took my 2006 Volvo in to Dillon, the new owner, about 6 months ago. I had a list of four or five items that the local Volvo dealer had told me needed to be done for safety and maintenance, totaling about $2,500. Dillon examined the car and told me that two of the items were perfectly fine, that one could be deferred, and that one definitely needed doing. Thanks to him I ended up spending about $500 instead of $2,500. That's honesty. More recently, I brought my 1990 Volvo in because the AC wasn't working well. I asked for a new refrigerant charge, hoping that was the problem, but knowing that it could in fact be the compressor. Dillon replenished the refrigerant but wouldn't take money when I went to pick up the car, insisting instead that I drive it around for a while to see if it was any better. It wasn't, which meant that I needed a new compressor. I decided to hold off on that expense, and went back over days later to pay for the refrigerant. Dillon told me to forget about it, that he'd see me again for something else soon. I'm sold. If you're looking for a mechanic shop that's honest and conscientious, American Automotive is it.

I m so glad I found this place! The owner is extremely fair, super nice and easy going. I had to take my car to three different places where work was done but done wrong, they had to fix! Have received quotes for way too much for other work, where he truly gave me a decent price. He is busy, but will text you if you need anything. Super helpful and honest! Will forever go to him with any and everyone of my vehicles!! Thanks for your continued help on my old but ticking cadillac!! American automotive took my car the same day I called. Had it diagnosed in hours and completely fixed the next day. It was the AC compressor and I literally just bought the car for $2000.00 and Haven't even paid the second months insurance yet. Come to find out the compressor was gonna run me right at $1000...I was so sad ..I told them I had $900 to my name and they accepted the payment but when I got there he only charged me $882 so that was nice of him.. Brian is very friendly and patient, straight forward.. when I got my car back the next day it was blowing hot air so Brian had me drop my car back off to him and within hours he diagnosed the problem again but this time it was an electrical issue. Something is causing my AC button to not click on. Too bad they don't deal with electrical stuff but Brian is supposed to refer me to someplace good. Thanks again American Automotive.

These guys are great! I was told by a nationwide automotive shop that it would be $1500 to fix my problem. When I took my vehicle to American Automotive they took their time physically looking at my vehicle and then showed me on the computer, what the plan was and that it would cost a little under $800. They were adamant that I not drive my vehicle because it was a fire hazard! The next morning they started working on my vehicle and when I got off at 3:00 it was ready for pick up. These guys saved me and kids from a dangerous situation and they saved my wallet from a world of hurt. I'm sold, I'm not going anywhere else! This is my go to shop.Service: Exhaust

We had the opportunity to meet a great guy that just happened to own an automotive repair shop. We had the opportunity to experience someone with a great work ethic. We finally, had the opportunity to experience great initial and follow up customer service when Customer's Preference, LLC needed to replace an engine in one of our cargo vans that only had 133,000 miles at the beginning of 2020. We were very apprehensive regarding replacing the motor. Everyone within the company had a negative motor/transmission replacement story. We were concerned about leaks, incompatibility, and active codes via dash lights after the replacement of the engine. Well, Dillion of American Automotive in West Ashley put all those concerns to rest. We were very pleased with Dillon's talent, professionalism, and his approach towards customer satisfaction. We entered into that transaction not sure if we found the right company. We can now say with all certainty; if you need a great mechanic shop, we got the guy for that. I found this place because of frustration and cheeseburgers! I had an appointment for brake repair services on my work truck at a nearby shop. The original place was overwhelmed by my issue and turned me away. I was hangry and stopped at Wendy's for a cheeseburger. While eating, I happened to see a beautiful classic car out back of the neighboring shop, American Automotive. This peaked my interest! I had my husband walk over with me to talk to them; after my cheeseburger. These guys know what they are doing! They love cars and trucks...it's a definitive passion and not just a job. I'm incredibly pleased with my experience and more so, ecstatic to have found a great repair shop for all my future repair needs!!!
