Clayton went above and beyond to fix my brakes. I called him in the morning, he took my Mercedes at noon and returned it to me the next day in immaculate condition. His rates were more than fair. I highly recommend!

Knowledgeable Mechanic - Fair Prices - No SurprisesClayton is the main mechanic there and is one of those rare honest mechanics you hear about but rarely meet. He lays out clear expectations and outlook for the job. Does not sugar-coat anything or mislead you into expensive unnecessary repairs (unlike some of the big chain shops). He is extremely knowledgable and seems to actually care about/stand behind his work.I had some tricky exhaust work done here recently on my 2000 Ford F150, my weekend work truck. It needed two new catalytic converters and 4 oxygen sensors installed. I brought this truck in with rusty/disintegrating nuts & seized-up bolts.He pulled this job off at literally 1/4 of the competitors quoted price and turn around time was also fast.When I went to pick up the truck he also pointed out some things he noticed that should be addressed but didn't push me whatsoever to get them done with him.If you are sick of being taken for a ride by greedy, opportunistic repair shops in the area, try Island Auto Repair for a refreshing change of pace.Service: Exhaust

Down and Dirty mechanic, but if you're looking for your go-to guy, Clayton is it.You'll have to peel away the mean/hard exterior, but he won't steer you wrong.He's a guy that enjoys working on vehicles and seeing his customers happy. He wants the repeat business that's achieve through quality work.His labor charges are fair. I think it was around $50-60/hour.He recommends high performance parts, but he encouraged me to find the parts online and come back when I had parts in hand to save me some money. And I did! Dang! I got a part that would have cost $400 from the manufacturer for half the price on eBay.

On our first day of vacation the vehicle had a spark plug and coil burn up. Looking for a mechanic in that area I took notice of this place and its rating. I called but didn t leave a message. Clayton called back as soon as he could to find out about the call he missed. Who does that? Someone who cares about his business. The next morning he had us fixed and ready to go without a long wait. Big thanks to Clayton.

Island Auto Repair is an old-school, do-right-by-the-customer kind of business. I recently moved to the Newport area, and my 5.0 Mustang was driving me crazy. I'd had it to two different shops in MD who were more than happy to charge me $800- $1400 to "fix it", and neither of them came through. I took the car to Island, it was diagnosed, repaired and given back to me in less than 3 hours, and the price for the services was so reasonable I could hardly beleive it. If you need good mechanical work done for a great price, do not hesitate to go see Clayton at Island. He is a true stand-up guy!!!!

This guy is a true mechanic. Helped me out of a serious jam. I own a Cab Company and had a taxi go down in Tiverton. He came in late in the day on a Saturday and had my vehicle diagnosed within TWENTY minutes( engine blown cyl 5 45psi cyl 6 0psi) You can barely find a mechanic that can look at your car within 20 min.( on a Saturday!!!) He helped me come up with a plan, gave me a flat rate ( which he stuck to at the end, save for$100 for extras) and let me supply my own parts!!! No BS! The way it should be! Thanks Clay! Honest and fast service. I went here after getting an estimate from Midas for nearly $1000 dollars to replace the exhaust and muffler on my 1996 Rav 4. Refusing to pay such a ridiculous price, I went to Island Auto Repair for a second opinion, and I'm beyond happy that I did so. He determined that it was only the muffler that needed to be replaced. His knowledge of mechanics and auto repair were quite clear as he showed me how he could tell the exhaust didn't need to be replaced. The estimate at Island ended up being just under $400, so I ended up saving $600 by going here. He luckily had the parts and was able to repair the car within 24 hours of dropping it off at the garage. The price at the end was only slightly higher than the original estimate for a few additional minor parts. I would highly recommend Island Auto Repair to anyone on Aquidneck island, because the service was reliable, knowledgable, quick and honest. Trust the numerous reviews, this place is great.

What should ve taken 10-15 minutes took over an hour. He had to order regular oil. Took forever. Then talked with his buddy once the oil arrived. $40 oil change. Never go here unless you want to waste your time. Takes cash only. Didn t tell me until last minute.Service: Oil changeService: Oil change

Long story short, take the Harley out for a beautiful September ride. Make it 100 miles to Newport only to break down!! They should call it Island Auto and Bikes! The owner (embarrassed I think his name is Clayton) took care of me without a blink. Diagnosed the problem, made the repairs, and I was on my way in an hour! Got me out of a big jam! Thanks again.
