Backyard mechanic Dad here. My daughter is 4 hours away at college. I work on her car when she is home, but it's tough when something comes up when she is away at school. Did some research and found this shop. They are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and understand putting a car on the lift is not an opportunity for an upsell. They fixed what what was needed, recommended others repairs visible while on the lift, and had my daughter's car fixed in a reasonable time. This IS your local repair shop. No wonder they have been in business for so long.

Reliable, knowledgeable folks! Good service. They don't try to sell you stuff you don't need. I have been going there for years. Two brothers have been running the place all the time I can recall. No, maybe their dad was running it when I first went there in 1989!

I took my car to Bastone to get some suspension noise addressed. They didn't have appointments available when I first called, but were willing to fit me in for a test drive with a mechanic on the same day that I called. When their first repairs didn't fix the noise, they saw the car again the next day and made another repair free of charge. Bob Bastone is friendly, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable, and I certainly recommend the shop.Services: Steering & suspension repair, Oil change

I'm new to Pittsburgh & dreaded finding a new mechanic as I have a 21 year old vehicle. But, after reading other reviews I gave Bastone a try. Very happy, great service, good communication, reasonable and honest.Thank you.

I have gotten my inspection here the last two years. It s a quick turnaround and they have never told me I needed anything fixed. They are honest and efficient, highly recommend. I would not recommend Bastine auto. they did patch work and charged repair price when I set expectations prior to repairs! Have to call police to file complaint!There are two issues to look into regarding this repair costs that you are currently requiring $300, before I able to obtain my vehicle from your shop.Prior to any repairs, you with me present spoke about the horn malfunction issue, and found it to be two connectors that needed to be replaced. You stated that it would be no cost, as the repair would take less than 10 minutes to complete. This "no cost" was not adhered to as the final invoice showed charge of $199.99 to repair the connectors (clamps) (sufficient ground to steering column). If you were going to charge for this service, you did not specify, nor did you provide a cost before you completing the work.The cost of the fuel line you quoted me at $$$ was to repair the fuel lines, not to bend and patch. I spoke with an employee from your shop on last Friday and discussed a fuel repair kit that would be utilized for repairs to the fuel. When I came back and asked again about the repair kit for the fuel line, I was told that the fuel lines were going to bent and repaired at your shop. I viewed the final repair only be dismayed by the patchwork repair for what I am being charged.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I had the BEST experience today at Bastone- went in because I had a nail in my tire! They took my car as soon as I called I was able to drop it off about 30 minutes after I called! The two men there were so nice, helpful and said they would call when they had more information. They called quickly after! I will be referring people I know to come here and will be coming here in the future for any of my car needs!Service: Tires

I've been going to Bastone for a few years. It's always hard to find a auto-repair shop that you can trust, and the workers over at Bastone are great at assessing what your vehicle needs to run correctly. I trust them with their analysis, which is honestly the most important thing when it comes to car repair.As a smaller shop they might need to schedule a week or so in advance for smaller things like oil changes, but if you're in the Shadyside area I would absolutely recommend Bastone.

These guys are awesome. Brought my car in because the wheel was making a weird sound, and it was fixed very quickly for a reasonable price.They are extremely communicative and honest (called me to suggest that I replace 3 of my tires that I was aware were getting old, and charged me a very reasonable price for those).Just a pleasure to do business with, I'm glad to have found an awesome local mechanic so I don't have to drive halfway to WV to get ripped off by Nissan!

Whenever something goes wrong with my vehicle, Bastone has me covered. Quick and friendly service with excellent communication, and they provide the state-required yearly inspections as well. If you're in Shadyside and don't know who to call, no need to look further!

2021 update: Final update since I'm moving out of Pittsburgh. I've been taking my car to these guys for 5 years now (less so during the pandemic). They helped me out with an annoying tire leak / TPMS sensor issue, and kept letting me bring my car in until they figured it out. I appreciate their efforts and stand by my earlier review. Highly recommended auto shop.---I have been taking my car ('07 Hyundai Sonata) to Bastone Auto since 2016. Whether the job has been routine maintenance or specific electronic/mechanical issues, they've exceeded my expectations with the work each time! What's really great is the personal attention they provide each customer: they'd give me a confirmatory call when they discover needed repairs that are particularly expensive, and clearly explain to me which repairs are essential and which are "nice-to-have", building a lot of trust along the way. I don't write many reviews but Pittsburgh is better off knowing these guys are exceptional, highly recommended and worth driving some distance to to get good work and kind service.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, General repairs & maintenance, Brakes, Oil change

Simply one of the best auto repair shops in the area. I do heavy driving from NY to Pittsburgh about twice a month and if there is anything that I need for any vehicle, I call Bastone, sometimes just for their second opinion which is always worthwhile. They can always find time to get the job done before your deadline despite having a full garage at times. At this point, I have brought every vehicle in my driveway to these guys and have never had anything but an extremely positive experience.

Emailed Monday, they responded very quickly and set up an appointment for Friday. Got an oil change and an inspection, very reasonably priced, work was done well before the estimated time. To be honest I'm terrified of mechanics, but everyone was nice and there was a cute dog chilling out behind the counter. Totally recommend.

Bastone's has been the auto service of choice for my family for two generations and I recommend them highly. I own a Saab and Bob Bastone is so knowledgeable about the brand, I would never have it serviced anywhere else. Small and family-owned, everyone is so friendly and I have complete trust in the value of the work they do.

Bastone took good care of me and was flexible working around my college schedule. Really friendly workers, great communication, patient, and helpful. They repaired my shredded brakeline and front motor mount in under two days! Thank you Bastone.

My car broke down on Thursday night. With no available appointments until Monday, I was told that I could go ahead and have my car brought in on Friday morning and they would look at it if they had any time. My car was finished within a few hours and I am so very grateful! They did not try to sell me anything extra on top of what I knew was broken. Will definitely come here for any car troubles for my remaining time in Pittsburgh.

I had my inspection here at Bastone and it was a great experience. The friendliness and efficiency of the staff truly stand out. A special recognition to Carl, who patiently explained everything and was very accommodating with my schedule. I highly recommend this shop.

Girlfriend's car had a flashing check engine light and engine was misfiring while in gear. Was referred to Bastone's by Walter's over on Baum since they were booked solid. Bastone's was very accommodating in getting my gf's '99 Lexus ES 300 in. I dropped it off after hours, and they had the diagnosis by roughly 9:30 am the next morning. Told me it was a bad ignition coil, and it'd be $290 to fix (this included a $50 AAA discount). I initially had expected much worse, and so approved them to continue work.After some research, I realized this was over almost double what other shops in the area were quoting for a similar repair. When I called Bastone's to ask why they were charging so much, they essentially said the coil was OEM, and using cheaper parts will just have the problem happen again. The coil was about $150 (before discount) and another $150 or so for labor. The labor seemed high based on descriptions of the work required I read, but hey, I'm not a mechanic. By this point, they had already completed the work, and the effort of towing it elsewhere to have someone else do it plus the diagnostic cost I'm sure Bastone would charge wouldn't be worth it.Long story short: Bastone's was very accommodating, they got the work done very quickly, but were pretty expensive compared to other shops in the area. If I'm in a pinch I'd use them.

Took my car in for the first time to diagnose a rattling noise. I normally work on my own car but I was busy that week and the noise was annoying me. It was towards the end of the day when they came back with a response and were still unsure of what the exact problem was, but said they'll replace a part with no guarantee just to see if that'll solve the issue which would cost over a thousand dollars to replace an axle that's only eighty dollars. I was so sure at that point that I would end up spending more on this fix than I paid for the car itself. Wayyy overpriced, and not very thorough. Oh and $160 for a diagnostic that they weren't even sure about?! That's insane. Never felt so cheated. This place will rip you off. Never going back here again.UPDATE: I replaced the axle myself in under an hour. According to their outrageously high price quote, this was going to take them an eternity! But turns out it was actually the input shaft bearing which I was able to correctly diagnose myself. Again, these guys are not thorough. As for the A/C issue, I already knew the compressor was bad because it's quite obvious when you look under the hood and it's not engaging. I asked to simply quote me on the fix without all the unnecessary charges. Also, does not take 3 hours to hold up a microphone to where the noise is coming from or realize the A/C compressor is not spinning.

I was visiting Pittsburgh from out of town when the TPMS light came on in my car. I was worried I ran over a nail, and wanted it checked before driving home. Carl fit me in to an already busy schedule to take care of what turned out to be a bad valve. Totally awesome. Way friendly.

Have been going there since 1997. Honest shop, doesn't try to sell you something that you don't need. Repairs are done right, no corners cut. If you need a gasket they will order it, not use Form a Gasket (or whatever it's called now). They take imports, but BMW can stall on parts in my experience (not the garage's fault).

I have taken my cars to Bastone's for years, as have nearly all of my neighbors, and have always received excellent, friendly, fast service. I give Bastone's all the credit for helping me keep my 12 year old WV running and on the road!
