This is my second time bringing my Jeep Wrangler to the fine folks at 1939. They originally diagnosed and repaired my EGR wiring loom, that was exposed, that another shop missed, and replaced an egr valve that was dead out of the box.1939 replaced the EGR valve, repaired the frayed loom, causing a short. I also asked them last minute (when they called to tell me it was fixed) to change my ABS sensors and they got that done as well, same day They did what was asked without any padded extras and they saved me hundreds compared to other shop quotes. They were transparent thru the whole process, about costs, labor time, and they updated me before doing any additional work. In short they did everything I could of asked of them. I felt so great about my previous visit and the tons of money saved That when an Audio installer rerouted power to my Apple Car Play, and cut my 12v (always on) power outlet to do it, and unplugged my 12v (key on) outlet connector during the install.So I had both my 12v outlet out of commission and no way to charge phone or power any accessories.1939 diagnosed the problem in double quick time, as a result of the Audio Installer They found the unplugged connector as well. They called me within 2 hours and explained what had happened, and how they fixed it. This shop doesn t embellish,poster, or try to find ways to charge you extra. They tell you what you need to know and thats refreshing. I m from Iowa and finding an honest mechanic in Philly is hard.Been here since 2016 and this is the first shop that I ve trusted enough that I came back So that says it all, I plan to have all my vehicles repairs or maintenance done by 1939 from now on I appreciate the quality of work and the money they ve saved me

screwed us for money, car was not starting so we were referred to this place. everything was good until a month later the car was not starting again, stated he put a new starter in and less than 24 hours car did not start again.he diagnosed the car wrong and now we must put out for another starter and the electrical wire that was not caught by machinic.our dealership stated they don't know how 1939 AUTO did not catch this problem, even if they could not do the job we should of be notified but instead they replaced the wrong thing and making us put more money out.DONT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE THEY ARE MONEY SCAMMERS, WAY BETTER MACHINICS OUT THERE IN THE SP AREA.

After a traumatizing (not really traumatizing, but very annoying) experience at Pep Boys (see my review and STAY AWAY), I frantically called around, conducted price checks, and ended up at 1939.I came in last minute (no appointment) and on a time crunch (my car gets me to work, gets my kid around town, etc.)Kevin and the team were so awesome, so helpful, perfectly communicative, and trustworthy.I've taken my car here several times since my first visit, and they'll continue to be my go to for anything car related.I'd recommend 1939 to anyone who'll listen.

These guys are great. Were able to fix a problem with my power steering that nobody was able to fix. According to them the problem was an "obscure knowledge" in the industry. Had my power steering pump replaced twice, tubes replaced, had the fluid drained several times, no fix. These guys fixed it to a point where it's no longer an issue. Thanks, guys.

I dropped off my vehicle for a state inspection in February 2024. The folks I encountered were professional and friendly. I'd definitely consider this location for any future needs.

Really professional and helpful! I would recommend.The first mechanic I took my car to messed up the whole braking system. The next mechanic suggested changing a bunch of parts and that didn't fix the issue either.I then took my car to 1939 Auto and they were able to diagnose and fix the issue in a matter of a few hours. They didn't hesitate to look into my problem although I'd taken it to two mechanics earlier.If I could make one change, it would be to extend pick up hours. 4 PM might be difficult for people who travel to work.

1939 Auto was undoubtly my best ever car experience! I am the type of person who ALWAYS goes to the dealership for my maintenance and services. It takes a lot for me to feel comfortable going to an independent shop because I often feel like I'll be treated like I don't know what's going on as a young female. It was such a breath of fresh air trying out 1939 Auto and being treated SO WELL!!! I went for a simple inspection but had a shotty battery and was going to fail inspection. They gave me a new battery and didn't charge for the inspection! I got a chance to drive the car around and redo my inspection and pass with ease! They treated me so well, were incredibly nice, understanding, friendly, and overall just great guys to give your business too. Especially Kevin, he was so sweet, he knew me by name! Dom was a fixture in the neighborhood for a generation and he left us in good hands. I've been taking my car to the new owners for a while and they have been friendly, polite, straightforward, efficient, and honest. They even held on to my replaced ignition coils to show me where they were failing and why they had to be replaced. Good people that have my business.

I have taken my car for Service to Dom s auto repair for at least three decades. I have always had good service, fair prices, and I ve always trusted the mechanics working on my car. Dom has retired, but he has passed it on to a gentleman by the name of Mike who worked with him for several years. I ve taken my car to him for inspection on two different occasions, and I ve had a light checked to see if it was telling me the truth about my coolant being low. I was given an honest answer, and I was very satisfied with the two inspections. I will continue to take my car there for any service it requires.

Got my front control arms and bushings replaced here about 6 months ago and was told my tires didn't need to be realigned, despite other mechanics suggesting they did. Was told the other places were trying to rip me off. My front tires have worn down an incredible amount since then and need to be replaced, despite being only 2 years old with 20k miles on them they need to be replaced, while the rear tires are still solid. Don't recommend this place unfortunately, and will be telling my family/friends to stay away. It's too bad as I live quite close by and they seemed nice.

Mike has been the absolute best to work with regarding my car! He has been honest with what work needs to be done, his prices are very fair, and he keeps an eye on what work will need to be done in the future. Mike has also been awesome at communicating and has been very accommodating regarding car pick up/drop off. I would highly recommend sending your vehicle to Mike anytime you need to have it looked at!!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

As a woman I do a lot of my repairs myself which I learned in the Navy but the car was smoking on the bottom and tI could not get to it and I wasn't sure what it was so a friend recommended then to me. They repaired and replace the valve cover gasket which was leaking. So happy with service and the mechanic are very knowledgeable and awesome...Just found my new guys to go too..highly recommendedService: General repairs & maintenance

They got me in quickly, took care of my car honestly, quickly, and with great communication. After I left I heard a noise and they even had me come right back and helped me find it was coming from a part that is under warranty at another shop, which they let me know rather than fixing it themselves. Will definitely be back.

I stopped into Dom s auto shop needing a flapping noise my car was making checked out. Dom and his staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they were able to diagnose and fix my problem within 15 minutes. I felt so cared for and respected in their shop. Dom s has been my go-to mechanic since moving to the city after a friend recommended him. He and his team have always provided stellar service, kept it real with me about what is/isn t necessary (with that classic south philly gruffness), and teach me a little bit more about my car every time I go. His prices are beyond reasonable, and he only works with materials he trusts so I know the parts I m getting will last. The more times I take my car to him, the more convinced I am I ll never take my car to another mechanic in the city. If I could give him more than 5 stars I would!

Best of Philly in my opinion. I'm blessed to live right up the street from Dom's shop and he's always there for me when I need help. Quick, honest, trustworthy, and a really great guy who genuinely cares about his customers and the neighborhood. I've stopped in a few times for tire issues and he's helped me out every time. While you're waiting for your car, he offers great conversation about damn near anything and even explains exactly what the guys in the back are doing. Love this guy; truly a stand-up character and I'm glad to be his neighbor.

The very best. It is a paradox that I look forward to bringing my car in so I can see Dom! If there's one person you have to trust in this life it's your mechanic, and I trust him completely. He's always taken great care of me and he cares about his customers. Nothing to prove--hes been at this since before I was born.

I have been going to this place for almost 5 years, when it was Dom's and then then it transitioned into 1939. As a female, this is the first place that I don't feel uncomfortable or that I'm financially being taken advantage of due to my lack of knowledge about cars. Everyone is always super professional, friendly and knowledgeable. A few years ago my air-conditioning was broken and seemed like an impossible job to have it fixed after taking it to several other mechanics in the area without a diagnosis of what the issue was and just being told that I was going to spend $2k+ to fix it. The mechanics at 1939 took their time and helped me fix the problem, and kept the cost low for me. Shout-out to Kevin for being awesome at his job and working with me while I had my my AC fixed in the hottest part of the summer. I am pretty sure he lost sleep trying to figure out what was wrong! You can see that these people know what they are doing and that they are passionate about it too! As long as I live in Philadelphia, these guys will be my mechanic!

I needed to get safety and emissions inspections done fairly quickly and being new to the area I decided to give Dom a try since he's right up the street from me. He was able to get me in the very next morning after I called, and the whole process was quick and easy! He's a straight shooter and I believe he really cares about his customers; I felt appreciated after I left his shop. Dom will definitely be my go to mechanic in the future.

Said they did the water pump and they supposedly needed to do the timing chain which doesn't need done when you do the water pump on this vehicle so there was a lie. They knew I lived an hour and a half away so they hit me good. My vehicles head gasket blew 2 weeks later and boom no more vehicle. Take the big repairs to the professionals and go to these guys for a tire change.Services: Auto water leak repair, Engine repair

Mike was very accommodating and was able to get my car in to repair a hole in my tire. He also took care of my oil change. During this time, he realized that my door was not aligned properly from a previous auto body repair and he fixed it for me. For as long as I live in Philadelphia (and honestly maybe even after) I will take my car to Dom's Auto Repair. I've been a customer at Dom's for a few years now. I've had my brakes done there, every inspection, I've gotten mirrors and tires replaced - you name it. Dom and his team have been nothing short of pleasant and professional every time. And his prices are extremely reasonable! I can't recommend him enough. If you live in the area, give Dom a call, you won't regret it!

I moved to Philly from out of state and was recommended to go to Dom's by a few Philly natives! He will shoot you straight and is a hard, honest worker. I've tried dealerships and other mechanics, but Dom is the guy to see. He will talk you through everything you need, but give you honest options on what's necessary and cost effective.

Dom is a prickly guy lol. I made an appointment (you have to make an appointment). I got there real early and no street parking I was first so I figured I'll pull into his driveway that leads to garage. I went like 2 miles an hour because it's a tight fit. He glared at me and said, "Don't ever pull into my shop like that again!". I was stunned. It took all I had not to leave. A good friend recomended him to me. Anyway I went a few times and he did good work. Until he put a left side ball joint on the right side lmao. Funny noise. Also Dom sells tires and he refuses to repair a tire because he wants you to buy a new tire from him. That's not nice.
