I used to take my car to my dealership for state inspection. But last year decided to go to Pep Boys as they are much closer.POSITIVE: At Pep Boys, I always get an appointment when I need it. At the dealership I have to wait almost 3 weeks. For only a state inspection the dealership always discovers something wrong. I never get out of the dealership for less than $300.Pep Boys, $53.59 Registration desk is always helpful, polite and cheerful. While my car is being worked on there is communication via text and texted photos of progress. One time they even found a tiny dangerous bulge in a tire.NEGATIVE: The waiting area is not the greatest. 4 chairs; magazine table; counter with Keurig Coffee Maker and supplies; receptacles for laptop and other; plus some high cafe tables.But it's right next to the door and in a tire storage area. The magazine table was a total pig sty so I straightened it out while I was waiting. If they had given me a micro fiber cloth, some all purpose Windex and a vacuum cleaner I would have done more, it's that bad. This is the only item preventing me from giving 5 stars.Otherwise I'll be back.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this Pep Boys. After taking my car in for an inspection in 2023 and having the shocks replaced, they insisted I needed a four-wheel alignment. I agreed and paid for the service. However, a year later, my tires began wearing unevenly, so I took my car to another shop for an alignment. The other shop informed me they couldn't perform an alignment because the camber bolt was welded on!This means Pep Boys lied about performing the alignment and took my money without informing me about the welded bolt. They either didn't actually perform the service or failed to mention a major issue that prevented it. Either way, this is unacceptable. I do not trust Pep Boys and will not be returning. Their lack of transparency and poor customer service has lost them a customer for good.

Great experience at Pep Boys. I brought my SUV in to swap in winter tires. I was able to book my appointment for the next afternoon. I waited in the spartan customer waiting area, and the work was completed in about an hour despite one technician being out sick that day. The technician updated me on the status of my tires and things to watch out for. Though they closed the auto parts part of the business, and the waiting are is kinda rough, the work performed has always been outstanding.

Total rip off! I hesitated to take my car here, however due to this being an emergency and my mechanic was not able to get me in as soon as I would like. I took it Pep Boys because they had availability. I figured replacing spark plugs couldn't be too hard, however I didn't have the appropriate tools, so I took it to professionals who do this for a living and would have the right tools to do the job. Due to it being a foreign car I explicitly let them know, if they had any trouble to STOP the work immediately, and I will wait for my reliable mechanic to complete it. (Quote for $265 for 4 spark plug replacement). Few hours later, I get a call saying the coil pack broke and this was my fault (because I attempted to take out the 1st coil, but never damaged it) and cost of now replacing all plugs and coils were going to be $1200.00+. I told them I was not going to pay this. After heated discussion with the manager, he reduced the price to coil replacement. After taking it home and looking at the coils, they replaced the coil that I NEVER touched (2nd coil). Clearly, they are the ones who ripped the coil and were blaming it on me and trying to make me pay for their damage. Lesson learned, NEVER AGAIN WILL TAKE MY HERE! Hope to save some of you, your hard-earned money and take to someone who is honest!

Nail in tire Tuesday and Pepboys place my spare on car; had to be at work soon. I left tire w/rim for repair/ replacement, so it would be ready when I came back on Wednesday morning. When i got in, there wasn't a work order, and the rim was just lying in the back. Once they realized the error, they quickly fixed the issue and I was on my way. They were very polite, the store is just tires and repairs.

Something tells me these guys are fishy. Hear me out. I had an appointment for 8am Saturday as I needed to bring my car back to this same pep boys, bc they did not solve the problem I was having the first time I went.I was the first to get there and gave them my keys around 7:50 Am. I then waited for my car. They called me around 12 and said that there is $3000 worth of work to be done. I said please just do what is necessary for the car to be safe and nothing more. They then say my underbody and wheel needs necessary work and they have to order a part for it. I got underbody work there a year ago and they said they need to fix it again.Originally they said that the warranty is inactive when I called and asked them if my warranty for the underbody from a year ago was still active and they said no its not. After demanding them to check it again, they said it is active and I can use it to get some of the work redone.Near closing time, they call me again and say hey our system is old and it recommended the wrong part to us, when we tried the part, it didnt fit and now we have to hold the car until tomorrow. Right before I left on Saturday, I had a phone call and during it I overheard and watched cody fox the manager call someone else and tell them they ordered the wrong part because of the system and now they have to hold her car for 2 days. The same story that he told me for why he has to hold my car until the next day. Word for word.I dont trust these guys. That coincidence is too shady. It seems like these guys will do and say whatever it takes to get a better payment, even if its unethical/dishonest. Also Sunday afternoon, Cody Fox ripped a vape in my face several times when helping me with the transaction.

Do not go to these people! They charged me $500 for a valve cover gasket in order to pass inspection and they said I had an exhaust leak (there was no leak according to another qualified mechanic that did pass my car). They tried to charge me another $500 for "OEM horns" because they were "the only ones that will work with your car" (they aren't). I took the car from them before they could charge me for anything else and I discovered my horn was simply unplugged.These people will 100% tell you that you have thousands of dollars in repairs when there is no issue at all.

After replacing all 4 new tires form Pep boys in McDade Boulevard i had a balance issue the car shakes very bad, i went back to Mcdade branch to tell them about my problem i never except the response and the way they treated me and they kept saying nothing wrong with the car and that was your choice to pick those tires also they told me my car never made for speeding after told them it's shaking above 60Mph , then my friend suggested to go to west Chester branch, i met with the manager and the technician i explained my problem with them then i noticed from the way they're talking about that they have a-lot of knowledge and experience, they took it to the back fix the problem within like 45 minutes give me the keys back.Now i am driving the car and it feels like a brand new car ( balancing wise )I left very satisfied and happy, i do recommend this specific branch over any other Pep Boys location!

The workers were nice, but I was charged an absurd amount of money for a simple oil change. Without informing or explaining to me, they did the most expensive and involved options to bump up my bill like a fancy filter and other things. Just wanted the oil changed and I somehow spent $200. I also felt scammed, being a young lady who knows nothing about cars, because the workers magically found a lot of problems with the car, but how do I know this is true? They wanted to replace all my lights and the entire break system.

Scheduled 2 appointments with this place and the first time they called me an hour and a half before and said 5:30 was too late for an oil change. I decided to make another appointment with them at 4:00 (an earlier time) and when I showed up they told me they can t do it again. Both men were on their phone at the desk and didn t seem to care that this was the second time they canceled on me. I ll definitely never be coming back here for a simple oil change.

This place is hit or miss depending on who you are dealing with. My last experience there really will keep me away from here. Purchased tires and just needed an installation. They said no problem. The next day, I called and asked how everything went and they said the tires were too small and were pretty slow and rude about it. Ride to other customers too. Anyhow, went to another tire place and got the tires installed for less money and less attitude.

I brought my vehicle here in the past when Cody was the store manager,and he was a please to deal with and always made sure everything was done properly..well fast forward to now and they have a new guy named Joe,who Is probably one of the most clueless people I have every spoken to..he has absolutely zero customer service skill,he doesn t know what is going on with vehicles in his shop,I would call for an update and was told each time that they are taking things apart and putting them back together he gets extremely defensive when you question him because I assume no one ever called him out on his lies,I was in store and he decide to raise his voice at me like a child until I put him in his place in the store and over the phone..I have absolutely zero interest in bringing any of my vehicles back here while this man is employed..is pepboys had a half of a brain they would reinstate Cody as the manager and get rid of the idiot they have behind the counter now..and just so you are all aware check the prices on part they order parts at auto zone and then charge you 200% mark up he tried to charge me almost $200 for a $47 gasket set and I laughed and refused to pay that mark up..most other pepboys will take customer supplied parts,like this one did in the past when Cody the manager who knew how to run a store was in charge but this new clown wants to stop that and make you pay 200 percent mark up s on parts from auto zone..I expect to hear back from a person so I can fully explain what is going on..do yourself a favor and do not go here..go to a mom and pop shop and support small business and get treated right..Joe you are a horrible store manager and should be ashamed to even show your face behind that counter.

The service at Pep Boys in West Chester, PA is fantastic! I had my car inspected and days thereafter, my car wouldn't start. I had my car towed to Pep Boys (they offered to absorb the cost of the tow but fortunately, I had a contracted tow service to use). They then replaced my battery which took care of the issue.I then noticed a tail light and head light bulb out. I called them the next day and they squeezed me in on a Saturday and took care of the issue (replaced one bulb and adjusted the second bulb) complementary and on the spot. Great customer service Cody, Anthony & team!!!!

I call to see if they had time for an inspection told me to bring it in. On inspection one of my tires failed. They got the tired some another location it was delivered to this store installed and out in no time. Good job team..

Went here for my first out of warranty oil change on my Mini Cooper. So glad they were knowledgeable about my little car, it s hard to find people that work on Minis. Got me in and out in an hour or so with an appointment. The guys there were super nice and the lobby had a work station set up so I worked on my laptop while I was there. Came with a free mini safety inspection. I ll be back for sure!

I never write bad reviews. It is out of character. However, I am distraught after paying for the same repair multiple times only to find out it was never the issue in the first place. I should not be paying for parts I don't need or we're never the issue. I don't feel as though the issue was properly explained. This leaves me frustrated and having to seek out a different technician for both honesty and clarity. I do not work on cars. Nor it is my job to understand them at the same level of a mechanic. It your job to not take advantage of your customers and to make them feel not only safe on the road, but to make sure they understand that their money is of value.However, I did enjoy the employees kindness during the process. That is the redeeming factor after losing a lot of money.

Most pep boys in the area were not able to accept me for walk-in, they accepted me for walk-in for state inspection, finished it quickly. My phone was on low battery, and they gave me a portable charger to connect it. I would prefer these guys over other locations.

I walk into pep boys and I told the employee that I made an appointment online and he seemed shocked that I made an appointment online and then he called the system the r word. Then he was about to take my keys and then I told him what was wrong with the car and what I needed done to confirm that they were going to do and work on it and he had no idea what I was talking about. I told him I already got a diagnostics done and he wanted me to get another one done and charge me $100 even though I told him I just needed one thing done and he refused to do it. The experience was poor and did not recommend anyone goes there.

DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.Do not get tires from anywhere that does not do force balancing like Discount Tire. Getting tires from pepboys will make your car feel like you have something broken or a bent axle since they're in the stone age with balancing. Vibration was horrible for the past 2 years, and nothing resolved my issue until I found out about force balancing at Discount Tire. They did it in about 30 minutes, with lifetime balance and rotation on those tires.Pepboys also made me get an "alignment" for the warranty on the tires. They actually made one of the values worse and said the entire vehicle's camber was off, as if the whole vehicle was leaning right! Dealership checked alignment and said it was fine. Overall getting tires here has been a disaster and added stress that could have been avoided.Their social media contacted me, saying they would try to resolve this issue and heard nothing back. This company sucks.

I brought them 4 tires I bought at Tire Rack's warehouse in Delaware. They not only mounted and balanced all 4 tires for just $89.00, they put them on the car and noticed that the tire pressure monitors needed re-programming.

A couple weeks ago I came in with two flat tires from two separate cars and they fixed it no problem. They were efficient, friendly and decently priced.Tires are still holding up well too.

AVOID AT ALL COSTi came here for an oil change simply because it was convenient. well i just took my car to have the oil changed at another place only to find out that they stripped the drain plug on my oil pan and now i have to go to the dealership for parts. filing a claim with pep boys has been a nightmare they disconnected my call 5 timesEDIT - They wanted me to take my car back to the place that initially caused the damage... Pep boys could not fix what they messed up, I had to take my car to a dealership to do so. I had to pay for the oil change plus more $$ to a dealership to fix what they messed up.

The experience overall could have been better. They did not recalibrate the car so that my engine light would go off. So the engine light was still on after they completed the repair. I told them this, and they were like there is nothing we can do for you. So I had to go to another facility to get a diagnostic to see if something else was broken. Then I drove back to Pep Boys and had them clear the recalibrate and zero the engine light off. Pep Boys should have cleared the engine light before they completed the repair.

I ve been a loyal customer of Pep Boys in West Chester since I first discovered them several years ago. I enjoy seeing the familiar faces of Pierre and Cody each time I go in for service. This makes me feel more comfortable from the moment I walk in.The entire team is always respectful and transparent with me about my service needs, and I appreciate when they let me know they re a little busier than usual so I can plan accordingly. They are great at communicating with me via text and phone calls. No guessing the status of my vehicle!I trust the team will not try to sell me on something I don t need, and I ve never had an issue with the quality of any service. Thank you, guys!

very courteous and professional. 4 tires and alignment were done in a reasonable time. Service desk looked for coupons and any other discount that they could give. They actually made me feel like part of the family

I gave a great review three years ago, but that was then, and this is now. I put my 2017 ram in for inspection. It was basically a sticker since I checked everything at our township shop beforehand. I was then called stating my truck failed inspection needing wipers(rainx one week old) and also needing upper ball joints,lower ball joints,hub assembly,alignment, etc. This work totaled around $2000. I refused the work and found it suspicious. I had to pay a fee to get the keys back, and I put it at another shop for a second opinion. To no surprise, the truck needed nothing to pass inspection and a bill of $54.23. If the work to my truck actually needed to be done, the estimate from the dealer with oem parts was $1375. I went into pep boys for a refund of the amount paid with all the paperwork, but they refused to come clean with the scam. Please avoid this shop now at all costs they are dishonest and want to do work on your vehicle that doesn't need to be done.

Pep Boys West Chester improperly diagnosed the cause of my brake malfunction. They tried to sell me an over charged master cylinder that I did not need when I needed a vacuum pump. They did not do a sufficient evaluation of my brake system to determine the real cause of my brake issues. They only replaced brake pads on 3 of 4 rotors. They charged me for a brake fluid replacement that they never did. They put a rear brake sensor on a front brake pad. And the overall customer service sucked. I had to take my vehicle to another mechanic .5 miles away to get my car running again.
