My family took their boat to get fixed at the beginning of summer. He had it for 2 months and never got around to fixing it. Never answered calls. He said first he was waiting for the part, then didn t have enough people there to fix it needless to say he had it for 2+ months and never touched it. Then was going to charge for services took it to another boat shop and they had it fixed in 2 days. Do not take your boat here.

I would give 0 stars if I could. My boat sat at this place for one month. I don't think it was ever looked at. After the first two weeks, I called, they said they couldn't get my part, here I found it right on the manufacturers website. I brought the part to them to install, and another two weeks I call and they apparently couldn't get to it. If you are that busy, atleast tell me, let me know, communicate with your customer. Instead I never received any sort of communication at all whatsoever. So I took my boat back and took my business elsewhere. Avoid this this place at all costs, they do not care. Thanks for the free month of storage of my boat though.

The most asinine mechanic I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. And I'm an ex trucker. In short: estimated $1200 labor to switch a motor and controls from one boat to another and remove that boats motor and controls to a pallet but then charged $3800. He then received cash on my behalf to sell the pallet motor but forgot to mail me a check for three weeks. He said he mailed a check but it never showed and so mailed another but it too never showed after nearly three addition weeks. The story;I sold a motor and took my boat to Henry at Dockside Marine to have the motor, controls and hydraulic steering removed from my vessel and installed onto the sellers as well as have his motor/controls removed and put on a pallet to pass on to another buyer. He said it would be approximately $1200 to do this. After a few weeks, with no communication that he had begun work, I called and he mentioned that he forgot about the hydraulic steering in his calculation and that it would be about eight hours extra to deal with that. This seemed reasonable and I can understand it slipping the original estimate. He also mentioned that he was nearly 20 labor hours into the process and about at the half way point because of many complications. This did not sit well with me as he couldn't articulate what complications took place other than typical issues related to bleeding hydraulic fluid and mounting/attachment. For reference I have dealt with mechanics on a very regular basis for 20 years dealing with repairs as a contractor driver and boat owner. So $1200 turned into $2000. I showed up to pay my part and found it was now $3800. And he accidentally added all of the hydraulic steering removal and install labor ($800) to my bill even though we talked about him splitting it 50/50. He apologized and luckily the buyer didn't complain even though he had already settled.I took a look at the buyers pontoon and Henry had mounted the throttle on the left, outside portion of the console. It was far enough away from the drivers seat that you have to stand up to reach it. Also, being in the isle, anyone can easily knock it while walking by. He did this without any communicating to either one of us. He excused the decision because 'it would have added hundreds to the price to fabricate a mount to put it in the correct spot.' Is that so, sir? But don't you think a phone call should have been made? The thing with this guy is that he does not call you until it's time to collect money. This means that you will have several weeks with your boat at his shop and not know what he has decided to do to it!! I have had entire calendar weeks with me calling every day, leaving a couple polite messages and even emailing him to never get a return response in any form.He sold the pallet motor for me and said he would mail me a check as I live over an hour away. He took my current address. After three weeks, I called and he said that he forgot to mail it but would get it done right away. A week later, after not receiving a check I called again and he didn't answer. Called a few times the next day and left a message. Nothing. Called eight times the next day. Sent an email and he responded that he was on vacation. Cool! When I talked the following week, he said "I mailed it to the address on file." Was it the address I gave him or an old-- yep, an old address. I told him I will just come down and get cash but he said that he already deposited it in his account and, because of taxes, couldn't get it back.He 'mailed' another check to the correct address. After a week, I didn't receive it. He said it was sent certified mail. The thing is, I checked online at USPS where they show you a picture of every piece of mail incoming to your residence now. Fancy! But nothing ever showed as coming from him. I work nights so am here every day when the mail comes and no one knocked for a certified check. Finally I drove out to him to collect the check. On the way to the bank, I realized that he had signed both the front and the back! You have got to be kidding me!!!

Here s the story of this place. Dan sold it to Henry the owner who is one of the rudest business owners I ve ever met. He had my boat for 6 weeks just to replace a distributor cap and never did it. He claimed he was back ordered in terms of parts. I sourced the parts for Dockside. Apparently they couldn t call another local dealer to source them on their own. By the way, I never once received a call to give me info on the boat. I had to call every single time. In the end he told me he doesn t usually work on boats of this age and shouldn t have taken it in anyway. They also left the key on in the boat, leaving me with a dead battery, and did not put cover back on properly(not an older tarp I had on top, but the original cover that just needed snapped in at the back). These people don t care about you or your boat. They want newer boats with high cost repairs so they can charge the customer a higher rate. That s the only reason I can surmise as to why it took them that long to install a simple distributor cap. Don t go here unless you want to be treated poorly and have your boat not cared for at all. Dan was nicer to me than Henry(the owner) was! I never received an apology from Henry, only Dan who as former owner was very sorry to hear about my experience. I assume the excuse will be we have a lot of other boats. Ok, but that doesn t mean you should not contact me, give me no information, and treat me and my property poorly. Just stay away.

My experience here was either gross incompetence or an attempted scam. It has been a few years since I had my boat there after an electrical meltdown. After it was there to be fixed I spent a week in remote Canada having to pull the boat out and charge the battery every 2 days by generator because the outboard was not charging the battery. The boat has been mothballed ever since.I decided to make time to get it fixed myself this time and discovered the wire that should have been charging the battery was smashed behind the newly installed voltage regulator and the harness side that it should have been attached to was neatly plugged and tucked into the harness bundle. It looked to neat to be an accident, but it if was a simple check with a multimeter would have shown it was not charging. I recall them trying to sell me on pulling the flywheel and replacing the stator at the time and that also makes me wonder. And the least of my complaints is that after I paid my bill and came to pick the boat up that evening after informing them it would be after hours I showed up to find it locked in the gated lot.

Henry did a full stringer, floor and carpet job on my boat and went above and beyond in the process and sent me photos every step of the way. He remained in constant contact the whole time. While it was an expensive process, he gave me a fair and honest price. He definitely earned a repeat customer. Thanks, guys!

Unfriendly. Borderline nasty. Not customer service oriented by any means. Owner needs to take a happy pill or retire, preferably the later

Dropped off boat to be looked over first charged 90.00 and told transom is bad they did t go any further in the inspection asked to check engine charged me another 90 told me I needed a starter and that it wasn't locked up they could turn it.....I paid them the 198 I owed and took it to pgh boat on the Northside he told me transom is ok and it's a newer starter on the motor and that the motor was hydro locked now how the hell can it be locked at one shop and not the other? I think this shop just says anything to get money out of customers I live in beaver and they are close to me but for all my boating needs for now on I am going to pgh boats

Took my boat here and they had it A YEAR. THEY LOST IT. then found it. Then couldnt get things due to covid. Yet didn't put anything back together before I came to get it. Said they called to have us come pick it up. Yet put in the wrong number. I would stay away. Always passing the blame.

Dockside has been very easy to work with. They communicate and will help you to make good decisions. I have also developed trust for Dockside which is often challenging with marine services.

Terrible customer service and unprofessional. I will never patronize this company again. Nor will I ever recommend it. Do yourself a huge favor and take your boat somewhere else.
