I have always loved staying at this hotel. I always recommend it. It's not for someone who needs a pool or big screen tvs. It's historic and n8ce place to get away from crowded touristy areas. If you like that then there are locations just a few min away. It's a place where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy the gorgeous view of the bay. Always friendly, and the rooms are all different, but have a welcome you are home charm about them. I sleep better at this hotel than my own home! Highly recommended!

We absolutely love visiting here. The rooms are clean and the hotel has a home away from home vibe. Very peaceful. Not your typical roadside hotel, but an experience.Rooms: Clean and comfortable

Stopped in to see this stunning little castle! As always the atmosphere is like walking into a time machine. The beautiful decor and the views are just want I needed to recharge from Portland life! It looks different every time. The owner has a gift for putting vintage lamps, old books and pictures in the perfect place. Looks like you walked right into the early 1900 s. The rooms are gorgeous! I just love this place and stay here every time I get a chance!

We stayed here over the long weekend, and have to say, it is a beautiful space that was incredibly peaceful. We were met by the hostess who gave us the tour, and our room looked out and over the street into the river. The rooms were quiet (even though it's on the main road we didn't hear any traffic) and the building was quaint and historic. It was a nice hub for us to explore south to Tillamook and north to the Oswald West state park. Building had old world charm and was perfect for us as a couple.

Had an amazing time during my stay! Came to get out of Portland for a few days and was not disappointed in the slightest. The location is unrivaled with a coffee shop just below the hotel and several hikes, viewpoints, and beaches just a short drive away. The building itself has so much personality and the family that runs the hotel is incredibly accommodating. My room was spotless when I arrived and cleanliness was never a concern during my entire stay.If you're going to this area of the coast, or even just passing through, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't post up at least one night here. Oh, and their board game selection is top-notch.

I loved this hotel with its vintage decor. The owner was gracious and kind, and personable. The gift shop nice and the guy there fun to talk to. The reason for a 4 star. I arrived at 9:15pm or so, the door was locked and the outdoor phone to ring and get in didn't work. Preparing to sleep in my car, another guest arrived who had a key. I got in! My key was in my room door lock, and the room was so fantastic. The phone worked the next day. Note: I stayed 2 years ago.

Our stay was good. There's no 'walk to the beach' opportunity. There's a beautiful park just across the street that abuts the Nehalem River. We saw a heron, a seal pup and, I swear to god, a very large fin cruising by ... I won't be swimming there.Place to get coffee and food on the street. I guess I was a little miffed that there was no breakfast, because of "covid". i like breakfast and thought that was part of what we were paying for. The room itself was beautiful; great view of the river. Nice to wake up and look out that window. The room itself sometimes had an odor; like there might be a small leak in an outflow pipe in the walls, or something. We smelled it a couple of times; noticeable when windows closed and entering the room after several hours. We checked in with Addy. She was very nice. We liked that she was cautious about mask wearing and who was staying in the hotel. The price we paid was a good value, IMO. This hotel 'flies under the radar', not listed on popular travel sites. For a weekend stay it was last minute available and priced well under comparable hotels (Mo 6 on the weekend is just about the same price. yuck) We would stay here again.

Cool old place. Definitely haunted in a fun way. You could here walking and dancing on the floor above from my second story room at night and early in the morning. The only problem was there is no floor above the second floor. Very cool. Lovely host/owner. Clean, comfortable, appropriately appointed with period ff&e. Just plain fun and cool. Definitely worth the visit.

Wow, what a disappointment. I have been going here for years. Went last night, paid for the honeymoon suite with the hot tub. It didn't work, got put in another room, cable didn't work. The owner was not nice at all. Charged us the same price for the smaller room. Wouldn't talk to us, left a note with a 25 dollar gift certificate for my next visit. I absolutely used to love this place, one of my favorite places on the Oregon coast. I will never go back. Sad, the place has seriously gone down hill and the owner has no people skills whatsoever. Way too expensive, go get a room somewhere else. My opinion.

We drove up here to go crabbing for my birthday - it was very early in the morning so we stopped by to get a breakfast sandwich. The woman who took our order (Saber?) ended up making a mistake & put avocado on my sandwich. I am deathly allergic. I caught this mistake though, thank goodness, & didn t eat it.I returned later in the day to ask if there was any way I could get a refund. The woman at the counter (blonde) was very kind, apologetic, & took care of the issue for me. The 5 star review is solely for her and her customer service. I wish I would have got her name. Thank you so much for your professionalism and kindness.

This property is by FAR my favorite place to get away from Portland. I love the location and the views of the estuary, and so close to beach walking. The little touches like the candles at night, movies and snacks make it nice too. I have stayed in all the rooms, and don't want to say which are my favorite but they are all nice - and clean.

Can t say enough good things about this place. Very charming with tons of old history that is fun to look at. Makes you feel like you ve travelled back in time. Staff are very kind and accommodating. The rooms and bathrooms are always very clean. They offer a revolving library and decent DVD selection, along with a very great complimentary breakfast that exceeds what you are used to from most places. This is always a weekend getaway destination for us.

We had a wonderful stay at a reasonable rate. Although the outside structure of the building seems simple and rather modern, the interior is charming and decorated in a quaint Victorian style. The staff was very friendly and helpful and all the windows are double paned, so our room was quiet and peaceful. I'd gladly stay here again.

Great room. I like the old timey feel but with modern plumbing. Included breakfast was pretty good. I want to go back again. Note that they only have a few rooms and the fill up do reservations well in advance (think months, not days) are required.

This should be a must stay place for anyone who needs to remember what the finer things are like. Coffee in real china, an elevator from days gone by, exquisite antiques, and a very cheery welcome from Katie. She went out of her way to make my stay memorable! Definitely returning and bringing my mom next time.

Fantasticly quaint and peaceful environment with adorable vintage decor. Owner, Katie, has gone to great lengths to create and maintain a quality experience for her guests while offering reasonable rates. We will definitely return.Barb & Dan

Was lucky enough to stay here when we were driving down the coast without plans for lodging and noticed the hotel. They had a cancellation that day and we're able to give us their last room. Rates are very reasonable for the size of the rooms. Great family run establishment. Highly recommend.

Right above the highway, yet quiet with double windows. Small TV with Dish Network. Good view across to the bay. Light breakfast, DVDs, games, binoculars available. Bathroom is separate but not shared.

The WORST hotel I have ever stayed at. I ve never had to write a bad review of a hotel before but here it goes. The short version of events. The owner of the Old Wheeler Hotel disclosed names, room numbers and disabilities to me unprompted as well as my own to her guests. The owner of the hotel also violated several clauses in the American Disabilities Act- and committed two federal offenses during our stay. Impressive considering we were there for only one night. If you are anything less than nubile I would suggest you book elsewhere. The Old Wheeler Hotel is uninformed and discriminatory.

My daughter got us kicked out by managing to open the window and climb out onto the roof - it's a long story but anyways - the place was so incredible, I loved how the experience was so different from ... Say ... Motel 8, my daughter loved pretending she was a quirky victorian girl, which is how we ended up on the streets for the night ... The different rules of the place were a bit odd and the lady we met there was definitely a little paranoid - but nice and cheery until she kicked us onto the curb - wish we could've stayed the night, my daughter would've loved to stay forever ... Haha.

I was treated with amazing inhospitality and rudeness during my one unfortunate night here. At 9:30pm I rang the owner lady to ask if I might possibly change rooms. My neighbors happened to be ill - nobody's fault - but through very thin walls, I was still jolted by every cough even with earplugs.Well, I've never seen somebody act so put out in my life. When the lady showed up she stormed around, threw her arms in the air, did nothing to hide her supreme annoyance. She did show me another room, making very clear how much more it cost per night. Already wanting to melt into the floor, I declined. When she then decided to offer it to me at no extra charge, I felt so unwelcome that I couldn't possibly embrace any "favors" from this woman. It would have been much kinder of her to just calmly tell me "no" when I called. Instead I was treated to this spectacularly unprofessional display. The hotel is beautiful, with some warm and welcoming spaces, and my bedroom and bathroom were cozy and gorgeous. If I'd had a better time of it, I might not have been as unimpressed by the light pouring into my room all night from the pretty stained-glass window over the door. I still would have been as unimpressed by breakfast - mass-produced individually packaged bagels, instant oatmeal, cheap granola bars, boiled eggs. Not necessarily a great choice for a romantic weekend either, with those thin walls. Won't be going back!

Absolutely charming, and quiet. Everything was spotless and tastefully decorated. Totally recommend. Recommendation: They said it was an "expanded" Continental Breakfast... but not really. Needs a waffle iron or something. Lovely place.

If you want to stay at a uniquel hotel that takes you back in time, this is the place. The inviting ambiance is directly related to the beautifully decorated rooms, hallways, and sitting rooms. The antiques throughout the hotel take you back to a time before the advent of technology as we know it today. The hospitality provided makes you feel like you are part of the family.

Disappointed by the service from the hotel owner after we found out the jacuzzi tub wouldn't work. She did not even attempt to make it right and in fact avoided us after we let her know there was an issue! Just sad after spending $200 for a room. I will give that it is a charming place, but I will never go back and stay there again.

Wonderful place lovingly built and kept. Hostess was friendly but not familiar. Lots of wonderful touches. I booked one night then a second 5 minutes after I checked in. Near perfect.

Clean, clean place! It's all upstairs above the antique mall. Coffee ok, a bit difficult to mix coctails as there is no access to the sink in the food room. No kitchenette in our room. Sweet dining room, beautiful view from the rooms along the front, including dining. Great antique mall next door and restaurant across the street. Cioppino to dream about with half a dungeness crab topping it.

unfortunately, we were not allowed to book a room because they have an age limit for children under 13. I find this to be a bit extreme. Our daughter is very well behaved and even if I do say so myself, quite charming. You lost a potentially good customer.
