I bought a used truck which I later found out had a tune in it with no tuner. I had purchased my own tuner just to find out it wouldn t work until my truck was flashed to stock! The dealership said they could not do it and I would have to buy a new computer and get it programmed. This would have cost me a couple thousand dollars. I got a hold of Shelby and he said bring it in we can take care of you. Met with Shelby at my appointment day and time and chatted about different tuners that he would recommend for what I was wanting to do with my truck while his tech took care of the flashing. After an hour to hour and a half my truck was back to a stock tune and for less than $200!!! I ordered a new tuner based off of Shelby s recommendations and was able to fine tune my truck just the way I wanted it.So happy with the service I received here! Thank you guys for everything! I will highly recommend Shelby and his company to anyone I know needing engine service.Service: Auto engine tuning

We were on a big trip back home to Canada when one of our wheel bearings broke in the middle of the highway. The guys in the garage went above and beyond to get our car repaired. They managed to get us back on the road the same day and saved us so much time and trouble. Thank you again for the super fast help!

I am a general contractor on the Oregon coast. A 2003 Dodge ram 3500 is my main work truck. The truck had been having issues for a few years now... Things like the speedometer bouncing around like it had a mind of it's own from sitting still to going down the highway. Also gauges started to shut off then turn back on. With much research and help from a few local shops I had replaced the instrument panel and a couple sensors. Nothing helped.... Then it came down to the main computer..... No local shop but the dreaded dealership "could replace that". They wanted my truck for two weeks. My main company for two weeks ... Not an option. I got ahold of Johnson engine over the phone. With a few minutes of some information about the truck they were able to order the computer. They had the truck for a day and fixed all problems for a reasonable price. I contracted with JES to replace the engine in my pickup; I'd killed it at 194K miles. While it took longer than either of us would have guessed, none of the delay was due to JES malpractice. On the contrary, I could not have expected such honest and adroit service anywhere, so I am very happy I contracted with Shelby and his business. There is likely no, repeat no, where in the Salem Oregon area where one can get better service. Thanks, Shelby! I wouldn't recommend this place..for the reviews I thought this shop was different, but they charge you a lot of money for little work that they are not sure if it's the real problem on your vehicle..almost 650 just to replace battery cables and you have to wait almost a month until the items arrived.I'm so disappointed. They don't even answer when you call.they got mad at me to for this post and they printed, then show it to me, Jose the guy there said they could not finish the job because my opinion..and I still have the same problem on my truck..good luck guys!!Services: Electrical repair, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic

Made a tech talk and quote kind of call. I was almost overwhelmed by the intelligence and customer service I was provided over the phone with out having an appointment. That being said, if I had time before I left town, these guys would have definitely had more business from myself but were a wealth of knowledge and shared that with me about my previously purchased lml that had some "off road only" modifications prior to my knowledge. You guys saved me from a solid mistake, by asking local experts instead of trusting the internet. Cannot wait to do business with you and your team.

Shelby and Keith did a great job fixing my car. The car was an absolute disaster and requires some pretty thorough and intensive knowledge to fix. They were very fair on the price and found many used parts to repair things to keep the cost down low. Highly recommended

Dealership had recommended repairs for a steering gear leaking for $2700, not to mention the other 3 or 4 recommendations at $100 to $200 a pop. Johnson Engine Service did all of that and more for $700 less. They have worked on 3 of our cars and always done exceptional work, gone over and above, all at a reasonable price. I had my truck worked on at Johnson Engine Service recently and had nothing but a great experience. Not knowing what the problem was, I took my truck in thinking it was one thing when it actually turned out to be something completely different. The owner Shelby was very kind and respectful keeping me informed the entire process and my truck now runs like new again. A hardworking, fair, extremely knowledgeable, and honest crew.

Can't say enough good things about Shelby at Johnson Engine Service. Very polite, respectful and knowledgeable. He was able to fix my A4 in a timely manner and has gone above and beyond to help me find a reputable shop in Colorado since I moved from the Salem area. I would recommend Shelby and Johnson Engine Service to anyone.

Honest, friendly and very knowledgable. My issues ended up being a loose wire on my starter solenoid after spending a couple hours not being able to figure it out on my own. Got me in same day (even though they were booked 3 weeks out) and didn't charge me for anything. Would highly recommend. Great group of guys.

Excellent service. A must if you need help with a carbureted engine. Shelby offered solutions, but did not was not in any way pushy, and mentioned some of the items that could be done myself. Cost of labor and parts was a great value, and well worth every penny. I will be back!

Johnson made a thorough diagnosis of a problem, ('01 duramax diesel truck losing coolant).while the Dealership wanted to replace head gasket for $7500 when that may or may not be the problem.Johnson Engine service first performed the proper diagnostics then repaired the coolant leaks for a fraction of the cost of dealership's solution. I will need to put some miles on the truck to see if there are additional problems to address but I am so happy Johnson is going over my truck repair in a logical order, not performing a costly repair when it may not be needed.They are doing the right thing for my truck and my pocket book.I am so glad to have found a trusted shop to take my diesel truck.Service: Engine repair

The mechanics at Johnson Engine Service were helpful at first but my overall experience has been negative and I do not plan to go back. Here's the story: I brought a VW car I was interested in buying from a nearby dealership to be looked at by Johnson Engine Service. My initial interaction with Shelby, the owner, was positive, and they were able to see my car right away. From the results of the pre-purchase inspection Shelby told me the car would need at least $2,000 of work, and possibly much more, on about half a dozen issues. After some thinking and talking with the car dealership about price, I called several days later to talk to Shelby about the specific price for each of the needed repairs. He became impatient with me on the phone, was vague about the specific cost of fixing each issue, and after saying he would call me back never did. I decided to buy the car despite the need for so much work, planning to piece out the repairs over time. However, after taking the car to the 'POWER' authorized VW dealership in Corvallis, where I live, the mechanics there weren't able to find any of the issues wrong with the car that I had been told by Johnson Engine Service. Impatient treatment on the phone, no callback, and THOUSANDs of dollars of seemingly unnecessary recommended repairs make me hesitant to suggest other people patronize this business.

Johnson's Engine Service is what every repair shop should be. Other shops in town wanted an appointment and almost $100 just to bring my diesel truck in the bay and diagnose the problem. Not Johnson's - that's just not the way Shelby runs the shop. He had me bring the truck down right away, dropped what he was doing (in an already busy shop) and started to climb all over my diesel truck. He checked everything, got out the flashlights, listened to the truck, and was able to determine where the problem is, as well as being able to talk to me about how to get the truck running even better than stock.Shelby made a lifetime customer out of me - and that was just the initial appointment. I walked away from his shop with a better understanding than I ever have about my truck, and he treated me with respect - despite my ignorance about diesel engines. They're booked out a week (also a good sign of a busy and well respected shop) - and I can't hardly wait for my truck to go in for its appointment with the diesel doctors at Johnson Engine Service.

Joe at Johnson engine service wins the award for the most amazing super sleuth on an electrical/ module/ charging issue in my 2017 Ford Fusion energi. My car was exhibiting charging issues/ no audio in the radio/ sluggish starts/ check engine lights/ throwing communication codes/ and radio pop up messages that said my car was shutting down to preserve battery and crazy beeps and screeches !!He took the time to listen to me - entertain my google searches on related issue in a ford forum- right down to identifying my car was manufactured in a certain plant and it's thought that the batteries from that lot were defective and couldn't hold a charge- After 3 hours a couple scans and a deep dive into the hidden TSB for the TCU. He replaced the 12v battery, flashed the car - and off I went. As always I felt like his priority and appreciated his thoroughness.For the record - and this is not meant to denigrate another business which is why they shall remain nameless, but I did have my car into a dealership 1 week prior and was told all things look great and all TSBs were up to date - even though I reported these issues to them. I'm grateful for Johnson Engine Service once again for coming through. FIVE STARS!!

I took my Nissan Xterra in to get a new engine, and they did a great job in fixing it. The reason I'm giving it a 2 though is because the job was only supposed to take a week but after many excuses it was finally finished 4 weeks later than anticipated.
