Took a car in for a used car inspection. They didn't lift it at any point so they seemed to just be guessing ("we probably need to replace your tie rods but don't know which part or which wheel cause we didn't look" etc). Mechanic told us the car was a CVT and quoted us for CVT fluid. We popped the hood and there was a regular automatic transmission in there. This kind of damaged their credibility for me. They are nice and the experience was good but I do feel I was overcharged. $150 is pretty standard for a used car inspection but only for a thorough one. They should have charged half that to do what they did. I am very glad I went, but I wouldn't go again

Disappointed! First, the positive; I was happy with the service, they were competitively priced, got it done quickly and the service was friendly. However, when I got it back I saw this (see photos)!! A mechanic's greasy fingerprints all over my headliner and sunvisors. Here's my deal, I bought my car new and it cost 40K. I take care of my things and expect others to do the same, but sadly it seems more and more business owners only care about the $$$!Here's the proof; if a business owner truly "cares," that owner would strive to treat every customer like their own family and would stress these values to their employees through training and progressive discipline. These careless fingerprints are evidence this is not the case at Harold's. One can also take a quick look at their shop, it's a mess!I worked in the automotive community and know a lot about the industry and am old enough to know about customer service. Harold's has been around for a long time and if they want to continue to exist and the owner(s) want to leave a positive legacy they need to change. In the end, these grease stains may be a little thing in the grand scheme of things, but it made this old guy stop and write a detailed, fair assessment of his experience!!PS, I will clean it myself. Who has the time or the energy to take it back to the shop to have them do it? Seriously!!

I've taken my 82 Corvette to Harold's several times and they have always done a terrific job diagnosing and fixing its problems. If I trust them with my classic Corvette you can too. Harold's has been able to locate problems, find necessary parts that Chevrolet doesn't even have access to and complete electrical repairs.

11/9/22: I barely limped into Harold s lot to inquire about repairing my rough running GMC Sierra. I spoke with Elliot and he said they were scheduled 2 weeks out. Thinking I would try my luck at another shop, my truck refused to leave their lot and I opted not to have it towed to another shop but instead, to put myself in the queue.11/22/22: Got my first call from Elliot telling me what the rough running issue was and he also informed me that my truck was vandalized while on their lot and that one of my widows was broken. I was quoted a cost for the engine repair as well as the cost for replacing the window. I later learned that two vehicles were vandalized on 11/17 and that Harold s does not have liability insurance that covers damage to customer s vehicles. Nor do they notify the police if a customer s vehicle is vandalized at their shop that s the customer's responsibility.11/30/22: Got my final call from Harold s letting me know the repairs were finished but they suspected that my battery was bad because it wouldn t hold a charge. My truck would start with a jump but wouldn t hold a charge and I was quoted almost $240 for a new battery and install. I declined because I wanted a second opinion thinking I would just drive it the short distance to Les Schwab to have them test it, which I did the following day and the battery tested to be in good condition.Harold s did fix my engine problem but unfortunately I had to pay an additional $373 because my vehicle was unsafe on their lot and was vandalized; and, they tried to get me to pay for a new battery when my old one was fine. I would not recommend Harold's.Services: Auto side window replacement, Engine repair

I brought my car to them in pieces because a different mechanic thought he could pull a fast one on me. He did end up costing me more money because of his dishonesty but the people at Harold's were more than willing to help get my car back on the road. Always friendly and kept me updated while putting my car back together. Now that it's finally road worthy again I am more than happy with Harold's Quality Auto and can't thank them enough for doing what quite a few shops won't do (I know because I shopped around a bit).Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto maintenance

Had a heater core and hoses replaced a couple years ago. Recently had additional heating/cooling/radiator issues that I got repaired at another shop. I was told my cooling system was inundated with "stop leak" which I have never used and it caused other problems. I don't know for sure who used the stop leak, but I never have. I suspect that there was a leak they could not fix and stop leak was used.Service: Engine repair

After years of bad experiences with mechanics or body shops, Harold's quality auto repair finally provided me with the professionalism and quality work to earn my trust in their business. I will proudly recommend this business to many others. It takes a lot in 2021 to earn a good honest Google review. I think it's important to actually provide kudos to those who earn it. Great job Harold's, thank you.

Took them 4 1/2 hours to take a look my car. If I knew it was going to take that long I would have gone somewhere else. I understand it s first come first serve. After 2 hours went by I called and asked how much longer it was going to take because I didn t want to remain in the area if it was going to take awhile longer. The gentleman said they would take a look at my car within the hour. Over an hour went by and I didn t receive any calls or anything letting me know what the progress was. When you tell a customer it will be about an hour, you should strive for an hour or give the costumer a call to let them know it will be awhile longer. After 2 1/2 more hours, they finally took a look at my car. Like I said, if they told me it would have taken awhile due to busyness I would have understood and taken my car else where.

My daughter s truck, a 5.4 L 3V 2007 F150 had a major engine failure at 72K miles. The last time I needed a mechanic was over 10 years ago, always took it to Harold's in West Salem where I live. Went down and ordered a Jasper remanufactured engine to be installed. Just under $11K. I dropped off the truck on the agreed time and day. Fast forward 40 days, I called and asked for an update, I won't mention his name but he stated that he would get it done by the weekend. So, I took the next week off expecting to be breaking in the new engine. I stopped by Harold s the next Monday. The front counter guy that I usually talked to was on vacation and the gentleman that was taking my questions had stated, they have not started my truck engine replacement yet and will soon and that they were very sorry. I informed him that I was lied to. Without any issue, I said, I really need the truck back buy Wednesday the 1st of December. I got a call from the main front counter guy stating my truck was ready for pick up. I asked if they would have enough time to perform the routine break in procedure. I was reassured that they would check all the boxes . When I got to Harold s to pick up my truck, the front counter guy said, we filled it with full synthetic oil.. Red flag #4.. I said, ok, I ll just go drain and fill it back up with break in oil or just cheap oil as stated on the Jasper website per their warranty requirements. Red flag #5, front counter guy said, the starter squeals a little but if it bothers you, bring the truck back and we ll warranty it. After waiting 43 days to get my truck back, I was starting to get upset is the least to say. I drove it home. Questioning myself now, after spending almost $11K. I drove it to work, strange metal scraping sounds started to happen while at idle, I get home from work. Get back into the truck for more test driving, and now the starter is grinding on the flex plate/Flywheel, now it won t start. Now I m scared to take it back to the shop. I called front counter guy and he said he would fix any issues I may have. I informed him that they are not touching my truck I wanted to talk to the owner, and he said he s a hard guy to kind of get a hold of. So here I am, trying to get a hold of you Harold Wood. What are my options moving forward? I sure hope the flex plate isn t damaged. Truck has been sitting in my drive way for over a week and no response from Harold.Service: Engine repair

First time at Harold's, they are knowledgeable, and polite, will have more to say when my vehicle is finished, but so far very satisfied. Harold's fixed my car, they did a great job, I will go back if my car needs any other repairs, "Good work Harold's".

Harold's took my truck in with a broken starter. They stated that it would be a few days before they had it done, which I thought was more than fair. Later the same day, I got a call saying that a technician came in and made the full repair that day.Very impressed with the level of service and the pricing was very fair.I will be using them again.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Would NOT recommend anyone use Harolds! He kept our car for 3 days, charged us $300, and our car is worse off than it was when we took it in. $100 to run a diagnostic we had already had done for free at auto zone. We told him the problem and thought that was the charge for him to fix the problem, but that was just for diagnosing the check engine light. He was also supposed to fix our cruse control but now none of the buttons on the steering wheel work nor does the horn. Also, now the compartment that holds the fuses rattles constantly! It's a shame he is a part of the reason mechanics have a bad reputation for taking advantage of people.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Brakes, Oil change

The guys at Harold's have always been friendly and helpful. I started coming to Harold's 4 years ago after getting messed over by the Toyota dealership. They have saved me so much money because they always give me a better deal than any other place and they get the work done as fast as they can. That's a big deal when you only have one vehicle and can't always leave it. Thanks guys!

I have been bringing my 01 forester to Harold's for the last 3 yrs. Including regular maintenance, I've had 3 major jobs done, including replacing the clutch, replacing the braking system and replacing my timing belt. Ryan and Josh have always been honest about what was diagnosed and the repairs that were needed, regardless if some would consider it "bad news." A note for the other reviewers: Unfortunately, sometimes, it is going to be above the estimate, that's why it's called an estimate. They have also been under. The total problem doesn't show itself until you open up the car.Harold's has always been honest about what needs to be done, and have always done it professionally. They treated my car like it was their car.Just recently, my forester is showing her age and forcing me to look for a new used car. Ryan and Harold gave me a consumer report's worth of free advice about the cars that I'm interested in.They have my loyalty, for sure.

I like the guys in this shop. They offer prompt service at their counter and find ways to fit your schedule into their operating procedures. It is nice that I live in the same area as them because it is more likely that you can trust them in the long run with your vehicle problems. I would rate them 5 stars is they were better able to explain the cause of some of the abnormal noises my truck is making so I can plan for future repairs that will need to me made. I think the employees in this shop are great.

I've been servicing several cars over several years. Harold's is QUALITY in every way. Call them for an appointment. You will begin with a courteous person on the line who has your attention only. No transfer to another extension, no hold music. Just simply an informed employee who will book you a convenient appointment and be prepared to begin working on your vehicle. Simple. Perfect. Go!

Was recommended Harold s by a friend saying they don t overcharge and they are honest with fair pricing. However, as I bring in my car for a check engine light , it turns out I had a blown head gasket. Seemed pretty unrealistic to me considering I have a 2010 Jetta with only 130000 miles on it. They gave me an estimate of $2700 to change it. The car itself is worth $6000 used so I supposed it was worth fixing, and I was going to bring it in for the full change. However my friend recommended I take it to her family friends shop called Elite Auto Service on Commercial, just to see if I could get a cheaper fix. Turns out there never was a blown head gasket, only needed new coils and spark plug. The total only cost me $400, and they were honest to tell me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my head gasket.Moral of the story: They tried to rip me off.PS. They also forgot to put back in my air filter after inspection, I got a call the next day saying I had to bring it back in because they forgot it.

I have had several repairs done by Harold s and they always have done a great job of providing an accurate estimate and completed the work as promised. We had a transmission replaced and took it in for the check up and the Tech found a leaking seal, they called the transmission provider and they requested to replace the transmission even after months of driving it! Couldn t ask for a better team of mechanics and their choice of suppliers for parts.

My car's check engine light came on and I thought I'd fix it myself. After I reached the end of my YouTube abilities, I took it over to Harold's. They checked it out, told me what was wrong in words I can understand, and then fixed it for a reasonable price.Next time, I'm still gonna try to fix my car myself. If I get stuck again, I'll come back here.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

I've had our car serviced twice at Harold's. There will NOT be a third time. The first time I had the AC recharged. The quote was higher than other shops, but since I like to support local businesses, especially during the COVID epidemic, I went ahead and did it. What the heck, the counter guy seemed really nice and seemed to be professional. While they were working on my vehicle they called and said that it should have the whole AC system replaced for approximately $1200.00. I declined to have that done and just had the AC recharged. The second visit was a couple of weeks ago. The car was making a noise and I had already correctly diagnosed the problem as the cooling fan clutch. Again, Harold's price was higher than other shops, but they are close to home and again I know how hard local businesses have been hit by this pandemic. They come across as very friendly and professional. While the car was in the shop I got a call that there was another issue with the car. The starter gear was not retracting all of the time and it was clicking on the flexplate. Okay. No problem. Putting in a new starter is pretty easy, especially on my Yukon. The shop guy proceeds to tell me "Your flexplate is wobbly" and it needs the starter replaced AND the flexplate replaced to the tune of $1500.00. I got suspicious when the quote of the starter alone (just the part) was $350.00. I told them that I would take care of that issue later.I just found a new mechanic. He is excellent. He changed the starter in about 20 minutes. The price of the starter was MUCH less. Guess what? The flexplate is NOT "Wobbly".I also had my new guy do a full inspection of the AC system as well. Guess what? Everything checks out just fine. NOTHING needs to be replaced. Hmmmmmmmmm.I wonder how many people would have paid for a "wobbly flexplate" or replaced a whole AC system when it wasn't necessary. People who just don't know any better. THAT is my whole problem with this shop. They were DEFINITELY trying to sell me expensive repairs that I did not need.To sum up: I would NOT recommend this shop to ANYBODY. In my opinion I think that a good portion of the people who gave this business 5 stars have no idea that they've probably had unnecessary repairs done, and at the very least were way overcharged on parts.I just went and read all of the reviews for Harold's. If you haven't taken the time to do so you really should. Most of the 1 star reviews mirror my own review. Wow, I had no idea how many people have had this similar experience at Harold's. There is a trend here folks...

talked with someone on the phone for 10 min or so about my AC before bringing my jeep in. The confidence in this guy drew me in.Booked a appointment to leave my jeep there on Saturday to have the AC fixed.arrived to fined out they never actually put me down on the books. they could fit me in though left my jeep to get a call 60 min later letting me know that they couldn t fix the AC.i should really just leave the review at that...BUT what this is saying is they don t have confidence to do there job?it s like walking into subway and being told they don t have the ability to make you a sandwich...really what it came down to was they made the mistake of not booking me the right way and didn t have the time to do the job. so the collect there $40 fee for looking it over and telling me they can t do it... what a joke.there 1st reasoning was they didn t want to be liable forwiring an aftermarket AC and it didn t have the correct controls. I asked if they could just wire in an aftermarket switch and they said no.when i get there i let them know i was disappointed that they where not able to do the job. they replied sence they didn t have the correct controls they could not. then he states he could wire in an aftermarket switch but they don t wanna do that because it makes them look bad that they did not do the job right. all along failing to see how bad they look in the moment.don t wast your time here... any other mechanic would be able to fix this. they have an un organized mess on their hands.Should never have bean charged for them wasting my time...Service: Air conditioning

I got to say, Harold s is hands down the BEST repair shop in the whole willamette valley. We had a transmission go out and needed our vehicle back promptly, Elliott at the front was quick to get our parts ordered so they d be in the shop before the work week was over, and to our surprise Chewy stayed late to get it done for us to have for the weekend. These guys are always so accommodating, and respectful of their customers. Giving them details of the issue and helping them understand what is going on with their vehicle. My fiance and I only bring our vehicles here and are officially customers for life.THANK YOU AGAIN CHEWY!

I have always received Great Service, to include their professional integrity and trust. I recently was guided by a friend to try another servicer to save money, well I am embarrassed that I did not follow up with Harold's, since now my car runs worse than before I brought it to that servicer. As a single Lady, I depend on honest integrity, so thanks Harold's for all you have done for me! I will be back!

I came In due to my check engine light, I sat for an hour with no one telling me what was wrong with my car even though they had pulled it out of the garage so they could work on other cars. Also the workers have been bickering the whole time, I don t know if that s just how they are but it was super uncomfortable and I just wanted my car back so I could leave.Service: Auto engine diagnostic
