We are neighbors to this garage and my husband has been a client. This is a neighbor friendly garage and we are so appreciative! They have been quick to help when our cars have not started in the morning, using their jump pack to get us going. And they are currently charging my dead car battery free of charge. Nice group of guys working here who genuinely seem happy to help! And they re always so busy but don t make you feel rushed! Thank you so much

We have been going to Tom Dwyer since we moved to the neighborhood in 2020. They have exceeded our expectations for a garage. Always honest and take the time to go over everything in detail with us (especially me ). I know that our cars are safe on the road with their guidance. Highly recommend!

I trust this company as much as I trust my physician; which is 100%! The front desk is very thorough at explaining every detail & estimated repair. I've never had any issues with the repairs done on my car and I appreciate the honesty I allows get from them at every step of the way. In short, I'm a lifelong customer!

Just a really great mechanic. I had issues with my first car and they were able to help me with returning it. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Their prices are quite reasonable and their turnaround time is really fast.

Tom Dwyer has my go to shop for years now. I recommend them to all of my friends as they ve always been knowledgeable, honest, and willing to go above and beyond for their clients. As long as I live in Portland I will continue to bring my car here!

Today I had an appointment to have a nail removed from a tire and a patch fix on the nail hole. Because it took an hour and a half, they did the work free of charge and they apologized for how long it took.I ve been taking my cars here for years and these guys have consistently been honest, courteous, and thoroughly knowledgeable about every auto issue that I ve brought to them. They ve saved me thousands of dollars. They are the most trustworthy auto shop that I ve found anywhere.

I ve been bringing my car to Tom Dwyer for about 10 years, and have been consistently impressed with their professionalism, expertise, transparency, and communication skills. When I moved to a different neighborhood in Portland, I tried a couple of other mechanics who were closer to our new home, but it quickly became obvious what I was missing. They fix cars and when they fixed mine it came back without any funny noises and brakes that worked great. Straight forward about price and work being done. Kept to the timeline they told me and had friendly service!

Very nice and helpful people but I did not decide to go with them after a VERY expensive diagnostic because they wanted 2x - 3x more for every repair. They could tone down the "urgency" of their suggestions too. They were trying to get my 2008 car back up to "optimal" state and it was just unnecessary. They sort of talked down to me on the phone like I didn't know what I was doing, which is never appreciated. But I'm sure they do top notch work and I appreciated the thorough diagnostic.

I needed to go to a mechanic after my check-engine light turned on. I don t trust dealerships anymore (they always overcharge!), and I found this place by searching Google. It has high ratings, and after my visit, I can see why. I dropped off my car not only for the check-engine light, but for a full diagnostic work-up. They found a few issues (leaking valve, dirty air filter, bad battery, oil change needed) and fixed them all within a day. They did a great job of explaining the issues, what needed to be done, and gave a price that felt fair. This business DOES NOT serve any customers with cars older than 15 years of age. Every person is taught the same script and they make an effort to make sure to not take you on as a new customer as you would take away their potential work from their loyal customers somehow?My car just needed routine maintenance and apparently they are against the right to repair what you have, prefer that you have a shiny car that you brought in from the car lot, and are afraid of any potential issues or people who are poor and can't take on large repair bills for example. I'm perfectly fine with my repairs when necessary, but this is unacceptable behaviour and the customers here are supporting this type of business practice.The level of pretentious is off the charts here. Yikes.

I almost never leave a review anywhere; good or bad, but after bringing my car in here twice (for two separate issues), I can't not leave these guys a review. They were able to diagnose my electrical issue when another shop couldn't. They were competent, friendly, quick, and fair on pricing. I will never bring my car anywhere else. Just found my local mechanic. Pretty darn happy with the service provided. I scheduled an appointment at a time that worked for me in advance, got my pickup truck in and out within the same day, and the truck now drives like a dream. I didn't have to sit there for 10 minutes getting up-sold on services I didn't want and I wasn't slammed with texts for other repairs I should consider. Yep, I know my truck has areas of improvement but the Tom Dwyer team was able to keep on task with the hot topic of the day without hassling me. I didn't get that type of professionalism from the Toyota dealership the previous 5 years. Kyle was wide awake and courteous at 8AM and Dean had a great sense of humor both on and off the phone. The staff is not only friendly and professional, but they keep track of what needs doing without suggesting bullcrap things that don't really need to be done. They spotted a barely-there problem and suggested it might be under warranty. It was, and I was able to take it to the dealer and get it sorted. i.e. they want my car and me taken care of, and I so appreciate that. Will always happily go here.

We've been using Tom Dwyer Automotive services for somewhere around 10 years I'd say. We've always left happy with our interaction and confident the work was done well at a fair price. I can recall only one minor issue that arose from a miscommunication and when I brought it up it was resolved in my favor with no discussion needed. It's nice to not feel anxious about car repairs. I recommend them highly.

Tom Dwyer is creepy and may harass you (as he did to me).After receiving 4 mailings over 9 days asking for my "annonymous feedback," but which included a hand-written number on them for identification, I finally posted a 1-star Yelp review, where I mentioned that they tried to upcharge me, and I was ultimately unsatisfied with the work that they did. I mentioned all the junk mail. Pretty straight-forward review. Other people had commented on this same behavior.The owner responded by posting personal details about me and the problems with my car on Yelp, clearly violating my privacy. He massaged the story too, but you'd expect that, and it wasn't worth a point-by-point rebuttal.But I did reply to his reply to call out his unprofessional and aggressive behavior. He responded within 10 min BY CALLING MY HOUSE. I screened his call.He'll likely reply to this post, as well, so you can judge from his defensiveness if this is the kind of mechanic that you would trust with your vehicle.Basically, the firm is pushy and aggressive, with some dodgy ethics, and you should just avoid them.Service: Engine repair

Discovered Tom Dwyer after moving to Sellwood from NE Portland. Job done right the first time for a very fair price. Have been back a few times since and really like doing business with these guys. We are very happy with Tom Dwyer Automotive! We have had minor and major work done - from simple fixes to our windshield wipers to a 100% replacement of our engine. They've done it all and we love their work. They know what they're doing, they treat us well, and they stand behind the quality of their work.As a female customer, I would to point out something really important -- Sometimes women are not treated so well by mechanics or customer service people in automotive repair shops. There are sometimes assumptions in this industry that women don't know what they're talking about, and we have to be on guard against being ripped off. This couldn't be further from the truth at Tom Dwyer Automotive. I have to say, this is a MAJOR point in this shop's favor! I love how I am treated there.We have been taking our cars to Tom Dwyer for about 3 years now. I know the shop is very popular, so I was a little afraid that it would be over-busy or we would be treated like a number. That was not at all the case. Though they serve a lot of customers, I really feel like they know us and they know our vehicles. Furthermore, their expertise is unmatched. Now that we have gotten to know how well they treat their customers, and what amazing technical experts their staff mechanics are, I can't imagine going anywhere else. They are straightforward with us about time and cost - there are never any surprises. Their customer service staff is very communicative so we always know what's going on.

I can't say enough good things about this shop. I started taking my cars to Tom Dwyer at least 10 years ago after a friend personally recommended them, and now I wouldn't go anywhere else. I trust them completely: they've told me when repairs weren't really necessary and I could continue to drive my old car around. They're great for pre-purchase inspections if you're looking to buy a used car and they'll be very thorough. I recommend them to everyone I know: honesty, integrity, and some character too! You won't regret taking your car here.

My mom found Tom Dwyer through recommendations on Nextdoor. She was very happy with their service on her Prius especially since she's always nervous about being overcharged. (Let's not pretend that's not a problem with some mechanics.)Next a friend went, equally happy with her service.We took our Toyota Highlander when it needed routine service and they said they don't do that! They do an evaluation and decide what needs to be serviced instead of just following the guidelines and replacing things that are just fine. We needed new brakes (which I already suspected) and their price was right in the appropriate range. They also solved an ongoing mystery: the tire pressure light was always on, despite checking our tires many times. Turns out the spare has a sensor and it was low! I had no idea.I highly recommend them.

After a $300+ Inspection and a $4000+ estimate I got a second inspection for free (which Dwyer said no one does it for free, they just charge you other ways) from a competitor and all it needed was fluids for $80. I can t see how their competition squeezed in a $300 inspection to the $80, but clearly I won t recommend or return to Dwyer considering their shady practices and overpriced services.Service: Vehicle Inspection

Overpriced and tried to sell me on some preventative maintenance far before my vehicle s maintenance schedule. The business is in a gravel lot which was hard to navigate for my car. Not to mention it was covered in grease and dust when they were done. I had a great experience here, from the bidding/quote process, to the logistics of scheduling the repairs, the communication and transparency during repairs, to the awesome follow up at the end.
