I cannot rave enough about this team. Brandon, Dennis and crew have been taking care of my trusty steeds - plural, because the first one got totaled while parked ;( for over four years. They are quick, communicative, and most importantly kind and honest! And, they KNOW their Volvos from past to present [I drive a 'youngish' 240 with 230k].I also want to address any complaints regarding 'answering the phone' - this is a local shop, NOT a dealer, and they spend their time servicing the vehicles and ensuring prompt service delivery, not answering the phones. They always respond within no more than a few hours (MAX!) to emails. I have taken my cars in multiple times to their team (I drive old cars, this is de rigueur for vehicles that are old enough to drink....) and have never had an issue with communication. In my opinion, if your mechanic is busy (with clients) and not on the phone that probably means that they are trusted and coveted for their service.

I previously called Vol-Tec for a quote to get my rear main seal replaced, and they quoted me $900. Tabor Volvo did the rear main seal for $530 instead, as well as was able to get me an appointment at the same time Vol-Tec did. The car needed some huge jobs done on it (heater core, rear main seal, and knock sensors) and they got all of it done within 2 weeks. Brandon was super communicative and friendly. Without a doubt the best place to get work on your Volvo done in Portland!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair, Air conditioning

I brought my 2016 XC90 to this shop. The tech (Andrew) knew these modern platform Volvos well (they're called the "SPA platform"). I had an SRS airbag light on. Within minutes he found the problem and had the car fixed. The light has stayed off. This shop is fair, affordable, prompt, and most of all - skilled in what they do!Services: General repairs & maintenance, ElectricalServices: General repairs & maintenance, Electrical

I brought my V70 to the shop over 2 months ago and I am still waiting for it to get fixed! It was initially taken in for a fuel pump, as the car was taking too long to start. I waited over 2 weeks for part to arrive after waiting a month for appointment, then part was faulty as it made loud buzzing noise after repair, (which you would think a technician would have been able to hear after repair). Waited another month for appointment to fix problem and car is still sitting there to this day! And now Brandon is on vacation and other technicians have no idea about repair. They rarely ever answer the phone and never call me back after I leave messages. I have no idea why I have received the lousy customer service as I see other reviews have been good but this is really disappointing. Be on the lookout for a loss of use claim Tabor Volvo.

Tabor Volvo is really an honest and very knowledgeable repair shop. They have been caring for my 32 year old 240. They are prompt, and repairs are always reasonably priced. Plus they are very friendly and easy to communicate with.

Purchased a used Volvo 850 and was worried about odometer tampering. They took a look at my control module for free (same day) and verified the correct mileage. Tried many Volvo shops in the metro area and none of them had answers. Will be bringing my car here until she dies.

Wonderful and knowledgeable mechanics on Volvos. If you've ever had to go to a mechanic who isn't familiar with Volvos, then you know how frustrating and expensive it is while their guessing the issues. Not here. He knew exactly what it was and is extremely reasonable and fast. Highly recommended.

No one wants to have to deal with a car repair. Especially when on a road trip. Especially with limited time on one of many stops on your trip. But, that was what we faced as we approached Portland yesterday. This morning I took my car here and all the other raves here are on point. Brandon replicated the issue in front of me, gave me a quote and the repair was done quickly. If only I were lucky enough to have a Brandon near me he would have my business !Service: General repairs & maintenance

I'm really glad I found Tabor Volvo. Brandon is really easy to talk to and nice, I appreciate that he always has time to talk to his clients. He's also really affordable- I've never felt like I was charged too much for anything. I really like having relationships with my mechanics since I have to see them fairly often due to my not always great driving and as long as I have a Volvo and live in Portland I'll go to Tabor Volvo.

Brandon is great! I called about my XC70 s AC blower fan making noise. He had me come in same day to take a look and was able to solve the issue right then and there. I ll absolutely be back for other work. Glad I found my new neighborhood Volvo shop.

Mitch and Dennis are awesome! I don't let anyone else touch my 82' 240 Wagon. Two words, Reasonable and Honest.

Mitch and Dennis are simply the best, honest, quick, and do excellent lasting work. Just knowing they are there relieves so much anxiety about owning my old jalopy. They keep it running like it's brand new. If you can't get them on the phone just drive over and schedule an appointment. A true Portland treasure who really know their Volvo stuff!

Brandon was great--friendly, fast, accommodating, and very clear at explaining why my XC70 was chewing though low beam bulbs for breakfast. Will definitely come back next time I need any service/repairs for my Volvo!Service: ElectricalService: Electrical

Great shop, great mechanics. Mitch and Dennis were always very knowledgeable and professional. Prices were reasonable too. My only complaint is that they never answer their phone or return messages. Which while irritating wasn't a deal breaker when I just worked up the street. However, when I moved to Tualatin, it became too much of a hassle to have to drive all the way into town just to make an appt. So I had to find a new mechanic. Fortunately, PDX has several great Volvo mechanics.

There really isn't anything else great to say about these guys that hasn't already been said. I have an 83 244 and I will only take my car to them. They have advised against things i wanted done simply because it wasn't necessary and/or was more expensive than something else they could do that would solve the problem. That is super rare with any mechanic. Simply put, they know their stuff and will definitely give you a fair and reasonable price on repairs. Only thing that I would say is a negative is that it is extremely difficult to get your car in without a 2 week to sometimes 2 month wait. (seriously, they are that busy.) And don't even bother calling, I've never gotten an answer, or a call back. So, you gotta make your way over there just to see when/if you can get your car in sometime within a month. Otherwise, if you're not needing your car for daily use, or you are close enough to go see them, they are the ones to go to.

I have an '87 240 and i would never take it anywhere else. By far the nicest, most honest and knowledge auto shop i've ever been to. Old school dudes, super busy most of the time, but always willing to help you out and answer questions. Every time i get my car back from them its like she just spent the day at the spa. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mitch and Dennis at Alamo.

I have 4 Volvos officially, and 2 more in storage next door (awaiting paperwork transfers) , Models from 1982-2015. 2 240 sedans, 2 V70 T5's (98 and 02, Manual!), an XC90, and a V60 t5.I've been going to Alamo (now Tabor) since they were founded. Dennis is still there, Mitch has retired, and passed his baton to Brandon.Great fast service, (considering it's a 2 man operation) and now they handle more modern Volvos on top of the older ones.Services: Transmission, Electrical repair, Exhaust, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair, Wheel alignment, Brakes, A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning, Battery, Oil change

This is the only shop I trust with my '89 240 wagon! Owned by two honest guys who genuinely love Volvos. I've taken my trusty steed to many different shops in town, and until now it's been hard to find an honest shop that won't try to rip you off.

I had recently purchased my first Volvo; a red, 15 year-old Cross Country wagon I affectionately named Ruby (although she did suffer a bit of name-calling the first few weeks of ownership as she had an array of undisclosed problems the previous owner, of course, failed to mention). Regardless of her imperfect condition, I was head-over-heels in love. It's a feeling only fellow elder-Volvo owners know well.Having just relocated to Portland, I wasn't thrilled about finding a trusted, local automotive mechanic (mostly because I'm pretty sure that's considered an oxymoron), as I've experienced my share of aggressive, near-criminal transactions from dealerships to local shops in the past. I know having a vagina often exacerbates these experiences, but I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable car owner, reading entire manuals, researching issues using code readers, and making common repairs requiring a little research and elbow grease....But you don't need to know NUTHIN' dealing with Mitch, Dennis, and Brandon over at Alamo Automotive. I have never had such a positive experience addressing vehicle repair. Not only did they get to know me and my vehicle, they reciprocated my love and enthusiasm for older Volvo cars - if that wasn't completely obvious as their entire lot is brimming with mostly cars at least fifteen years old. After completing the repair of my vehicle and diagnosing a recurring and mysterious oil burning smell, they not only came in under budget, but prepared an entire list of services I would need, triaged them in order of most urgent, and provided prices for all of it. Who does that??? People who really, really care about keeping your Volvo on the road for 100,000 more miles than you expected. That's who these guys are.Alamo Automotive has three things that are almost impossible to find together at any shop, anywhere: complete honesty, lowest cost, and specialized lifetime experience. They don't have three things that some shops might have but are essentially meaningless: a comfortable waiting room for you to fart around in and drink shitty coffee (you get a great price because they aren't in the business of charging you to remodel their shop), a useless receptionist to pass on messages (sometimes they're not able to answer the phone when you call - because they're actually working on your car!), or surprise upsells (because they're honest and want you to come back if you need them).Protip: be respectful and give them a couple weeks notice to make an appointment; they very obviously are the best in the entire region and have deservedly gained an almost cult-like following.I'll be taking my Volvo in again soon. Just for preventative maintenance. And because I like Mitch's hugs.

Old world service from an old world mechanic. This guy is a dying breed and when they're gone they're gone Don't take your vintage Volvo anywhere else because I don't know of anyone else who will care, or know, as much as he does.

The place is pretty run down looking, but I had read some good reviews, so I tried them anyways. They weren't able to handle my problem (they aren't a dealer, so can't honor Volvo recalls), but were very friendly, informative, and helpful. I'll definitely be back.

These guys are really honest. I bought another Volvo specifically because these guys only work on Volvos, and I don't want to deal with finding another mechanic shop. However good luck getting through on the telephone, and they book out like about a week in advance.

Best mechanic ever, fixed several longstanding issues that other mechanics could not find or fix, explained everything very well despite me not being a car person. Cannot recommend enough.

Mitch and Dennis are knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and honest. Unsurprisingly, that makes them busy, too. It brings peace of mind to know that these guys are looking after your Volvo.

When has going to an auto repair shop ever made your day? That is a sentence I would likely think never to force breath from my lungs! But, Alamo has made the impossible happen. Thank you for treating me so well and running such a superb business!
