I was talking with our daughter yesterday and she reminded me and was so grateful for suggesting we take her car for a third opinion which we received from Steve s. Two dealers agreed on a very expensive new transmission . I thought I d update my review as it s been over six months and our daughter has taken multiple trips now between her new life after college as a teacher in Southerland 3 1/2 hours away and our house in Tigard. Best $285 I ve spent ever!!! Over six months and still running great.Thank you, Thank You, Thank You!!!!My wife and I own a small business with 3 vehicles and have five kids in various used vehicles. There s always a vehicle with something wrong. This trip our daughter was told by the dealership that her 3 year old car needed a $5200 transmission. We went to Steve s and literally $285.00 and that included two light bulbs and everything s been great.Honesty, integrity and friendly service!!Thank you

Thoughtful staff with some of the best repair rates. They allowed me to bring my own parts and when I couldn't find a part they went above and beyond to call dealerships and find it.

We take all of our fleet to Steve's automotive and they have always worked hard to take care of us. It's important to know what needs to be taken care of and if we can wait on repairs or maintenance until later and they always let us know. On this occasion our van was having problems and they were able to quickly diagnose the problem and order the part so that we can get back to using the vehicle again. Thank you so much can't recommend this family owned business enough!Service: Electrical repair

Came into here two weeks ago. The AC stopped blowing cold air in the middle of a heat wave and coming from out of state. Brought it to Ed where we were charged over $100 to inspect and totaled over $260 to also recharge it. He also offered to look deeper and apply another fix that would have totaled everything to over $600. We were told that there was still an issue and the fix won't last long because he couldn't confirm where the issue exactly was but had an idea. He did promise that it would last for a short time and allow us to get to our next destination. We decided just to recharge because of how ridiculously expensive it already was. The next day the AC already started blowing hot air. We went back to have him actually fix it just to be told it's going to be over $300 with no guarantee it'll be fixed and costs could go up. They essentially told us they didn't care and to kick rocks. Despite how desperate we needed it fixed, we couldn't take how they were extremely rude they were to us and overpriced their services were. We dealt with the drive in the heat wave and took it out of state (to a more expensive area than Portland). Was able to get it inspected and fixed for about the price of what it cost him to inspect it. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

Stay away from this place - they are scammers.I don t trust any of the good reviews here - I had a horrible experience at this shop. My fianc brought my Nissan here. My dad is mechanic so I knew exactly what was wrong with my car. I told them exactly what needed to be done. After dropping off my car, they call me to confirming what I already told them and that the charge is $260 just for that diagnosis. I was shocked, they charged me $260 to confirm an issue I already explained to them about. I went to pick up my car right away where I m told it would cost an additional $400 to get the o rings replaced around compressor. I called another mechanic to make sure I wasn t getting ripped off, he asked them to explain the cost and he was shocked. So I took my car and my business to another mechanic where they got it fixed for $140. My car is working smoothly and I m happy that I found another mechanic. These people are unprofessional and extremely dishonest - they will try to rip you off. Also, they don t know how to take responsibility for their actions - they will call reviews fake to preserve their ego. Shame!

I took my 2001 Chevy Corvette to them to have a common problem with that car addressed. The problem causes the car to die at traffic lights and intersections, a serious safety problem. I had already done some research and found out the problem was likely electrical in nature, causing the car to spit out codes suggesting I replace the column lock. I shared all of this information with them...They said that I was wrong; their mechanic was sure it's the column lock. They insisted replacing it should fix my problem, and fix all of the codes I was getting. I reluctantly agreed despite everything I read online to the contrary. The repair required purchasing a new lock and having a locksmith key it.Hundreds of dollars later, nothing has been fixed. The middle-aged mechanic even yelled at me, several times. I guess it was my fault that he didn't fix my car. How could he expect me to be happy with no result? After being berated, talked-down to, and scolded by the mechanic, the very nice office manager gave a small break on labor. Still, I cannot recommend anyone take a car with a safety or electrical issue here. Her suggestion, after I paid for unnecessary work, was "Maybe take it to a Chevy dealer. They have specialized equipment we don't have. They can see stuff we can't." It would have been nice to know that a few hundred dollars earlier.

Great shop, one of the challenges in working with an auto shop is finding a place that actually knows what they are doing and then will give you feedback on what should be done what could be done and when you shouldn t spend the money. The honesty and knowledge they bring is fantastic!Services: Electrical repair, General repairs & maintenanceServices: Electrical repair, General repairs & maintenance

Do yourself a favor, take your money and go elsewhere. I should have read some of the reviews before bringing my car here. They charged me a large sum of amount and never fixed the issue. I found out while I was on the road and called them to let them know they never fixed the issue. They pretty much told me to go kick rocks and refused to fix anything. Horrible business practice

My Honda pilot blew a power steering line and this shop got me in next day and out within hours. Ed was incredibly kind, courteous and helpful in assisting me. Not only was the service friendly and helpful, but the prices were highly competitive. Most other shops wouldn't bother giving me an estimate to know what to expect, but that wasn't the case here. I really appreciated that as times are tough, and knowing a ball park is super helpful. The shop was super clean, and I mean immaculate compared to others around town, which was super nice. Overall I was highly impressed and am satisfied with the service done to my Pilot. If you have any issues, take your vehicle here and Ed will take excellent care of you. Steve's Auto has won over my business for all of my future automotive needs!

Staff was very friendly when my car got vandalized and I needed to bring it in. My insurance was a bit difficult but they talked to them directly and sorted things out and made my life so much easier. Stephanie was incredibly helpful and made a not-so-fun experience (getting my car broken into) a laughable journey. Will be coming back to them in the future!

I recently had a run in with a scam garage that didn't fix my cv axel and it was still in subpar condition, thankfully this place was able to get me in and fix the last garages errors. They kept me informed every step of the way if they found something new or another issue worth noting and were completely transparent about everything. The work was done in a day and my car is no longer making awful noises. This is the place to go if you need it done and need it done right.Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance

I knew I needed new brakes and Steve's Automotive is very close to where I work. I saw all the great reviews and just went for it. I should say that I've had a number of questionable experiences with garages in the past that I only really caught because I'm reasonably experienced driving mostly old cars. They did recommend some work that I already suspected might be necessary and I'm happy they confirmed that. Even so, they were far from pushy about it Everything I experienced at Steve's was completely above board and I'm so grateful they are nearby to help my 6 year old Mazda ease into it's old age. I recommend them wholeheartedly to everyone.

I have nothing but good things to say. They are timely, honest and easy to communicate with.

I was very disappointed in the way that the owner (or perhaps his son?) communicated with me about my repairs. I dropped my car off at 7:30 am and told the owner's son that there was a whistling noise near the alternator. I realize this may have been caused by a number of things - serpentine belt, pulley, etc. The first question I was asked was whether I was unhappy...HUH? I called mid-morning to check if the car had been looked at and again, very passive-aggressive communication and clearly annoyed that I called to check. I felt intimidated and told him I'd come and pick my car up after work. He was annoyed and said they still didn't know what the problem was. By 3 PM, I picked up my car and I was charged $66.30 including an "environ" charge for $6.50, a "supplies" charge and a labor charge. They didn't have a clue what was wrong with my car after 8 hours. Sorry, not sorry. I'll never go back.

Stay away!Pros:-NoneCons:-They don't tell you the approximate charges for service(s) before hand.-Prices for minute/simple service are EXTREMELY high. Dealership service prices are cheaper/more reasonable than this shop.-Labor fee grossly and unreasonable high to check out vehicle.-Expertise is limited.Would never recommend.Wate of time and money only to still need to take my vehicle to a shop that has the expertise to fix my car.

Good place to go to with car troubles. I thought I had a bad fuel pump, was expecting to pay around $500 to have new fuel pump installed (pump is inside gas tank). After towing my vehicle to Steve's Automotive my car started right up. I tried for 3 days-it would not start. There was water in the gas tank. I had added 5 gallons of premium gas to help diluted the water water and it still wouldn't start. So, had it towed to Steve's. After it started right up at there place they did a scan and found nothing wrong, and didn't charge me anything. . Other shops would have charged $125 for the scan and probably put in a new fuel pump. These are honest folks, and I'm going back, for sure, for all my future needs!5 stars to Steve's Automotive.

I m so fortunate to have met Stephanie and Bob tonight, it was certainly a serendipitous experience and most definitely a divine appointment. Your kindness and support are truly appreciated, I would and will recommend this place place simply based on the fact that you two are both homegrown here in Portland, the dynamics you possess as a family and as an operating business are gifts through and through!Wishing you the best in 2023 and beyond! A million thank you s, until we meet again!Ti auguro il meglio nel 2023 e oltre! Un milione di grazie, finch non ci incontreremo di nuovo!Ciao per ora

I m on my third car that I ve entrusted to Steve s for care. And I keep cars for a LONG time! I m the daughter of a mechanic, so I m really picky about who works on my autos. Steve s does things the way businesses should run: trustworthy, communicative, experts in their field, timely, excellent pricing & value, proactive and friendly. When I say proactive, I mean that they are great about letting you know what needs to be done that you may not have foreseen, accurate with their estimates, and do not try to sell you anything you don t need. I feel taken care of here just like I used to years ago when my dad worked on my car.

My car made an awful noise as I was on my way to work in the Pearl District. I called and Ed was able to get me in right away to check it out. Turns out that it was just a piece of the shield underneath the engine that had come loose and was dragging on the ground. They charged me a fair price for the diagnostic, quick repair, and I asked for an oil change while they were at it. It was probably one of the best experiences I've had at an auto shop and I will definitely recommend them.

Thank you so much to Steve s. I was on a long road trip , when my check engine light came on. They were able to fit me in right away and make sure I was not stranded for the weekend. I appreciate the good care, honesty, and patience. The employee we talked with made sure we understood our vehicle s issues and patiently explained all answers to our questions.

Steve's Automotive is a first-rate business! It takes a lot for me to trust an automotive repair shop, as I am an engineer and usually do most of the work on my own vehicles. I had a problem with my diesel truck and multiple shops either didnt feel comfortable with working on it or gave outrageous estimates. Steve's Automotive estimated a very reasonable price, did the work right on time and lower than the estimate, and did first rate work....and earned a loyal customer! I brought my car in recently and they were awesome as usual! They charge reasonable rates, turn cars quickly, dont try to upcharge, treat customers well, and are very responsive and flexible. It's easy to understand why they have been in business 50 years! Highly recommended!

I have been a customer of Steve's for almost 2 years now and always had good/reasonable service. Recently I convinced my husband (who uses another mechanic) to bring his car in for service after his mechanic couldn't take a look at the issue for a few days. Steve's broke a piece while trying to fix the problem which was no biggie we just wanted them to replace the piece they had broken. When my husband (who is the kindest most mild mannered man in the world!!) was explaining what happened Bob interrupted him several times to state that they couldn't have broken the piece because what he was describing wasn't how the issue we had would have been solved. I was taken aback because he has NEVER spoken to me this way and has always been very kind. Then when my husband stated that he didn't know about the repair all he knew was this piece wasn't broken before and its in the same location as the repair Bob again interrupted and said "Sir I don't want to fight with you" which shocked me because NOTHING coming out of my husbands mouth was in an aggressive tone at all. I found Bob to be very hostile and unkind to my husband. Now back to me, I spent almost $1,200 on brake repair, a 90,000 mile checkup and an oil change for my BMW and only 1,000 miles later got an "oil at minimum level" notification. I brought it to Steve's to top it off since they did the most recent oil change even though my husband and I vowed to not go there again after the last time! But I didn't want to pay anyone else to do it. Upon arriving Ed told me that he would not top it off for free because my car was probably using the oil (I have had this car for over 3 years and never had this issue before). Then he told me that they didn't even have my oil in stock that it was a special order. I questioned him because I have MANY times over the years dropped my car off unannounced and walked to the gym (24 in the pearl is around the corner) and come back to get it. They can usually always fit you in for an oil change on Saturday morning. He proceeded to tell me that they always have some type of synthetic oil in stock and maybe they used a different kind on those days, no one ever alerted me to that fact... Anyway, they replaced the piece for my husbands car and I took my car to Jiffy Lube on 13325 SW Canyon Rd. in Beaverton who topped it off for FREE even though I'm not even a customer there, shout out to them! After looking through the receipt, we noticed that the incorrect oil was used the last time I went to Steve's. After the poor service and two experiences of unwillingness to help with simple issues caused by previous service mistakes, we've decided that we won't return to Steve's.

We are from out of town. Brought our car in because it had the check engine light come on and was running rough. They looked at it the same day and had it all fixed up for us by the next morning. Great and friendly service and the price was great! Thanks again!

Without a doubt, this is (very respectfully to all other mechanic shops in Houston) one of the best if not the best mechanic shop in the city. I drive nearly 50 miles to get my vehicles serviced at Steve's automotive. Work is excellent and pricing is good as well. From German cars to Japanese - they can do it all.

Love Steve's. We take our Audi and our Subaru Forester nowhere else. They do a good job, never overcharge and don't do work you don't need. Highly recommended. Oops! I was trying to review the Steve's on Richmond & S.Rice in Houston, TX. Not sure what went wrong]

I had them give my 15 year old Subaru a bumper to bumper check. I was very impressed with all the information they gave me, and how reasonable the cost was. Bob was so pleasant and took the time to really explain everything to me, and give me great advice. I'll definitely be back!

Steve's Automotive is my go-to whenever my car (a 2006 Suzuki SX4) has issues. They're reliable, reasonable, and they do good work. When you find a mechanic you like and trust, that's one less thing in life you have to worry about!
