Unfortunately, we had a snake-like experience here recently. We brought our Honda Pilot in for new breaks. Shortly after they started working on it, we were told that the cost would be double their original quote for more work. After agreeing, we arrived at the counter to pay and were warned that the timing belt would need to be changed soon - another $1000+ fix. This wasn't an issue with the car before, and we started the car to hear a new sound under the hood coming from the timing belt. We told them about the sound immediately, and they said it was there when we brought it in, which isn't true. Now, they won't look at it without a guarantee of paying for the replacement service.. No apologies and a blunt tone from them (as if to say we're SOL), with no way to prove anything.. I don't feel good about the experience here, and will not return as a customer.

If you re looking for a trustworthy auto shop, you ve found it in Specialty Auto Care.I ve brought my Toyota and Honda here for years and value so much the trust I ve built with Ron and his team. They re genuine and honest about the services needed and the services that could wait till your next paycheck. They go the extra mile for you (pun absolutely intended) when they run into challenges (like taking your car to another shop to fix the one thing they couldn t at their own shop). I m a diehard fan of Ron and the team, and I m sure you will be too.

These guys repaired my Toyota 4runner with a 22R motor, offenhauser intake, RV can, and Weber carb. I bought the 4runner and it had issues with the carburetor, at the time I did not know much about carburetor motors. This all changed when I stepped into their doors.They helped me get it running like a top, and even would give me advice after taking it home. their knowledge and expertise helped my vehicle run like it was new. I couldn t recommend their service more for any Toyota enthusiasts with 22r motors. Any Toyota for the matter!Services: Carburetor cleaning, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair

I take my 2016 Toyota Prius here for service and always receive top notch, honest work. I never feel like Ron and his team are over charging me or trying to up sell me additional work. Price is excellent for the care they take in each car service. Before taking my car to Specialty Auto, I was purely a dealership customer until I realized how dishonest they were when working on my car. It's honestly the best, and you know that is true as all my friends and family take their vehicles here now! You won't regret it!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Wheel alignment, Oil change

Was recommended this mechanic from a friend who also took their 2000's era Subaru here. I've had my 2001 Subaru Outback serviced here several times now for some general maintenance, as well as electrical, steering, and brake service. They are always super friendly on the phone to schedule or discuss findings/recommendations, thrifty in finding the appropriate parts quickly, and overall straight-shooters. Ron and his team are hands down the best in town. He has been servicing my Honda Pilot for years, as well as my entire family's fleet as weel as most of my friend's cars. A true, honest mechanic is getting harder and harder to find- which is why I stick with Specialty Auto. Great care, very practical, understands your needs and gives honest advice. I've gone to Ron at Specialty Auto a handful of times over the last two years and let me tell ya, there isn't a more honest and thoughtful guy to work with. From oil changes, to spark plugs and also some CAT errors, he's been completely transparent and a pleasure to work with. Having to make costly repairs is never fun for any automobile owner, but I can rest easy knowing my truck in Ron's hands. I have a Nissan and have been going to Specialty Auto since I got it 3 years ago. I bought it used, so I knew there would be some issues. John made sure to spend more time fixing a part if it meant not having to buy an expensive replacement. Specialty Auto also has made sure to buy quality replacement parts, giving a warranty for them. I only had an issue with one part, and they honored the warranty they gave, not charging me for the labor or new part. I trust them immensely.

I had a good experience with Ron. Prices were competitive. He seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I got timing belt, power steering pump, plugs and misc seals and my 08 Acura runs great. I will be back for AC maintenance in the spring.

I cannot say enough good things about Specialty Auto. I took my older Nissan pickup truck to them for 6 years, and they did several pre-purchase inspections for me in the last few months as I was in the processing of buying a used Prius and selling my truck. They are thorough, friendly, helpful, professional, honest, and communicative. I've been taking my Toyota Tacoma to Ron for a few years now. He is so honest and reasonably priced. I never get that sinking feeling when I get his bill, I'm always relieved. Seriously. My truck never needs much, it's a great one, but I'm glad I've got a reliable mechanic I can depend on for quality care. Right now, I'm looking for a used car and Ron has let me ask him questions about what to look for. Plus, for a very reasonable fee, he'll look at the car I'm interested in and let me know what kind of condition it's in.

I've been to this place a couple of times with our old truck. I have been consistently amazed at their honesty. Most of the time they have just told me I needed a belt tightened or something really simple. They never tried to up sell me anything. I truly believe these guys are good people and just want to do only what the car needs. When our truck did need more than $50 in repair they called to tell me my options prior to doing any work. They are fantastic.I have always been really skeptical of mechanics but these guys have earned my trust.

Ron always offers fair pricing, fantastic car advice, and never tries to upsell you. Just returned from my first visit to get my 11 Outback serviced (oil and both differentials), and am very happy with the service and price. They even beat the price of another competitively priced shop I ve used. Happy to have found an honest and competent local mechanic so quickly after searching in my new neighborhood.

My 2002 Subaru Outback broke down on the freeway. I took it to Specialty Auto because I have heard good things about them through my work. They went in and replaced all the necessary parts and put it all back together quickly for me, knowing that I was paying for my rental car. My car is running great. The shops communication was good, they kept me informed about what they were doing and how much it would cost, with no surprises. The people there are friendly, and knowledgeable. I recommend them highly to anyone in need of repairs.

Then had my car repaired in acceptable time and did a good job as well. The only thing I didn't like was the cost of the repair but when I asked for a veterans discount they did give me a 10% discount which helped me out a lot. Therefore I give Specialty Auto a 5-Star rating. They did tell me that they were no longer going to be working on Volkswagen's. So even though the tow truck driver recommended this place and they did repair my VW don't take your car there if it's a VW.

I have been taking my cars to this shop for over 15 years. I currently take my scion to Specialty Toyota. He is fantastic. He takes great care of my car without huge expense. I totally trust him and would recommend him to anyone!

Mark Davis is the best mechanic in Portland! He is honest, does not overcharge, is courteous, timely and gets back to you when you leave a message. His small staff are equally as good. It is nice to go to a small business where you and your car are taken care of and remembered.

Very professional and considerate. I have taken my 84 Vanagon to Specialty twice and been very pleased with the work and way also that this shop does business. Both times Mike has called me as he is working to explain the options and costs involved. He does great work and is a pleasure to do business with. I've tried a couple other shops in town and have been disappointed with them running up the bill - It's such a relief to have been referred to this shop and have a mechanic I trust.As for alternator post in this list - I think what you were probably quoted was the price for a *new* alternator versus a rebuilt. Mike just put a rebuilt alternator in my van and the cost was very reasonable.

Had a really good experience dealing with Mark at Specialty Auto. Extremely insightful, knowledgable, AND informative. Estimates were accurate and fair, labor rates are competitive, they have a secure lot and good mechanics. Don't know what else to say

I brought in my 1985 vanagon that had recently spent A MONTH in another shop without a diagnosis to the problem I was having. When I brought it in to Mark he did so much trouble shooting for me while trying to track down the issue the van was having. He called me daily with updates and had it fixed in less than a week and for a really reasonable price. I wont be taking my VW to anyone else from now on!

Took the time to speak with me over the phone about what was likely going on with my car. The tech I spoke with instantly knew what the issue was, while everyone else wanted me to bring it in (and pay a diagnostic fee) before giving me any of their time. Service took a couple hours instead of days, priced exactly as estimated. Single-handedly un-ruined my week.
