I have generally had good experiences at this service center, but today was not one of those days. I brought my car in for a routine service/oil change covered by a previously purchased Toyota care plan. I had an appointment at 10:30am that I had scheduled a week in advance. Upon arrival, I was encouraged to add $900 worth of additional services. I reluctantly agreed to $300 of those services (engine and inverter coolant changes). I was given an estimated wait time of three hours and told my car would be ready at ~1:30pm - a longer wait than I had planned on, but manageable. Three hours turned into nearly six, and my car wasn't ready until 4:00pm.I understand things happen; some days businesses are understaffed, or exceptionally and unexpectedly busy. However, transparency and communication are paramount. Giving your customers accurate wait times and expectations is important, as is proactively providing them with updates when/if their wait time is going to be significantly longer than originally stated. Unfortunately, in this situation, no one reached out to me. I waited until 2:30pm, then requested a status update. I received an apology, and it took another hour for my car to be ready.I was left with a lot of frustration and many questions. Why did I bother to schedule an appointment? Clearly, the crew wasn't ready to work on my vehicle at 10:30am. I could have arrived 2-3 hours later instead of wasting my entire day in Ron Tonkin's lobby. Why wasn't there better communication about the significant delay? 30 minutes is one thing, 3 hours is another. How long was it going to take me to drive home, given that it was now rush hour? The answer, as it turns out, was 45 minutes.Again...I understand that things happen. I was given a $25 discount for my patience, but that doesn't give me my time back. In the future, please don't schedule your customers for services that you cannot complete in a timely manner. If a service is going to take 6 hours to complete, be upfront about the wait time (FWIW, had I been told it would take 6 hours, I would have declined the service and opted to schedule for another day). Once again, transparency and communication are key. I work in customer service, and the experience that I had today sadly makes me want to decline any additional service recommendations in the future.

Been here a few times, and today is my last. Customer service is pretty good. But when it comes to pricing (parts and labor) it s ridiculous. $350 for 4 spark plugs

A few weeks ago, some lights came on in my car, so I decided to take it in for service. Usually I go to Broadway Toyota for service, but this time I gave Ron Tonkin a try. Aaron, the service coordinator, was friendly and I liked him, but I got some bad news about the car - there was an issue somewhere in my solenoid circuit. The tech and service coordinator told me that the solenoid circuit is tucked away in a difficult-to-access part of the transmission. To service it, they d have to open up the whole transmission, which would cost a minimum of around 8k. I was better off replacing the transmission, to the tune of well, about 8k. I drive an old car (a 2008 Rav4), worth less than the that, so I was in a bind. The trade in value, another sales associate told me, would be $1000 max - just the scrap value for parts. I was resigned to the idea of getting what little I could in trade and buying a new car - but first I thought I d get a second opinion. And boy what a second opinion it was!!! My friend, a mechanic, was able to get ahold of the Toyota service manual and show me exactly where the solenoid belt is at the *bottom* of the transmission, accessible by removing a single pan! I took my car to his garage and he opened it up in no time. Replacing the solenoid and the circuit wires in question, he told me, should cost no more than about $600-$1000 - that s including a mechanic s markup. His read on the situation was that the Ron Tonkin team probably just didn t want to take on the risk of working on my old car, and quoted me a price they knew would get me out of their garage. Which - I get it, I get why they wouldn t want to work on an old car but it just seems like there could have been a better solution here. As it was, I feel like I was mislead intentionally. Which is to say - lied to. And as a result I ended up spending the weeks between my first and second opinion stressing about the cost of a new car and spending stupid money on a rental while I tried to figure out what to do cause I was under the impression mine wasn t safe to operate. None of that needed to happen! So - one star, sorry guys.

This was my first poor experience with the East Portland Ron Tonkin Service Dept. but I probably won't be back anytime soon.I waited an hour before I saw that my vehicle had even been taken back. I had an appointment. Later I was asked by the person at the service counter how my wait time had been. When I expressed that my vehicle had sat there in front of them for an hour before even going back. I asked about appointments vs "walk in", the response is that these are not separated. It just allows them to be aware of what is scheduled. This honestly does not make much sense to me & seems that there is no advantage to scheduling an appointment.

I took my vehicle in for service as I had one last toyota care service still. Service advisor Kyle was misleading about services I didn't need and recommended some other services, some I accepted but upon arriving to the dealer I was given a bill of $900 that was stated to be $360 which is why I agreed to do it in the first place. In addition to the prepaid oil change, I approved a coolant exchange for $180 and replacing a drive belt for $185 which was the cost stated. Upon arriving to the dealer I was billed and told the timing belt was replaced on a vehicle that has a timing chain. So I'm very very skeptical that I was even charged for the correct service since it takes more labor to replace a timing belt vs serpentine belt which is what I approved for. Very disappointed with my recent visit.

One of my employees had accidentally dropped a string of Christmas lights onto the roof of a customer's car and caused a small dent. I told the customer we would take care of the damage. Customer took the car in to be repaired just prior to me leaving town for a vacation. I spoke with Shannon in the service department and was quoted around $1100 for repairs. I remember thinking that's not so bad and below the deductible for my liability insurance, so I gave them the go ahead. I was concerned that if I was unreachable while out of town, they would hold up delivery of car to customer. They said not to worry about it, we could settle up when I returned and the customer would not have to wait. Customer called me today to say the car has been sitting there for a week waiting on me to pay the bill. To top things off when I called to make payment, the bill was now triple the original quote because they found another "small dent". Now it is substantially more than my deductible, but my customer wants his car back. I'm backed into a corner to pay this now rather than running it through my insurance. I feel lied to and manipulated and my only recourse is to vent here on Google. Being in business for mysel, I do know that you reap what you sow. So I guess it will all work out in the end.

I brought my RAV4 into Ron Tonkin Toyota for its 20k mile checkup. The service team suggested I change the wipers and AC air filter. I opted to save some money and do it myself. When I got the car back, the AC was making a terrible noise and I immediately shut it off. It was working perfectly up until the time of my maintenance appointment. When I called Ron Tonkin Toyota s Service Department and politely explained the situation, the person on the phone immediately adopted defensive language. When I asked if I d need to pay more for them to look at things, she said I would if they couldn t determine fault. So, they created the problem, are now acting as arbiter, and have a clear conflict of interest. Feels an awful lot like a holdup: like, spend extra money or else we ll throw a gremlin under the hood and you ll have to take MORE time off work and spend even MORE money! Gotcha! Crossing my fingers for a fair outcome but I m not hopeful given the service staffer s tone. My advice: skip these guys. And if you must go here, then make a video of your car s condition before taking it RT Toyota. I really wish I did. Pretty slick little operation!

I brought my Toyota Tacoma in for an oil change and was directed to getting a timing belt and water pump replacement for 1600 dollars. I went ahead and had them do the service because I had a road trip planned from Portland to Southern California the following day from when the service was finished. I ended up breaking down on the side of the freeway in Walnut Creek, CA with a blown engine due to an improperly attached radiator hose.I had my truck towed to the nearest Toyota service, the team gave me a detailed report back saying that this was a direct result of a mistake made by the Ron Tonkin Toyota service department. After two days staying in Walnut Creek, Ron Tonkin service reluctantly agreed that it was their fault and that they would replace the motor in my truck with a used one. This process took an entire month which affected my work, and devalued my vehicle with a higher mileage engine replacement. A major reason why I purchased my Tacoma in the first place is that I knew a detailed service history, and that the engine was well cared for. With the higher mileage used engine that they had put into my car, I have none of that information. While I appreciate the fact that Ron Tonkin Toyota paid for a replacement motor and a rental car for me, I would like a refund for the original service. After this inconvenience and devaluation of my Tacoma, I expect to get a refund for the original 1600 dollar service. Upon arrival back into Portland, I spoke with various levels of management at Ron Tonkin until I made it to the GM, Jason Jellison. Jason was disrespectful to my girlfriend and I and insisted that we were not entitled to a refund for the major mistake that they made on my car. He deflected every valid reasoning we gave to get a refund by saying that "their job was to make the car whole." Jason and management; if a service that someone pays for is done improperly to the point of needing an entirely new engine the next day, that person deserves a refund. If there is anyone above the GM of Ron Tonkin Toyota, please respond. I have tried seeing if there is a corporate office to no avail. This review stays up until I get a refund. Good. They offered me a kit for the oil lines i wanted at a much better deal than the other 2 toyota stealerships didn't offer me. It's a line on the 2008 Sienna that fails and your engine runs out of oil quicker than the oil light goes on- end result is destroyed engine. Thanks Tonkin Toyota parts.

Screw this place. Every time I go they try to convince me to buy unnecessary services and try to convince me my truck has a rodent living under the hood so they can sell me an engine bay wash. Not going back.
