John and the shop did an absolutely stellar job on an engine swap for my '06 Subaru. Incredible transparency about the work that needs to be done and the pricing. Look forward to bringing it in again and can't recommend enough!

Simply the best of the best. I ve been taking my 1997 Toyota Tacoma to John for years. He s friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. Always a quick turnaround, reasonably priced, a true gem. The only mechanic I trust with my truck. Thank you for keeping my baby up and running!

They have done great work taking care of my Toyota Tacoma over the last couple years. Always friendly and have a quick turn around. When I knew my brakes needed work they did a great job explaining the logic, cost breakdown and timeline of the services they recommended. I cross checked their recommendations with my previous mechanic from another city, and was able to confirm that it was a wise course of action. They were easy to communicate with and made quick work of it. Everything's been running perfectly since!Also like the vibes of the shop, it s cool in there.

I ve really enjoyed working with this garage. Their prices are normal- and their staff is always friendly. I never feel like I m getting ripped off; they just seem honest. Would absolutely recommend.

I got an estimate via email for getting timing belt replaced. The job was completed on time. These folks did an excellent job at a fair price and I am very happy with their service!

I love these guys! I went in for an oil change, knowing I had waited too long since I was distracted by my new baby. And I came out only needing an oil change and some fluids topped off. They said my filters looked good. But I love NOT being told that I need hundreds of dollars of extra stuff, which is what always happened at the dealership and other repair shops too. It makes me happy I have a reliable car, and happy I've found these guys. They're also always pleasant to deal with and talk with!

I've brought my car in multiple times now. They easily get me in everytime, fast reliable service, and the prices are fair. John is great at explaining everything each time. Would highly recommend to others.

Excellent Shop!! I usually do alot of things myself, lol or at least attempt to. I was in a pinch. Couldn't get this one bolt removed because of how rusted and torqued it was. Called them up, they were able to get me in the same day, although I couldn't make it that day. But when I was able to bring my car in they got me in and gave me a call a few hours later stating she was ready to be picked up!!! Fair Pricing and Fast service. I love that. And they seem very honest. I will be using them again!!!

My daughter moved to Portland a few years ago, so I could not work on her car when needed. Found Japanese Auto Repair and John and crew have been the shop I can recommend. I've met John while visiting Portland, and appreciate his shop servicing my daughters car and seeing they have the experience and knowledge to do so.

I cannot recommend this shop enough! We have a 22 year old sequoia, and it runs like a top thanks to John and all the techs there. They always get me in right away, and go the extra mile for everything. Like many people in Portland, we had both catalytic converters stolen, a hole in the gas tank and a broken window all fixed! Today we have a window not going up, and they re going to see me right away to get it up, and diagnosed so we can at least not worry about the rain. Absolutely the best place for your car!

I took my 2008 Toyota Camry in to Japanese repair for an oil change. They alerted me to the deteriorated suspension in my car. I have been happy with previous maintenance they've completed on my car and so was eager to have them take care of my suspension. I'll be seeing them next week for this repair as well as replacing my brakes.

They scheduled me by email super easily, made sure my car (2008 Honda Element) was back within the 2 hours as promised, and did a quick check on a few things wrong with an action plan. Honest and friendly, highly recommend and will be back!

Had my work truck in to get the timing redone- they caught a potential radiator issue and dropped a new one in while they had it apart. $690 for the timing job (I supplied the parts- minus one seal), $375 for the radiator (and coolant). Out the door for $1065. They had it back to me in two days. I m a happy camper, truck purrs again- as opposed to the horrible squeaky whistle of the shot idler pulley.

These guys have wrenched on my Toyota SUV a couple of times now. The most recent round was front and rear brakes complete and a brake fluid change. They use Akebono ceramic pads, a personal favorite of mine. I was pleased to find they'd adjusted the E-brake which should be a part of the procedure but can get forgotten when someone is in a hurry. It's always calm and low pressure when I'm dropping off and discussing the repairs and the next steps. Thanks for great service from someone in the industry!

Uber-skilled brothers John and Francis run a very tight and efficient shop and have been extremely generous over the last couple of years helping me out in a pinch. My '09 Subaru Outback was in pretty bad shape a little over a year ago. I didn't get the service I expected from another highly rated shop not far from here. I gave John a call, as recommended by my daughter who had high praise for Japanese Auto and within 36 hours, I had a new and improved motor and a few other essential fixes. I couldn't be happier with my car's performance. I've never had an issue that John or Francis couldn't figure out in a flash and for extremely fair prices. In my humble opinion, these guys are mechanical wizards and a real class act!

Got in touch with John over email, and he quickly replied and got me set up with an appointment to get my rear differential replaced. I was amazed when I took it in and had it back by the end of the day. Great work! I will definitely be coming back!

Best service I ve ever had. These guys did a great job on my 4Runner with a fair price on a VERY tight turnaround when I had some issues during a long road trip. I d recommend them in a heartbeat.

Excellent customer and repair service. My Honda Accord was leaking oil for about 7 years. John at Japanese Auto Repair was the only auto repair shop willing to take a dive at changing the motor out and restore my car to better than new. Did everything he said he would at a reasonable price - better and cheaper than buying another car. John over delivered got my car done in under 3 days. Pretty amazing considering all the work that went into total engine repair and more. Honest and trustworthy - will definitely recommend. Just wish I had found this outfit way sooner. 10 Stars!

I came here for my last oil change, and a few months later I had to get towed from the side of the freeway because of the poor work they did. Apparently after the oil change, they replaced my my splash guard incorrectly. Several fasteners were either not replaced at all or fell off due to their error, and the splash guard came loose and started dragging on the ground while I was driving on the freeway. They also charged me a ridiculous amount for the terrible service which caused this.

John always remembers me as a regular customer and always has a great attitude and a smile on his face. He has always given me great service at a very fair rate. I never feel like he's trying to take advantage of anyone. I always come back to Japanese auto repair because they put customer care first, never tried to rope me into unnecessary service and clearly has a business built on customer trust. Highly recommend as your regular automotive service provider.

John was very easy to work with and made a potentially stressful repair pain free. I contacted several shops regarding the issue with my truck and he was the only one who was familiar with the issue and that gave me piece of mind going into a major repair. Thank you again John I will be returning here for all of my future repairs.

I brought my Honda Accord in for brake and transmission fluid service, and the staff were quick and efficient. I paid at or below what I was quoted at two other auto shops. I was also having trouble with doing a DIY replacement of my head unit, and the staff took the time to walk me through how to identify the part and find a vendor. I will absolutely use Japanese Auto Repair in the future, and would recommend them for trustworthy, kind service.

My Sequoia and Wrx are always in good hands here for the past 8 years. Everyone, especially John are always kind and accommodating. They are busy at times but they do the best they can to provide perfect service. They are always upfront, honest and do their best to answer all my questions before repairs are done. I will always choose safety, honesty, quality and peace of mind everytime than a cheap price. A good repair shop is hard to find especially for a girl as as the dealership and most places do not care and upcharge as much as they can. Loyal and happy customer , thank you Japanese Auto Repair.

I have had several things done here on my older Toyota and newer Honda and will go back (some day). They were sweet guys and knew what they were doing. They also had a bit of an admiration for JPN cars that liked. I did get a bit of up sale and they were not as inexpensive as I thought they would be, but they handled some out of the box interior hardware issues for me that not all shops could. If I had to wish something about this shop I would wish they did something that qualified as value added. I don't know what, but something that spoke to 'we made your car better than you expected'. I will be pulling back from them a bit. I'll be back. But as a 'go to place' - I don't think this can be my spot. They gave me some 'funny' charges that were a bit suspect and didn't seem interested in solving a concern. I was looking for a bit more expertise I guess? So as of right now I can not recommend them.

Great experience at this shop. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and accommodating; they were able to take my car in immediately and fixed it up quick at a fair price. This will be my go to place for maintenance from now on.

I have a 2011 Subaru Impreza that was at about 150k miles and had a head gasket leak. The price they quoted me was super reasonable and they were very attentive to detail. Even cleaned my car! They showed me the parts after the repair and were very thorough in their explanations. Highly recommend
