I've been with Hookset for over 15 years now. They are as good as it gets. I try to keep my vehicles in top condition since I do a lot in the back country and don't want to get stranded (which hasn't happened yet).I know they have completely redone 3 vehicles, at around the 70,000 to 100,000 mile mark on each. I like to get at least 150,000 out of my cars, and have some that I plan to keep for at least 250,000 miles.Additionally, they've helped with the basic maintenance items many times (whenever I don't do that myself). If it's a maintenance part on a car, such as brakes, hoses, gaskets, alignment, cv boots, tie rods, u joints, suspension / shocks / struts, tires, timing belt, check engine lights, they can repair and maintain it. I'm confident in their honest service, and that they will do a good job on your vehicle too.

Avoid this garage like the plague. They destroyed my wheel lock key, then said "they just wear out sometimes". I posted pictures of what they did to it. Funny, they got my front wheels off just fine, then it broke. And the lock on my right rear wheel was destroyed. Then, they wouldn't stop with the fear mongering. Telling me I would die, and whomever I hit would die as well. I heard the same spiel given to other customers as well. When I asked them to simply do the work I requested, they refused. The guy said "I won't do a subpar job and let you kill someone".Stay away. Go somewhere reputable.

BEWARE: Predatory scammer! This mechanic is dishonest and aggressive. I brought several trucks to him for pre-sale inspections (paying $150 each time) and he assured me a '99 Dodge RAM2500 was a good buy with "no red flags." He quoted me $3400 to get it in good shape for a long trip I had coming up, with some of those items seeming unnecessary, that I didn't end up requesting (Interior detailing, error codes most likely due to an old battery). The major work needed according to Hookset was the power steering pump and gearbox, and the front knuckle U-joints, which should have come out to around $2000. I bought the truck for $8500 from a used car dealership and brought it to his shop. The first red flag was when Hookset changed their quote for the suspension work after I had brought them the truck, revising it upwards by more than $2000. They charged me $4200 for the work they did. I still figured that sometimes happens with unexpected issues during repairs. When I got the truck back, however, it became clear that something was seriously off. The truck went in without any dash lights or noticeable fluid leaks, and they gave it back to me with the ABS and Brake lights on, the Check Engine light on, and a bad leak in the front. Second red flag. At this point I started feeling suspicious and took the truck to another mechanic for a second opinion. He immediately assured me that it was power steering fluid leaking from the recently replaced power steering components. Trying to get my warranty honored, I brought the truck back to Hookset, where they did another inspection and called me, insisting this leak was motor oil from the vacuum pump (never mentioned as an issue before), and told me they would now need to replace the vacuum pump to fix it (and wanted a bunch more money for that). I told J.C. at Hookset that it seemed the power steering was leaking after having just been replaced, hoping this would be covered by his warranty. He immediately became enraged, telling me that I was accusing him of dishonesty, that I should pick up my truck and take it to the other mechanic, and hanging up the phone. So, I went and picked up my truck and brought it to a third mechanic, Rob's Automotive in Clackamas, who are a larger, very professional shop. I was worried about the fluid leak being misdiagnosed, but when they looked at the truck, they told me that it needed critical suspension work and was unsafe to drive. They quoted me $10,000 for the work it needed just to be safe, confirmed that the fluid leak was indeed coming from the power steering gear box (that Hookset had just installed), and mentioned that Hookset had badly installed suspension brackets. Additionally, and most damningly in my opinion, they assured me that no mechanic could have missed the badly installed lift kit (the source of the critical suspension issues- bolts missing, parts installed wrong, unsafe to drive) in a pre-sale inspection. They recommended I sell the truck as it wasn't worth it.So to sum up:-Hookset did a pre-sale inspection and told me to buy a truck that had $10k worth of critical suspension issues, and failed to identify or mention them-When they did work on the truck, they messed up front brackets, doubled their quote halfway through the work, set off several dash lights without explanation, and installed a faulty part (power steering gearbox) that started leaking-They misidentified the leak as motor oil, and refused to reconsider despite several other mechanics disagreeing with their diagnosis. They also cut off dialog in an aggressive mannerDO NOT GO HERE.Services: Transmission, Steering & suspension repair, Wheel alignment, Oil change

Great repair shop. We recently started going there after switching from another diesel mechanic and we feel that we are treated much more fairly and honestly here. Highly recommended.

Had new front brakes installed on my 1996 Volvo 850, plus some engine work totalling $2400. I returned within 2 weeks per their Brake Warranty policy for inspection to lock-in said warranty, plus do some other work on the car.Everything felt great; car was running smoothly and the new brakes are stopping perfectly, so I'm feeling very good about my second interaction and highest financial interaction with Hookset, to date. Five months later the front brakes start making a metal friction noise, their squeaking, so I call, explain what I'm hearing and then hear her voice telling me that - and I quote, "because I hadn't specifically asked that they check my brakes for the warranty inspection, the warranty was void".I'd been introduced to the husband & wife owners of Hookset as friends of, and good people, by people that I loved and trusted, so I was stunned by this owners response. And how had she had this response so ready to go, like it was locked and loaded, just waiting to roll off her tongue.I've been recovering from a car accident with a brain injury that had happened before I met Hookset, and chose to trust them with the car that saved my life, so it s taken me several months to decide how I was going to handle this situation. My husband and I bought our home here in Parkrose 23 years ago. I lost him to cancer, but I'm not going anywhere. They would have had a customer for life.Jane LeachHas anyone else had a "Far less than Hoped" or "Unsatisfactory" interaction with Hookset that they'd like to include in the complaint I'm filing with the Attorney General for the State of Oregon as part of their Fair Business Practices in Oregon department ?You can DM me at Jane Leach on Nextdoor.

AWent here a couple years ago with a coupon for a/c recharge after which they said i have something internal which is preventing blend door from switching from hot to cold. I waited til next summer to have them fix the issue at which time they ran the same diagnosis and charged me $50 to tell me the same thing that we both knew the previous year. They were going to have to take apart the dash board and figure it out, was going to take some time and wasnt going to be cheap. I aslo had an issue with one of my headlights being out/dim so i asked them to look at that as well . I scheduled a time of which they had it all of friday and saturday (sunday off) and was supposed to pick it up monday so i could go camping tuesday, but they said they needed one more day to put the dash back together. So what choice did i have then to leave my car with them. I rode my bike over to the shop tuesday morning and they had the car ready with and went over with me what the issue was which was a pen somehow lodged in the control heater box. They mechanic handed me the pen joking that i would probably want to keep it since it cost me a grand since thats what they charged me for the labor and time since it took them 3 whole days to fix the issue. Pretty poor form and customer service right there. On top of that, they couldnt quite figure out the headlight issue, saying if they had more time eg: labor hours to look at it they could get it fixed. I had enough of their ineptitude/scam and paid their outrageous bill and took my car home. I noticed on the invoice they charged me $104 for the headlight diagnosis for the issue i already knew about and $15 for the new headlight they put in even though they didnt fix the problem. Found out later from a free diagnosis from green drop that its an exposed wire touching the car frame. Either way, steer clear of these lazy mechanics and their poor business ethics. Dont be a victim like me.UPDATE. Got a response from the business expressing concern about my experience with them but skepticism about what work i got done there and ultimately asking that i remove the post and telling me i have the wrong records even though i posted photos of my invoices. Subtle attempt at bullying me that backfired badly.

I have been going to Hookset for about 10 years and have never felt cheated. They have always been honest with me and show me what the issues are with my vehicles. They have worked on my last 2 vehicles and I plan on taking my future ones to them. They have even helped me choose a new vehicle. They take the time to explain everything that may need immediate work or what to keep an eye on down the road. The owners (JC & Angie) are very friendly and knowledgeable. And all their mechanics follow suit.

This is the best auto experience I have had. Both JC and Ang were super honest and very understanding of my situation. I needed my engine replaced and with all the obstacles my GMC came home better than ever! I'm so thankful for them! Awesome service! Awesome owners! Awesome mechanics!Nobody will ever touch my vehicles except these guys again! If you're needing repairs and want someone to be a straight shooter this is the place to go! Thanks again to HOOKSET!

I have been taking my car to Hookset for 2 or 3 years and have always had fantastic service. Last week, I needed to take my car in for an oil change and a headlight change. They did the work just a couple of hours, and even checked my other lights (there was another one out apparently!) The owner always takes the time to explain what they are doing, why it's needed, and are always helpful and friendly.

We have been going to Hookset for about a year now, and we have always been highly satisfied with the work and customer service. Despite the stress that comes along with paying for repairs, they always reassure us and keep us calm. They are very honest and they always provide personal recommendations on repairs. They do not scare us into thinking we need something done, instead, they teach us about the workings of the car. We have been learning to do some repairs on our own, which they know, and they still give us recommendations on what we can do and what we should come in for. I really respect the fact they do that. They take the time to talk to us and build relationships, which I don t usually see in shops. They care about their customers and they care about keeping them safe. I enjoy the waiting area because it feels like I am at home! They provide yummy coffee and snacks, WiFi, and two lovely pups to interact with. I would definitely recommend this shop to my family and friends.

Y'all this place is amazing! I brought in my Subaru (Ruby, as we call her) and they did a fantastic job. These guys were honest, kind, and super quick! My car had massive damage and they were able to get it back to me within days. I feel so much safer moving across the country after going to this shop. Thanks a bunch JC and the crew, Go Broncos!

Some of the best people I've ever met work here! Their office is cozy with doggies and a beautiful fish take to view while you wait for you oil to be changed or other services. I have been using Hookset for over two years now, so thankful of all the work they've done for the two cars I've owned during my time in Oregon. When my first car took a turn for the worst, they went above and beyond to help me get my next car on the road. The used car I ended up buying needed some work done and they figured that out quickly, got the parts needed, and my Mazda 3 is working wonderfully. Couldn't have asked for a more trustworthy and affordable place! Deff give JC or Angie a call!

I cannot say enough about this company! Not only were they friendly, helpful, and a lot of fun...considering I got "stuck" there nearly all day, but they were honest and truly concerned about the safety of my vehicle. I wound up getting alot more done than I had originally planned...at my request...nothing was shoved down my throat, and got it all done at reasonable prices. This is my mechanic shop for life...SERIOUSLY!!!Oh yeah...and they got me in same day so my trip to Seattle Children's Hospital was guaranteed to be safe and it was, it's like driving a new van all over again. Thanks guys!!!

We took our little old Mazda pick-up here for a once over. They were very thorough. They made us a list of what was wrong with the vehicle, gave us estimates for fixing each item, and helped us prioritize repairs that were safety issues. After we got the truck back, it ran much much better than it had before. The big test was driving it 150 miles to our new home - it made it without a hitch (haha get it, hitch, that's a pun!). These guys are honest, competent, and provide fast friendly service!

I have gotten automotive service at Hookset four times and I confidently trust that they will take care of my car for a reasonable price. The shop has a family feel to it. Staff circulate in and out of the waiting room and shoot the breeze with you while you wait for your car. J.C. remember my name after only having been there a few times. I feel like they value their customers. When a repair turned out to be more complicated that originally intended, they said they would be willing to work with me on a payment plan and even waived the cost for an oil change. Great place!

These guys are awesome. They have the best rates, quality service and great, friendly people. Angie and JC are very honest and never pressure you into doing more than you need. I've had my CV axle changed there, my timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, muffler and more and they can always squeeze me in and get me done and on my way quickly. I do a lot on my car myself, but what I can't do I'll take it to them.

I got a groupon for 4 oil changes, I was hoping to find a place close to me that I trust and start using. Wow was I wrong with this place. They push expensive repairs and take 1.0 hours always for simple oil change. They said $8k recommended services, $4k minimum services, that I shouldn't even drive to the coast without repairs to my car that was only 4 years old. I was incredulous. Took to the auto repair shop across town that my parents have used forever, they did oil change and variety of minor repairs for $180 total. I won't even go back for the remaining x2 oil changes I paid for at Hookset, I don't trust them at all. I will be going across town for honest work from now on, it's just not worth it to get groupon pricing for such dishonest 'repairs needed' pricing that is several grand compared to what honest mechanics will do for a couple hundred, including the oil change... very sad such dishonesty when I was I was trying to find someone more local, but will continue going cross town :(

Highly recommended. This is the third time I've taken my truck to Hookset Automotive. Every time I go, I get great customer service, learn something new about how to maintain my truck, and leave thoroughly satisfied.JC always offers me great advice and great referrals for automotive services his shop doesn't offer. There's good coffee while you wait, and good wifi if you need it. The service usually takes less time than I scheduled. because they're competent mechanics and don't waste my time.

I've been using Hookset as my go-to auto shop for about a year now, and honestly the service just keeps getting better. The prices are fair, the work is good, and the owner and staff are incredibly knowledgeable. They care about their work and their customers, and it shows.

These guys really know their stuff. Honest, well educated, well-trained. They use all their senses to diagnose problems with my vehicles. They give great advice. Sometimes they tell me, as long as we're doing this, if you spend another 200 to do that, it will save you money in the long run, but they don't do that because they need the money. They do that cuz it's a smart thing to do at the time. They look out for me by being honest, and keeping my vehicle safe, reliable, and top performing!

I've been taking the same car to Hookset for just about 10 years. If this were any other kind of business, they'd "just" be amazing for their service and fairness. Considering this is the auto repair business, it's simply phenomenal. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I called yesterday to schedule a simple oil change, got in today as scheduled and out on time as promised. We've been customers for years now and have always received great service. On occasion one of our cars has had to be left for a few days but that's the way it goes sometimes... We had issues with our AC which reoccured the next season and Hookset took care of the problem and made things right.I feel that they always give us good information on what to expect and options when there are some. We'll keep going back!

I am a Fleet Manager for a Telecommunications/solar company in the NW and Hookset Automotive has save our company money many times and prevented other parts from going bad. I value their opinion and trust sending our vehicles to them for repair. I also trust that fact they are very reasonable on their repairs and pricing for parts.

I found Hookset though their super good Groupon deal. I've used them for four oil changes and will definitely continue to go back. The owners are super friendly and are definitely not the type to pressure you into paying for unnecessary services. Five stars all the way!

I took my car here to get an estimate on a clutch and to look it over. They found out the transmission needed replacing. My car was only under warranty for another 6K miles. Catching this when they did saved me thousands of dollars! While they weren't able to complete the work, (do to warranty details) they were extremely helpful and I will always keep them in mind for future repairs and I will definitely recommend them to others as well. These guys are honest. Thank you!

Hookset is great. Everyone who I have worked with there is friendly and knowledgable. I appreciate their commitment to service as well as customer education. It is one of few automotive shops that I have walked in not feeling overwhelmed and taken advantage of. Having recently moved to Portland, I am grateful to have found such a place to take care of my car:)

If you want a Hometown feel with great people and great mechanics this place is for you. I have taken my Impala there several times to have work done. JC and crew get it done and at a reasonable price to boot. I love Hookset Automotive.

I found this place by accident and I m glad I did. The people at Hookset are knowledgeable, friendly and very honest. I called them thinking I needed a driver side front wheel bearing for my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. J.c wanted to make sure that is what was needed, and come to find out it wasn t, I was completely wrong. It wasn t my wheel bearing but my rear differential that was making the noise. If it wasn t for these guys at this shop being honest they could ve gotten away with a good amount of money from me and I still would have had the problem. Thanks again J.c & Angie
