I was just staring at my 73 Jeep Commando thinking how fun of a rig it is to drive. Don and his crew have bought it up to a point that I could drive it to hell and back without worrying.Don s shop is where you go when you want that extra attention paid to your vehicle. The kind of shop where it will get the same attention as you would give if you were doin it yourself. I m a former mechanic who loves fixing up the old stuff, but with no time, which begrudgingly led me to finding Gibson a few years ago and I couldn t be happier. Are they cheap? No. You don t go here for cheap, you go here for top quality work, service, and as they say, attitude. Worth every one of the millions of pennies I ve given em over the last few years. It s really the only shop around that I know, when I turn my keys over to them, my vehicles are coming back better than expected. Thanks Don and Crew.

I have an '82 Toyota Pickup, and there's no other place I would trust to work on it! Always upfront and honest, and willing to answer questions. They've even taken extra time to pop the hood and walk through the work they've done, whenever I want a deeper explanation. Fantastic shop!

These guys are legit! Going to keep my review short, as possible. I have a 2019 car. Had a rodent take residence at the same time my keyless entry quit working. Not a fan of coincidences. Original place I took it to, no rodent damage, just rodent debris. It ll cost you $1600 to fix keyless entry because of defective parts. AND, if that doesn t work, we will keep on trying to figure it out. I chose to not go that route.Waited 6 weeks to get into Gibsons. The reason they are booked out that far is obvious. They are good.I took my car in on the scheduled date, by the end of the day I had my car back, fixed at 1/2 the price the original mechanic wanted to start the fix at.End result, they found, through professional diligence, and their attitude of let us figure out the problem, as opposed to, let s try this and replace this, if that doesn t work, let s replace this and so on. They found the rodent chewed wiring harness causing the keyless entry malfunction.Again, these guys are the real deal!!!Guess that wasn t a short review.

Had some work done to the transfer case of my 2003 Mitsubishi Montero. Gibson was able to get me in relatively quickly and was able to use parts that I had brought with me. Expensive work but got my issue taken care of.

Only because I can't give it zero...On Feb 22th, I called to schedule a time to have my car towed in for a good deal of work to be done. Don estimated about a couple months out. That s normal, and I waited until I heard back. Sometime at the end of March he said to bring it in third week in April. April 25th it was towed in and rolled inside.I had conversations with Don as to the status every month, and was always told he was either waiting for employees to be available, or other cars that had been brought in before mine to be completed, etc., etc., etc. A different excuse every time. After four months I went in to see the status, and it was still sitting there with no work having been done on it at all. An employee even said that Don had refused to have any work done on the car.I had it towed back to my house the next morning. To the owner: If you obviously don t want to work on a car, why have them bring it in anyway? Every visit I made there there had at least 3-4 cars I d seen before not in the shop, and new ones in there on the next visit. Then they rotated out while mine sat.As I figure it, you owe me $500 for both tow services.I ll leave it up to people reading this review to see whether they want to trust this kind of person who advertised: At Gibson Auto & Electric, Inc. we are committed to you, our customer s, satisfaction and we assure you the best possible automotive experience in the Portland area. What a crock of $#!%.I had an entire and very substantial body and paint job done on this car that took 5-6 months. And you can t even plumb and connect a fuel pump in four months? When you also advertise that Attitude is everything! , you do have at least that right.

Unfortunately I would not recommend this company.after months of making plans with Don to have my engine replaced in my car and being told he could start the project the end of November 2023 well I tried to contact him to find out what day I can bring the car in he has decided to ghost my calls.. I have called and left messages with his other mechanics and secretary and he will not return my calls and take my phone call when I call?.... I understand things can change and businesses can fall behind in scheduling however a professional business talks to the customer and tells them what's going on and is straight forward with them and doesn't operate a business in this way... they don't make plans with the customer to do a project and then refuse to talk to them when it comes time to start.. lucky for me I have found another shop that can do what I need done and is ready to start tomorrow don't do business with this

They went out of their way to get my Jeep up and running. Even though not a mobile service they came to my home and repaired it in my driveway - on our one rainy day this summer. I will always go to them from now on and recommend them to others!!Services: Auto battery replacement, Auto engine diagnostic, BatteryServices: Auto battery replacement, Auto engine diagnostic, Battery

Great mechanic. Tells you what's wrong and needs immediate attention and tells you what can wait. Always frugal with is customers money. Stands behind his work!

The owner was moody and unethical. They are expensive and while they came recommended and some of the repairs did hold, used parts were installed and I was charged for new ones. This was confirmed by another mechanic. When I asked to see the receipt for the ordered parts, I was hung up on - a clear indicator of guilt in my book. Watch how this shop moves if you use them. They are slippery and dishonest - I would suggest you ask a body shop or mechanic if they do the same work and skip giving these crooks business.

I was very happy with the professionalism and good attitudes I encountered doing business with this shop. They were thorough, and also very communicative about what was going on, so we could agree on what to prioritize and what can wait. Would absolutely bring my van here againServices: Electrical repair, ElectricalServices: Electrical repair, Electrical

I've been going to Gibson Auto for years and they have always taken very good care of my car. They are thorough and do not like to cut corners. I highly recommend them and I highly trust them and that's especially important as a single female.

I was referred to Gibson Auto by another shop that I had called into since that shop had no availability until the end of the month. Joan and Don are both very kind and the communication during all steps of the process was absolutely stellar. The overall cost of my repair was far less than I had anticipated and done more quickly than initially estimated. I'll definitely be taking my car back to this shop if I ever need work done in the future!Services: Electrical repair, Battery, Oil change

These guys and the lovely receptionist upfront were amazing. My fuel line was cut while a guest at a local hotel in Jantzen beach. Gibson's worked hard to get my van in and taken care of. So I appreciate their efforts.

Don and his wife run the shop. And they have at least one mechanic that works with them. They are all around solidly good people. Which is exactly what I want from a mechanic. They were fast with their work and Don was very communicative and thorough in his explanations and recommendations. I've had the same Ford for 15 years and I've taken it to a lot of different mechanics. I totally trust what Don thinks I should do with my old car and his prices are extremely reasonable. I had researched the issues that I needed repaired on my car and got in various bids and Don was right where I expected him to be perhaps even a little bit cheaper

I took my truck here and they tried replacing a part which didn't fix my issue. When I asked to bring it back in and see if they could find the actual problem they stopped answering my phone calls. It was strange to get ghosted by a business. The minor repairs they did held but I would have preferred to have them fix the underlying problem as well. I took it to a dealership and got the problem addressed but I am still confused why they couldn't finish the job.Service: Electrical

Amazing people! I brought my car in for a few major issues, they know what they are doing, Don is extremely helpful and I can always trust him to get the job done right the first time. I would never take my car anywhere else and encourage you to bring your car to them! Wholesome honest people.

I found these guys by asking for auto electric specialists on Portland cars and coffee Facebook group. I got 5 replies in an hour and these good people got 3 recommendations. The sorted out a hard to find drain on the battery on our 2005 Infiniti coupe, which would flatten in a few days - turns out it was a Bose amp in the trunk that was the cause, they dropped in a refurb unit I bought and away I went - nice people and great service. It's getting hard to find old school craftsmen at really reasonable rates...oh, and they do a lot of very high end classics - Excellent!Service: Electrical repair

I did not have a positive experience on my first trip to Gibson's. I had my car towed in and said that the pre-glow system was not working and that they needed to check my glow plugs. This is a job that MBI had performed a few years ago for $180 ($90 for parts and $90 for less than an hour of labor). My technician wanted to bill me $90 for parts, $70 for diagnosing a problem that I had reported to him, and $220 for two hours of labor. I would shop around before taking your business here.

These guys know their stuff! I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that I bought used with problems nobody could fix over three years. The battery kept draining down to the point that the vehicle wouldn't start, and I would get the "check engine light" coming on inexplicably. I spent several thousand dollars trying to fix my Jeep to no avail including replacing the vehicle's computer, a very expensive repair, and buying several batteries. I was at the end of my rope. Then I was referred to Gibson Auto & Electric by an honest car mechanic who told me that Gibson would be able to really diagnose electrical problems with my Jeep. I took it to Gibson and they found problems which nobody else even dreamed of. The previous owner of the Jeep had installed an aftermarket LoJack system that had a cellular radio which was draining my battery. Gibson then discovered wires that had been completely destroyed between the engine and the firewall causing the "check engine light" to go on. Now my Jeep is finally working and I couldn't be happier. Gibson isn't cheap, but they get it done right the first time. You do indeed get what you pay for with Gibson Auto & Electric.

Great people to have in the neighborhood. I just popped in to get a small job done on a hand truck and they fixed it super quick and had no problem stopping what they were doing to help out a neighbor.
