****MUST READ PRIOR TO YOUR PURCHASE!!!**I purchased a 383 Marine engine from them and I had much the same issues as everyone else unfortunately.MAIN ISSUE: The engine seemed promising but only ran for 1 hour before developing a bottom end knock (Piston slap). I removed the engine with only 2 hours run time. I took it to my local machine shop for teardown analysis. I was correct about the piston slap. #8 cylinder and piston was severely scared.***MUST READ***: during the breakdown the camshaft was found to be incorrect from the description of the build. It was stated a XR270HR camshaft was installed. After contacting COMP CAMS who makes the XR270HR. They looked at the camshaft photos and Grind Numbers and stated this WAS NOT the XR270HR camshaft. Also EPM stated the engine was assembled with ARP hardware. My people disassembling the engine say they are not ARP, and the crank is cast iron not cast steel as stated in the build description.UPDATED PHOTOS: CAM ON LEFT WAS IN THE ENGINE. CAM on the right is the TRUE XR270HR. All you fellow gearheads out there and look and see the dramatic lift and duration differences in the lobe profiles.EDIT: EMP says they will work with me to get the proper internal parts for this engine and also reimburse me the cost of the XR270HR camshaft that I purchased to rebuild this engine. I have not seen the parts yet or the refund, but I will keep posted as to the progress of the solution.

Ordered a marine 383. This engine blew up within 2 months. I sent it back and was told that a new engine would be built and sent out. I called weekly FOR A YEAR AND A HALF and was given a multitude of excuses as to why the engine wasn't sent. It was too cold, it was too hot, the staff was going through training because there were too many defective builds, staff was let go etc. I was then told that the engine had finally shipped. After a week and no engine I called back and was told that the engine had detonated due to timing and wasn't covered but, they were going to run it under another engine warranty and would be done in a week. Still no engine. My wife was finally over it and posted a review in my name. This did not go over well. In the end, I filed a lawsuit. This did not go well. As the owner of the company is not listed and they couldn't deliver the summons so, under Florida law, the suit was dismissed. In the end, I spent almost $6000 and have absolutely nothing to show for it. They kept the engine and wouldn't talk to me. I have documented multiple pages of times and excuses given during my hundreds calls to them. Their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Funny it took them almost 2 years to figure out it was a timing issue after all the lies and false promises. I will continue with my reviews until they change my mind regarding their business practices.

Greg and the Crew built My short block SBC 383. I had things that I wanted like internal balance and flat top pistons. They gave Me exactly what I wanted. I received the Short block about a month ago as It took Me a while to finish it off. I ran into a few snags on waiting specific parts I wanted from speed shops. I just fired it up and it seems perfect...Thank YouL. Ods

Ordered a motor to go into my late fathers car I inherited. They gave me a 30 day lead time after I payed in full up front. 6 months come and go and I tried to stay patient but no longer could and requested a refund. The owner claimed he sent it but after 3 weeks and still no refund I process a dispute with chase. He counters the dispute with the claim "it was picked up day of payment". I reopen the dispute many times with the proof it wasn't sent as I had emails from owner saying he couldn't fulfill the order due to "parts shortages" and he was sending the refund. Every time it was resubmitted it was denied as it was countered. The owner loved to say "visa and master card rules give you insurance so you can get your money back." when I would call him. Just be aware that this is far from the truth. Bank insurance is for when a bank goes bankrupt not for when you are a door mat like myself and give a company like this a ton of money. The bank does not bare responsibility. Just trust the reviews here. I wont name the owner as google may remove the review but his name is easily found. A quick search of google and his other entities and you will find reviews going all the way back to 2012 with the exact same complaint, I don't think that is ironic. I watched my father pass suddenly and just wanted to work on his car. This company really managed to throw salt on that wound.Edit - Owner claims refund was verified. Not true, the only "refund" info I was sent was a hand typed email. There is another customer that complained about this same typed out refund notice on EPM's BBB profile. No proof off refund was ever sent from his end. My bank chase has a specialized team called "electronic money movement" that did a a full investigation into the claimed refund with their findings being that a refund wasn't even initiated to chase let alone sent. They are also the ones that pointed out that the refund notice EPM sent me was simply a typed out email.I never requested a discount due to a shipping delay, that is simply a lie. A 45 day lead time turned into nearly 6 months with still no timeline given when it could be delivered where I then requested a refund. You did not force me into one because I requested a "discount".

8/9/23 I have been waiting since May for my core refund, it's now Aug. I have contacted Greg on several occasions, each time I was told it will be taken care of. I have seen other reviews just like mine. Hopefully they will come through. I don't like leaving negative reviews for any business but they own this one.Update 8/21/23Just talked to Greg, he said they will not refund my core charge because of my review. He then hung up on me. Prove me wrong Greg.Keep my $500. Core charge, I doubt you would honor your warranty program either. Big mistake going with you.

Bought an engine from this company, took 8 months to get the engine. Always had an excuse for the delay but then would say it would be a week or two. After 8 months I finally got the engine, it ran good supposedly has a warranty. I hope I never have to try to get warranty, probably would never get the warranty it would take so long. Then I was charged a core charge and paid for shipping both ways up front. After 10 additional months they finally sent a freight company to get my core. Now we re going back and fourth on trying to get my money refunded on the core charge. Supposedly it will be a week, at least that s what I have been told every week for the last two months. ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY IVE EVER DEALT WITH NEVER USE THIS COMPANY.Service: Motor building

I saw a lot of negative reviews after I made a purchase here and was worried. the motor did take a month to ship, but for the price you cant beat it. I bought a 383 stroker from these guys and its ran great the past two months after swapping it in my 78 k20. you're not going to find a better deal on a new 383 stroker anywhere else, and most places have longer lead times right now. customer service was good, I was following up with them once or twice a week up until shipment being so anxious. Greg helped me to identify the right flywheel and balancer to go with the motor too. Would do business with again.Service: Motor building

Stay away! Stay Away!!! They took 3 months to fix my engine. It only lasted 2 months then needed to be fixed again under warranty. They never paid me the warranty amount. Very hard to deal with and condescending. Taking them to small claims court for over $3500-4000.

Ordered a motor March 3rd with the promise to receive it in 40 Business days. 5 months later and many excuses still no motor.August 4th canceled order. Greg said he understood and will refund my money. Yes I paid in advance the full total for the motor. 7 weeks later and many phone calls still no refund. Now I am going to have to get a lawyer to get my money back. Very bad business.Services: Clutches & transmissions service & repair, Motor building

So, hopefully this review will be timely for someone. Two years ago I was shopping online for a rebuilt SBC, preferably a 383 stroker, and Google found EPM. I liked the specs on the website and couldn't find a comparable engine online for anywhere near the price (even a couple local machine shops quoted me more to rebuild my 350 as a 350). I placed the order and a week or so after the turnaround time had elapsed I reached out and was told I hadn't supplied the color I wanted it painted (wasn't asked on the website when ordering) and that it would be shipped in 2 days. Two days later I got shipping notification, it arrived as scheduled, and the delivery company made a really tight turn into my driveway to drop it off where I needed it. During installation I had to call Greg/EPM a couple times for info/advice and he was as helpful and nice as could be. Oh, I'm pretty sure the website said it would be a 2-bolt main block but I got a 4-bolt.Cut to 18 months and 1,500 miles later and it broke a rocker arm stud. Called Greg and he offered to repair/replace the head if I sent it back (the warranty). I found a machine shop locally that was able to pull and replace/repair the rocker stud without pulling the head off so decided that was easier and worth not doing the labor to pull the head myself.Bottom line: Not fast to ship (but I knew that going in), had a rocker arm stud break that seems to have been a fluke -shrug-, customer service was always friendly and helpful, they seem to stand behind the warranty, I love how the engine sounds and how strong it is, and I still haven't seen anything comparable for at least $1000 (like 35%) more online.Service: Motor building

TERRIBLE SHOP!! Ordered an engine and they promised 30-45 days max, after 90 days they just kept lying about the status. Looking for good heads, no manpower to assemble heads, engine tester down, shop equipment broken, etc...I cancelled order and after 30 days they still have not issued a refund. STAY AWAY.Service: Motor buildingService: Motor building

Bought a rebuilt 4.7 for my Grand Cherokee. Developed an oil leak from the rear main seal 2 months after installing. A year later coolant leak from the left head gasket. Now 4 years later the right head gasket is blown and low compression on the left head. It looked like a good value at the time. Should have done it myself locally.

Brought in a chevy equinox engine to be remanufactured and after i got it back and had it installed (by a professional shop) it would run and drive but eventually start surging at stop lights and throw engine codes. Called Greg and let him know what was happening and he worked with the shop to fix the problem but ultimately they couldn't solve the mystery. Finally Greg had me take the car to another shop where they were able to fix the problem at no additional cost to me. Highly recommend them and would definitely use them in the futureService: Motor building

This was the most ridiculous place to deal with we dropped a core in December and here it is April and still no reimbursement sent. The man in the office got upset with us and started cussing us out and hanging up on us. I would not recommend this business to anyone they are very slow and very bad customer service

had them rework a Toyota engine. Upon start up something was wrong loud noise whine. Had to pull the engine and take it back to them. They didn't cover any labor, or fluids. I got completely screwed. Read the Warranty its a joke. Its a 25 hour job to remove that engine. They refused to pay.. They installed a cheap aftermarket timing chain and gear set that caused the noise. I pointed it out when I dropped it off and handed them the correct parts from Toyota. They admitted the fault and never paid a dimeService: Engine repair

They stand behind there warranty, my 383 had a restriction in the oil port that feed the top end so the lifters were not getting proper oil flow. This took me about six months to figure out and by that time the valves were shot. Greg told me to pull the engine and he would have it picked up and his team would check it out. EPM completely went through and rebuilt the engine again at no cost to me. I took care of the R&R of the engine because I felt I was party to blame because I knew the rockers were not getting enough oil flow but I ran it anyway. I just had a hard time telling Greg that the oil pressure was high but looked like the top end had lack of oil flow. I feel that EPM and Greg did more than they had too to take care of the problem. Thanks Greg and the EPM team.Services: Engine repair, Motor building
