Had a few things I wanted put on my bike (new tires, frame sliders, etc). Gary went above and beyond and tightened my chain, lubed it, replaced the brake fluid, and topped off the oil in addition to all the things I needed!Best of all?The bike runs AMAZING!!!Switching from Triumph, to Kawasaki, I m so happy I found a go-to mechanic I can trust. That s both local and isn t corporate owned.Highly recommend!

Upgrading handlebars, grips, and fluid reservoirs. Very technical to do it correctly. Lots of precision spacing and drilling. Gary was nice enough to take on the job as it was not a simple one. Something that required skill beyond what the Dealer can handle. Just picked up the bike and can't believe how perfect the result is. If you want something done correctly, the years of experience Gary has make Cycle Metrics the shop to use. My first experience with them, and glad I used their services. This shop is a rare gem.

Y'all! After having my 2009 Honda Shadow with super low miles for 4 years, I have finally found THE PLACE to have it serviced! I have been told "NO" from multiple shops due to the "age" of my bike. I found this amazing man after an emergency happened the day before a 3 day motorcycle camping trip. Long story short, an issue that was off an on and didn't seem like a huge deal, made my bike not start the day before my trip. Not only did he diagnose an issue that I had (that no one else wanted to touch) is less than an hour, he had it fixed the very next morning. Additionally, he went ahead and addressed little things to make my bike run even better and didn't charge an obscene price. I will be taking my bike to Gary from now on! Thank you Gary!!!

Gary just got my Honda TRX 450ER running again. If you are looking for a professional mechanic that pays great attention to detail and can get your bike running, Gary is the guy your lookin for! Gary's level of skill is unmatched by anybody ive run into in the last 40+ years riding bikes. His prices are more than fair for the level of skill and quality of workmsnship. I highly recommend him to anyone you wont be sorry. Thanks, Gary

Best mechanic ever! We were in a time crunch and both my sons had bikes other shops would not work on due to being in the late 1990's (don't get me started on what I think of that policy). Not only did he work on them, he got them in quick, fixed amazingly well, with an exceptional attention to detail, and it was all done for a fair price. There is not enough good I can say about this shop!Services: Carburetor cleaning, Engine repair

Found this shop randomly online and took my bike in for an annual safety check and repair of the speedometer. Great guy that owns it. He said he's been there 38 years just doing what he loves and it shows. Fair price. Great work. Highly recommend this place. I'll be a repeat customer.

I haven t had my bike in here yet, but guy said over the phone my bike was rough without seeing it. Seemed uninterested in the work. Didn t ask about what I wanted done after I told him it was missing a tube from carb to air box. I m surprised at this response since the rest of the reviews seem solid. Was also told not to bring it in until October. As of writing it is aug 21 will update to 4-5 stars if they perform good work

My son just bought his first bike and we needed to get a number of things on it fixed, as well as stuff fixed that we simply did not know to fix (we are both new to bikes). We picked Cycle Metrics because it was close to where we live.We are very grateful we did. The owner, Gary, was so very helpful and kind to my son and me.He fixed everything that needed to be fixed, tuned it up and sat us down to tell us some basics on maintenance. Finally, he recommended to my son that he take the Oregon motorcycle class even though my son has a scooter. We hadn't considered it, but thanks to Gary, my son has decided to take the lesson before he starts riding. I support this decision and I am very grateful to Gary for it.Services: Electrical repair, Tires, Steering & suspension repair, Engine repair, Brake service & repair, Oil change

Gary is the man! By far one of the best motorcycle mechanics in the Portland Metro area, if not the state. He has always been friendly, honest, and straight forward. There are not a lot of shops that are willing to work on older dirt bikes 25+ years old but Gary has helped me with two older vintage bikes while other shops and dealerships have turned me away. Great guy, great service, and great experience!Service: Carburetor cleaning

I made an appointment for a tire change, then my tire got held up by a major storm. Gary had no problem rescheduling my appointment when it arrived.I dropped my bike off in the morning for the new tires and had it back in the early afternoon. He noticed a couple mechanical issues with my clutch, and when I said I'd probably handle it myself he gave me recommendations on which brand to use. While he was changing my tire, he also corrected a few minor errors a dealership made when reinstalling my hard bags. While I just had my tire changed this time around, I would trust him to do more critical work that was outside of my abilities. Also, Gary, you said I'd thank you about the kickstand, and yeah. It's night and day. It came that way so I never knew any better. So.... thank you.Service: Tires

This guy is legit. Gary has helped me several times with advice. He has on several occasions, talked me out of doing something that would have made him money, but he assessed was the wrong thing to do. A rare characteristic. I will always come back to Cycle metrics when I need bike work done.Service: Engine repairService: Engine repair

Five stars do not bring him enough justice. I bought a 1984 V65 Honda Magna about a year ago, and noticed some problems in the way it ran (it wouldn't turn over in a cold start, and finally gave out completely one morning,) I went to the Honda dealer in Tigard for repairs, but was told they would not take anything older than a '93; they gave me the number to Cycle Metrics, so I called there. Gary Black, who owns the shop, he told me to bring it in and he could fix it up for me. Within 3 days he had it running better than when I bought the bike. He did an excellent job repairing everything, and I absolutely could not be happier with the way it turned out. I have been to the shop 2 times for general maintenance, and will continue to bring my bike here for upkeep. He knows what he is doing, and I trust him completely. His prices are fair, he doesn't bullshit you, and he works fast. I don't think I would even attempt to look for another repair shop in Portland, Oregon. Don't hesitate to contact him if you have any questions on a bike, whether you're an experienced rider, or a new one. Very friendly, affordable, and superb work. Thank you for everything Gary, you have gained a loyal customer.

So you all know that I love my motorcycle since I got it back in August but it has been slowly but surely been running rough and loud. Now I am NOT maniacally inclined so I didn't know but I took my bike to Cycle Metrics up on Thompson road and he did a top nitch job. He's rates were fair and now my bike literally purrs and starts up instantly in the cold. He did a bunch of fine tuning as well so all my controls are smooth too. I highly recommend Cycle Metrics for any motorcycle related work.

About seven years ago, I brought my first bike (1989 KLR 250) here to get it up and running. The mechanic did just that. Four days later, I rode that bike home (albeit somewhat awkwardly as it was my first time riding it). I think it was somewhere in the ballpark of $400. That old KLR Jr. was a regular source of problems until I finally gave up and junked it. It would be a couple more years before I got another bike, but I still remember this place fondly. I didn't think this place was still in business or I would've brought my current bike here. (The place I've been going to lately can't even seem to get tires in on time and it's been nothing but excuses about it.)

Gary has been great in helping to keep our older cars on the road. He understands that I don't need it to be brand new but just safe and reliable. Highly recommended.

While they focus on motorcycles, the do auto repair as well. We consistently get good service, honest answers and fair prices. They won't suggest unneeded work and will help you figure out what makes sense to fix, given the overall value of your vehicle. My only hesitation at giving them a 5 star rating is that they don't have some of the conveniences of a large shop, like loaner cars and shuttles. But I'm willing to trade those luxuries for a shop with integrity.

He does great work, treats every project as if it was his own. Therefore he tends to do what he would do to the car, etc. So if you want something done outside of his frame of mind you have to be forceful in what you want. Basically if it ain't broke I'm not fixing it. Honest service, reasonable prices, he is not going to rip you off in any way like so many other shops will try.For those mild mannered types, he can be blunt and come off rude, but I don't think he really means it.

Gary did a great job performing standard maintenance and installing new tires on my Yamaha V-Star 1100. He was quick professional and through. I'll be going back.

Just realized I never wrote a review for this shop. Damn shame, I don't even have the bike he worked on anymore.Long story short, I owned a Honda CX500 for a while, and when I first bought it I thought it had massive overheating issues. He took it in, and was so thorough in his diagnosis he ended up discovering that it was actually an electrical issue with the temperature gauge and a voltage regulator. He even fixed a couple other things while he worked on it, since he was going to charge for the hours anyway. I already thought it was pretty amazing service, and very reasonable rates for an old POS bike.Fast forward about 6 months later, and I took just the carbs in to him for a full rebuild. I did my research and bought a really high-end kit to do the work myself, and then discovered that you needed a degree in nuclear physics to rebuild the stupid things. He took the carbs (one half-disassembled), with my stupid online-kit, and rebuilt them in a week.In the middle of summer. CX500 CARBS. Google them if you think I'm overblowing how incredibly stupid and complicated they are.So yeah, super fast turn around, extremely reasonable rates, and he was even slightly cheaper with the carbs than quoted. The bike ran stupid well after his rebuild, btw.If you have an old bike, go here before anywhere else. Besides, the roads getting there are a fun ride!

The best ever. Quality and sincere. Im about to go on a 4k mile trip and he really relieved a lot of anxiety by changing the sprockets and chain on my bike and even found a couple more issues and fixed them. Wish i wasnt moving so i could continue to use him. Best ever. Not just a quality business but quality people.

Went in for brakes on my yamaha v-star, ended up basically getting a new bike by the time he was done tuning everything up, I honestly didn't even realize how bad it was riding until he fixed it. And he never put on back brakes, he just adjusted my pedal and they worked like new.
