We loved staying here last year. We stayed spring break of 2023. Peggy was so nice and helpful. We loved the Oregon room and being able to come and relax in front of the fireplace after a day of adventuring. We have referred several family and friends to visit here when they get a chance. The beach below is also a hot spot to find agates and fossils

Location is perfect...couldn't ask for a lovelier beach to stay at, not too populated, great for walking and sunset watching. The room we stayed in had a lovely balcony. The room was very clean, bathroom spotless, hostess was friendly and helpful. The bed was fairly comfortable, warm and loved the fireplace.I don't appreciater the use of Scentsy dispensers...triggered a bad allergic reaction and way too strong for the small space.Curtains too skimpy to completely cover the window so I had to tape them together to give complete privacy. There was no deadbolt or security lock on the door. Considering the hotel is right by the highway, i would have felt better about that extra protection.

One of the best places we stayed on the Oregon coast. The Aviator Room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Newly remodelled, it was a welcome respite from the stormy (and extremely rainy) weather outside. We could sit inside on the comfy couch and watch the waves crashing on the beach. We were waiting for a medical delivery while we were there, and Peggy (the innkeeper) went out of her way to help us. We'll definitely return on our next trip to Oregon.

Peggy has been telling people that the motel rooms are in the process of "remolding" in most of her responses for the past couple of years. If the cheap investment group that bought this place back in 2017 gave a rat's patootie about any of their properties, these issues wouldn't be issues at all. The new investment group has run this place, as well as The Waves into the ground. Peggy, stop apologizing for your bosses. I know it's not your fault and you're doing your best to cover for them. However, most of the negative reviews are about things that should be seen by cleaning staff and yourself as manager. The problems didn't just occur when a guest arrived. You make people feel like they're complainers and have the problem. The problem is how this motel is run and overseen. So take some responsibility for it and stop blaming the customers as though they have unrealistic expectations. It's a motel, and people are paying money to stay there. Hire the right people and have your cheap bosses pay for proper labour. It can be done!

Such a lovely little place to stay by the beach! Peggy is a wonderful innkeeper, very communicative, personable, and sweet! The check-in process is smooth. Texting with her is easy, and it was especially awesome to meet the woman going above and beyond to run this inn during check-in, where she provided my partner and me with some extra candy since I had a happy face upon seeing the treats. Even more amazing was entering the room and seeing extra treats and toiletries all set up, such as swan origami towels, and a delicious strawberry white chocolate cake and Martinelli's waiting for us. Apparently my lovely boyfriend called Peggy up to see if she could set up some romantic decor because of some of the past reviews we have read. I've never felt so special due to any hotel. As for the room itself, we rented the Under the Sea experience. The vibes were very whimsical and fitting for the environment, plus we were fortunate to have such a lovely view of the beach. The layout of the room was nice, with the bed next to the three windows that could easily be opened, allowing us to hear the waves and winds, and a television and fake fireplace on the opposite wall. The window areas were a bit dingy with flies, though I guess those buggers are pretty common along the Oregon Coast. The windows in our particular room weren't as dirty as commented in some of the other reviews. The bed was rather squeaky, but also probably a pretty common problem for an older inn and a very small issue at that.I thought the bathroom was clean, with more than enough toiletries provided. The shower is pretty small and it took a while for us to get some hot water running, but it does get the job done. It's an old place and we understand that. No problems with the toilet or sink. Right outside of the bathroom is a little dining area, where Peggy makes sure to supply guests with plates and other potentially necessary amenities. The room also comes with a Keurig. The wi-fi can be spotty, I personally had no problems but my boyfriend had problems sending texts. The exterior of the building is small and cute, but what's amazing is the easy access to the beach. Simply descend some stairs (and pass by the iconic wooden sailor), and voila, you're on the sand. It's an excellent place to do some walking and exploring.I had such a magical little vacation and a big part of why is because of our stay at the Moolack Shores Inn. I definitely understand why Peggy has some repeat customers. My partner and I would definitely love to come back and join that fan club, maybe check out some different rooms next time. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit Newport, especially couples wanting a quieter, quirky, and romantic experience.Rooms: According to the website, there are a lot of different themed rooms from which guests may choose, all offering slightly different benefits. So far we can only comment on the Under the Sea room, which I would highly recommend due to the cute decor as well as its position that allows easy viewing of the ocean.Nearby activities: The beach is a few minutes' drive away from downtown Newport, which has a lot of regular tourist attractions such as gift shops and good seafood restaurants. In addition, it's close to places such as the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. I would also recommend walking by the pier to watch the adorable sea lions.Safety: It's a small inn that doesn't get very much suspicious traffic. The surrounding beaches and roads are quiet. I didn't have any safety concerns during my stay.

The BEST experience! Spectacular view, beautifully decorated-cozy rooms. It was the first time ever to spend the night at the coast. My boyfriends first time ever visiting the state. I HIGHLY recommend the stay. Just save us an ocean front room for our next visit ;)Rooms: Each room had a theme with so much thought. And detail poured into it.

The room we stayed in was not very clean. Although the linens had very strong fragrances which made me believe that at least those were clean, if only they weren t so strong. The view was great, we stayed in the Camelot room. The deck facing the ocean is basically shared with the other adjacent rooms save for a wooden bar dividing them. The shower didn t look like it had been cleaned and was small.

This place is wonderful. Dogs can run free here. The lady who runs it is terrific. There is a large gassy lawn for the dogs and steep stairs that go down to an isolated gorgeous wide beach. Absolutely LOVED this place the rooms are decorated in a happy way, like close up of a cow's face and other novelties. Large windows for viewing the beach. Very enjoyable stay.

We stayed in the Hawaiian room that has spectacular views out of front and side windows. Too bad they are so dirty that you cannot see out. My wife bought windex and cleaned the front window so we had a great view. The panels on the deck are equally dirty. Inside looks good until you look close and see walls, door frames and the roof are chipped and with cob webs on light fixtures. The bathroom is well no nice . Small and not as clean as it should be. Caulking every where needs be redone badly. Dirt in every corner of the floor. also mold and chips in the bath tub. With location and views this place could easily be a 4 star if not a 5.A few items done properly such as having someone fix chips, caulk and paint the tub and touch up paint throughout as well as having the widows cleaned regularly would make this place shine. The sheets were clean and furniture and wall coverings are neat and compliment the room and the theme.Sadly the owners do not seem to care as long as people keep coming.

Moolack Shores Inn is a hidden gem. With our own private balcony and beach you couldn t ask for much more. Peggy was extremely helpful ensuring we felt comfortable! The rooms are extremely updated and made us feel like we were truly away from the hustle and bustle of life. Agate beach is right down the road with an amazing restaurant, Sharks, which is steamed, fresh seafood. If you re looking for a local, family owned business to support the community this is it! We loved how local and private it felt. We stayed in room 1 and plan to come back as soon as possible. In between Newport and Deepoe Bay - honestly the PERFECT location.Rooms: Ocean front view!Nearby activities: Whale watchingFishingSealsSafety: Private

The jungle room was not very clean or luxurious in any way. There is a great view of the ocean, but the window was so dirty it couldn't be seen. I'd recommend bringing come window cleaning supplies as others have. Price was high for what we received, although it was a holiday weekend. Also a car alarm in the parking lot went off for hours at night and that was very annoying.Rooms: Ours was dated and not particularly clean.Walkability: Stair access to the beach and ocean.

This location has amazing views of the ocean, both from the bedroom and from the living room space. Beach access was easy (as easy as climbing a bunch of stairs is) to get to from the rooms. The biggest complaint, wasn't a lack of a fancy bathroom. It was that everything had been washed with fabric softener. My partner and I both struggled to sleep well both nights. It has been my experience to expect that from other rentals, but not a hotel which is why we chose this place. Even the towels weren't absorbent since they had been washed in fabric softener.Peggy was welcoming and helpful when there was an issue with the hot water heater. Rooms were decorated tasfuly and had all of the amenities needed for a fun trip at the OR coast.

The view from the rooms is spectacular. The rooms are themed rooms and they could use some updating. You're paying for the view and access to the beach, in my opinion. Our room, the Safari room was just a room with a balcony and a bathroom. I wanted it for the view and the balcony, with the gorgeous ocean views. The room was overheated and stuffy when we checked in and they used air wick plug ins for air freshener and it was terrible on my sinuses. The rooms did have a smart TV, microwave, fridge, Keurig and fireplace, that was a nice romantic touch at least. Being able to hear the waves was great too but the windows had screens that were torn and holey. With a few easy fixes, decor upgrades and new furniture in some of the rooms it would be a five star stay for sure.

A super beautiful place to stay with the perfect location. The inn is on the cliff overlooking the water, and the view is spectacular. There's a private stairway directly from the inn down to the beach. We stayed in the aviation room, it was well decorated, comfortable and clean, with a little kitchenette, and balcony overlooking the water. You could see the ocean while in bed. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Even though it's on the highway, it was well insulated and you couldn't hear the road noise. You can walk to all of the best rock hunting beaches from the inn, although bring rubber boots to cross the creeks. It's the best place to stay if you want to rock hunt here.

Peggy in Management is always happy to do anything she can to make your stay more enjoyable. Rooms are unique, updated and clean and the views are spectacular. Private beach just steps from your room. Convenient to townNoteworthy details: Rooms come with a Keurig coffee maker, I love that because I have my own coffee that I like to bring with me and usually I have to lug around my Keurig

Cute place on the beach. We stayed in By the Sea room and it was not very clean. The window sills were coated with dust and dog hair. The bathroom had grubby spray foam around the inlets and mold in the shower stall. The bed had creaky springs and was not comfortable. The duct tape on the floor where it transitioned to a higher level was really tacky. The view was nice, tho. With a little attention to detail and newer beds this place could be 5 star.

I stumbled upon this motel due to some terrible "customer service" at another place, and I'm ever so grateful that I did!!A great place with absolutely phenomenal service that I would happily book again... the room was clean, it's very quiet, and there were times I had the whole beach to myself! (If there were folks down there, it was still less than 5 other people!) Paradise! It's a bit of a stairclimb down/up to the sand, so if stairs are an issue this may not be your ideal place. However, there were a couple of nice lounge chairs set up on the grass area on the cliff above the sand that afforded an amazing view as well.It looked like most if not all of the rooms had little balconies with chairs set up, accessible through a sliding door from the room. (I didn't expect this and was pleasantly surprised!)The room was set up with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and even had some plates/utensils handy. There was also a separate seating area from the bed and was laid out well. Also, this was a solo trip and I'll note that I felt completely safe. But above and beyond was the service!!! Newport Coast hasn't really been on my radar but I will happily return now!

I have never posted a bad review for a business in my life, but after my interactions with Peggy, there is a first time for everything. My family arrived to Moolack Shores Inn around 7-8pm last weekend after a long day of driving and attending a family gathering. We were only staying one night in the Hunting Lodge and heading out on the long drive home in the morning, so we knew we were going to pay a premium for a beachfront room - $386 to be exact. First, we were greeted by unleashed dogs barking and running up to our car as we pulled in. Next, we entered the room. And please, don t get me wrong, I understand the coastal grit that one often encounters when staying on the Oregon Coast (I grew up in Lincoln City), but this place was neglected and grimy. It hadn t been deep cleaned in months, perhaps ever. The window sills were coated in dust, multiple *crispy* dead flies had to be removed from them, the front of the fridge splashed with mystery substance, a board was dangling from the railing on the deck, a fuse box exposed in the kitchen and almost immediately I noted that the smoke detectors were missing, WHICH IS A FIRE CODE VIOLATION. The discoveries went on from there though paint peeling off the walls, black mildew all over the caulking in the bathroom, dirty tub that wouldn t drain, hot water that ran out within minutes, etc. etc. All this to be said, it was late, we were hungry and tired and I didn t feel it appropriate to call the afterhours emergency number, nor did I want some stranger invading my family s space to reclean the room, which they had ample time to do BEFORE we arrived.Fast forward to the next day. My husband and I took showers, feeling dirtier than when we got in, packed up the kids and headed home. Later that evening, I sent an email and included the pictures posted here to the email provided on the Moolack Shores website. I was very intentional in my email, explaining that it was in lieu of posting this bad review, because I wondered if the owners knew how poorly maintained their property is? Minutes later, Peggy rings my phone. She was very defensive. She tells me that all of these issues I noted are due to remodeling (huh??) and that the smoke alarms are missing because she needed to speak to the fire department (what??). She was very rude and unreasonable, and the conversation was going nowhere, so I said goodbye and hung up. She later told me that if only I had called or come to the office, all of these issues would have been fixed. Uhh was she planning to bring in a construction crew at 8pm on a Saturday? After I responded in frustration questioning these claims, Peggy told me I was harassing her and refused to let me speak with anyone above her. Obviously I hit a nerve. The funny thing is, I wasn t even requesting a refund. I honestly care about these small kitschy motels that make the coast what it is. It makes me sad that places like this, with such an incredible location and potential to be a real gem, are being neglected and lack any semblance of customer service. The guests are the ones keeping the lights on after all. My family (and I suggest anyone who takes the time to read an honest review) are never staying here again.Rooms: Dirty and poorly maintained.Safety: No smoke detectors, exposed fuse box, detached boards on deck railing.

There were some good things about this room: the bed was reasonably comfortable, sheets were new and clean, young man in the office was friendly and helpful, fridge was clean, view was great, sturdy staircase leading to beach. Most other things about the room (the Safari Room) were highly unpleasant. It needs renovation and a serious deep clean. It looked very different from the photos. I found lots of dust, hair, dirt, and sand under the bed. Rug was filthy. My socks were dirty after walking around without shoes. Baseboards and light switches were very dirty. Towels were worn, stained, and smelled of the plug-in air freshener that was in the bathroom. I found 4 strands of long hair wrapped around one of the hand towels. Lots of dirt in corners of bathroom floor. Shower curtain smelled of mold. Window screen was torn, bugs in the room. I would have left if I could have found another room. It was so not worth the money. I was happy to leave.

We have stayed here the past three years. We fell upon this place by accident. Peggy has been amazing and she really is an amazing woman. Our anniversary falls on Valentines and Super Bowl, imagine how difficult that could be. Each year we keep going back because She has made a difference in our lives. Not only are the rooms wonderful, especially if you can get the rooms with the fireplace. Ocean front, door open, listening to the ocean, remembering that life is your friend. Personally, I am not sure where we will choose to stay when Peggy leaves. or now, this is our place. Merry Christmas.

The manager was phenomenal. The laundry smelled so nice and clean. The room was spotless. It honestly felt like I had been there so many times before and this was our first time there. I loved the view from the under the sea room! My fiance and I spent 2 nights and a day. The romance package was extremely sweet. I can't wait to come back. Oh the bed and pillows in that room were so comfortable!

The location is great for walking and running on the beach. It was hard getting to the Inn because of traffic.Peggy and her staff has made my stay wonderful. I started yo have car problems and Peggy had jumper cables and was able to start my car. She gave great tips and advice for the best time to see the attractions.I will definitely be back because Peggy has brought the Moolack Shores Inn to life with her hospitality and friendly personality!!

My fiance and I adored this spot. The themed rooms are adorable, Peggy is SO sweet and welcoming, and the ocean views are unbearable. Leave the door and the window cracked for constant crashing ocean sounds, it is entirely worth it. Are the mattresses luxury? No. Are the doors and windows a little wonky? Yes. Ultimately though, it's a clean room with cute thematic touches in a phenomenal location that's far enough out of town that the stars are amazing. For 90 bucks a night, I really couldn't have asked for better. We will absolutely be returning.

We have stayed twice now. First time in the lighthouse room and last week in the under the see room. Family stayed in the Americana room. All the rooms have a different decor that are comfy and homey. Great views and quick right on the beach. Always nice staff who are willing to get what you need and know the area well. If you want somewhere cozy and right on the beach this is it.
