We didn't stay long here but it was worth the stop. It s a temporary site while the original site is renovated. The ranger on staff was very nice. They have a small display indoors in the library building.I have very limited mobility and use a walker and electric scooter to get around. I was able to easily get around. The location itself was difficult to find. The building is behind a seminary. You need to make the first right turn into the parking lot after the seminary. Once you make that turn you can t miss the building.

This National Monument was Charles Young s home and not far from Dayton, OH. If you like history, this place worth visiting. Park Ranger is very friendly and informative, offered us a tour and played video for us, even let us picked up some tomatoes from the veggie garden!! You can get the National park passport stamped here, no gift shop but you can pick up a small free gift here as souvenir. Restroom is available.

My husband's and I visited on a Wednesday morning. We watched the film and toured the exhibit. The park ranger was very informative and friendly. Only a few rooms were open as there is a restoration planned to begin in a week or two, so it will be closed for about a year and a half while that happens. It will be interesting to see it afterwards when it returns to how it looked during the years Young lived there in the early 1900's. I was able to get my passport stamp as well.

I was interested in stopping here on our trip through Xenia Ohio. On checking the website it stated that it was open at 10 am on a Sunday, however as you can see from the photos it was closed. Had it been close to the interstate, I would not have minded that much. However it was off the beaten path and we were disappointed to find that it was closed.

Great story of a highly decorated and accomplished man who persevered through times of turmoil for the United states.

Call FIRST. Home is open only by appointment. Passing through. Passport Stamp is available at Dayton First in Flight NPS site because of this reason. Perhaps another day.

Our Boy Scout Troop set up a visit and to do some volunteering at the Charles Young Museum/House. The Rangers were AMAZING! They spent so much time giving our kids a tour and we are very grateful for the time we spent there. This is one of those places you don't necessarily think of visiting. It is in our back yard and a vital piece of our history. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this Museum/House/Monument.

A big problem I have with this site is there really isn t much to see. Although the rangers were nice and helpful and told an amazing story I feel like this house could offer a lot more. It is also a very far drive from a lot of things, minus the town of Xenia or Yellow Springs which are very pretty towns to see if you re in the area. That is not to say you shouldn t see the site, especially if you re a park enthusiast, I just feel like more should be offered.

Great history and stories! It speaks to the past of our family and our country, something that is priceless to those like us whose histories have been twisted, lost or unrecorded, except that which fits another's narrative. The guide was very knowledgeable, clear and engaged in the history of this national treasure. If you have a Junior Ranger make sure to get everything online printed and done before arrival.. our Junior Ranger enjoyed the information but was sad that she couldn't get the badge. Hopefully we will make it back one day as the Buffalo Soldiers are a connection to her families past and that badge would be meaningful to her.

Very much enjoyed our visit and the tour provided by Demetrius, park service employee. Learned much about the third African american to graduate west point , and about his military service. One note...this tour is normally by appointment only so plan accordingly. But the were gracious to serve despite our unannounced arrival.

Open Weekends for home tour by appointment only. Visited Charles Young national landmark today. The visit was limited because of the restrctions they are operating under. Since I'm interested in the study of Colonel Young, the visit was outstanding. For some people they will be disappointed. The 12'minute film about his life is excellent. Over time the site will be developed with more signage.

The site itself is closed, but the alternate site is in the seminary library nearby is very good. The ranger was an excellent wealth of information.

Great preservation going on here. See it before the major renovation that will be happening over the next 18 months or so at some point...or wait for it to be restored to its full glory.

We had an enjoyable and informative tour led by Ranger Summerville. His knowledge of and pride of Colonel Young's achievements made the tour personal. Thank you Ranger Summerville.

Glad we stopped here. Just told us a lot about the history of the military and the African Americans. This was one man's struggle to come up to the military. He was a very strong for small man just standing for what was right.
