Thunder Ray s was my mechanic for the three years I lived in Grand Forks. They always put their customers first. They offered me student discounts, and provided very thorough reports of issues that were discovered on my car. I loved that they have refreshments available to customers waiting in the office. They do not overcharge, quite flexible with scheduling, and by far one of the best mechanics in the area. I highly recommend Thunder Ray s to everyone, including those looking for a new mechanic in the area.

Excellent experience with Thunder Ray s! Scheduled an appointment online for a couple weeks out. Got the car in exactly at the time chosen. Within a couple hours called back after inspection and let me know prices, what was wrong, and what i should fix. Doesn t pressure you and lets you know prices on everything before fixing. Informed me right away that repairs might not get done the same day and would be done the next if not the same day. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks Ray and crew! Will be back in the future!

I had a fantastic experience when I needed tires for my wife s car. The waiting area was comfortable with complimentary snacks and drinks. The combination of great service and a welcoming environment made my visit highly enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Exceptional service at Thunder Ray s Auto Repair! The staff was friendly and efficient, resolving my car issues promptly. The free snacks in the waiting area were a nice bonus, making my experience even better. Highly recommend!

Gave me a ride when truck was in the shop. I had to get my diesel exhaust system replaced which was very pricey and unexpected..I asked him to check my coolant light as well which I believe he reset, Then it came back on couple days later. Probably wasn t his fault, but pretty firm on his price and wasn t willing to work with me, cause I had to pay over $2k for tire rotation, replacement, oil change, etc but overall good service..

after struggling for years with a coolant problem, thunder rays figured out the problem. they were prompt about answering phone calls or questions I had. the hospitality of ray and his crew is something you ll find no where else. i simply can t say enough good things about the service they ve provided me with. I had a transmission issue in my Subaru Forester this past week and had the absolute best experience at Ray s! After calling every transmission repair shop (including the Subaru dealership) in Grand Forks, Ray s was able to get me in the quickest. I was scheduled for 6 days out and they looked at and fixed my car in 4! Ray was extremely communicative throughout the whole process and never left me wondering about what was happening with my car. They also offer a student discount for us broke college kids! I will be going to Ray s for any and all car repairs I may need in the future!

A couple days late on this review but better late than never. My family and I were on our way to Fargo when our drive was interrupted with some loud noises coming from under the Rogue. Thinking it was a bearing or something we didn't know if we should proceed. But we did anyways. In search of a Garage we stumbled across Thunder Ray's. Without an appointment and with our family dog we pulled over. Ray was there and he quickly jumped to the pump and helped us. Very friendly and quickly he had my suv up on the hoist and his techs looking at it. He let our dog into the shop to stay cool while we waited. Within a few minutes we discovered it was some heat shields that had corrosion and fell off. The shop was clean. The staff amazing. If I ever have concerns coming into Grandforks Thunder Ray's will be the first place I go to. Thank you so much for the 5 star service. You allowed this canadian family some piece of mind so we could continue on our little trip. Thanks EH!!

This last time I wanna say was my third time going to Ray's every single time I have had nothing but a great experience. I brought my van in this last time for a Evap leak code which had been "fixed" twice already by someone else, Ray got right down to the problem and got it fixed and made sure it was fixed before I left with it. If you need a GREAT place to go for vechicle repairs I highly recommend Thunder Ray's.

Anytime we call for an appointment, they always make the time we need work for us.We are always met with a welcoming smile when we arrive in the office. The no nonsense approach to fixing what is wrong with the vehicle without the sales push is a welcome difference to other mechanics. They are good at what they do and do it well. Thunder Ray s Auto Service has never disappointed us! My car is 12 years old and it runs like a new car. They check everything, even if just in for an oil change. They listen, they are very courteous, friendly and understanding. Ray such a wonderful person! He goes beyond to satisfy his customers. He makes you feel right at home. Plus he have snacks while you wait for your car to be done. Honestly I am going to be sad when I moved from here next year. I have lived in Grand Forks pretty my whole life never met someone so honest like Ray. My son is a UND student and had a car breakdown. I am in Colorado. After a bit of research, I found this repair facility. Ray was professional, helpful and knowledgeable about the needed repairs. Ray fit us in when he had the chance and fixed the car for a fair price. It is difficult to have to find someone trustworthy in such a situation from another state but my son and I had the good fortune of finding Ray. I went to get the knock sensors replaced in my car and when I got it back not only did the codes read the exact same, fluids were leaking everywhere and my power steering was way horribly wonky. I called to tell him about it and was basically told that because he didn't run the diagnostics he wasn't responsible for the problem. Given the huge bill I just paid to him, I then decided to bring my car back in with a sheet of paper that showed the codes reading the exact same as whati broughtit in for. An additional $200+ later, he then fixed the knock sensors. After I picked it up for the second time, I called him again about the fluids leaking everywhere and the bad smell to which he replied that something must've spilled on the engine and that it would burn off. When that never happened, I then brought my car back there for the third time to address the new issues that weren't there prior to my initial visit to the shop and he said for an additional $700 he'd replace the hoses that THEY wrecked. I almost hit a car today because I couldn't turn my wheels. It's been a super expensive learning experience in that my first question should have been whether they work on my model of car instead of going straight for a price quote. If I could turn back time, I would've never brought my car there.NO. I originally came out to your place asking for a price to replace two knock sensors, not called. You may have cleared the codes after replacing the sensors but immediately after leaving your establishment is when I actually called and it was to report that the check engine light was back on and inside my vehicle is a stench of burning fluids. If you watch ANY YouTube video about this repair it states what all it entails, not to mention your guys should have known this so your comment "whoever diagnosed your vehicle needed to go deeper and find the root cause which was a bad connector which we repaired at a discounted rate because of some other misdiagnosises" is merely deflection. And I knew as soon as you said that the odor I was smelling inside my vehicle would "burn off and go away" that you already knew your guys mishandled my vehicle. No worries on me asking somewhere else about the new developments becauseit's a hard pass on your offer to "work something out' because I've already tried that.

I was recommended this place from several people as I'm not from the area and have only ever trusted my father to work on my car, I was incredibly anxious about finding someone new. First of all, I have never been in an auto shop that offers free snacks and drinks, what an awesome thing to have for people who are waiting on their vehicles! Second, Ray was super helpful and professional, the mechanics let me know any other issues there may have been with my car that would need servicing soon. On top of that, the price was super reasonable. I will be returning here to get my brakes brakes fixed =)Services: Wheel alignment, Oil change

I took my RAV4 in for an oil change and tire rotation at Thunder Ray's and received absolutely fantastic service. I brought a pair of headphones to use while waiting but didn't even use them because I had such a great time talking with the owner and his wife! It was much faster than the dealership in town, and I felt like I received better service. The tech came out at the end and let me know exactly how everything looked and when I might expect to need new brakes. Overall a great experience and Ray's will be the only place I take my car for service in town from here on out.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

I had recently had my check engine light and brake lights turn on at the same time and have them a call the next morning. They got me in immediately and fixed my rear brakes very quickly. The lobby is beautiful and the service was fantastic. Mom and pop type feel with quality service. I will definitely recommend to any and all of my friends! The owner is such a kind person. Brought my daily in for some relatively minor maintenance, but a full inspection revealed that much more was needed than originally expected. Ray and his guys knocked out a two page receipts worth of work in less than 24 hours at a ridiculously fair charge considering the labor involved. Car's running smoother than it has in a long time, and I couldn't be happier with the services provided. I can definitely say that Thunder Ray's has me as a loyal customer. My dad needed his oil changed and brakes flushed and he likes to shop around. He found that Thunder Rays is very reasonably priced and provided very prompt service. From the greeting, to the assurance of they ll get the job done, to even getting the car in earlier than expected Thunder Rays is going to be his choice for future visits! Ray is awesome! This is the only place I'll bring my vehicle. They replaced my transfer case and I'm having them replace my transmission, starter and tire on my truck. Prices are great! Quick repairs, perfect place to support your hometown shop. The guys are super nice and will help you with just about anything.

I made an appointment online for an oil change and was completely satisfied with the service and fair pricing. I would highly recommend Thunder Ray's. They did a awesome job on my truck. They are very professional and very nice people there. As I waited for my truck to be done I sat and visited with Mr. Ray Lee the owner of Thundet Ray's. They also offer free refreshments while you wait for your vhecual to be done. My truck runs great now after the awesome service that it received at Thundet Ray's Auto Repair in Grand Forks ND.
