Had a wonderful experince with them when my car broke down. Their prices are comparable to surrounding shops however everyone I interacted with was super helpful and knowledgeable and thus I couldn't say something bad about them even if I wanted to 10/10 will go to them if I find myself needing car help again in the grand forks area

Long story, short. My transmission died and I had a tow by Braden from 701 Towing to Golden Rule. Since I am new to the area I was grateful for a recommendation. Golden Rule was booked up but was still able to get my car in that week to diagnose it. Noel was fantastic at keeping in touch and extremely knowledgeable for my options. I ended not getting any work done at Golden Rule and bought a replacement car instead, but my experience with the level of service Noel provided has made me a lifelong customer already!

I brought our van in to get diagnosed for the failing alternator. The crew was excellent very helpful and reasonably priced.Had it in same day diagnosed, repaired and back to me end of day! I've taken my one owner vechile to other shops mainly big dealers and haven't been treated as well or had the excellent quality work done as Golden Rule and the employees have provided. Golden Rule has treated me well with every repair that I've brought my car in for. All of their services were performed on-time with skill and at a fair price. Problem assessments have always been honest and the repair plans have been put together to minimize the potential for wasted shop time. Hands down, Golden Rule Auto Repair provided the best customer service I've ever received at any auto service shop! Staff were very friendly and seemed to really enjoy their work.I was able to get an appointment at 4:30pm on the same day I called for tire repair. They called at 5:35pm (5 minutes after closing) and said they found parts in town and asked if I still needed the vehicle that night or if I could wait until morning. I could wait. They offered to text me when it was ready as I may not want my cell phone ringing at work, so thoughtful.The next morning, they found another problem with the vehicle, already found parts in town, and offered to repair, but said I didn't need to do it that day, they just offered me a quote. I was very impressed with their low-pressure sales techniques. Price quotes were competitive and well-researched.Overall, everyone at Golden Rule Auto Repair made the whole experience personal, friendly, and trusted. I will definitely be back!

Our first time here and wow it was amazing! We called Monday about our ac in the van and a few other things. They got us in on Friday! Service was amazing and made you feel like you were at home with family. Explained everything they were doing and why. (And explained in words I could understand lol) price was exactly what they said it would be. Offered rides if we needed them. Very accommodating with our busy schedules. Would highly recommend if you need anything done on your vehicle. We will definitely be going back!

They recommended the wrong oil for an oil change, but they fixed my daytime running lights and now my accessory fuse constantly blows so that my 12v outlet doesn't work nor does my rear hatch release button, worked fine before. Asked them about it and was told that they want more money. Not a sorry about that lets see what's going on. Don't recommend. Seems like they were in too much of a hurry and didn't really want to look into it, got to keep those customers rolling through and take that money instead. People make mistakes, I don't think they believe in that though. I didn't even ask for a refund. He thought about taking some responsibility for the issues but he decided against. Golden Rule is the auto shop you hope for. Whether it is an oil change or the mystery noise, Noel and Bryan listen to their customers, they go above and beyond in communication with customers and finding the root of your vehicles problem. They are good people who treat others how they would like to be treated, they don't simply throw car up on a lift and go on about day...your car is their car. They will tell you what needs to be done, what can wait, and what your options are. Their phenomenal technicians exemplify the Golden Rule as well, they don't just put parts back into the car; they make sure its always better than when it came in, going above and beyond as well.I have since moved to Fargo and continue and forever will, continue my services at Golden Rule Auto Repair. I used to work with Noel quite a bit between 2014-2017 and everything went very smoothly back then. However, last week I brought my car in because the Check Engine light had come on. Bob ran the codes and told me that the check engine light had something to do with the Evap Solenoid system. He told me that he could look into the issue for about $150. I had him do so and he reported back that the vent solenoid valve needed to be replaced and it would cost me $650. I called around and found a place that would do it for $350, so I called Bob and recorded the exact details of his diagnosis. After replacing the vent solenoid valve, the check engine light was still on. I ended up needing to pay for another diagnosis at the new mechanic, where they quickly found that the reason the Check Engine light had come on was because a wire had corroded. This was a simple $50 fix. While talking with the new mechanic I found that there was most likely nothing wrong with the valve itself, and that I only should have replaced the wiring. This was a $200 (Maximum) job that ended up costing me $700 total. I called Bob back with this information and asked that he simply refund me $150 for the misdiagnosis that caused me to pay an additional extra $350 for an unneeded repair. Bob told me that he was going to keep the money, because he still ran the codes. I reminded Bob that he had charged me for the 1 hour of work to look into the code, not to find the code itself. He then told me that it would have been much more work to actually take the car apart and look into the specific problem. All in all I am left frustrated, confused, and out $500. If he charged me $150 to investigate an issue, but did not do a full investigation and ended up giving me a misdiagnosis I believe I deserve my money back. Bob apparently does not feel the same way.Edit to Response from Owner:There you have it folks. Go to this repair shop if you want life lessons. Don't go to this repair shop if you want fair estimates or good diagnostic work done.

Excellent customer service. Friendly staff. Brought my car in to fix the heater. They had to take off the dash. Afterward, the auto start wouldn't work. I know stuff happens. But they offered that if they couldn't repair it, they would send me somewhere else (who specializes in alarms) and pay for the fix.There are plenty of places I don't go to anymore simply because of the customer service. Even if they have the best product around. Golden Rule isn't one of them. All in all, I recommend it.

Noel and Bob were very helpful and made sure to explain to me what was wrong and gave me a reasonable price to fix what was wrong. The auto team at Golden Rule fixes stuff right and professional. Was able to get me in and out within one hour without an appointment for an oil change. The place was insanely busy and I had trouble finding a place to park. Very grateful that I was able to get my car in because I needed it badly. The guys were efficient, honest and fun to chat with. Will be coming back again, and would recommend!

Top notch service and customer service. They are the only ones I trust with my vehicles. They won t nickel and dime you. They are upfront and honest which is difficult to find in the town when it comes to vehicle repair. Give them a call, you won t regret it and won t go back to anyone else for your vehicle maintenance or repair needs.

Always take the time to listen to your concerns and give you plenty of detailed information about your car. They don't waste your time trying to upsell you anything you don't need and actually try to help you find what's best for your vehicle in the long term, even if they have to refer you to someone more specialized. Fair market pricing and never felt like I've been overcharged.

These guys really are the best in town. I lived in Grand Forks for 3.5 years and this was my favorite place to take my car. Keep in mind, they usually have a backlog of work so schedule an appointment if possible.

These guys take their name seriously. Noel behind the counter was friendly and gave honest advice. They really thought about my position being a student with a cheap car. They made no attempt to talk me into unneeded services or repairs. The necessary parts and labor was at set reasonable prices. I will be back.

Excellent work from a locally owned repair shop. Recently they replaced my tires. I wanted to keep the old ones to sell or give away. They bagged each of the old ones individually before putting them in the back of my jeep! Thanks for the attention to detail, I really appreciate it.

I had a situation where I had my car misdiagnosed, and they almost made me cough up $400 for parts that wasn't needed to begin with. I thought with their expensive prices I'd be getting quality services but that wasn't the case at all.
