Customer service, customer appreciation and customer retention are all qualities that are hard to find anymore. Thacker Automotive is no different. Over the past 12-18 months, I have given them over $2,500 in business to do a brake job and differential/transfer case service on my 2017 GMC Sierra 2500. I have no complaints about the work itself. However, last week, I got in my truck at the airport after a business trip and noticed the check engine light was on. I live in Mayodan so drive about a mile from their shop heading up 220. I pulled off the exit there on Highway 65 where they are located and noticed it was 11:55 am so thought I'd check to see what time they took lunch. All I needed done was a quick hookup of a code reader to tell me what was wrong so I could then make an appointment...and I was only a mile away. The woman answered the phone and I asked what time they took lunch...she said 12:30-1:30. I said great, I'm right down the street and my check engine light is on and need a quick code...then she immediately interrupted me and said "Oh no, we're appointment only". I said, "Yes ma'am, I understand, I just need the code read so I know what the issue is and I'll make an appointment". She said "Well, it's just not that easy". I asked "Why is it so easy at other places I go to?" She replied, "Well then, I suggest you take it there". I said, "Yes ma'am, that is exactly what I will do. I pulled into AutoZone up in Maydoan and a young lady about 18 came out, hooked up the code reader and told me my glow plug on cylinder 4 was at fault. Took her all of 30 seconds. So, yes, it IS that simple. Not only was that woman extremely rude and interrupted me, but she displayed absolutely ZERO effort or willingness to hook up a code reader. It's not like I was asking them to rebuild my transmission on a walk-in. Needless to say, they will never get another dime of my business. They can treat other people rudely and inconsiderately. Even the slightest bit of effort and consideration for my business and they would have had a customer for life.

If you are looking for cheap and fast go elsewhere. If you are looking for high quality work, especially on complicated items, I have never been to a better place. Not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Great shop.............even better people!!! Proud to be in this community with them. Thanks for the excellent service today guys, and getting my tires squared away. Employee of the month goes to Sampson I suppose....haha. If I could give them zero stars I would! They are scam artists! My sister went to get her car inspected there keep in mind we ve already had her car looked at by a mechanic, they flagged her car and said the tire rod was messed up so they couldn t inspect it well since they flagged it no one else can either and the other multiple places we ve taken it today have clearly and most certainly said not a damn thing is wrong with her tire rod!!!! So thanks Thackers for trying to take advantage of a woman and get money out of her over a damn part that doesn t even need to be fixed!!!!!!!
