A glorious godsend of a repair shop, on the long lonely journey between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. My car had a very small, but very bridling, sudden problem on US 17, and Don & his men were able to diagnose and then replace the part lickety-split, with efficiency, kindness, and expertise, all for a very reasonable cost. This is like the best long-gone little out-of-the-way repair shops of my youth (back when I drove cars that were always breaking down), with a well-worn interior, and a family-run atmosphere that makes you feel confident in the service, and glad that you're not at a sterile behemoth national chain.

Got hung up on with in the first 5 seconds of talking because I said I had the part already bought just needs to be put on and there response was we don t put your parts on and hung up very unprofessional this was my first time trying to do business with them in my opinion anywhere else treats you better then that in called for

Went in for an inspection for my car. Not only was Don quick in getting the job done, his prices were a great surprise. I will be using his service in the future.

I did not do business with this place. However I spoke to the staff and he was very kind and very helpful. Even offered to get me a phone number for another place. Would definitely try them in the future.

I took my 03 Ford Explorer to L&A South Tire and Auto because my vehicle was overheating and they had previously done work on my water pump and hoses. They replaced a bad clam and the very next day I had to take it back it was still overheating. They told me I had a cracked block and it was going to cost $8,000 to fix it. As a single full time daddy I had no idea how I was going to fix or get another vehicle and we were without transportation for a month. Something told me to get a second opinion so I took it to Don. All it needed was a new radiator and he fixed it immediately for a very reasonable price. I am so pleased with his service and care of his customers. Very reasonable pricing. Don is very knowledgeable and does excellent work. My mother in law told me I should try this place because she doesn't trust anyone else with her vehicle. I now understand why. Nice guy, straightforward, and trustworthy.

Don was great! He explained everything that was wrong with my car and was able to fix it in a timely manner despite having to find the parts for it that were not readily available. Being a woman, and not knowing that much about cars, I went in skeptical about being taken advantage of my lack of knowledge. He definitely put my mind at ease and was very affordable. Thank you for the great service!

I have a 1996 Ford Bronco I've had for almost 30 years, and like any ride that old, it has issues. Many guys don't want to or don't know how to fix old stuff like that. Don kept it for a few days, called me every afternoon, and told me what he had done and what needed to be done. Fixed a lot of the engine problems and got her running. That's more than I've gotten from a lot of mechanics. So he'll be getting my business again.Services: Carburetor cleaning, Engine repair

Exceptional service! I am very thankful to have used Don's Automotive for the 1st time while down at our 2nd home in Holden Beach. I unfortunately had my car break down on this past memorial day near Don's shop. As a walk in customer, I was greeted very politely. Don was quick to assess the issue. Due to the holiday, there were no rental car companies open. Don and staff were able to think outside the box and get us back up and running within just a couple of hours. This is a efficient, no nonsense shop. I would highly recommend this shop, very pleased with the service.Service: General repairs & maintenance

We was recently on vacation and had car break down and everyone else was.not.willing.to.get to it. Though they were busy they got us in and.up and.running immediately! Also made sure othere issues with van was made aware to us and fixed. The cost was more than reasonable and the service top notch. I recommend this garage for all your needs and if I was local would have them do all our work from now on!! While on vacation to Holden Beach the AC on our Toyota van suddenly began squealing loudly. Don and his mechanics worked our van into their schedule and quickly analyzed the problem. The belt tension adjustment had backed off. He could have easily charged us for a complete AC overhaul and we would not have known the difference. Quality and honest work is hard to find these days. I highly recommend Don and his shop for all your automotive needs.

Update: 3 years later, I find myself living back in Shallotte, and Don may be busy busy busy but that's what you get when you're the best shop in town! He still got me in and out on in a 20-minute inspection with others waiting! Waste no time or money elsewhere, go see Don!FANTASTIC shop!! Honest mechanic who will not nickel and dime you, he will tell you straight forward what needs to be done and will get the work done, and done right, he will even take the time to chat car parts, work, and diagnosis with the customer to make sure you understand what the issue is and how he is fixing it. I had my well taken care of 00 Acura Integra at 2 different shops in the area and they both missed a simple diagnosis of a bad distributor even after a tune-up, changing the distributor rotor and cap, as well as a catalytic convertor. I was still having problems and misfiring after almost $800 in work elsewhere so I brought my car to Don's to look over the warranty work done by another TechNet shop and he found the problem in no time, ordered the parts, and had it fixed and running like the day I bought the car with 70k miles on it. It has 173k miles on it now and is running like the champion it has always been. Stand up mechanic that I would highly suggest if you don't want to be messed around by a local shop with a surgical style waiting rooms who overbook and turn and burn cars with costly overhead to drive up the labor expenses. I will be coming to Don's for all my mechanical needs from here on out. Thank you, Don!!!!

I went to Dons for an inspection. I was charged almost $200 for a single USED tire. I'm not a mechanic however I do know that you are not supposed to change just ONE TIRE. My car was there for 3 days to change one tire. I may be a woman, but I am not an idiot nor will I be taken advantage of. My money spends just like anyone else's and it will be spent elsewhere from now on.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance

Had to leave my car in the area after some engine trouble. Looked up local repair shops and the reviews and replies from the owner brought me in. Loved my experience with Don s Automotive. Dropped my car off and they saw me starting to walk to my ride 2 miles away and they had one of their friends catch up to me and give me a ride back to the car. They called me with the diagnosis/price and gave me a heads up that they might have to replace the coils if it was damaged. Gave them the green light. I called before leaving Charleston to make sure it was ready for pickup and it was a smooth transaction when I got there. Car was ready and was in and out in less than 10 minutes. They could ve just went ahead and changed the coils and make the additional money, but told me that they checked them out and that they re still good. Would definitely come back if I ever have car problems in the area. Read the reviews on google and read the replies to the bad reviews. Can t take the word of bad customers.

I never let anyone else work on my car. I'd recommend his business to anyone. I've never felt over priced. He listens and explains the problem. His wife runs the front and is very friendly, experienced, and patient.

We were in town for summer vacation when our A/C went out. Don and his team really took care of us. They were able to get everything fixed and we had our car back the next day. The price was fair and the service was excellent. My little girls really appreciate having the A/C back. Thank you Don.

This week was first time I used Don's Automotive and I am very satisfied that he fixed my 2002 ford mustang gt. I will be a returning customer if need be. I will recommend Don to everyone I know. Good people, and very friendly and they make sure everything is right with your vehicle.

Me and my boyfriend called concerned about our check engine light coming on the day before we had to go home (we are here on vacation). Don told us to stop by and was very courteous when we arrived. He clearly explained the issue to us after checking our car out and didn t charge us a thing for it. I highly recommend Don s whether you re from around town or just visiting. Five cents fee if you re caught whining though!

Stopped in for a routine state inspection and we were promptly helped. We were in and out in 25 minutes. It is located about 1 mile from DMV so we were able to go and get our tag renewal sticker. Don, the owner is a gentleman and very polite. You should consider Don's Automotive.

Top notch! Had my truck at another garage for a week. The other garage was rude and after a week still had made no progress on my truck. Don's was friendly and had my truck completely fixed in half a day. I will be using Don's Automotive indefinitely. Thanks for the awesome service

My family and I were on vacation to Ocean Isle Beach in September 2017. Halfway through our vacation, our drive side window would not go back up. We tried everything, except ripping the door apart, and nothing helped. We decided to see if we could borrow some tools from a local mechanic, and the local gas station recommended Don's Automotive. The staff was super friendly. They got our car fixed, and ready to go in roughly 15 minutes. They were so helpful, and saved us from worrying about rain on our trip!! I highly recommend this place. You won't be unhappy!!

Stopped by today to get an Inspection (State Inspection) on my Explorer. Don and his staff were friendly and professional. They worked me in without having an appointment and I was on my way back to enjoy the Beach. We're fortunate to have local business people like Don, I used him many times in the past and he always been great to work with and does outstanding work. When I have a problem with one of vechicles when I'm at my home in Ocean Isle he's the first person I think of. Thanks Don, keep up the great service.

Our alternator went out while we were on vacation. We went to Don s Automotive for the repair. They were able to fix us up and get us back on the road by the next morning so we could continue our time at the beach. Thanks for saving the day guys! As two damsels in distress, I d like to give a shout out to Don s Automotive. We were headed home from OIB when my car started acting up. At first it was making a buzzing sound then the electronic power steering system warning light came on. Next thing I know the car wouldn t hold a charge and we were stuck. Don was slammed but said if we could have the car towed, he would do his best to get us back on the road in a timely fashion. In his mind he knew that replacing the alternator should took care of my problem and it did. He and his wife Silvia bent over backwards that day to help us and I was extremely grateful. I highly recommend this independent, family business for good service, reasonable pricing and honesty! Thank you again!

When my AC started screeching, I figured it would cost a thousand or more. I met with Don and watched him call 5 or 6 different parts houses trying to find a specific part that could potentially save me hundreds. Couldn't find any. As we talked he said let me try one other place. So glad he did. He found the simple replacement part that saved me over $800. He could have very easily done a total replacement and I would not have known it could be done that way. After this experience I am convinced Don is in the business because he enjoys what he does and the money made is a benefit of his love of vehicles. Especially Mustangs!! Thanks Don, I'll be back

Unfortunately this was our 3rd time visiting Don's shop. Twice for AC repair and another for a diagnostic advice for noise coming from the back of our vehicle. All repairs were handled efficiently and at a fair price and as a result we have referred 5 families to Don's shop for similar problems and they have all received the same excellent service.
