Fantastic folks! So good that when going to pick up our repaired car, a customer coming out stopped us to let us know we were in good hands. That kind of thing just doesnt happen if you're not doing something right. Super pleased and will seek them again when needed without hesitation.

Our primary commuter car was totalled (not our fault) and so, we ended up buying a 11 year old Mazda 3. Few months after, we noticed AT and Check Engine Light. Our regular mechanic recommended Dauntless and so, Gil looked into our problem and fixed it!. Within 2 weeks after this, again we noticed AT and check Engine Light but then, the codes were different.Gil (has lots of patience!, thank you for this!) explained the problem is with the onBoard computer not working as expected. We were not convinced (transmission related, happening two weeks after it was repaired) but then, Gil patiently explained what was going on which gave us the assurance! We were limping along while waiting for the new car that we placed orders.Gil also explained the failed part is in short supply and that Mazda dealership has quoted 6 months waiting time for this part. Gil suggested our options are use it as is or look for a replacement in the junk yard. We decided to use the car as is. Symptoms at this point were:Hard shift into Drive and/or ReverseVehicle stays in 3rd gear onlyCheck Engine light and AT lights are onCouple of months later, the AT problem got worse and this time, we were forced to go back to Gil and ask him "can we get a used part to replace the failed one". Gil took the parts out, to take out the failed part that needed to be replaced which was of TREMENDOUS HELP! Knowing how the part looked helped us to locate what to look for. Once we found it and replaced, our car has been running fine for more than a month.Other than charging us (fair, the charges were) for the first time, Gil did not charge 1c for the subsequent time we sought help. Gil's patience to explain the problem and restore the confidence about the car's safety cannot be assigned a $ value.We can't thank Gil and Dauntless Transmission enough for being thorough professional and helping us like a true expert would. Max has taken great care of me over the last few years. I first needed a transmission fluid change. I drove to his shop and then he drove me back home in my vehicle so he could get a feel for any problems. The work was done in a day and he brought my vehicle back to me at my home! He called me with an estimate after they had gotten the vehicle back to the shop and communicated with me throughout the day. It is rare to find someone like this these days.I was so impressed with my first visit that when I started having engine problems, I took my car back to him. He was able to figure out the problem, take care of it, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.It is time for another transmission fluid change so I already know who will do it. Gil was very knowledgeable and communicated very well throughout my transmission issue. He was ultimately unable to locate parts to repair or replace my transmission and I had the option of over-paying for a high demand used transmission or paying to put it back together broken - neither of which I wanted to do. Gil was gracious enough to give me a few days to locate parts myself and I was lucky enough to find a new trans at Lexus in Miami. He was happy to deal with the alternate supplier and got the work completed quickly once we had a game plan. Thanks again Gil!!**Word of Warning** check for parts availability BEFORE the diagnosis begins. With the supply chain issues, there could be a delay and Gil just doesn't have the space for your car to sit and wait for parts for weeks. I understand but if I hadn't been able to find an alternate, I was faced with a horrible decision.Service: Transmission

Dauntless Transmissions is the place to go to if you need your transmission rebuilt. I drive for Uber and blow transmissions like it is nobody's business. Gil and his crew of professionals did a total and complete overhaul on my VW Jetta, along with a few extra repairs that I requested. Since the repair, I put somewhere around 2,300 miles on it and it shifts like a brand new vehicle. The people running Dauntless are top notch and trustworthy. Excellent experience. The transmission diagnostics fee was $480. My fault that I was shocked by it. Live and learn. Make sure you re clear about the charges before you ask them to look at your car.

I tried, but they didn't seem interested in working on my vehicle.After making an appointment, I left my car for the whole day. I called near the end of the day, and they said they were too busy to work on it, and suggested leaving my car overnight. My only car.So I told them I would pick it up. They took a "quick look" at it, and gave me a and a diagnosis, which turned out to be completely wrong. They promised to call me with an estimate the following morning, which never happened.I was skeptical of the diagnosis from the getgo-- they didn't drive my car enough to even reproduce the issue. I won't be returning.Pros: Didn't break anything, didn't charge me anything.

Gil at Dauntless is a life saver! He was very communicative and explained everything to me in detail. He was able to fix my car issues very quickly (when the dealerships were saying they found not even look at it for 2-3 weeks). 10/10 will recommend Dauntless to ALL my friends and anyone who needs transmission work!

Gil and Max are the BEST of the best. We ve trusted them with our cars for years now and they are the only place we will go. They do amazing quality work and are honest and up front with their prices. They stand behind their work 100%. They re easy to work with, communicative, and very professional. They know what they are talking about and make sure to go the extra mile to ensure our cars are safe. It s rare to find such genuine people!

I took my Honda Odyssey to Gil for transmission issues while my vehicle was still under warranty. The warranty company was giving me issues and not wanting to cover work that absolutely should have been covered. Gil helped me navigate through the red tape and speak the warranty companies language. I m confident that without his patience and genuinely wanting to help I would have been stuck with the full bill for the repair. He did a great job explaining exactly what the warranty company needed to see so I could satisfy that my claim was valid. Outside of just helping with the warranty company he did a great job on the repair and was pleasant to work with. That was my first experience with this shop and they have definitely earned a customer for life.

Gil and Max are two of the most trustworthy and honest people in the business. Dauntless is the kind of shop that everyone looks for - people you can trust. My first experience with Gil was in 2011 when the transmission in my suburban went out. Gil spent time understanding how I use the vehicle and recommended some parts to strengthen the overall build of the transmission. He even took the time to show me around the shop and the parts that came out of my transmission. I have also used Dauntless for numerous repairs not related to my transmission. On one occasion, a part arrived for my vehicle very late in the day - Max got it fixed and back to me that day. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. They go the extra mile every time.

We ve been going here for years, for an old Tacoma, then a Tundra, and 2 different CRVs. They don t just do transmissions, but that s how we found them all those years ago. They re great! They re honest, efficient, and communicate well with us through the process. Can t recommend Max (and Gil before him) enough. Today at 10:30a, my check engine light came on. By 12:30, they had my car and by 5p they had diagnosed, fixed with parts and had me on my way! I m still waiting on Honda to call me back . Max and his crew were very helpful and took care of my Mercury. Got the transmission rebuilt with all new interior parts. They are not cheap, but I'll pay for great service. Even offers 30 day check ups on work performed. Definitely recommend Dauntless.

Glad I went here. I guess my work van transmission was failing. They found metal fragments in the pan. They also found a few more issues that would have been expensive repairs but since the transmission was out they fixed it and wasn't so expensive. Max was amazing and friendly. He was so helpful throughout the whole process. I had a protection plan which required him to deal with the company. He worked with the company and was very patient. From turn in and receiving my van it was 7 business due to ordering parts and rebuilding the transmission. Max was the best. I highly recommend them and would strongly suggest using Max at dauntless transmission. Please give my appreciation to the whole team that worked on my van, thanks.

I have come to Dauntless Transmissions for two of my Toyotas and both times Max has been thoughtful, honest, and thorough in his care of my vehicles. TL;DR - Great service, knowledgeable, went above and beyond for us, saved us money, car runs better than it did 30k miles ago.We brought our 2010 Mazda 3 to Dauntless after having it serviced at another shop. Check engine light came on and car seemed to have trouble shifting prior to the initial service. The previous shop wanted to replace the entire auto valve body in the transmission when that wasn't even the issue, as we discovered later. We called Gil to get a second opinion and we made an appointment right away. He checked the transmission, pinpointed the issue (computer malfunction), explained his diagnostic process in detail, and always asked before he went ahead with the fix. Gil also went above and beyond by driving to pick up the part we needed so we could have it fixed same day, instead of waiting another day or two to get the part in. He also stayed after closing to make sure we could pick up our car the same day as our appointment. He earned our trust and the car is running better than it has in a long time. Gil earned customers for life.

I thought I was having problems with my transmission - particularly the lock up part of the torque converter. My vehicle is an old 2003 Dodge Ram so I expected the worst. I called Dauntless. They went out of their way to try to work me into their schedule. But due to personal conflicts I was unable to bring my vehicle in right away. Max continued to asked me questions over the phone in an attempt to diagnose the problem since I was planning a trip out of town. He suggested that changing the spark plugs might solve the issue I was having. He was spot on! I changed the spark plugs and the truck is like new again - no transmission problems. You don't find many people like Max in the world anymore. Being willing to talk to somebody on the phone and give them advice is remarkable. I will definitely be back in contact with Dauntless whenever I do have transmission problems. They seem to genuinely want to help you in whatever way they can.

First thing that comes to mind when dealing with Max & Gil is "Money well spent". Had my 2010 Hummer in for a clutch replacement, they worked during the holiday and proactively returned the car 2 days ahead of schedule so I could use it for the weekend. Max provided me regular updates , shared pictures of the old parts, advised on the best solutions (even if it wasnt the costlier option, on their best interest).This is the way to go, just give them a call and let the costumer service speak for itself.

Gil & Max are the guys you want to trust your vehicle(s) with. They perform top-notch diagnostics, present the issue in easy to understand language (they will explain in as much detail as you want), offer the pros and cons for each solution, and do the work for reasonable prices. Best of all, they 100% stand behind their work. I have had them replace the engine in my 1998 Jeep Wrangler, and they offered an unlimited mileage warranty on the motor. Have had a couple of small hiccups (not related to the engine swap), and they have gone out of their way to diagnose the issues and ensure I am a satisfied customer. They also replaced the clutch in my 1997 Toyota Tacoma and there have been ZERO issues. They do so much more than transmissions as well. If you want to buy a used car and need a trustworthy assessment, bring it to Dauntless and they will let you know if there are any "hidden" issues. If any of my cars break down, there's only one address I'm giving the tow truck driver...

We were traveling from Michigan to the Outer Banks, with a stop in the Triangle. The car started lurching on the trip down on Thursday and we did not know what to do. Called around on the Friday morning and several places said they could not fit us in. Called Dauntless and was told they were full, but he agreed to squeeze us in after hearing our story. He stayed late on a Friday afternoon for us and saved our family vacation. He also took lots of time to explain what he had done. Gil is one of the classiest mechanics you will find in the Triangle. Very knowledgeable and truly is the customer's mechanic which is the highest praise I can offer. From the time I dropped my Jeep off, until the time the last bill was paid, Dauntless Transmissions was more than I could have asked for when my entire four wheel drive went out on my Jeep. If you are experiencing drivetrain issues and you are reading this, call Gil up and you won't regret it.

This is an excellent family owned shop. As an avid DIYer, I like to do a lot of the work on my vehicles myself, but when it comes to transmissions, I'm not so versed. The first thing Max did was take the vehicle on a quick road test and then drained a small sample of the transmission fluid into a beaker and brought it out to show me. He offered several different approaches to replacing all of the fluid and gave the pros/cons of each. Gil and Kathy even gave me a ride back to my house and delivered the vehicle when done. I'd highly recommend this shop! They are transparent and up front about parts and labor, you couldn't ask for a better experience.

Gil went way above and beyond when it came to helping me find the issue with my manual transmission. Another repair shop made a mistake and he was available when i needed him and was more than willing to take pictures and even bring me back into the shop to show and explain everything clearly. After an inspection code came up indicating a transmission problem, I was referred to Dauntless by my usual mechanic. After dropping the car off, Gil called me back and told me that he found out there had been a recall on a particular sensor and that I could take it to the dealer to have it repaired free of charge. I appreciated his honesty and that he did not charge me for the time he took to inspect the vehicle and do the homework on the recall. I would definitely trust him to work on my car in the future.

Extremely satisfied with my experience with Max at Dauntless Transmissions. I hired him to do a pre-purchase inspection on a used car and he identified several issues that made me decide not to purchase the vehicle. He was polite, professional, and he emailed me copies of the hand written, extremely thorough report. Thursday before labor day my 2009 Toyota Matrix broke down an hour away from my house. I was in the middle of moving that week. I worked too early until too late to be able to call anyone Friday. On Saturday I called a local mechanic and told him what happened and they swore it was the transmission and referred me here. So I called early Saturday (which they aren't even open on Sat.) A man answered and told me to get it towed to them Tuesday. I couldn't be happier they referred me... Turns out my brakes just locked up. I'm a 23 year old female and they could have told me the transmission blew just like the other people did. He saved me over $2,000. I expected my car to be in the shop for well over a week... My car was there 2 days and the only reason it was there that long was because the parts store delivered the wrong parts. I will be coming back in the future and will be referring everyone to them. They took such good care of me, you guys have a customer for life!

Never got to use this place to fix my problem. All I needed was a new catalytic converter, charged me for unneeded and unwanted diagnostics. Over priced quotes. Went somewhere else and got the work done for a lot less and no hassles.
