My wife, our three children, and a friend and I were traveling through in our RV when our Onan generator died and stopped firing. I had the plug & coil replaced two weeks prior at Cummins in Dartmouth, NS, Canada (for way too much money - they charged me 4 hours just to take it out and put it back in, a and job that Coastal did in under 1.5 hours). They missed the bits of metal that showed the key way was sheared off and messing with the timing. That made the brand new magneto they installed fail. Coastal spotted it, fixed the key way and had us on our way. They were very professional and great at diagnosing the problem in a timely manner. I highly recommend them for generator service. (My friend is a photographer & took some photos of the work being done)

I would like to thank the Family/Staff for the extreme generosity. They have been a complete blessing and proven that there is still legitimate and compassionate companies out there not all for themselves. The whole entire team has went above and beyond during my neighbor s mishap with his brand new travel camper van. Mike as a 70+ yr. old veteran decided to purchase a camper van and head from the great lakes to florida over time. Within the same month already two things have went out/failed with this new purchase. As randomly finding Coastal Diesel to see if they could fix and or replace his generator in a timely manner this business has went above and beyond to accommodate and provide for this Veteran and his service dog for days in more ways then one. Thank you for the humanity that you offered Mike and Jobbers on their journey. I praise your business / staff for looking out for them. May God bless all of you and your business to continue to be successful for many years to come.Thank you from the bottom of my heart Sincerely, Shauna

I m fortunate that I can swing a wrench and I have a brother-in-law that was a career diesel mechanic. So, when I had diesel mixing with my oil in my marine engine, he suggested getting some service to my injectors to start. Thru referral, I called Coastal Diesel and spoke to Mike in service. He said to bring the injectors in and he ll take a look. So I removed them and brought the injectors in to Coastal. I was very impressed by the cleanliness and organized shop. To my surprise, Mike actually started testing the injectors right in front of me. He found the faulty injector and showed me the difference. I was relieved that we found the issue. Mike told me that he will service them all and have them ready in 4-5 days, which seemed fine. Two days later, he called first thing and said they were ready. Not only the service was amazing but the price was very reasonable. I installed the injectors and all is good. Thanks Mike and the good people of Coastal Diesel. I ll spread the good word for sure.

Called Coastal Diesel several months ago and needed help with a failed turbocharger. We were on on way home to Virginia and stuck in Oriental, NC. Technician came out and took pictures and stated they would give me an estimate in a few days. So after a week I called and emailed numerous times and got no response. With no other choice I installed a new turbocharger myself. Turbocharger worked great but discovered an oil line was ruptured on said turbo. Coincidentally a new Service Manger called just after that so I drove to their shop to see what the deal was. He had no idea who I was. I explained the poor service in the past and he assured me things would be different. A few days later a technician and a manager showed up. Said I had a manifold leak and a ruptured oil line. He then said I should have know about the ruptured line since he had written it up in the estimate. I stated that I never received an estimate nor could get anyone at Coastal Diesel to take my call. Stated they will send pictures and an estimate but give them a week or so. After 3 weeks nothing, not returning calls or emails. Now, today after 5 WEEKs I get a call that they are not interested in doing the work. This worthless firm has left me stuck for over two months. Be very weary in considering doing any business with this outfit

I brought a piece of equipment in for repair fully expecting the worst. Service Manager Troy checked me in and told me they would check it and give me a time line for repair. The job was completed in less that 3 work days. This machine now runs with as much power and performance as it had 20 years ago. Repair costs were so low I could not believe it, but was extreemly pleased at that .They will definitely receive a recommendation from me to my other friends that are needed repairs and service done on their diesel equipment. Thanks for the great service.

We are very disappointed. We are having generator issues and have been without power for almost a week. I called and spoke to Troy on Wednesday and he confirmed with me twice on the phone he would meet me on the 2nd (October) at 8 am and take a look at it as we currently live in our RV. We drove an hour to be here this morning and no one was here and no one would answer our calls even on the emergency line. When I finally did get ahold of someone it was Troy and he tried to blame me saying I must have misunderstood the date (even after confirming it twice) he said he was sorry but they don t work on weekends so I would have to figure something else out. I will never use this company or recommend them if I can help it. They do not hold to their word and obviously do not care about their customers or future customers. Now I am stuck an hour away from where we started, 4 days behind and still no power! Very upset is an understatement.

I sincerely want to thank Coastal Diesel for the service that they have given my family over the past 3 years for my backup generator. There were a few minor glitches during that time, but they were quick to resolve these issues. I would also like to thank Mallard Oil & LP Gas Co. for their work in concert with Coastal Diesel.

Sorry to give Coastal Diesel only one star. I took my 96 Chevy c3500 there to get my engine worked on and my quote was reasonable except when they found 2cylinders were below the range specs. I was always told the service manager would get right back but it took days to get him too. They were always late and never did what they said they would do. They quote was $4500 which jumped to 8000 to 14000 far an engine. Apparently they didn t want to mess with my truck. Very disappointed. Hope they improve their customer service. But I won t be calling them back

I was in the New Bern area for a few days in my RV. (We are full time RV travelers). I was due for an oil change on my Cummins Diesel.I stopped in to Coastal Diesel Service and talked to the owner and the service manager. Both were friendly and helpful and gave me a good price and said come by Mon or Tue around 7 AM and they would get me in and out fast.We had the RV there at 7 and they had her (the RV) in and did Engine oil and filter, Fuel oil water separator and fuel oil filter and lubed suspension all quickly and carefully and professionally. The bill was less than they quoted me. (A great and pleasant surprise).I wish I could have this place and these service people at hand wherever I am on the road. This was my best service experience with the Motor Home I've had in 12,000 miles and 11 and 1/2 months on the road.Great to find a place and crew like Coastal Diesel Service!!!!

Was at my wit's end repairing my injection pump, the technician took it apart fo r$60 while explaining what every part was and how failures can occur. Gave me two lists at my request, one was the bare minimum parts, the other was complete rebuild. I ended up paying $250 including tax for all the parts, and what I took as a classroom session in diesel mechanic school. A+ service, a+ pricing and for meeting me on a human level. I say all this as a person who drove 3 hours each way for this same day service. Thank you.

Great bunch of people to deal with. David is a top notch mechanic and troubleshooter. I'm a mechanic and he is the expert I turn to when I'm stumped on a generator repair. Bobby and Troy are very customer service oriented and always help me with my fleet of specialty vehicle generators for parts, warranty work and service.

Update June 2020: I lost the civil case today. I would not produce the mechanic. After seeing Thomas Bland s display of anger in court I could understand the mechanic s concerns for his future if his name was known. Chose your diesel service company carefully.UPDATE: May 21, 2019Coastal Diesel has not satisfied my complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The more an actual diesel mechanic and I work on the engines, the more damage we find caused by the work their mechanic performed. We found most of the copper washers in the fuel return lines missing. When I have the opportunity to question Mr. Bland, Richard, and Joe in a more formal setting, I will let them explain the problems this will cause since they are mechanics. They know that Improperly installing the fuel injectors causes a number of problems that can result in engine failure. They were relying on my ignorance of these interconnected systems to get away with what their employee did.Mr. Bland and Joe, being diesel mechanics, know the importance of fuel injectors in a diesel engine and the problems that stem from lack of maintenance. The problems I noted, and the additional problems I will note later, do not originate from maintenance issues. The problems I face result from negligent installation and improper testing of the engine on the part of a representative of Coastal Diesel. The offer of servicing the injectors, which should have been done in the first place, is an insult. Joe did not even offer to replace the copper washers their mechanic lost. Both Mr. Bland and Joe attempted to take advantage of my lack of knowledge of diesel engines by indicating the improper installation of the injectors is an isolated problem that is easily corrected and is not connected to any other problems I am facing. I have now had the opportunity to research this issue and have found the opposite is true. Any reading will show that injectors must be serviced at regular intervals and not ignored. Negligent installation is a recipe for disaster. The discount noted by Coastal Diesel has nothing to do with problems they caused with the injectors. This shows me Joe has dealt with a number of complaints against the company. He has used the red herring tactic in addressing my problem. He is trying to distract the BBB and me by attempting to divert us from the argument by introducing another topic. What has their improperly charging me, as Joe and Mr. Bland said they did, have to do with this issue? The correction on that bill addressed another lack of management and an attempt to over charge a customer. They over charged me and tried to get away with it. I objected to these charges and Mr. Bland agreed to lower the bill. That issue has nothing to do with their negligence. If I had known what they had done to my engines, I would not have paid them anything. My interaction with Coastal Diesel has exposed a pattern of deceptive business practices in my opinion that need to be exposed, and I plan to do that to help others. Mr. Bland started this company forty-one years ago. Perhaps he should look back and reflect on what allowed him to be successful to this point and return to those ideals.***UPDATE: Took off the port side head Sunday. Found three more copper spacers missing from the injectors. Found two in the engine. Still looking for the other one. Injectors not tightened correctly. In the opinion of the diesel mechanic, the injectors were not pop tested as stated. He based this on the missing spacers, the condition of the injectors, the damaged o-rings, and the incorrect installation. These injector tips are probably damaged. No way to tell unless I install them and see if they fail. Also, Over torquing some of the head bolts will not solve anything It only damages the gasket. The bolts must be torqued in the proper order.I spoke with Mr. Bland. He understood why I was not happy and wished me luck correcting this mess. He has had a similar problem with Richard with this type of work.
