Needed just a night & found this to be the sweetest, "cleanest" motel. Very quite & within walking distance to old downtown restaurants & stores. Pricing reasonable for such quaintness & nostalgia. Highly recommend & will stay here again if in area. Staff takes alot of care regardless of age on motel & no smell in room or stuffiness or odors which is very appreciated. No smoking in rooms which was wonderful & you could tell. Dark curtain for light outside & lighted porch to sit on when outside as well. Also adorable bicycles if you cared to ride & little patio area. Really enjoyed resting here. You want go wrong staying here at all.Rooms: Room, bed clean, comfortable. All rooms non smoking & you could tell. VERY pleasant & well cared for with no odors. Very updated, quaint but nostalgic astomsphere.Nearby activities: Tavern restaurants, music, antique stores.Safety: Porch lit up, not alot of rooms & traffic at motel. No trash & debris to trip over. Really comfortable place all around.Walkability: Restaurant's & stores, antique, icecream, , etc...all within walking distance.Food & drinks: Some water bottles & ice provided as well as drink machine & local/walkable restaurants.Noteworthy details: Near to town to easily eat, shop or just stroll or all three. CLEAN!!!! place.

The room very small but also very clean. Front desk staff were so very helpful. A small breakfast basket but only on the weekends. Perfectly lovely for a short stay. No laundry service so don't expect a real hotel experience. If you have to come to Murphy (which seriously why would you) this is great for a day or two. Nice restaurant across the street well within walking distance.

This motel is everything you want a motel to be. It's extremely clean. When you walk in the clean and fresh smell hits you. It's so wonderful. Then you notice the beautiful towel bundle with toiletries, fruit and muffins on the table, charming retro decor, and plenty of space for luggage. My husband and I have stayed in a lot of hotels and some extremely expensive ones that charged three times what this place does and weren't half as clean, hospitable, or welcoming. We now make it a point to come through murphy just to stay here, even coming on our honeymoon for a night. Murphy is the perfect road trip stopover simply because it is home to the sunset motel.Nearby activities: One hour from Bryson City, home of the great smoky mountain railroad.Food & drinks: Waffle King is the best breakfast spot in Murphy, served all day

Five stars is not enough. I can t say enough about how amazing our stay was. Ashley and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating to us. It is also the cleanest place I have ever stayed at and that is saying a lot because I travel often and I am very picky about where I stay. The motel was recommended to me by a friend and that is why I tried it out. I am so glad I did because it is a hidden gem. Sunset Motel is my go to place from now on when visiting the area.Rooms: The rooms and around the motel were extremely clean. I was very comfortable with my stay.Walkability: The motel is located downtown and is within walking distance to several nice restaurants.Noteworthy details: I had a personal issue while on my trip and Ashley was amazing with accommodating my situation.

This place is a simple roadside motel. It's small. It is not flashy and does not have fancy amenities. We chose to stay here as we were going to the local casino and did not need an upscale room. This place for the bill. It was the least expensive of our options. However, we have stayed in fancier hotels that were not this nice. The room itself was very clean. We had a little breakfast basket with fruit and muffins. The front desk clerk was very friendly and cheery. While this is not a place I would stay for a week long vacation, it was perfect for a weekend. It does not have a pool. It's a throwback to roadside motels from the 50s and 60s. It even has the decor to match. I wish every place I stayed on vacations was a clean as this place, as well as having a friendly a staff.

You ve heard of a diamond in the rough. Well this is definitely a diamond! Super clean room and even better staff! I had a late check in and they had everything in my room waiting on me! Bed was very comfortable. They also have an outdoor seating area with a fire pit for you to use. They make you a snack basket for when you wake up the next morning. I wish I had found this awesome diamond king time ago! Thank you Sunset motel!

I loved the hotel, but it was really cold when we stayed, so we were so looking forward to a nice hot shower...... Nope..... Extremely cold barely luke warm water both nights. I even tried around like 4am just to see if it was because everyone else was using it, nope. Still cold. I love my showers, so I couldn't believe how cold the hot water was. I let it run for several minutes to see if it would eventually get hot, nope. I was more cold getting into the shower than I was not taking one. The lady at the counter was extremely nice, but for cost, there should be hot/warm water. (Also a LOT of ants. Ants everywhere. Ants all over the walls)Rooms: Cold water. The hot water turned on just hot runs colder than Luke warm water.

Stayed one Friday night on a road trip. Room was clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Nothing funky. No noisy neighbors. Bathroom/Shower was good. This is an old 50-60 s style Motel. It s been remodeled playing up 50-60 s theme. I would recommend for a night or two in the area and would stay there again myself.I liked being able to have my classic car parked right outside the door They had comfortable outdoor furniture on the patio, a fire pit area and covered parking for cycles. Close to the Tail of the Dragon . And other great driving roads in SE TN/ NC boarder area.If I had to site downsides I think the TV stations are all internet channels. Which is unusual, but plenty to choose from and I had no issues w the signal. And, Murphy is a small town, so cafe s and places to eat close early(8pm on a Friday, except for the bars.Really good Motel. Would recommend.

Quiet, clean and comfortable. This was a great stay at really good price. This place is " retro" cool and fun. What a great surprise especially compared to a lot of the chain motels/hotels we have stayed in this past year! Front desk was very welcoming, two water bottles and a breakfast basket ready in our room upon arrival. Beds, linens were so clean and comfortable. Recommend this place highly, we loved our stay.

This is a cool hotel in Murphy, NC. It's very comfortable and extremely clean. I am also a really big fan of their showers. Their shower heads are pretty cool and have great water pressure. The beds were comfortable and, again, clean; which is so important during these weird times. The location is also perfect, you can walk to anything in Murphy from the Sunset. If you're in the Murphy area I highly suggest spending a night at the Sunset Motel. It's super cool

Not certain how this place has a 9+ rating, but it got me to give it a try.Bad choice.Shoulda stuck to Hampton, Fairfield, etc..Ants, lots of ants, stink bugs and two roaches. The bed was uncomfortable and everything is outdated.Room walls must be paper thin as we these annoying birds kept waking us up at 3-4 in the morning (obviously no fault of Sunset, but was annoying, and made me realize how bad my back was hurting from the poor mattress)The staff was very nice and polite but would not suggest or stay here again.

I was very skeptical when booking. The reviews were great, but it not being a franchised hotel I was nervous. Pulling in it has a very retro look. The lady working in the front office was super nice, had everything ready for us when we got there. We stayed in the two room suite, it was very clean, nice, and up to date! The price was SUPER GOOD especially for how nice the room was! When we left we noticed 2 days later that we had left a very sentimental necklace in the room. I called and spoke with the owner & she had the necklace in the front office, and mailed it to me at her expense the same day i called! Everyone was so sweet. I d definitely recommend this place! And anytime we re in Murphy this will definitely be our go to!

Husband & I made an impromptu getaway to the mountains & wanted a basic, reasonably price place to stay overnight but also clean. This place checked all the boxes! Between AC & ceiling fan, it was very comfortable to sleep. Since we were just sleeping & showering there was no need for all the amenities. All rooms are smoke free & pet free (service animals accepted).

Love the service and everything that you need in a motel. Its so refreshing to find staff as friendly and accommodating. The place is also spotless. Its mildly dated on the exterior, but the insides are better than the outside. Includes mini fridge, coffee starters and we even got fruit and pastries in the room on day 3. Only small complaints are the super bright lights right outside the window and the bed wasn't to my picky standards; though it was still better than other places I've paid a lot more for. I would certainly stay again and recommend to family and friends.

Great place to stay, close to downtown and some great restaurants. Not much contact with the staff however when we did they were very nice and helpful. Looking forward to our next stay in Murphy and the Sunset! Update: have stayed multiple times and I recommend you look no further for your stay in Murphy NC. Very helpful staff in everything Murphy & the surrounding area. Close to great restaurants and the river walk. Just stay already!

Nice and comfortable. Very clean. The lady that cleans the room on most days is very sweet and friendly. The owner seemed to dislike me, or maybe that's just her demeanor. I was told I would have to check out on Monday morning because they were all booked for a wedding party. I went online to see and was able to get a room. She told me someone had happened to cancel. But, the Booking.com website said they had available rooms the whole time. Also, booking.com gave me one price and the motel charged me more. They said it was a bed size difference but they still should have honored the Booking.com price. If it wasn't for these things, I might have given them 5 stars.

Pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of this hotel! The staff was sweet and she even gave us a little breakfast basket for both mornings. Parking is convenient, literally right in front of your room. Walking distance to downtown which was nice. Definitely recommend staying here!

Bed comfortable. Great location to walk into town square of Murphy, NC. Very disappointing with the amounts of Bleach and chlorox used we felt like they were burning our noses, throats. We could not get away from the smell Saturday night as it was even in the sheets and towels. The decor was not retro by most definitions, mostly old beat-up wooden furniture or plastic furniture, old microwave which was stained up, flat screen tv connection choppy like old retro antenna ones, just no bunny ears. The lobby at check-in was musty smelling. I asked the greeter at front office she said she didn't smell anything. I guess she's used to smell. I do not recommend if you have asthma, heart, shirtness of breath, sinus issues or lung problems. The room was very hard to breathe in. No, we did not ask for another room as the "no vacancy" sign was lite. This motel lodge seemed very safe and it's very quite. We did like the basket of 2 granola bars, 2 oranges. 2 bananas and 2 mini muffins and Bottled water. The lady at the desk at check in said they offer since few to no restaurants are not open on Sundays. In all our travels, this is the least stars I've ever posted but it's totally due to the terrible Bleach, chlorox smells. We recommend IF you can withstand the smell. The lady at front desk nice and welcoming. Murphy is a cute town to visit, too.
