The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It is in a beautiful area by near the lake and secluded enough that it is very quiet and peaceful. The owners were very helpful. The bathhouse was clean, and the sites were clear. We stayed at site 14 in a tent and it was by a creek, the sound of the water running was very peaceful. If by chance you need a store, there is an ingles market near by. A short drive from chimney rock state park. Very affordable rates as well. I would recommend this place.

My wife an I stayed here two weeks in April 2023. We stayed at dozens of campgrounds last year. This one was among our favorites. Truly surrounded by nature. The grounds are a bit Spartan and that s how we like it! Quiet, beautiful stream running through the grounds. Wild turkeys parade by regularly. The folks running the place are friendly the way us Texans just find natural to be around. The Popsicle lady was a hoot and we enjoyed every minute we had with her!It s a short drive to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Ollie s grocery store is on the same road a couple miles down the road so it s very convenient. We spent several days just walking around the trails and enjoying the dense woods and nature. We could hear the wind coming through the valley long before it gets to you. The stars were bright and beautiful. If y all are looking for a campsite that s got paved parking slots or the latest amenities including flat screen bathhouse this ain t that. BUT if you re looking for a real pleasant campsite far from the rat race and a place you can walk barefoot in a clear stream like a kid again this is it! You won t regret it! You re welcome!Walkability: Trails through the woods and campsites. Small lake nearby. Lots of deer and Turkey. Scenic barn across the road. Deep valley surrounded by tree covered hills.

Mr. Jim and his wife Pat always treated us with kindness. They really were great people. I vacationed here for years. Even after Mr. Jim passed away, my dad and I had an opportunity to tent camp here a few years ago. Still one of my favorite memories. Located minutes away from lake lure and all of its activities this place. Truly was a hidden gem for me.

We absolutely love this campground. Quiet, secluded and beautiful; everything you could want for a camping experience. We love pitching a tent and fishing the fully stocked pond! With the convenience of having a power plug and water at the tent sites plus the luxury of a bathhouse; you can t beat it. The individuals running this place are the nicest you ll ever come by, Laura makes you feel right at home and can answer your questions about pretty much anything!! We will continue coming here anytime we need a relaxing weekend getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Hitching Post. Campground was lovely, well-kept and really close to all the fun stuff in the area. Staff was helpful and friendly, especially Laura, AKA The Popsicle Lady, who was on hand to make sure we had everything we needed, and deliver popsicles nightly to our site. The kids were in paradise. Will stay again!

This place is a true gem! It's close to everything and yet secluded at the same time. It's perfect! The staff will go out of their way o make sure you have the most amazing time. And we can't forget mentioning Ms. Laura "the Popsicle Lady"! Our kids love going there mostly because of her! We are very picky on where we stay, and Hitching Post Campground is now a yearly spot for us (sometimes more than once a year) because we are NEVER disappointed!

We stayed 3 nights early in the season so we had the campground to ourselves. Location is great, just a mile from grocery store & a short trip to Lake Lure & Chimney Rock. We met Laura who was friendly & gave us firewood for the site. The internet was spotty but phone service worked well. The bathhouses were clean. We enjoyed the 2 ducks in the pond on our campsite #22 which gave us a nice scene. There was also a beaver or otter in the pond as well. If you re expecting glitz & glam, it may not be for you. But if you re looking for a simple, nature getaway, it s perfect. I would return if up that way again!! Thank you!!

My husband and I are on our honeymoon and found this little gem on our way to Tennessee. We are doing a Smokey mountain RV tour. They are the nicest people you will ever meet. They are getting started with the campground and making a lot of changes and trying to get their name out to make it bigger and better. They even allowed us to stay a little later since we missed hiking chimney rock state park the day before (blew a tire and got in a little later)It was definitely a memorable experience that we can talk about for yearsCan t wait to go back to see the changes they have made

Amazing campsite - I bring my car and sleep in my car at a couple of different campsites and this one was amazing. I originally had one spot, but the pond was overflowing a bit from the tropical storm that was going on that morning and my spot was starting to get some water in it and I was scared of getting my car stuck in the mud. I spoke the staff were able to move me and I was so grateful! The campsite is really nice, and the cell service is pretty decent - I don't think you'd be able to use social media a lot, but I was able to make calls, and as somebody who solo travels that's always an important aspect to my safety. The bathrooms were also very nice and very clean. If you use a wheelchair it might be a bit of a tight squeeze in the doorways to the shower stalls, and you might have to wheel through leaves and mud to get to the bathrooms, but I think it's doable (I can't say for sure, because I've never used a wheelchair, but I try to keep an eye out in case there's somebody who uses a wheelchair that is looking for a campsite). The campgrounds are about 15 minutes from Chimney Rock State Park, and there's an Ingles about 5 minutes away as well. Really lovely little spot!

I stayed here a couple weeks ago with a couple buds of mine. We were here to go climbing at Rumbling Bald. This campground is a gem, the tent sites in the back are fantastic and set back from the roads and are very quiet (You can only hear the frogs). The camp host AKA Popsicle Lady was great, she told us stories, was really friendly, and best of all gave us popsicles! I would recommend staying here, Lake lure is a really cute town, close to Ashville, and there is a grocery store really close on your way in.

Great place for a peaceful, relaxing camping experience. Staff very friendly and helpful. Glenn and Laura are wonderful hosts. Fellow campers were also very nice. Will particularly miss Mike and Tony. Wish them well. Campgroundquaint but neat and lovely with small lake, streams and trees. Best overall campground I have found in western NC. Looking forward to returning next year.

Reminded me of Sanford and son in an outdoor setting. The web site listed 15 a night for tent camping during winter months but changed the price to 20 as soon as I arrived. No bath house... porta potty only facility and is approx 1/2 mile from tent sites. Major disturbance in the middle of the night with one of the gentleman assuming the role of running the campground yelling and throwing things at his partner in the middle of the night. I felt unsafe . No phone reception nor wifi. Very disappointed.

We just returned from a wonderful stay here! This was our first time ever camping together in our camper and it couldn t have gone better! We got a sweet spot next to a little creek. Laura was super sweet on the phone and even nicer in person, we love how she passed out popsicles every night! We checked out the bath house and playground even though we wouldn t need to use them but I like including as much info as I can in my google reviews. Bath house was super clean, playground looked fun for kids, if you re tent camping just a heads up there s a rooster down the road to wake you up. We will definitely put this on our list of campgrounds to come back to!

The good: Quiet at night, clean bathhouse, people were friendly.Needs improvement: No camp store (being remodeled), have to drive to Ingles to get anything at all, facilities overall seem quite run down. Feels like you're camping in a trailer park more than a campground. When remodeling is done, I may check it out again, but I honestly couldn't recommend it now. Like I said, folks were nice, place has potential. I hope they get it turned around up here.

This private campground is convenient to Lake Lure with an Ingles grocery store right around the corner. Booking is easy online and I wound also recommend calling ahead to choose the best site for your needs. There are full hookup sites & tent sites. They also offer seasonal sites. The bath house is clean and well stocked, with easy-access shower stalls. The fishing pond is a nice bonus as well. The owner & hostess Laura the pop cycle lady are friendly & helpful. My husband is a veteran with mobility limitations & they helped my hook up my RV which was really nice. The down side is that the place is a little dated with need of a facelift. Some facilities feel a little unsafe (stairs & ramp to bath house). I did not feel safe walking my dog around to the upper end, as a family there were smoking weed & had an off leash dog that was threatening us. There are very few options in this area for short term camping, so this may be your best bet.

This is our 3rd year coming back here. Every year it gets harder to leave and can't wait till the next time we are back! If you want a comfortable and clean Campground, you found it. The grounds are kept clean and so is the bath house. There is a pond for some fishing and a playground for the kids to play around on. With a supermarket, lake lure and hiking trails minutes away, you really can't go wrong with the location. Laura has you covered after a long hot day with popsicles for everyone! I can't say enough on how happy our family is when we stay here. Thank you so much Laura and Glen for making such a home away from home for us! Can't wait to be back!

I stayed here with a group of climbers in early March, and I will be surprised if I m not back again before the year is out. I have found my home base for any time I come climb at Rumbling Bald, or generally recreate in the greater area.Being so early in the season, the bathhouse wasn t yet open (frozen pipes!), but the alternative accommodations were stocked and well-kept. Visitors have access to potable water, power, and shared shelter from the rain. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables. The location is great - Ingles is right down the road, and a nice babbling creek runs through the campground, providing some nice white noise to fall asleep to. Check-in/out was smooth as well. The Popsicle Lady (AKA Laura, the site hostess) was the true gem of my experience, though. She got to work learning all of our names on the first day, and returned each evening bearing stories, firewood, laughs and POPSICLES! Her eagerness to help us enjoy our stay, coupled with her bright personality, made her arrival each night something to look forward to - the perfect way to cap off each day of activity.I can t recommend this place enough. If you re trying to find a campsite in the Lake Lure area, you can stop looking, because this is the place for you. Peace, love, and happy trails!

We had a great weekend at the Hitching Post Campground. This quaint and peaceful campground was just what we were looking for. From the moment we checked in with Glen at the front desk we received nothing but friendly service. Laura was quick to deliver our firewood as well as a sweet treat the kids loved! The kids enjoyed playing on the playground and riding bikes around the campground. Even made some new friends on the playground! The bathhouse was always clean and well stocked. The showers had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. We were camping in our travel trailer but overall the campground had a mix of both tent campers and rv campers. Everyone camping was very respectful of quiet time. Our site was right next to the playground, which the kids loved, and our site was quite level. The location of this campground is fabulous! Ingle s supermarket and gas station just up the road and the campground is minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. So glad we found this campground and we look forward to planning another trip there!

This campground is like a hidden treasure! We travel with our 5 dogs and this place is extremely dog friendly - hills and trails and waterfalls and streams for them to play in and nice and quiet! Super friendly and welcoming staff! We will DEFINITELY be back!

Loved Laura and James, (and the older gentleman that I didn't get his name). Had a nice spot and we really enjoyed our time. I normally don't stay in campgrounds because I don't need hookups but took my Dad & girlfriend and they had everything they needed for full hookups. We had a little wildlife visit our site in the morning (a beautiful Wyndotte hen!). Close to the grocery store, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Open during 'off season' when no one else seemed to be open.

This was an awesome campground. Our family stayed Labor Day weekend camping. Laura our hostess was very kind and accommodating of everything we needed. She brought popsicles for everyone each day. Delivered fire wood to the campsites all weekend. She kept check on the campers through out the day all weekend. Bath house was well kept and clean. Kids had a playground and various other activities to do. I would definitely recommend this campground as we plan on visiting again real soon.

This campground is an amazing place, very friendly. Laura is always available to deliver your firewood, and even brings you a popsicle after a long day in town. Grounds and bathrooms are always clean and stocked. We will be returning to this site for many years.

A comfy campground that we stayed at for about a week while climbing at Rumbling Bald. It had all the amenities we needed (water, electricity, fire pit, etc.) and the hostess Laura was really friendly and made us all feel safe and welcome during our time in the area. The campground is only about a 15 minute drive to Rumbling Bald access and is right down the road from an Ingles grocery store, making this spot very convenient. It was also very reasonably priced since we stayed during the off season! Hitching Post is perfect for climbers or anyone interesting in exploring the area.

First time staying there for the weekend and we loved it! It was my kids first time ever camping and they enjoyed it. Very welcoming and relaxing environment. Made lots of good memories with fishing and just relaxing by the campfire. Laura aka The popsicle lady will come by in the evening and hand out popsicles to all guest. Yes adults included! The grounds were very clean and kept up. We will be planning more trips to this campground in the future!
