I had an ABS pump go bad on my F150. The dealership wanted $1200 just for the part. With labor, the repair would've cost almost $3000. Ridiculous. I purchased a used pump but couldn't find anyone to install it. They were the only shop in our area that was willing to do the job. It took them a couple of hours, and I was back on the road. They saved me about $2500. I couldn't thank them enough. They will be my go to mechanic from now on.

I was on vacation in OBX when my exhaust separated at the converter. It was Friday night and I leaving on Sunday. This was the only place that not only could do it on a saturday, but was so very nice to me. It made me believe there are still some good people in this world and businesses that are run by good people. I would highly recommend.Service: Exhaust

Uhl's Duals saved my vacation! My entire family drove to the Outer Banks for a week and halfway through our fun, our Honda Odyssey check engine light came on and the car stuttered BAD! I looked up transmission shops and found Uhl's Duals. They were so nice and had a bay of the garage open for out-of-towner's and started work right away. They were able to read the diagnosis code that I needed an oil pressure sensor, ordered from the store down the road and had me on my way in no time. I couldn't believe it!! If you need repair work from out of town, go here! A wonderful experience, considering we thought the van wouldn't be usable for days. I went into the shop with a busted muffler and had a 6 hour drive home, and didn't want to drive with the noise. They took a look at it and told me that they could get it fix to give them about 30 to 45 minutes. They did an amazing job and I would definitely recommend them to anyone, if I lived in the area I would use them whenever I need it any work done to my vehicles.

I was down in Corolla on vacation on Fri afternoon I took my truck to get gas and it said service charging system. Truck died at the gas station around 12pm. I called Uhl s to see if they could fix it quick I had to leave for NY the next morning. She was very helpful, ordered an alternator and new belt & battery. She said they would stay late if needed to get the repair done. Great friendly and honest people. Truck was towed to their shop at 3,20pm and repair completed by 4:40pm.Services: Electrical repair, Auto battery replacement

I'm from PA. I was an hour and a half from the beach house when the fuel pump went out in my truck. The tow truck company took me to Uhl's and I'm so glad they did. They're the most honest, down to earth people I've ever had the pleasure of being around. They fixed my truck quickly and fixed other potential issues. The price was more than fair. THE BEST SHOP EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD.After a trip to the 4 wheel drive beach in Corolla on the second to last day of my vacation, I discovered that my Jeep Grand Cherokee was stuck in 4WD Low. Panicked, I began reaching out to local shops only to learn that everyone was booked and would be closed over the weekend. I feared that I was going to be stranded in the OBX without any way to get home, but fortunately, I found Uhl's Duals and Auto Repair.The owner's were personable over the phone, and assured me that they could take my vehicle same day. After towing it to their location, Uhl's worked tirelessly to diagnose my issue, even working after hours to find the source of my problem and keeping me informed with regular phone calls. They diagnosed my vehicle with a defective transfer case motor, and despite the part being on backorder, used industry relationships to source a replacement next day. The owners of Uhl's drove over an hour to pick up the new motor, again working after hours, and had my Jeep fixed in less than 60 minutes. Despite all the extra effort, the total cost was extremely affordable and undoubtedly beat what any dealership would have charged. Uhl's got me back on the road and home safely.The owners of Uhl's care about their business. They are kind, diligent, knowledgeable, and provide better quality service than I have ever received. Needed new tires after a blow out on the way from Upstate NY to the Outer Banks. All my tires were questionable, and we still had to get home!! I found Uhl's here on Google, they had good reviews, so I gave them a play. They found a set of tires easily, quoted me a very reasonable price, and two days later, I had new tires for my trip home!If you are traveling & in a bind, these folks will help you out. I drove to the Outer Banks for vacation and started having battery problems. Every shop near the beach house was booked for days, but this place was just a bit farther, and they told me I could come right away. They repaired my car while I waited, in less than an hour, and the price was shockingly low.They were very honest.With battery trouble, a mechanic could easily try to sell you a new alternator, new battery, etc. but after tests, they identified a simple connector issue and fixed it on the spot. I drove all the way home (4 hours) with no issues, so the diagnosis was correct. Highly recommend.Services: Electrical, Battery

When I tell you I ve been here more then 20 times in a month I mean it I drive an Audi they help with any types of cars. They have years of experience some of the most amazing people they help in any way they can no matter what the problem is. If your worried about money and pricing they do not charge you out the butt like dealerships or some local auto places. I very highly recommend them this morning I was saved my tire went completely flat panicked of course but without hesitation he said don t worry we will help they definitely have saved my car and me a couple times even at last minute notice. We had our front passenger side spring snap 2 nights before our vacation was over. I called Uhl's after-hours and they were able to get the part on order and expedited shipping with it to arrive just in time for our Saturday departure deadline. They made a special trip to pick it up and had our truck on the lift just as soon as everything was in hand. We waited there with our family while they replaced everything and they had us back on the road on our way home very quickly.It is a very dis-heartening feeling to hear that snap and being so far away from home and without one's normal resources it just makes everything worse. But from the first phone call throughout the entire process Uhl's was very understanding of the urgency of this situation and they went above and beyond with the repair on the weekend. Contacted Uhl s Auto repair shop to ask about cv axle repair. The said I could purchase the part and they would replace it. I live in Newport News Va and couldn t find a replicable auto repair shop that would do the job for a reasonable rate!!!! Well Uhl s was able to replace my cv axle for an extremely reasonable rate and got the job done in 30 min . In addition they also replaced my air cabin filter. This place is Amazing as they do replicable work at a decent rate in an extremely timely manner! Customer service and mechanical experience absolutely rates a 10!!! Although I live in Va, I will be utilizing this Auto repair shop for all of my upcoming vehicle services!! Thank you again and I look forward to doing business withyou in the future!!!! Uhl's rescued us. After a fun week in the OBX, we were experiencing emergency engine trouble and we were nervous, having a long drive home ahead of us. The two things I look for in a mechanic are 1) expertise in auto repair (i.e. they know what they are doing) and 2) integrity (i.e. they are not going to take advantage of you). You get both at Uhl s. We were facing a 6 hour ride home with no A/C from the Outer Banks. I called Uhl s (after trying several other mechanics) and they were willing to take a look at the car right away. I brought it in and in the time I was trying to get an Uber, they quickly assessed the problem and fixed it in no time. I was amazed at their knowledge of every aspect of the vehicle. They are real pros. On top of that, they cleaned off some minor paint damage on the car. Finally, they were not even going to charge me because they fixed it so quickly. I insisted on paying them for their time and expertise but it is clear they will be very fair with their customers. This was the best experience I have ever had with a mechanic. I highly recommend Uhl s if you have any repair needs in this area.Service: A/C installation & repair

My wife and I, along with our 4 kids (ages 11 and under), came to The Outer Banks for our first vacation in North Carolina. We were scheduled to leave for home Saturday, September 4th. Unfortunately, on September 3rd (Friday), at about noon, we heard a noise coming from the engine of our 2010 GMC Yukon. It was a disgusting clang. Immediately, the check engine light began blinking and the truck would only limp at about 20 miles per hour. The knocking noise was unmistakable. We just blew our engine. 400 miles from home. On Labor Day weekend. My wife googled the closest auto shops in the area and luckily we were only about a mile from Uhl s Duals and Auto Repair.We rolled into the parking lot and were met by Lee Uhl. Lee looked over our truck and hooked it up to the scanner. Cylinder 6 showed a code. Lee and his father, Skip Uhl, began explaining what the noise meant. The clanging noise was from a damaged lifter. I quietly walked off to the side and called my mechanic back home. I just wanted to get a second opinion before agreeing to any engine work. My mechanic, whom I trust completely, agreed with Skip and Lee s diagnosis. He felt the job could run between $1300-1400 dollars. The biggest issue, he explained, was that most shops would not start the work until after Labor Day. That would get me the truck returned on Wednesday, September 8th, in his opinion. I thank my mechanic and returned to Lee and Skip Uhl.I agreed to get the repair completed at Uhl s. I explained to Lee and Skip that our house rental was up on Saturday and we were having difficulty locating any rentals in the Outer Banks area. Again, it was Labor Day Weekend. Skip advised that they would start working on my truck immediately. As in Friday and Saturday. I couldn t believe it, but we were so thankful.Skip went as far as to loan me his personal vehicle, an SUV large enough to fit my entire family, while the repairs were being made. We were no longer stranded, thanks to the Uhl s.Skip and Lee worked through the weekend to get our truck completed. The original lifter from cylinder 6 (remember that guy?) turned into requiring the lifters on the entire right side of the motor replaced. When I asked how much the new total would be, Skip responded same price as before. The original price Skip quoted was $1050.00. Nearly $300 less than what my mechanic would have charged for only ONE lifter. These guys replaced SIX lifters. I was astounded. I initially refused, saying that I couldn t possibly agree to pay the same price for that much more work and parts. Skip said that he should have known the truck would need all the lifters on that side done and that he wouldn t feel comfortable making me pay more. With that, my family and I were on our way. We made it all the way home safely and without a peep from the motor.I honestly felt that I was doing business with family that day. Not just the Uhl family, but members of my own family. Lee, Skip, and Darlene are the most honest mechanics I ve ever met. And I ve been blessed with a quality, trustworthy mechanic for over 13 years.We were in trouble that Friday. But the Uhl s guided us through and got us home safely.I don t just recommend this repair shop. I wholeheartedly believe these folks were sent to help us that day. You will absolutely be grateful for the work Lee, Skip, and Darlene are capable of doing. 5 stars simply isn t a high enough rating!Signed,Father of 4Service: Engine repair

I drove past two mechanic shops on the way to Uhls auto repair...and I will drive past them again if I ever need repairs while down this way.( travelling from ohio). It wasn't but 20 mins into being there that I felt like family had the shop dog in my lap.swapping stories and talking about life in general these people generally cared about who I was and where I was heading and how to safely get me there. I even overheard multiple conversations with other customers and what they said off the phone. I will tell you now they literally will scoure this earth trying to find you the best deal out there and will fix your car as if it was their grandmother's car. They thouroughly tested scanned and physically observed all problems that came up. I was even welcome to watch the process as to make sure I knew what I was paying for. I paid an extremely great price and i've been alot of places. They could have easily bought the first price they seen but no they found the deal that worked best for me in the timeframe I needed. If I felt any more welcome I would have stayed for dinner. These are the shops that fuel honest hardworking people. They put the southern in southern hospitality. I truly felt like they wanted me to pay what they would pay. Car is running great and they are very knowledgable in what they love to do and that is getting you back on the road at a price that is lowest possible. They even buffed my headlights for free since it didn't feel right letting me leave without being super safe. Thank you again to everyone there I am grateful to have met you all and hope to just stop and say hi next time.

Updated: Uhl's has completed repairs and inspections on all four different vehicles of ours now and has always been forthright, honest, and thorough. They are one of the few honest mechanics we have found in the area and family owned and operated. We had been searching for a place, like Spruill's Automotive since Randy's had to close for health reasons. If you want a mechanic that is diligent, true to his word, and truly cares about his customers, look no further than Uhl's Duals. Today, I had an emergency situation with my 98 Jeep Cherokee s brakes. I gave UHL s Auto Repair in Grandy a call, after following a suggestion from my friends. I relayed the information over the phone to them about my vehicles braking symptoms that I d been experiencing. They were very understanding, as well as prompt and took the situation seriously.
