This business does not deserve or earn your business. Both the owner and his mechanic exhibit poor communication skills, condescending behavior, and blunt and short-tempered responses to questions and challenges. You will be charged for services, parts, and fluids that you do not need or request. Furthermore, you will not receive a call letting you know that you need a specific repair or replacement and offering you the opportunity to approve such repairs or replacements. The mechanic will simply do it, assuming that it is all right and that you will pay. It was not all right when it happened to me and should not be all right with any customer. I did not pay for the services I did not authorize. Imagine seeing a bill for three times the usual amount of the price of an oil change when you arrive to pick up your vehicle, only to see that you have been charged for other services you did not request or approve, including replenishing different fluids (which is complimentary at many shops) and rotating the tires. Why would a person approve charges for rotating the tires when he didn't ask for them to be rotated? Nobody wants to be charged for services they did not request or yelled and cussed at because of a presumptuous mechanic thinking he will take advantage of a customer.

Family has been going to Becker s for over 25 years, can t speak highly enough of them. Honest and fair for their work, never going to try to pressure you for unnecessary work. Know Volvos better than anybody!

If you value honesty, integrity, friendliness, and an ability to be clearly understood when it comes to services you're requesting, then YOU SHOULD GO ELSEWHERE. These guys seem to have problems not only communicating with each other but with their customers. They don't listen and aren't willing to listen. And, when there is a problem that they caused, they lack ability to resolve things. NOBODY deserves to be DISRESPECTED especially when the customer didn't cause the problem.

There was a problem with a cylinder of my car. I got it fixed around 200 dollar ish here, and another mechanic had quoted about 800 dollars. The service was prompt.

Mr. Becker has the reputation of being one of the most knowledgeable and reliable car mechanic in Durham. One can count on him that he will fix the most serious car problems. I would not take the car to his shop for general maintenance issues. I was advised to take the car for maintenance (I.e., tire rotation, changing the car oil, etc.) next door to NTB-Nat l Tire & Battery - they are great for maintenance work and cheaper than Mr. Becker. One more tip - Mr. Becker specializes in Volvos - my favorite car, due to its reliability. He will troubleshoot any car problem he is presented with. You will not be disappointed if you take your car to Mr. Becker. I highly recommend him! I agree with other commentators/reviewers that he provides very friendly service with a big heart, too!

My 2008 Volvo and I moved to Durham a year ago. When my vehicle needed service, someone recommended Becker Automotive and I have used their services ever since. The technicians are very knowledgeable about Volvos. They have consistently done excellent work. Although I usually schedule service, I have also just stopped by when I had a problem, and they fixed the issue while I waited. They are friendly and reasonably priced.

Neil and the team are fantastic mechanics. Seems like there is no car issue that's out of their scope. I brought my Subaru for an oil change, and they have inspected the car fully, noticed that one of the transmission stances has cracked. Ordered a part, and repaired everything quickly for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend!

I have been remiss in writing about Becker Automotive. While I have been driving a Volvo since the late 1980's, I have usually taken the car back to the dealership for service. When Crown Volvo in Chapel Hill closed, I looked for an alternative to the Volvo dealerships (Cary/Raleigh).... and I have been happy ever since. Neil and his team have worked on two of my current (1992 & 2001) Volvos. Routine service/maintenance is not only when I go there. Whenever I roll in with an issue, they have expertly diagnosed the problem and usually can fix it the very same day, unless parts need to be ordered. Neil takes time to explain the problem and the alternatives for correcting the issue.One of the great things about building a relationship with Becker Automotive, is that they may notice something amiss with the car and just fix it.. it might be something as small as a missing screw or tie-down (if you drive an old Volvo, you know what I am talking about... things 'happen' over time).. or if something needs to be replaced in the near future, they will tell you. Over the years I have put my confidence in Neil and his team to keep my cars running. When it came time for a recommendation of a Volvo shop in the Boston area, they did not hesitate to do a little research and found a excellent garage for my son to use while he was away at school with the 1992 Volvo.Whatever you drive, foreign or domestic, I would wholeheartedly recommend Becker Automotive as a garage to take care of your auto.

We have been taking our Volvos to Becker Automotive for the past ten years. Neil is knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and kind. We have use his recommendations when we need a mechanic out-of-state. Neil Becker knows Volvos like no one else. He is truly a Durham treasure.

Been taking our family cars - Volvo, BMW & Toyota - for years. Reliable, honest, fair pricing, timely work and nice guys to boot. The prices are fair and work performed in a timely manner. We like to keep our cars on the road as long as possible and Becker make sure we do! Wish more businesses operated this way.

I have been bringing our family's two Volvos (a 1998 and a 2005) to Becker Automotive for years. The service has always been excellent and reasonably priced. The mechanics are very thorough. If a part is wearing out, they warn me that it will need to be replaced next time. Then there is the added value. I recently e-mailed about an occasional problem with the key of the 2005 car not turning in the ignition and Neil gave me a list of possible remedies. I mentioned that one of the seat belts was broken, so he asked me to stop by when I got off work. Finding that a penny had gotten wedged in the buckle, he took it apart, dislodged the coin, and put it back together--all free of charge. I am definitely a satisfied customer!

We have taken Volvos here for repair and maintenance and it has always been a good experience. Very honest service at a fair price. They also communicate very well. We feel very good that our vehicles are well taken care of and appreciate their honesty about what needs to be done, when, and are very transparent with pricing and often provide options. Would recommend highly.

I can not tell you how awesome Becker Automotive is with just words. Aside from being very knowledgeable of their craft, they are gentlemen who aim to serve. I recently was having issues with my car that puzzled everyone and the owner personally took the time twice to figure out the issue. He comeplely went above and beyond to respect my budget. He was originally referred by my cars pervious owner and now I understand why. He has a customer for life!

Neil Becker is an automotive wizard with a keen eye for troubleshooting and a big heart for his customers.My three cars have a combined total of over a million miles on them, thanks in large part to Neil, Frank and the crew.Honest, reliable, smart, thoughtful and caring.

Neil and his crew are awesome. A volvo mechanic is hard to find, a good one even more difficult. Neil knows more about Volvos than any mechanic I have encountered. I ALWAYS take my Volvos to Neil!

Shop around. Beckers has been recommended to me twice now. Both times their estimate has been much more than any others. Most recently I was looking to have the rear breaks (pads and rotors) done on our V50 wagon. Beckers estimate was $130 more than my previous highest estimate.

In response to Michael Young, we here at becker volvo service have no history for his vehicle when it was brought here. there was no indication of a leak, the turbo was blowing oil into the exhaust, and we were not aware of any other problems. we replace the turbo, then a week later the car returns with ( a different problem) Sorry for the bad feelings!

Best car repair in town. Sorted out problems in a pinch with my car, in an efficacious and professional manner. Also they do very well at competitive pricing, and are very honest about the why and how things need to be fixed. Very impressed.

Can't get better service than Becker. I've taken multiple vehicles here and have never been disappointed. Excellent service and the nicest people to deal with. And they won't husltle you. Honest and kind. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my repairs

These guys are fantastic. I ve called Neil a few times with problems and by the time I get to the shop he s already got the solution ready for me. Reasonably priced and great service. Another reason to check out your local independent shops.

I went to see why my lights weren t working because I just bought the car. I went to eat by the time I got back it was just a fuse, so they replaced it without charge. Trustworthy guys I would say.
