After having my transmission ruined by a transmission service at my Chevrolet dealer in Cary I took my car into AAMCO for a second opinion and quote. Steve Emerson at AAMCO Durham took his time to explain the issue and give his opinion and a quote. I had a trip planned in 2 days and SteveGave me confidence that he would be able to have me up and running in time. The price was the same as the dealership who I believe created the issue to begin with BUT they gave me a 3 year unlimited warranty vs a 12 month warranty at the dealership. I HIGHLY recommend Steve and his team for any work they perform. My thanks to Steve and AAMCO Durham for prompt, professional and friendly service. 5 Star!

I appreciated the fact that they did not charge me for a diagnostic like some do! It comforted me and my family that they had prior experience with the issue of my car! Great customer service!

I would highly recommend Aamco Transmissions Total Car care of Durham. I was reluctant to go to the Dealership when I needed my vehicle checked and serviced , however I decided to try Aamco and was thoroughly satisfied. Great Customer Service and very timely. They also kept me informed of the issues they found and their progress Steve was an absolute pleasure to work with.

Used this shop for a Ford Escape trans rebuild. Estimate and actual were faster and lower cost than dealer. I did lots of research and felt like I got a fair deal. I like that I got a 12 month warranty. Donna provides excellent communication during the process. No issues after several weeks. Would use them again.

AMCCO gave me great service with quick diagnosis and repair. They fixed mistakes my other mechanic made and my car runs better than ever! And there rates were very competitive. I felt they did all they could to get me back on the road.

They don t deserve a star but I had to to post. I brought my truck in for a transmission rebuild and replacement. 3 months to get it back, and 3 more months to bring it back in for the same issue. 1 year and 3 months later, had to bring it back. Now A year and a half later, transmission is slipping again. These guys are crooks and should be avoided at all cost. Anywhere but AAMCO

DONT GO TO THE ESTABLISHMENT.Dropped my truck off on Friday morning. They were going to look at it Friday and call me to let me know if it needed a transmission. No call on Friday. No problem with me. I understand things get busy.HOWEVER, I am one that pays attention to mileage via the Chevy Mobil app when I drop my truck off. When I looked at the mileage there was 50 more miles that it was when I dropped it off. I look at the location and my truck is in Wakefield (Wake Forest) at an apartment complex on a Sunday morning. I dropped it off in Durham at the AAMCO shop.I keep looking and Sunday for lunch they go to McDonalds in my truck and back to the apartment complex. Just an FYI>> They are closed on Saturday and Sunday.I AM PISSED at this point. So Monday morning when they open the door, I am there. I asked have you guys had a chance to look at my truck. I ask this because this gives him the opportunity to say, "We test drove it this weekend to figure out the problem".NOPE. He says we are about to pull it in and take a look this morning. I said NOPE, you can pull it around and I will be taking it and you guys will NOT be working on my truck. Front desk guy says why. After I tell him why, he says he was unaware. He also said "But we are closed on Sunday." My point exactly.STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS.

ABSOLUTELY 0 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! this has been the absolute worst experience dealing with a business in my LIFE. I started this journney on 8/22/2023 it should have been a routine Transmission Replacement. It is now 12/17/2023, I'm still waiting for my car to be repaired 3 Transmissions later. Mike and Donna at this shop are totally incompetent they absolutely know nothing about Transmissions. They are telling me I" the customer" needs to take the car elsewhere to correct their screw ups on my time and dime even though they were paid in full by the warranty company. DO NOT USE THIS AAMCO FOR ANYTHIING!!!!!! DONNA AND MIKE ARE TOTALLY not fit for this job. LAWSUIT PENDING!!!!!!!!!!

I took my truck to AAMCO to look at my transmission due to some hard shifting & the fact that the transmission temp got high after a few hours of driving on cruise control (in my case, typical daily driving hadn t caused that). Before I took it to AAMCO, I took it to somewhere else to check the fluid - they said it was clean so I should take it to a mechanic who could take the next step in diagnosing these issues. I dropped it off & the next day, they called me saying they drove the truck and confirmed all of the issues I told them about (including the trans temp getting to 250) and dirty fluid with metal shavings in it. In light of that, they recommended a full transmission replacement (+$8k).I had taken note of my mileage before and after I dropped it off with AAMCO and when I picked it up, it was within 2 miles of when I dropped it off (one estimate they gave me had the miles in & out the same, the other 2 miles more). Who s to say what, of my concerns, they actually were able to confirm in those (maybe) 2 miles, but I feel pretty strongly they just took my concerns at face value and did not actually verify them and recommended a full replacement. In light of that, I wanted to get a second opinion and took it to the dealer, two hours later, they called me and said they reset the car computer to factory and all of the issues I was having were resolved an $150*** repair .If you go to AAMCO, I highly recommend getting a second opinion before moving forward. And if possible, confirm that they actually verified the issues you re having themselves. I appreciate them taking my word for my concerns but I d prefer a mechanic to actually verify and diagnose all concerns on their own - and not to be quick to recommend a full replacement.Service: Transmission

Donna deserves employee of the year. She works hard to make sure you get the best price and always wants to make sure you re satisfied. I took my car in for the bearings and struts to be replaced and she was great at keeping me informed as to where my car was at in the repair process and worked for over an hour to price shop for parts and services. Thank you Donna and Mo!

I was towed in late night with a failed oil line. As soon as they opened I was taken in quickly, repaired and back out in about 2 hours! Bill the manger and the mechanic were polite and professional. I felt like I was treated very well. The price was very fair. IHighly recommend this shop. Thank you I am grateful to be back on the road heading home after sleeping in my car in their parking lot!Service: Transmission

The people at this company is very nice and patient, but I thought they were a little expensive so I didn't get any work done on my vehicle.

I brought my 2011 Subaru in for an oil change and asked Bill if they could look the car over and recommend any services that would be necessary in the near future. Bill carefully reviewed a folder full of service records, and took the time to explain that the work previously done on the car was in line with factory recommendations. He discussed tire replacement options, and noted that the car was in need of an alignment. He recommended the shop next door for this service, and I have been pleased with the work they have done. He also explained the life cycle of a transmission unit (very helpful to a car maintenance novice like me) as it pertained to my car, giving me an idea of work that may need to be done in the future. Thank you for your time, Bill!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Oil change

My experience was not good here I d suggest servicing your transmission before letting them tell you that you need a replacement. I replaced my sump filter, trans cooler filter, and trans fluid. it has stopped the problem for now. Took it to the AAMCO in Cary where they seemed more willing to dig into the actual problem/cause rather then just slap a 6000$ price tag on a new transmission after hooking up a machine to test the transmission while driving they found no problems and no codes. Shifted fine and all. The transmission will eventually go out with the amount of miles on it but no need to change it out without trying a little bit of maintenance first which this place didn t suggest. Nice folks but I m sure they wouldn t be so quick to condemn a transmission had it been their own. Thanks.Service: Transmission

Had my trans rebuilt a year and a half ago and it s starting to slip. I recall severe lack of communication on the two weeks it took to do the rebuild.Called yesterday since my TC started slipping, and it took about 5 times of me spelling my last name for him to finally get it right even though I speak clear and concise English.Incompetence at its best. Because of Bill I will NOT be taking my vehicle here for another rebuild at this location.I do miss the previous owners, never had a issue when they were next to the bbq Pitt on 55Service: Transmission

AAMCO came highly recommended by Firestone Complete Auto Care across the street, where I have NEVER has a single problem. While AAMCO might be a great place for more common or less subtle transmission issues, my experience with Tom at AAMCO was less than positive. I came in and gave Tom a very thorough description of my problem and he assured me that he would get to the bottom of my jerky transmission. His guys drove it around and the next day he told me that he knew "exactly" what my problem was. A few days later, after me calling a couple of times with his assurance that his guys were working on it, he let me come in to pick it up, as they had done an electronic reset. He told me that his guys drove it around and the problem was completely gone. Hooray.Brought it back a few days later after driving it...because the problem was still there. He had it for a couple more days and said that the only recommendation he had was paying another $229 for a transmission fluid flush- because my 2016 Honda Odyssey with 70K miles was due for it. Well, Honda recommends a flush at 90K- so that's not too truthful.Tom, while being a nice guy, was extremely too much- way over the top with ensuring me that he knew what was going on and that I was at the best automotive shop around and that he would ensure he fixed my problem. He did not stand by his word, which was frustrating. This was exactly the experience that frustrates my wife about automotive shops. Not coming back here again, nor am I recommending AAMCO in Durham.Service: Transmission

Service experience was ok. They fixed my transmissionI left my car Ford Fusion 2017 which had a transmission failure issue. They fixed the issue, but left my car with so many other problems. I was confused what the heck happened to the car.It took about 1-2 weeks. Which is fine.. No issues there. But, what I didn't realize then, is that a few days later I saw that my spare wheel in the trunk was gone and someone had replaced it with a tiny donut. If anyone knows about this, please return it now! Why would anyone do that! It's a unique Ford wheel. They are expensive to buy! And I cannot replace all 5 just coz one of them was stolen!

VERY DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER!!!! I have an EXTENDED WARRANTY on my car so I took my car to AAMCO 5/9/19(Thursday) due to my transmission having issues with shifting and, also, a couple other issues including car leaking coolant and overheating. I was given a call the next day asking me to give a list of issues related to my car in order of importance. Not sure why I had to list issues in order of importance. But anyway, I was in the vicinity of AAMCO so I stopped by. I was given confirmation at this time that transmission needed to be replaced. Was told that other issues would need to be diagnosed and that would take place on Monday 5/12/19. Was told that it would be necessary to complete the diagnostic test before contacting warranty company to get approval for repairs. Called Monday and was told they hadn't completed the diagnosis on the other issues because they have a mechanic who deals with cooling systems and he didn't come in but said my car would be top priority next day. Called back Tuesday 5/13, same story. He said maybe he needed to go "ruffle some feathers" in the back. I advised I had been in a rental for almost a week(over $300 for rental) and probably best to at least call and get approval for transmission work. He agreed. Called me back later and said adjuster would need to come out to do inspection before approval given. Adjuster came next day and approved repairs and said transmission should arrive 2-3 bus days. Was told repairs will take 2 days after transmission arrives. Called back today Monday 5/19/19 and was advised transmission arrived. I asked him what were the results of the diagnostic test regarding the other repairs. YOU GUESSED RIGHT. Was told diagnostic test hadn't been completed. WOW!!! Was told the the mechanic who works on cooling systems quit. Rental car almost $600 now. I will submit additional review whenever I get my car back.

Still stuck with problems that I came there with plus more problems because my car is a piece of junk said the mechanic. I guess not worth fixing but will have their hands held out for 640+ dollars plus another 290+ dollars in damages they caused.emailed owner, he never returned email. These folks really don t care. It s a shame!update: more knowledgeable about my car, nothing was ever wrong with my car, the only thing that I needed was spark plugs, hopefully the scam artist never open again! Hopefully they ll learn honest will get you far in life, surely not with a closed business

I had my car towed here after it broke down in Durham. My engine had blown Tom was very helpful every step of the way from Corresponding with my warranty ppl to staying in contact with me to let me know every detail. Even though they were not able to repair my car due to the warranty company 's refusal to pay on a technicality. Still very good service.

I took my car to get an oil change and spark plugs put in. I had my own oil, filter, and plugs. When I asked how much it would be I was told their master mechanics price every car individually. This sounded odd, but I needed it done that day and I thought how much can a service cost? I expected if they're more expensive than the $25 someone else would charge, I may end up paying $40-$50 max. About an hour or so later I got a call to let me know the labor is $100 which is completely absurd pricing for a 15 minute job. I'll never take my car to AAMCO again for anything.

I went in to have 2 u joints installed in a brand new driveline. I had all new parts and they were out and ready to install. "Oh that's at least an hour and a half job and that'll cost $150." For the record, they did not consult the "book". I wonder if they knew I have done this before at least 50 times at a previous job, if they still won have lied to me. I really tried to not say they lied, but they did. They completely understood what the situation was and how long it would take. At most, it is a 30 min job. 20 without the smoke break. I'll buy the press and do it myself for the same price. I'm not saying the next shop down the road won't rip you off, but these guys will. I think these guys have actually inspired me to make an unedited video showing how long it takes and tag this shop with their quote. If they are willing to try this for a few bucks, wait until you need a $2000 transmission.

My experience at Aamco RTP has been excellent. I had my transmission rebuilt, and am very satisfied with my customer service experience. Since having my transmission rebuilt I have trusted their services enough to have my car checked out a second time for a minor problem. I am pleased that the problem was handled fairly and honestly. I would recommend Aamco RTP to a friend and I plan to continue to service my car there in the future.

Absolutely terrible experience. Take your car anywhere else, here your garenteed to get ripped off. I brought in my 2004 Acura TSX with a transmission problem. He told me the diagnostic would be 99$ but all credit would go towards the labor. Ok no problem there. Then about 3 days later I get a call that they will have to remove the transmission to do a full diagnostic, which requires a 500$ deposit before I even get an estimate, which again will be credited towards labor...that's annoying but understanding. I gave him the deposit. Then he calls me back 3 days later saying the clutch needs to be replaced, tells me the job will cost 1300$ all together. I agree. Then he calls me 3 days later again, now my car has been in their shop for over a week for a clutch replacement. This time he tells me that my total cost is now 1900$, 500$ over his estimate, he tried to tell me this was an 11h job and it was actually more but he is cutting me a break, and I'm the only one who has ever complained. Now I'm screwed cuz I have to pay or else I don't have a car to go to work. Will be contacting my lawyer, don't make my mistake and read their fake reviews they write themselves.

Well let start off by saying that i did not know that this place operated like this. I had my Range Rover towed there because it had a hose break which caused it to smoke and run hot. They told me to leave it and they would get to it in the A.M. because they were backed up,upon returning the next day i was told the price i wasn t mad about that price it s an expensive SUV and i know that. I had the money in my pocket but then they give me this paper telling me that i need to get a lesser expensive car wow like a Honda or a Toyota really the nerve of some people just because I m a young black man with a Range Rover i think this place needs a serious Evaluation because that was money that they lost and i will not refer anyone i know there and I m talking to a lawyer about this racist actions Thanks for Nothing and give me my star back too.
