My fiance and I came to the area with the intention of finding and staying at one of the campsites on the service roads around Looking Glass rock & then hiking to Looking Glass rock. It was a Saturday in the middle of March. All my research led me to believe there were tons of sites. Given the time of year, I never imagined that we would end up driving all the service roads for nearly 5 hours & all of the sites on the service roads & all sites at the campgrounds were taken. We d come from about 2 hours away & were resigned to either drive home or sleep in our car. As a last ditch effort, I checked again for any nearby campgrounds. It was just after 9pm. To our surprise, one campground came up on the search & Google showed they were open until 10pm. I called and spoke with the sweetest lady who assured me they had plenty of beautiful sites available with great views, even had water & electricity at each site AND WiFi!! For an area with no signal outside town limits, that was a big bonus. She assured us she d be there and open until 10pm. *Important note* GPS did not lead us exactly to them. It ended just about a mile or so from them. And cell signal was on SOS mode. My fianc kept driving to look for a safe place to turn around, go back to civilization for signal to call her back for directions. He turns left into a wide driveway that winds up a hill & by sheer luck or divine intervention, I caught a quick glimpse of the campground sign with a little cute bear on it. We made it & of course as soon as we pulled into the driveway, my cell reception picked up. We drove up to the large white welcome house, and we were greeted by the kindest woman, who saved our day. I even hugged her. She may have thought I was crazy, honestly by that point, I was a little crazy. Nerves were shot. She got us all checked in, gave us a spot she assured us had beautiful views, gave us the WiFi password, we got a few bundles of firewood & she even gave a paper with a list of places in the area to check out that included directions on how to get there. She went above and beyond to make us feel safe and welcome. The site was clean, water was good, bathrooms were clean, views at night were amazing as it was clear skies. Stargazing coupled with the fire was the perfect ending to a not so great day. I can t recommend this amazing campground enough. While we didn t take advantage of them, it seemed they have a lot of great activities there for guests. The service was phenomenal. The campground was beautiful, felt like we were more in a forest setting and the sites were great. Lots of trees around the place, not just an open field with spots one right after the other. If you re coming to the area and plan to camp, do yourself a favor and go here. It might be a short 25ish minute drive away, but honestly a lot of the back road sites were even further than that. Don t waste your time. Stay here, it s amazing. Thank you so much Black Forest campground for coming to our rescue!! If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely be staying with you!

Check in was quick and easy. The young lady who helped us was extremely pleasant and efficient. She told us the best way to get to our site and following her suggestions made backing my camper very easy - otherwise I probably would have been backing up a very steep hill. The campground is very well kept and the bathhouse was neat and clean. Since we were there in the early spring and it actually snowed on us we weren't able to use the pool and other facilities. There is a small on-site store that has the basics. The location is really pleasant- very close to DuPont state forest and the little village of Cedar Mountain about a mile away has a nice taproom and restaurant. I will definitely return.

This place was above and beyond my expectations. Pool was large and so nice unfortunately we were only able to play a few minutes because it started to rain. Sites are gorgeous and they make an effort two space everybody out. We were visiting from Florida and not overly familiar with the area and she told me about waterfalls in the area that were easy to get to which I wouldn t have otherwise known about. Also it s directly by Symmes Chapel/Pretty Place. My only regret is only staying one night!

WARNING: We made reservations 3 months ago for 3 nights in this campground and had to prepay. The lady on phone did not tell me they were non-refundable! We were going to visit my sister closeby. My sister caught covid 4 days before we were to leave! I called to cancel. The lady told me then they were non-refundable! I ask her if we could apply the money to a trip in the future. She said no!! BEWARE!!!

We ve been camping here since 2010 and we wouldn t camp anywhere else up there. We love the staff and feel so at home. The campground is immaculate and they have garbage pick up at each site. We always feel very safe and the staff live on site. The Saturday pancake breakfast up at the main house is a must and if it s summertime you can t miss out on the ice cream socials! The pool is awesome and always extremely well kept. Honestly, we can t say enough good things about this place. The campsites are very wooded and natural and give you the true camping experience with all modern conveniences.

We just spent two weeks at this campground and can t say enough good things about it! Beautiful campsites, some on steep gravel road, but it s so worth it. Quiet, beautiful, clean restrooms, and the family that owns and runs it are super nice, and very helpful. We will definitely stay here again.

We've stayed twice this season (2018) already, and we'll be back. It is, wonderfully, much cooler this high on the mountain. The campground has been very quiet and peaceful both times. Wish they had more bathhouses, but they ones they have are modern and clean, you just have to walk a ways. Camp store has it ALL! Very thoughtfully stocked. You can purchase firewood here, and it's really good wood, but it's really pricey! If it were a busy weekend, the campsite density might be too close, but it's been sparsely occupied both our visits. During summer season, there is a pancake breakfast served on the porch of the main house. It's fun to meet other campers over a flap Jack. The only not so peaceful visitors were the crazy cardinals who fought with our windows all day. (and early morning).. both trips!2021 update: we've stayed here 9 wonderful visits Soo far!

We loved our stay at Black Forest Campground. We stayed on a spacious RV site. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very close to DuPont State Park with lots of walking trails, near shops (love Hiker and the Hound), plenty of places to eat going towards Greenville or Brevard, and beautiful waterfalls. Family friendly. Very nice large pool. The RV sites are the biggest sites but they are not as shady as the other sites. There was a major power outage during our stay but it wasn t the campgrounds fault. A tree had fallen on a power line and then as they were finishing another tree fell. I can do without a/c and Internet while enjoying beautiful scenery with temps in the low 70 s and 80 s. We were scheduled to go back this weekend but unfortunately had to cancel. Can t wait to visit again.

Super nice! One of the best campgrounds I've stayed at. Great facilities, roads, and welcome center. Tent sites are super close together and not very level which made for challenging cooking, and our platform did have a large rotten section which was missing a few boards.

Our campsite was private but most of the others weren't as secluded. The bathrooms & bath houses were clean every time we used them over our 4 day/3 night stay. The hostess house staff were super friendly & helpful. Our site was well taken care of & clean. We will definitely use this campground again!

I went with a buddy for a mountain bike trip, liked it so much I brought the girlfriend to hike the next weekend. Great customer service, level gravel sites, decent Wi-Fi for streaming. Great location 5 minute drive from DuPont State Forest.

We've stayed several times over the years and this family has always been hospitable and helpful. We enjoy everything this campground has to offer and hope to visit again soon. The area has alot of great outdoor areas to visit. Highly recommend this campground resort!

This campground is AWESOME! They accommodated our family (2 adults, 2 young children, and 3 dogs) and our 40' travel trailer perfectly. The campground is spread out so you're not on top of other campers. All roadways and campsites are graveled nicely, so no worries about mud. It is owner operated and they are so helpful and kind. We visited Triple Falls which is only about 10 minutes away from the campground. We also enjoyed the heated pool. Everything there was clean and well groomed. We will be back soon!

We stayed at a camping cabin. The campground location was beautiful! There is a lot to do around the area. We used the pool and had it to ourselves every morning - it was huge and clean! The owners take great care to keep a clean and well-run campground. The only negative is that there was some miscommunication with telling us the kids, including an 18 yo, could use the pool in advance of check-in. When we arrived to do that, we were not permitted. It put a hiccup in our plans and us being able to bring the kids a couple hours early was the main reason we chose the campground. After traveling 13 hours and no where near to go, we had no choice but to bring them to our meeting. However it all worked out and we would stay there again. One other thing to know is that the bathrooms are a long walk from the camping cabins and there were dogs barking all day long. I strongly feel no barking dogs should be added to their list of rules and/or the campground manners messages posted in the bathroom.

We had a great time staying here! The staff is so friendly! From the time I called to make the reservation, through the check in process each person was warm and friendly. They gave us typed directions on places to go and things to do nearby. We loved the fact they don't just let people ride through checking out the campground, it gives a sense of security plus you aren't dodging traffic when walking around. The bathhouses were clean and well kept. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because when I went to the bathhouse to shower around 5:45 AM I had about 2 minutes of warm water and then the shower went cold. My husband had the same experience in the Men's showers. Not a big enough issue for us not to go back. We will stay here again without a doubt.

Great hospitality and the bathhouses are very clean. Can't wait to come back and camp again. Neighbors dogs barked frequently during nighttime hours and kids wandered into the "adult only" tent area. Owners are quick to resolve any issue. The main house has plenty of supplies($$$) if you forgot anything.

My husband and I come every year at least a couple of times!! It is one of our favorite places to come. The staff are great!! Always so kind and helpful! They always remember my husband "Mr. Dase" when we arrive. To us its where the mountain top reaches alittle piece of heaven!

My fianc and I tent camped here on a weekday and we had a beautiful site. We walked around and all the sites were nice and wooded. The bathhouses were the cleanest I ve seen at a campground and the owners were so friendly and helpful. Would 100% recommend.

We car camped here over Memorial Day weekend. Our site was quite small and would have been challenging for anything larger. Bathrooms were clean. The wifi worked at the front office but we didn't have any luck in the campground itself. Pool was great, just wish it was a bit closer to the campsite! The staff were friendly and helpful and the little store had plenty of essentials at surprisingly reasonable prices.

An additional bathhouse closer to the furthest most side would be a super nice and welcome addition! Otherwise, this is a fantastic campground! Family and dog friendly, great staff, clean facilities and special events like ice cream social, pizza delivery runs, and a pancake breakfast! Cabins were as basic and minimal as it gets but a good deal to have a dry space with air conditioning and the security of locking up your belongings.

This is a great little camping spot not far from Dupont Park! They have a pool with full service bathrooms, several camping spots if you have a tent, and a good amount of small cabins that contain a full sized bed and a bunk bed! There is a grill right outside of the cabin where you can cook food. And there are toilets within walking distance. Sundays they provide a pancake breakfast for a small fee. Did I mention they have wifi available on site?? This is a very cute family owned business that my friend and I happened to stumble upon for our one night trip to Asheville. We wanted to do some hiking as well as catch a show in town (about 45 min to an hour away). I'll definitely be back!

My husband and I were excited to have our first camping trip. We were rained out of our original campsite. We had called a few campsites but people were booked. So we were referred to Black Forest Family Resort. When we called they were super friendly and made us feel at ease. When we arrived we checked in and the staff was amazing. Instead of packing everyone in one place they spread everyone throughout the campsites so that everyone had some privacy. The restrooms and bath house was so clean. Our site was very nice and private. We will definitely be coming back for our next vacation!!!

We stayed at a tent site. Everything was great- we got a deck site, but they were too close to other camp sites. First night we had trouble sleeping because our neighbors were too loud, and I don't believe it was on purpose. Sites were just too close. Aside from that, we had a great eclipse. Bathrooms were clean, staff was very friendly. They had a little store in the main house, which was convenient, although items were a bit pricey. The campground was at maximum capacity so it was crowded but that's not their fault- it was eclipse weekend. So glad they had electric and hot showers. Overall had a nice time.

Delightful mountain campgroundWe were visiting sights in South Carolina on a hot weekend and found this campground just across the border inNorth Carolina. It is high enough in elevation and well wooded, so it doesn t get as hot as the lower country to the south. The route to the campground from the south ascends through a gorgeous state forest. The campground staff are friendly and accommodating. The sites are nice sized, and they book people to keep empty spaces around you if possible. The restrooms and showers were quite clean and stayed so throughout our several day stay. Our young children also enjoyed the small playground. All in all it was a great place to stay. I d definitely consider coming back if we re in the area again.

A wonderful family campground clean , family operated, the bathhouse is clean, warm and well lit. Swimming pool and playground in summer ,they have movie night in the yurt during the busy season. We stayed in a camping cabin for the first time we usually get a campsite. The cabin is good size for a small family, we brought a blowup mattress to put on top of bed however, there is a rubber type mattress provided, you can rent a heater in the winter and AC is installed for summer. There are outlets for coffee maker and TV if you like. Bring a folding chair for the porch and it's perfect. We have been coming to this campground for 10 years it's great. Safety, cleanliness and a friendly environment is a must for me, this campground has all.

I stumbled across this campground and wish I had known about it sooner. I am leery of trying new places but from the first phone call to book I felt at ease. The super friendly staff actually asked me lots of questions which put my mind to ease on so many of my worries. Once I arrived to check it I was greeted with such happiness and that same friendliness. My whole weekend experience was great. I can t wait to go back.
