Stayed here for the weekend and loved it! It was quiet and peaceful. Their beach was perfect even at the end of January. Did a 90 min horse back ride for my daughter's 18 birthday. Horses are well taken care of. Gentle and perfect for all ages. Cowboy Jeremy was the best guide ever! He talked to us. Told us very stories.listen to us tell stories. I will definitely be returning in the future!! We stayed in their motel . It was clean and spacious. I like the coded doors and no key to keep up with. Everything was short walk to get too. Definitely worth coming back !

We stayed here the first week of April and absolutely loved it. If you like quiet, remote stays where you get to enjoy a natural beach, this is it. Campground was not crowded so I can t speak for what it s like in more peak season. We stayed on one of the bay sites. They were doing some construction (making improvements) but we weren t bothered by it. On the bay sites you back right up to the water which we loved. We did drive in to Beaufort and Morehead to shop and eat a couple times.

Stayed here at the end of March 2023, we stayed Thursday in the motel and Friday in the campground. The motel looks to be fully renovated. Very fresh and new feeling. The room was super clean. I really love this spot, I hope they open the restaraunt. Kind of bummed we could not get food there. The campground was great, clean showers and toilets.

Nice campground near the Ferry. Camped by the boat docs. Very few campers at this time of year. The bathrooms were very clean. I would camp here again.

This place is a hidden gem. No it doesn t have a pool; it has the sound (no waves)No it doesn t have a putt putt; it has horse back riding, kayak rentals; and a great place to fish. They even have a enclosed area for your dogs to play. The restaurant located adjacent to the campground is very tasty; friendly; and lots of fun. Thursday evening was trivia night and it was fun. The staff is super friendly. The campsites are numbered. You have to find a picnic table from a vacant site but I noticed where some tables were numbered with the site so this may change soon.Fire pits are the same way however we made and took our own. There are wild cows that come through the night it is fun to search for them( I never found any) however I did get them on a time lapse video. All the campers seemed very friendly. We will definitely be going back. Hopefully for two weeks next time. The ferry is located in close proximity to the campground that takes you to Ocracoke. We didn t go this time because we were having to much fun however a good day trip to be had!Make reservations for the horse back riding as it was booked up for our stay. The bathhouse could use fans or even a/c as it got a bit warm in there but it was definitely clean!!!We had a great stay and hope you do too.

We took an RV out here at the beginning of June and I absolutely LOVED every minute of it. You're so close to the beach. You can walk to it but we chose to drive on the beach. I dont know if there is a beach permit required, I couldn't find anything online about Cedar Island beaches. The water is shallow for a long time so its great for little kids and just sitting your chair down in the water. No worry about currents or rip tides bc its barely 2 ft deep. There is no shade in site 56, however there is a tree closer to site 50 that offers some shade. We were right on the bay, which has a great breeze. It was too windy to have the awning out. But when there isn't a breeze the bugs are super bad. The greenhead flies are also bad during this time. There are tent site near the horse stable and practically on the beach. The wild horses were right next to the tents. That was so cool to see. I did the sunrise ride with Dori and that was phenomenal. Highly recommend it. You can see the wild horses and cattle. You get to cross over a shallow channel onto another island. Make sure to bring closed toe shoes for the ride. The wifi didn't reach our area, but our phones had great service the whole time. Typical rv park with bathhouse and laundry. There is a restaurant on site that's got two pool tables inside and the food was great.

Great Place to stay. Private beach!!! Dori was fantastic. Went horse back riding on the beach - one of the best experiences we ve ever had. Did the sunset ride and just turned out we had Dori all to ourselves!!!! only draw back to the campground was the Flys!!! posting this late. we were there in early October.

Great place to spend a week on vacation. My family and I had a great time here. We loved going horseback riding on the beach. We had a great view of the sound from our site. The owners are very welcoming along with their little girl, lol! Food at Sharkys was pretty good. They had specials for each day of the week which was nice for those lazy days that we didn't wanna cook. We loved the fact you could drive on the beach without any special permits needed. As for the sites themselves! Our site was pretty leveled and power supply reached easily. The only complaint I have with the site was that the septic hookup was on wrong side of camper. It was located at our door to walk out which caused confusion for the kids as they tripped over hose several times. Septic hookup was above ground level and caused major headaches draining system. I would suggest to owners to have a better setup for drainage hookup as that was the only real issues we had. As for the water! I mean you are at the beach so prepare for that. We took plenty of water with us and never had any issues. Overall great place to stay........

We chose this campground for its location, right at the Ferry Landing to Ocracoke. The park needs a lot of work. We paid extra for a waterfront spot, but the dock looked unsafe not to mention unsightly! When we arrived, there was no one there! There is a building, but if it is the office, it is not marked. We had to drive around searching for our spot. We were near the front gate and saw many others that looked a little 'lost'. The electric and water are fine, but some people thought the water needed a filter. There was no sewer at our sight and since there was no map for the campground, so we had to search for the dump station. The roads through the camp sight are sandy and they need a little smoothing. The bathhouse looked clean and neat. The WiFi was weak. One was labeled "Driftwood Campground" so I think this park has changed names. They had a barn with horses. Someone told us they were 'rescued' wild horses, but I'm not sure about that. Would I stay here again? "Yes", but don't expect too much.

We just spent 4 days here and loved it! Staff was very friendly and helpful. New owners just took over and are doing lots of improvements. They offer horseback riding and have a great beach access. Its a hidden gem. Bring food! There is a restaurant which was good, but other than the small general store down the road there isn't much for shopping. Bring a fishing pole too! Take the ferry to Ocracoke! Make reservations for the ferry, times fill up quickly. Enjoy your visit!

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Made reservations &PAID IN FULL June 4th for July 11-13 tent site &sunrise horse ride AFTER REPEATEDLY asking about weight limit for ride, website said 2 horses can do over my weight, and being assured mine was ok, Originally planned 1 night stay, go to Shackleford banks then back to Ocracoke, but when I saw horse rides and was assured Repeatedly that I Could, made 3 night reservations cause was told they don't do rides Monday, and planned extra night in case of weather to reschedule for Wed. Was called July 13 that there was new owners and some riders left so they won't do sunrise rides so I rescheduled for same day sunset, everything still good to go. Get there July 11, no one in office, went back by hour later and they were in, checked in early so I know my site# when I got back end of day, was not given receipt, map or car tag to show I was staying there or site#. I told her then I had a ride scheduled for the next day. I'm out on Shackleford Banks and get a call at 3:45pm to tell me I'm too heavy and cancel my ride reservation, was told they wanted to lower the weight limit even more, no apologies etc. Also told they haven't done sunrise rides in a long time, but it IS STILL OFFERED RIGHT NOW on the website, and they took my reservation June 4th for it and my weight. Then they lower original weight limit even more on website the next day. Bad customer service to hook me into 3 night stay and wait a month to cancel the only reason I paid for 3 nights. No picnic tables in tent sites, some rv sites had 2 tables, tent site was a patch of grass next to bathroom and playground that didn't look like a site, person in tent next to me on 2nd night playing loud movie til 2am so I couldn't sleep, toilet seat broken, toilet paper won't come off roll except inch at a time with force turning, gross showers with open hole in floor, outside shower not working, HORRIBLE BIG CLOUDS OF MOSQUITOS, truck comes thru to spray poison for mosquitos at nite on car &tent and to breath with my asthma. Never experienced mosquitos like this on Ocracoke, outer banks or cape Lookout and I've been going for 2 week vacations for past 5 years. Also the rules in emails are stated in such a way that it comes off with a bad attitude and is off putting. Doesn't deserve to be called "rv resort" is just a place to stop and sleep, INSIDE ALL SUNDOWN HOURS. Will never stay here again. 3rd nite looked like something on fire near the stable and dumpsters but no way to call and let anyone know, just get answering machine.

It was an amazing weekend after thanksgiving. Super quiet and Sunsets and sunrises that would blow your mind. I enjoyed the entire campground and plan to go back. These are taken from my cell phone.

First, let me say that the staff and owners of the Cedar Island "Resort" and Sharkey's were really nice and helpful. On the phone, we arranged to tent camp at the RV park, and go kayaking and horseback riding. Since it was "off-season" we were told we could go anywhere that worked for us, even though we reserved a particular site. (I assume others were told the same thing since others were half on our reserved site) The weather was not cooperating, but when we asked if any rooms were available we were told no. (Remember, off-season..)Our appointment for riding was set up on Monday, only to be told that the guide would not be in until Tuesday, because it was off-season...I'm not sure if it will be different during peak season, but we may return due to the fact its next to the Ocracoke ferry and the food at Sharkeys is good.

Looking for a quiet place to park an RV or camper, and enjoy a beautiful stretch of beach, gorgeous views, the sounds of birds and horses all around you? Look no further. Now I'll be honest, we were skeptical when we first arrived. There are some rather aged and rough looking trailers that look permanent, the sites are bare minimum, and you aren't promised a picnic table or fire circle on your site. However, a very warm welcome by the owner, working water and electric, and a perfectly fine dump station, what else do you need? The campsite has a great little dog park, kids playground, kayaks to rent, horses to ride on the beach, and is a short walk to the ferry, beach, and a boat ramp. The campground was clean, and we had zero issues with noise, neighbors, or dogs. There was a wonderfully sweet and beautiful yellow lab that seemed to roam freely on the grounds ( and watching him make a wild dash into the pound to swim after the geese was an hysterical joy our first morning!), but he was completely harmless. He honestly just wanted to sniff the world, totally not interested in interacting with us at all. My only suggestion would be to drop the name resort. When folks see resort, they expect landscaping, greenery, perfectly manicured lawns. The phone message states rustic, and that's what you will get. We absolutely loved our stay there, so much so we extended our stay another night, and we will absolutely be back.

Very nice I must say. All amenities available and the view is to die for. The beach is so warm and clean and you can walk the length of a football field into the ocean and it only comes to your knees. So peaceful

quiet campground with just enough to do...or not. Kayaking, horseback riding on the beach, beautiful wide open beach on the bay. Perfect for social distancing...not crowded at all. right next to the Ocracoke Ferry.

A great stop before taking the Cedar Island ferry to Ocracoke next morning. Office is at visitor information center across ferry approach/departure pavement. Passport America discount if member.Stark site yet great opportunity to walk to the sound beach. Ponies lurk... tread carefully...Full hookups. You will want to be well prepared (black/gray tanks dumped, fresh water filled) if camping on Ocracoke as the federal campground is dry camping.

Overall a nice place to camp!New dog park and kids playground, Great views from most campsites! The water has a bad odor which needs to be fixed, there is some trash around the site/beach area. It seems like the owners are trying to fix up the whole resort which is good.

I Have camped at Cedar island 4 times. The staff are very friendly and will do anything to make the stay better. There is great beach access and has a very safe area on the beach for kids to play. There are lots of sandbars. The camp sites have plenty of space and they are reasonably priced.

Needs work and manager needs help running all the areas she is responsible for keeping up! The manager works in the restaurant serving meals, rents golf carts after filling with gas, checks in renters, takes calls about renting and keeps the water going when renters runout of water because the well cannot keep up with the demand. Not to mention the bathhouse is too dirty to use. Nightly rates are way too high for the area. No internet, not cell service, water is on and off because of the well issues and forget about even using the bathhouse! So the positive, nice beach area to the right of ferry. If you can just park in the ferry area lane, free parking, wait for the ferry or turn around.

The location is amazing, and the staff super friendly. But the new management still has some kinks to work out. We stayed in the hotel and the tub didn t drain and our TV had a constant welcome splash screen that never went away for the 3 days we were there. Also, beware of their cancellation policy, it is very punishing. But beyond that, when we tried to call and change our reservation, we must have called 25 times (not embellishing) during business hours and no one ever answered the phone. We also left messages and call back numbers and no one ever called us back. Also, the restaurant has closed, which makes getting food very challenging as the location is quite remote. Plan accordingly if you are staying at the hotel.

This is a really great little spot. This is actually a ferry terminal, but there is a beach where tent camping (w/ a bonfire) is allowed, RV camping, a bare bones economy motel, and more elaborate condos. There is a horse stable, and we heard that there are feral horses and cows in the area, but we didn't see any this trip. The ladies, a mother/daughter duo who run the place are great! Very friendly and helpful. We opted for the motel room, which is very cost effective in the winter months. Ours looked like it was recently renovated, and whoever did the work did a fantastic job! Perfect mitres, and everything is plumb. The only downside is the bathhouse. We considered doing the beach camping, but the bathhouse is at the other end of the grounds, probably about a quarter mile away. It is not heated, and the showers are in terrible condition. I would hesitate to even shower there, and if I did I would not even think about it without shower shoes.

First, making the reservation was so easy and the room was just the right price. Second, I was running late and they texted me the room number and key code. Lastly, the room was clean and neat. Looks like they renovated the room. Simple, clean and neat. The room does need a lamp on the bedside table. Other than that, fantastic. The hotel is literally next to the line to get on the ferry.Would be great if there was a small store or restaurant there to get some food.I would definitely recommend this for a night's stay. Not sure what a week there would be like.

Talk about awesome! This place has so much to offer campers who are truly interested in getting away from the hustle and bustle of resort camping. It is very secluded and rustic. It is definitely a hidden gem on the water that offers good wholesome things to do in coastal nature. We took the sunrise horseback ride on the beach with Dori and Hannah as our guides. This was one of the best experiences we've ever had ! It was breathtaking and the guides are super cool! The beach is pristine and natural with nothing added to commercialize it. Wild horses and cows roam the islands freely. It's just an amazing sight. Sites are very reasonably priced for waterfront camping with full hookups. If you are looking for night life and a party atmosphere with lots of noise, DO NOT come here. If the earth is flat, I'm pretty sure you just fall off the edge here because you are really secluded and away from the busy beach crowd. There's no waterslideor pool or arcade. Kids actually playoutside and fish from their campsite.Call Dori and make a reservation. You will not regret it !
