This place is a top-notch auto shop and office with great communication. I had no prior relationship with them but when our longtime- mechanic retired, this place was convenient to my work so I gave them a try. In both minor and major repairs, they have proven honest, trustworthy and performed good work. When there have been opportunities to make more money, without me knowing otherwise, they have provided the right info and made less and when there is more work needing to be done than originally planned, they have walked me through it so it doesn t cost more down the road and showed root causes of the problem. They ve performed admirably in every situation. Honest, trustworthy, and reliable business!

It's very hard to find an honest, reliable, competent, and affordable mechanic. It seems like you can find one or two of these things, but you can't get all of them at once. I appreciate Mike's personal attention to his customers. I appreciate that they don't upsell, but they focus on the issue at hand. My trust goes up when I see that he takes time out to ensure customer satisfaction.

My wife's Audi Q7 threw a engine light and started making a grumble on acceleration. Audi dealer couldn't see us for a week and another local repair shop that won't touch Audis recommended Mike Byers. Called and receptionist was encouraging and asked us to swing by, they'd check the code, and let us know if they could do the work. My wife stopped by today and Mike did a quick diagnosis on the code, called and spoke with me found out I had changed the plugs 2 weeks ago and then figured out one of the electeonic injection connectors was not totally seated. Took care of it, cleared the code and also noted the need to ads some air to the tires. Did it all quickly for a fair price and my wife said when I screw it up again, we have now found our new mechanic. Thank you to your awesome team. We'll be back!!!

I am another auto repair entity. After a recent repair for a customer there was an issue that arose that could have caused damage to their transmission. I was unable to look at it immediately so they brought it to Mike Byer. This was a prime and reasonable opportunity for any repair shop to upsell the customer a transmission rebuild they may not have necessarily needed (and I know ooooh so many who would have). This shop chose not to do so and gave an honest assessment and quick resolution.Says a lot about integrity and care towards their customers and their wallets. I will be forwarding business as necessary.

They were recommended by another mechanic for Volvo repair. They diagnosed an oil leak, rotated the tires, and checked the brakes at no charge! Very friendly staff.

I originally went to Mike Byer Auto at the recommendation of a close friend who had good experiences there. My experiences have been mixed at best. Twice I've had to take the vehicle back to have a repair corrected (which they did), but my most recent experience has left me no longer trusting their services! I had purchased an older vehicle with many issues, including oil and transmission leaks. When I picked up the car after the repairs were done, I noticed oil and transmission leaks.... further inspection revealed all the bolts on the oil pan and trans pan were quite loose, which I promptly tightened in less than 2 minutes (leak fixed). The power steering was also leaking and they did replace a few hoses, but when I got home noticed more leaking. Upon further inspection, I found a simple hose that hadn't been replaced and showed cracking on the inside.... I replaced that, leak solved. Finally, I was told that I needed brake pads and rotors. My inspection revealed at least 10,000 miles left on the pads and the rotors were in perfect condition. The service writer told me they only replace both pads and rotors due to problems with squeaking..... I've done most of my own brake jobs for the past 46 years and never had problems with squeaking brake afterwards!!! I know Mike will wonder why I didn't bring my vehicle back with these concerns, but honestly, if you can't get these basics right I have no desire for you to touch my vehicles again. I'll do more of my own maintenance and find another competent shop to do the things I'm not interested in doing!!!Service: General repairs & maintenance

My daughter's 2011 Honda CRV was having a vibration issue from the front end. I stopped in at Mike Breyer on the recommendation of Rich Davis from Jan Davis Tire. The service manager said she would have a technician look at it shortly (actually -- almost immediately!) I was very pleased at the explanation the tech (Willie) had after driving the car and putting it up on the rack and asking me if what he thought was wrong with the front end was the same thing I was experiencing (it was!). The said they could fix the car that afternoon and at a very fair price. (They even had a loaner for me, so I didn't have to Uber back!) So far, my daughter seems to think that this has solved her problem!Overall I am extremely satisfied! Thanks to Rich Davis for the recommendation. Folks -- your have a new customer (I have 3 cars -- all Hondas.)Service: Steering & suspension repair

I have taken my vehicles to Mike Byers for fifteen years because the folks that work for Mike are honest, trustworthy, and excellent at their work, be it mechanical, electrical, or communicating with the customer. No one has ever tried to up-sell me unnecessary repairs, the work has always been done in a timely fashion, and the price has been fair. What more could you want?Services: Brakes, Auto maintenance

Easily the best auto repair company I have ever dealt with. The people who work here are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Their work is top quality. They set realistic expectations for price/time. The turn around has been surprisingly fast. The prices are clear and fair. I have never felt over-charged or ripped off. If you're in the general Asheville area in need of auto repair, this is definitely the place to go!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, A/C installation & repair

I have been going to Mike Byer for about 8 years now. I trust them to be efficient and knowledgeable. They will tell me if something needs to be done right away or if it is something I should do in the next 6 months. I highly recommend them if you want ease of mind.

I have taken various cars to Mike Byer over a period of many years. My experience has been positive each time. I trust this business to do the right thing; I've never been disappointed. Mike and the employees are quality people who know what they're doing. On a side note, there is a nice grassy area for customers (and dogs) to wait if they don't want to be inside! I recommend this business to newcomers or long-time Asheville residents.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance, Brakes, Oil change

I don't know why they came so highly recommended. I made an appoinment for them to check the AC and dropped off the vehicle at 8am. At 130pm (5.5 hours later) I called and they said it hadn't been checked yet and it would be finished in 1 hour and they would call me. Then, 2.5 hours later I called again. They said the 1st test told them they needed to do a 2nd test but this 2nd test "might" tell them what was wrong and yes I had to pay more. I declined. I picked up the vehicle and was charged $94. The itemized receipt said $65 of it was for an oil and filter change ($25 more than what I pay at Valvoline). I'll be looking for a better mechanic.Edit: response to owner's response, never mind all the other things that I wrote about your lack of quality service. And by the way I'll go to Valvoline 9 out of 10 times. When you learn how to fix an AC give me a callEdit2- you seem to have a lot of time on your hands to give responses to reviews. I suggest you get back to work on pretending to fix people's carsServices: Electrical, Air conditioning

I towed my car to Mike and his staff at 4:15pm on a Monday, distressed with a Honda Civic that wouldn't start (broken starter). As I later found out, this job calls for 2.4 hours of labor as it's not an easy fix for an 09 Civic. Mike's shop was busy servicing other vehicles and closed within the hour during which I arrived. Mike really helped me by staying late that night to work on my car, giving me a nice loaner car to drive in the meantime, and coming in early the next morning to finish the job for me. They had it all finished up for me by mid-morning the next day--all for a reasonable price. Mike and his staff are as nice and helpful as they come.

Purchased a car from Carvana and on my son's recommendation took it to Byers for an inspection. They found the front brake rotors were warped. I contacted Carvana and they told me to have the shop call them. Set up a date for the repair which Carvana paid for. Very impressed with the service and professional staff at Mike Byers and really impressed with Carvana backing up their promise to make sure I was happy with my car. And even better the shop gave me a lender car for the day so I could get some chores done. Wow, who does that sort of thing these days. A plus all around.Service: Brakes

I cannot recommend this place enough! Everyone I spoke with was so helpful. The people that work here are obviously very caring people. On multiple occasions they have done what was best for me as a person, rather than what would have made them the most money. They took the time to explain to me what they current problem was with my car, but also what they saw for potential problems down the road so I could be prepared. They never pressured me into letting them fix it, but rather equipped me with information. I am so relieved to have found my new mechanic! I could go on and on about all the little things they did to make my car breaking down as positive of an experience as it could be. Thank you Mike Byer for having an outstanding business!

Very helpful with getting my car in to be looked at right away. I travel all over th country for work, spending about 3-6 months in each location, and find myself in Asheville NC for the Fall. I typically take my car to the dealership so then all records can be accessed no matter where I may be. My car started making rubbing noises this morning. I called the dealer and was told they were scheduled out to next week. Then I started looking around for other repair shops and kept being told the same thing, cant see it until next week. When I called Mike's they said Friday maybe Thursday(2-3 days). I said I would schedule for Thursday to hold my spot but if I found a place ghat could look at it sooner I would call to cancel. As I gave my information and went into greater detail about my problem Doug said he would get it looked at today and they had a loaner I could drive while it was being worked on. So far I am impressed with the service...to be continued... Update: they were very timely in getting back with me. My issue had self resolved and they didn't find anything wrong but did find evidence of what had more than likely occurred. Again, very courteous. I was truly blessed to have found Mike's shop. Though I won't be in the area long enough to bring all my auto needs in the future, they will have my business while I am here and hopefully this review will help you to decide to give them a try.

I have had very good experiences here. Each time I have brought in my old Jetta the work was done professionally and in a reasonable amount of time. Prices were reasonable and the guys at the front desk took the time to explain the repairs, options, etc. This is a very well run shop, I'm happy to have found them.

Highest possible recommendation for Mike Byer s Auto.We are in Asheville from out of town for an extended stay. The a/c blower motor in our F150 failed. After an email to Mike (to which he responded over a holiday weekend), he followed up with several phone calls and wedged us into what was already a full shop. Mike personally took the time to look over the vehicle and figure out the issue. When he diagnosed the problem and told me what the repair would entail, I started figuring out which friend to call to come and pick me up, and how we d sort our busy schedule here without a vehicle. I was stunned when, instead, Mike handed me the keys to a loaner car.Our repair was done later that same day at a fair price. Everything about this shop is outstanding. The shop itself is clean enough to host a church picnic. Everyone we encountered was friendly and professional. And they went out of their way to keep our trip on wheels. If I lived in Asheville, this would be my auto shop for sure.Services: Electrical repair, Electrical, Air conditioning

Mike's team has helped keep my vehicles in good working order since 1996. An excellent mechanic--one you can trust to diagnose and fix what's broken and not mess with what isn't--that's a priority for most of us. I appreciate how Mike will actually show me what's broken or leaking or needing replaced; it builds my knowledge and confidence in maintaining my vehicle. But even more--Mike is truly a decent human being. There's the time I bumped the button and locked my 6-mo-old twins in my car across the street from his shop. Mike was closing up as darkness fell, and it was starting to snow. I dashed over in bit of panic, but he just grabbed the slim jim and opened the door lock. No charge. There was the accident that crushed my front end/radiator etc.; several observers said the car was totaled. Mike volunteered to meet me at the accident site, made some calls and helped me pursue repairs AT ANOTHER SHOP rather than junking the vehicle. No charge. Lots of folks give up on a car after an accident, but the truth is, the right shop can fix almost anything. This was a Honda Odyssey that got us through young twins and family road trips and much more--with lotsa miles left thanks to years of expert care and maintenance at Mike Byer. They don't do body work though, so let me add a pitch for Silver's Auto service...which got its start fixing busted up race cars. Between these two, I'll never need another mechanic. a clean, quiet and comfortable seating area with wifi if you need to wait in his shop. Big book shelf includes kids books. This is a class-act operation, people! I recommend Mike Byer's shop 1,000%.Services: Electrical repair, Air & cabin filter replacement, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair, Brakes, Battery, Oil change

I have been a customer for nearly six years, and I have always been very pleased with the service I received at Mike Byer Auto. Things I particularly like: 1) I can trust them. Early on, I sought second opinions from family and friends who possess auto mechanic expertise, and they always said that what Mike Byer Auto recommended, or the service they performed, made very good sense, and that they clearly did not try to "pad the profits" by recommending unnecessary services. 2) They cost less than competitors. I also got estimates from other auto mechanic shops in Asheville for some of the problems I was having with my car, and Mike Beyer Auto always had the lowest prices. 3) They usually have a 'loaner car' available, especially when I would schedule an appointment. 4) They worked doggedly to figure out causes of complicated problems, often charging less than they could, considering the number of hours they put in. They like solving problems and won't give up until they determine a solution! 5) At the same time, they will promptly acknowledge if a problem is outside their scope of experience and expertise, and recommend a specialist. 6) The staff are universally polite, courteous, and informative. 7) They don't offer some of the glitzy, fancy schmancy 'look and feel' you see at some of the car dealers, but then again, they charge *much less* than the dealers. If you want to be treated like you walk on water, then go to a dealer's glitzy auto shop and pay a lot more. If you want a good old fashion auto mechanic shop, where the staff are smart and work hard, but are also easy-going and down-to-earth, I highly recommend Mike Byer Auto & Truck Repair.

Mike and his team took on a very time and labor intensive job on my 4wd truck. Transmission, transfer case, exhaust, suspension etc. had to be removed and they did an amazing job!I normally don't trust anyone to work on my vehicles but didn't want to take this job on. Mike and his team renewed my faith in mechanics and they've earned my trust.Services: Transmission, Engine repair, Air conditioning

I had the clutch & flywheel replaced on my MINI-COOPER. MINI COOPERS are not cheap to work on but I was treated fairly, received quality work, and a quick turn around. The appearance of the garage is neat and orderly and the staff is honest and up front. A good place to go for your European Car needs in my opinion They work on all cars as well.

Mike Byer September 3, 2014Mike Byer Automotive135 Coxe Ave.Asheville, NC 28801RE: AppreciationMr. Byer;Just a quick note to let you know that the urgency you demonstrated in repairing my friends Honda was greatly appreciated by all. I realize that the first morning after a holiday, with cars and trucks being towed in, your schedule was quite hectic. The fact that you and your team were able to assist a forlorn college freshman and get her car operative in short order will not soon be forgotten. I m hoping that neither of my cars ever need repair but in the event they do I would not hesitate to have them delivered to your facility. I will, with confidence, recommend your services to anyone who might need anything from windshield wiper fluid to a complete overhaul. In closing, thank you and your team again for your integrity, honesty, professionalism and for your years of service to those who have relied on your talent.Best regards,

Have been a customer of Mike's since 2008 and have had nothing but consistently successful experiences with him and his staff. In the automotive field, it's rare to find a trusted and highly experienced group of personnel who accurately troubleshoot the full variety of automotive issues, and who keep the customer's best interests a priority. His facility provides a personalized and comfortable atmosphere where the customer can feel confident in making a well informed purchasing decision. He and his associate, Sumpter, both have a way of reporting diagnostic results in a language that any customer can easily understand. In short, I would recommend anyone to Mike Byer Autoworks.
