Engine light was on for over a year. I had to go back to the BMW dealership 6 times and the light kept coming back so I tried Whalen since a friend said they were amazing. The light hasn't been back since I got my car back, I almost forgot what it was like to drive without it staring at me. Donna was amazing and she offered so much help and explained everything clearly. Everything was written down on the invoice. She also followed up to see if the light came back on.Service: Engine repair

I cannot say enough good things about John and his crew. I initially went in for a simple oil change, which is when John relayed some concerns he had about my vehicle. He explained things clearly to me and made sure I understood why he recommended the services. My brakes were replaced, which should have happened a long time ago. They also fixed the death rattle on my car, that SEVERAL other mechanics had told me wasn t fixable. Prior to meeting John, the answer I received regarding the vicious rattle my car did when driving 70+ was your dodge dart just does that. John said no way. He replaced my wheels and tires, and gave it a full alignment. The rattle is GONE, like magic. I lived with a shaky car for years!! I can drive in peace and not worry about my car falling apart, it drives so smoothly. Money well spent. I will never bring my car anywhere else now. If you are going to own a car you'd better have a team like Whalen Automotive to make your car operate at top performance for as many years as possible!At today's visit the team at Whalen's Automotive were able to totally upgrade the 20 year old headlight system on my car! It was like getting cataract surgery on my own eyes! Everything comes into view and colors are enhanced for optimal safety! I was having fuel economy issues and I went to multiple garages asking if they could fix it. Most of them said there's nothing wrong with the car. One made me waste $250 changing my spark plugs.This was the last place I wanted to try before giving up. They seemed confident they could detect the issue. I was pleasantly surprised when they called back 2 days later with the diagnosis. They managed to to figure out what was wrong with the car, when 4 other garages failed, and some just refused to look into it altogether.Service: Exhaust

A half-hour into my drive from Hoosick NY to Maryland, a loud scary noise developed from the rear wheels area. I pulled over in Troy, googled Auto Repair Near Me, and 15 minutes later my car was being diagnosed at Whelan Automotive. I was dreading what I was about to hear, when John showed me what was left of a metal guard that protects the brake assembly. It had corroded and was loose in the wheel well, scraping against the wheel. John removed the guard, charged me for 15 minutes labor, and I was on my way home! The rest of the drive was fine.I greatly appreciate the promptness, honesty, and desire to help that I experienced at Whelan Automotive. I have been using Whalen Automotive for over 20 years and it is the only shop I trust to work on my vehicles. I have had everything from simple oil changes to engine replacement done and they have never tried to get me for unnecessary or overpriced work.

I have been going to Whalen Automotive for three years now, and I continue to be impressed by them! I bring my car in regularly for oil changes, tyre rotations, and preventative maintenance. Every time, I am greeted with a smile and treated like family. They are straight-forward with what (if anything) has to be done, will let you know what needs to be done, what should be done, and what may need to be done in the future. Pricing is transparent, and there are never surprise charges. I cannot speak highly enough of them! Highly recommended!!

I feel like a trusted friend when I bring my car here. I don t get that anxious feeling I got at other places including the dealer. They re fair, friendly, super knowledgeable, do exceptional work, and keep my Honda running like a top. I haven t taken my cars to any shop but Whalen Auto since the day I was lucky to discover them.

John and his team are real professionals. My family has brought all sorts of cars to him for years and we ve always been satisfied. I ve brought them some complicated jobs and they ve handled them really well. Good old-fashioned, honest service, quality and value. John Whalen and his crew represent what we need more of in this world. Those old enough to remember, will truly enjoy their business with this company. Here you have choices and options, all are fair and up to you. I have been treated like I am the most important customer there. I know he treats all customers this way. I highly recommend John and his company, you won't be disappointed.

It is August 2020. We brought our minivan in for service and the service was great. I dropped the minivan off and asked John to tune it up and call me with a estimate. John called shortly after after looking at the vehicle and gave me a rundown of what needed to be done not only from a safety viewpoint but also from a might want to address viewpoint. His estimate was clear and precise. Fair and Honest work. No surprises. Thank you.

I have found John Whalen to be very straightforward and friendly. His staff does good work. The labor rate at his shop is considerably lower than the dealer. I am very satisfied to have Whalen Automotive as my first choice for work on my Prius.

Great service! Warm and friendly. Gives thorough overview of the car's repair and maintenance needs. Fair pricing. Helps you to determine which maintenance and repair needs are most pressing. John Whalen is an honest and knowledgable consultant to his customers, considerate to each individual's needs and situation. I highly recommend Whalen Automotive. Only detriment is the inconvenient location. It's worth it though. Plus, I was given a ride back to my home when needed.

It's vital for me to know that I have a good, reliable mechanic who can fix car malfunctions and help me maintain my car in good condition. Being able to get my snow tires on before the weather really gets bad makes me feel safe and confident on the road. I always leave feeling better for having put my car in the hands of skilled, honest experts. I'd strongly recommend Whalen's to anyone for regular maintenance, or a car emergency. This shop has become part of my "support network" -- the people and resources that we count on year in and year out.Update: Before I got my new/certified pre-owned car, I found this shop on the Car Talk website, in a list of recommended local mechanics. As the CRV aged, Whalen s came to the rescue twice for emergency fixes in one case, addressing a problem created by a defective part from a local auto parts store. I was new to the shop then, but they treated me like a valued customer with an emergency need. Whalen provides superb automotive knowledge and service. Whalen aligned and repaired my 20 yr old car to like-new condition. John can diagnose difficult car problems and stands behind his work for a fair price. Whalen provides better work than the dealers provide at a much better price.

I was traveling out of state. My car started making a terrible noise. I called and they got me right in. Took the time to explain what they thought was wrong. I was back on the road in under an hour. Super nice and affordable. If I lived near them they would definitely be my mechanics for everything!!

John and his team have taken care of our cars for 14+ years. Reasonable prices ($85 per hour for labor), great work, always willing to accommodate our schedule, friendly and warm service.They have a nice waiting area with coffee and wifi if you need to wait, or if you're close enough John is usually willing to give you a ride back while they work. Highly recommended.

Had a rather big problem with my hybrid. John and crew diagnosed then called me with a detailed explanation and quote. Fixed it up quickly and now it runs great. I love this place. I have been getting our family cars serviced at Whalen's for many, many years. Whalen's repairs our family vehicles when they go out of warranty and he does all of our routine maintenance including new tires and inspections. And - he always take a look at every used car we were considering to purchase for our kids to save us from lemons. I highly recommend Whalen's.John and his staff are knowledgeable, reliable and honest and I have always received excellent service. PS - the waiting room is clean and comfortable too!
