It's a good thing I didn't read the reviews before calling this tow company today (01/26/24), I would have missed out of a good opportunity.I was taking my son back to school in Buffalo and my minivan alternator gave up on me on interstate 86, close to Binghamton. I drove the van on the battery power to the nearest Firestone shop, they told me I will have to leave the car and come back the following day for diagnostic and possible repairs. I told I was already 2.5 hours away from home he said that was the best he could since he was short-staffed. He was kind enough to call another Firestone in the town of Vesta who promised to look at it but didn't guarantee fixing it same day.While move from the Firestone to the other, the battery totally gave up and I was stranded. I called GEICO for tow assistance, the tow company that picked the job was to arrive in 90 minutes. I was working against time cos I needed to be back home that same day and my home is about 6 hours from Buffalo. I decided to go online and call search for a towing company myself, Wilcox came up and I called and the said they will dispatch someone immediately. I went online and cancelled the roadside assistance from GEICO.About 20 minutes later, a Wilcox tow truck driven by a wonderful driver by name HUTCH came, by them I made up my mind to have to car fixed by Wilcox....While me and my boys were making arrangements of where to sleep, they called me to let me know what the problems were. I gave the permission to have the minivan fixed. Less that an hour after the first call, they called again to let me know my car was ready. Battery, alternator and the serpentine belt were all replaced. My minivan spent roughly two and a half hours at the shop. That was an amazing service. The older man that took care one me at the shop was also very professional, appreciative, and nice (I love his accent).From my experience today, I would recommend anyone to thia company. I came here to drop my review which I hardly do, and I started seeing all the negative reviews......I still don't believe it is the Wilcox I delt with today (01/26/24).

I would not recommend this company at all. My daughter's car was towed by them, 1.1 mile and was told it would be $675 for the car to be released to her.I asked if I could pay for it by credit card over the phone as I live 45 minutes away and wouldn't be able to get there before they close. He said sure but neglected to tell me there is a charge of 3% to use a credit card. Checked my bill and saw that it was almost $700!!!! Highway robbery taking advantage of a bad situation and making it worse. Remember you DON'T have to use the tow company the police call. You can request whoever you want for a tow!!!

So my car wouldn't start out of nowhere, It was just working and now telling me some "key entry error". I've tried everything!! It was Sunday, so every auto shop was closed. I had no choice but to call tow truck. The guy came looking like he's been drinking all Sunday morning. Took my car and me to this very place. Put it in neutral while lowering my car and car just slid down from an inclined flat top truck without cable holding it to slowly to bring it down slowly... went from Parking to Neutral on incline.. battery dead, breaks dont work scratched bottom on the front bumper. He told me it's all good and that he worked 25 years and everytime they do it like that!! (I've seen videos and that's not how you suppose to bring it down). Whatever! Next day. I call in the shop to ask how is it going and approximately when will they be able to take a look at my vehicle. So this Very Rude old man(I guess the owner) Almost yelling on the phone!! Saying: "I don't know anything!!, We're busy, If you don't like it Tow it away!! I will let you know when someone will look at it, I don't know if today or tomorrow etc;"I was polite, but he talked to me like I'm the lowest nobody!! Telling me that he's been doing this for 70Years!! And he will call me back. Hangs up the phone!!The worst experience ever!So I start making phone calls! Found another spot where they actually know how to talk to customers!! I was gonna pay another $125 bucks to tow it there. So I took Uber to this place and paid $139 dollars to get my keys(my car haven't been touched) I called my friend that had a jump starter and got him an Uber to get there. The jump starter was not strong enough and an Uber driver was so surprised that I'm standing there Right by an Auto service shop and they won't even help me to try to jump start my car. He drove to them and yelled out Why won't you help this guy to jump start his car!!! Uber driver was in shock!!! Had some guy come out and used his Stronger Jump starter and car Started Right Away!!! Took 3 minutes literally!!! And the Owner of this place was gonna make me wait for days!!So I canceled the second tow truck and Drove to another service shop my self!!!I explained to them exactly what happened. They were very understanding and did not promise me the same day service. But they said we will look at it later on and let you know!! They checked Alternator, Starter, and Battery!! It was a Battery issue!! That's it! It's a very expensive special battery for my vehicle, but they did all diagnostics same day. Exchanged the battery and I was good to go.While this place was gonna make me wait for days holding my car hostage without letting me know approximately When they can even look at it!! Extremely Rude old man in 70 years working there could've learned some manners, but instead would love to rip you off!! If you let him!! Disgusting experience. Do NOT Go to that place!!! They will screw you over for money while treating you like you're nobody!!Services: Battery service, Special vehicle towing

Not a fan. I called because my Jeep wouldnt start. Wouldnt give me any sort of ETA of when they would arrive, and customer service just wasnt there. My garage wanted an ETA as they were busy, I was just told "Sometime this morning" with a snicker after as if this was funny I was asking not once but multiple times. They did infact come in a timely manor however again customer service felt like I didnt matter and the only thing that mattered was the tow. I found parts of my recovery spot covers just thrown on my driveway! Check the ground after they leave!! I collected 3 different parts that were not there before hand and now have to put back on. Lucky they didnt get run over and broken as I like to keep my car in check with everything it came with. Just a shame. Should have atleast given me these pieces of my car rather than toss them on the ground in an "Oh well" style.Key Points -Did come in timely manorPoor customer serviceLeft car pieces on the ground after taking them offService: Car towing

My car was towed 2.5 miles down the road and was there for 4 hours and I was charged 350. I couldn t shift my car out of gear, so I forced into Reverse gear, turns out they punctured my oil pan and my car was in safety lock from moving anywhere! They threatened to call the cops when I tried to hold them responsible.

If I could give this place no stars I would. My son was involved in a fender bender and the police called this company to tow his car since he was a university student and did not know a tow company. I immediately called them to inquire about the tow and was not given any information about fees just that we would need to come get it. Two days later I had it towed to a collision shop and was then presented with a bill from Wilcox for $950 plus tax over $1000 for a minor accident. I was charged $85 per day for storage (never disclose that), $250 wreaker fee, $350 recovery fee, $35 gate fee, $150 tow fee talk about taking advantage of a college student this should be illegal.Service: Car towing

Terrible experience with this towing company!! It was before Christmas when my daughter had her accident. We were told by employees not to worry about anything, including waiting for the Insurance Company to issue the towing check. That is never a quick thing! My husband called many times and they said not to worry about it!! When my Mom was nice enough to take the check to them, the owner screamed at her in front of everyone there!! He told her that the check she had for the towing was basically worthless because we owed them $65.00 a day for storage!! A grand total of $1885.00!!! There's no way that we could pay that amount! We were only hoping for $200.00 towards the truck, for another business to come and pick it up. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!! They're not what they appear to be!! I agree with everyone else's comments, they're true crooks! Thanks for making our situation even worse and more upsetting!! Never should you scream at someone for helping out, especially my Mom!! Just awful!!

Been bringing my vehicles here for literally decades. They know me by name now and always squeeze me in, even last minute. Rick has taken care of my cars forever. He always calls first before performing any work, especially if something unexpected comes up, which is very rare. They treat me good and the price is always fair. Compared them to the dealership quite a couple of times and they pointed out work that didn t need to be done and come in cheaper on the other. I found my garage I can trust and this is the one for me.

My boyfriend and I were traveling from Union Springs, NY to Ormond Beach, FL ... cold... getting dark and the first snow of the season! The alternator went out about 20+ miles North of Vestal, NY. After a couple calls, we were referred to Wilcox Towing! We were treated as though we were the only people who d ever broken down! Within an hour and a half, JR was there to rescue us! A class act from beginning to being towed to their yard area, where we Ubered to a hotel for the evening! The next morning, we meet the owner, Gary, and searched the area for our mechanical needs! We were really impressed by all his team and how we were treated! As it turned out! We had to leave the RV and rented a car to come back! However, a friend of the business actually drove the RV to us with his sons and flew home! What an experience for us all! Again, a class act and so grateful for their wonderful customer service! We re so glad they were the ones who came to our rescue! Couldn t have been a better ending to our story! Laurie and Dennis!! Thank you!!

Worst experience I ve ever had. Never wanted to punch someone so bad. Charged me $850 for towing my car half a mile and holding it hostage for 5 days! Screamed at me and cursed me out multiple times. When I asked for elaboration on the price I was told either pay or get out. Not my fault you got into an accident . Made my situation so much worse. Fell behind on my rent bill and almost got evicted ! These people caused so much problems I wouldn t recommend them to my worst enemy.

Wish I could give zero stars. They keep your car hostage for days while saying you have a bill but they won't tell you how much it is so you can pay it to get your car back. They overcharge and do unapproved work on your vehicle to rack up the bill. They are so disrespectful, curse on the phone and hang up on you. Since going to Wilcox, I've heard many negative comments from coworkers and colleagues and will ensure I never use their towing or mechanical services again.

My daughters car was towed there the day before Thanksgiving. First Wilcox said it was flooded. 40 minutes later they said she needed new plugs and wires. 30 minutes after that they said her engine was blown. There's no way. They didn't even do a compression test! They were closing in a few minutes when they told her this, and said they didn't know what she owed because the guy who does their billing would be back Monday. Thursday they were closed. Friday my daughter found a new car and called Wilcox and asked that her car be towed to the dealer. They said they would try to get to it that day, but if not, it would be done Saturday. Saturday at 2:15pm she called them and the owner, Gary, answered. She had him on speaker phone and asked if they were going to tow her car to the dealer. He said she had the wrong number. She said no, you have my car and gave him the year, make and model. The guy said no, we don't have your car. She told him again, and finally he said.. oh f***, yeah, forgot about that car, but you have a balance on it. She asked what it was and he said he wouldn't know until Monday. She needed it at the dealer for her trade in, so I asked him what work did he do on it as he never called and gave us an estimate on any work, which is illegal if it was going to be over $200. He started yelling at me saying that he's been working on cars for over 50 years and I don't know anything about it. I asked if he did a compression test before he went and replaced plugs and wires. He interrupted me and asked what I said. I asked again, and he interrupted me and yelled at me again stating that he knew about cars and I didn't know what I was talking about, and then hung up on me. My daughter called Sunday and asked when the car could be towed. The person who answered didn't know anything about the car. She told him she had called multiple times and he said he had never talked to her, so she asked for his name. He replied with "Eugene. Do you need my dog tag number too"? She said sure, I'll take that, and he hung up on her. Today is Monday and the dealer she is buying her car from is going to go get her car. She went to Wilcox to pay her bill. It was $214. Also, the title that was in her car when her car died, is now missing. The envelope was there, but no title. I have reported Wilcox to Geico as we have Roadside assistance and they sent Wilcox to us. Wilcox are the rudest, most foul-mouthed, inconsiderate, disrespectful people we have ever had to deal with. When telling coworkers about this experience, they all agree to never go to Wilcox. Why are they still in business? I'm hoping Geico removes them from their list. I will be sure to continue to call them until that is done. They don't deserve the business!

These guys are crooks!! Charged $320 labor for a 20 minute fuel pump install. And BTW, the truck bed lifts so easy in easy out. Charged $200 for a 7 mile tow, back to there shop. Charged me over $100 to mount and balance four tires. Now my TPMS is broken, going to have to take it to the dealer.I don t know who to be more ticked at, them or the local that recommended them. Speaks volumes about the whole community, in my mind. Can t wait to move back home.

Liberty Mutual dispatched wilcox for my tow. After waiting an hour and a half i called wilcox to find out where my tow truck was as the eta was listed at 633 pm. The guy who answered the phone screamed at me telling me he never was dispatched because he hung up on the dispatch call. He told me he wasnt doing it and i had to take it up with my insurance company. He was rude and unprofessional. I told liberty mutual about the situation and suggested they not be affiliated with a company like this. Breaking down is stressful enough but to have this man scream and curse because i asked where my tow truck was is not ok

Gary is a God send!! My car broke down on a Sunday late afternoon during a heatwave. Called my insurance company took them over two hours to try to find someone to help me get my car and two dogs off the road in 97 degrees. I spoke to Gary he felt bad for my dogs and me. He sent his son out to pick me up who took my car to the dealer. Then he drove me to the airport to get a rental car and made sure I knew how to get back. Exceeded my expectations by tenfold! He saved my sanity and dogs lives!! If you re ever visiting the Vestal area and find yourself in a predicament with your ride call Gary!

Called to get a car towed at 9:15am today. Roy showed up in 15 minutes. At 10:30 we were towed and unloaded with a 30 minute drive time. Great tow company. Will use again.

They did a tow for one of my customers and when I was informed by the vendor that they removed parts and didnt leave them with the truck, I called in to ask what was going on. Instead of being talked to in a respectful manner, i was cursed at, spoken down to and then hung up on. I will never use them again

These people are complete idiots! No respect for paying customers! They should seriously reconsider being in this business! I am appalled by the way they conduct their business. They have decided to keep a trailer hostage so they can milk money out of my trucking company! It is unbelievable what people perceive to be acceptable behavior!

Stay far away from these crooks. They will do unauthorized work and then make you to pay a bill. Worse is I later took my truck to another shop and the so called work Wilcox did was never done. To make matters worse they are contracted by vestal police to tow vehicles so vestal police won't do anything about thier illegal practices. Crooks through and through and they give other mechanics a bad reputation. I hate to even give them one star. Reviews should have the option for a pile of dung symbol

They have no problem towing your truck and trailer and when you try to pay to get your trailer released they refuse to take your money because of course they would rather charge insurance daily ontop of your ridiculous towing charges! Please look elsewhere when searching for towing.

They towed my car, while doing punctured a hike in my oil pan. I tried to tell them what was going on and they threatened to call the cops on me. THE WORST PLACE TO GO

I dont know why people are so greedy and have a lack of communication skills when running a business but this is the customer service I received from this towing company especially around christmas time very disappointing. Rethink when looking for a towing company in this area. This is a big scam they just try to suck more money out of your insurance company and trucking companies.

My car broke down and was towed here as it was close. I have never met a group of individuals who are as rude, incompetent, and as big of scammers as these people. They will hold your vehicle hostage and then charge you storage fees. DO NOT GO THERE!!!

This racist towed my friends car Saturday, and would not tell us where he took it till Monday, then charged us 50 dollars for storing it two days. Also made us pay $500 total cash only. And he had an old blackface movie poster behind the cash register.

Please use your google browser and search for another towing company. This is definitely not the one you want to use and have to deal. They have horrible customer service and when you try to pay your bill to release a piece of equipment they choose not to allow you take it. Thanks a lot GARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick and professional, got the job done much faster than anyone would imagine, and didn't charge an arm or a leg for their outstanding service. 10/10 would recommend.
