First Security there was excellent and professional, no negative comments towards them at all. It's one thing if you mess up on paperwork, but for the clerk to give a nasty attitude when trying to ask a question so you don't mess up again, I don't care how many years you worked there, you should still be a professional and not be a disrespectful jerk, never going to Middletown DMV again, they can stick it where the sun don't shine!!!!!!

Just to change the reviews up a little, I had a perfectly fine experience here. Made an appointment in advance, arrived on time for my appointment with all requested documents, and was in and out in less than 20 minutes.

My visit to the DMV Office in Middletown was GREAT! Everyone, from the officers at the front door to representatives at the windows, was courteous, respectful and efficient. I was in and out in under 30 minutes. Although I don't need to come back, this would definitely be the spot if there was a need. I highly recommend this place and these people.

Located in a horribly place section with severely limited parking. Not much space at all to navigate through. Also if you aren t familiar with or are new to the area you ll have a hard time finding this DMV office because it s practically hidden. There former location which used to be on Dolson Avenue was much bigger had better parking lot better run facility! Never understood this boneheaded approach with incredibly small location.

What state dmv can close 30 minutes early with no signage with a reason for closure, no update on their websites, no answer on the phones, nobody to be seen inside? I needed to return plates today to and come to find out it s closed as of 3:30pm.

DMV staff great. Not fond of security. No cell phone use i can understand for phone calls however sitting waiting using cell phone to pass time should be fine.

I'm finding it hard to put into words the distain I have for this place. The one factor that's even slightly redeeming is that the clerk that I got today was nice but to get to that point first you need to deal with the "security", two glorified hall monitors who can't even do their job they say no phones inside but only half enforce that and don't allow food or drink and yet they have their own drinks. Paperwork is a nightmare and it's more or less a test to see if you trip up on your info because they know everything that SHOULD be on that paper but leave it up to you to fill it out wrong so they can penalize you for it. Interactions from this DMV alone will make me move out of Orange county before I need to go to this dump again

Ever want to know what being an inmate feels like? Take a lovely trip to this dump, met by a nasty rent a cop, searched and ordered to stand in line be quiet and stay off your phone. While waiting a cop with walk the aisles up and down closely watching and waiting for an opportunity to yell at you for peeking at your phone. The staff themselves are helpful IF you have everything done perfectly and make their job effortless but one mistake or missing document they ll instantly become stand offish and nasty. I finally switched to PA and it was a beautiful experience actually called them and they answered questions and invited me by! Even remembered me from the call. NY is a dump.

Security was efficient, friendly and professional. Same with the DMV staff. The office itself could use an upgrade. This place is busy so they should move to a more spacious place.

after waiting for 2 hours to renew my license, the person who assisted me informs me that it is not possible since the Albany office was closed for verification. therefore they would call me the next day letting me know that everything was ready to go to the office again without having to do line again. The DMV website in Middletown NY reports the hours of operation, the security guard greets me with terrible service and rudeness. not let me speak, shouldn't explain to him that he had received a call from them and he practically closed the door in my face. the DMV is a service office. Therefore, if the people who work there are bored, they don't like their work, or they don't know how to attend to the public, they should retire.

Security at the door was rude, and treated people poorly, I'm not an inmate,And I don't expect to be treated as such.

Without a doubt the WORST dmv office I have ever dealt with. No one ever answers the phone and if after trying for days they do, they give you an attitude and try to rush you off the phone. if you go into the office no one wants to do their job.Had an issue with my license which should have been resolved months ago but hasn't been, because every time I go to the office they either screw something else up and make my situation worse or, they jerk me around that there's nothing they can do and tell me to come back another day.I NEVER write reviews but today was the breaking point. Went in after receiving a voicemail from the office with explicit instructions on what they needed from me, the woman at the window along with her supervisor both refused to help me, once again insisted there is nothing they could do and outright refused to listen to the voicemail I'd received that would have clarified the issue for them. Was sent on my way and told I'd be called back.. for about the 10th time. I've been without a license and been trying to resolve this for almost 6 months at this point because this office can't get its act together..if you can go somewhere else do so. Not a single redeeming quality about this DMV office. It's every stereotype about the DMV rolled into one dumpsterfire.

I went in expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised! The security was a bit rough getting in but the person processing my information wes very nice. I highly recommend using the NY state DMV website to verify you have all the documents you need for what you are there to accomplish. Schedule an appointment before going!

Quick service, everyone is always very pleasant from DMV staff to security officers (who are very knowledgeable). Their processing system works although today was quite a slow day before a storm. I was in and out in 19 minutes and that included completing an application.

Not that often you get a happy attending person. Today was a good day the attending Agent was very calm and assisted me fully.

Make an appointment, but still be prepared to wait 10-15 min to get your ticket. Having the appointment though jumps you quicker through the intimidating walk in queue, though. Also, if you have access to a printer, DEFINITELY fill out forms ahead of time. It really smooths the experience.

After waiting outside in the rain for about 10 minutes it came to my attention from the other patrons waiting as well that at least 4 of us all had the same appointment time. After checking in I was called up to the window were I was kindly greated and immediately realized that I had a very fast and efficient worker for which I am truly grateful! The transactions went smoothly and fast! I wasn't inside for even 15 minutes! It was wonderful!

Made an appointment online to visit today to transfer liscense plates over. We didn't know this until the security person told us, but we were in the walk in lines at first, and we went over the the appointment line. highly suggest one makes an appointment and be prepared, especially if one has to work. like in my instance i can now go to work at 2 as planned. went in there, they highly advise to turn cell phones off, but i bet some still keep theirs on vibrate. Anyways, went up to the first window. person seemed a little rude and sometimes it is hard to hear when one is wearing a mask. (side note too: i wear hearing aids and can use an app that has a mask feature, so if i was by myself, i would need my phone!) Since we were about the 1st ones in, we were served right away. Off to window 8 we go, and this person seemed nicer and more happier. went through the transaction smoothly. Everything went well. Thanks!

Giving this place a 5 star review. Originally 1 start and a lot of shot talking because I myself missed my appointment.

Say what you will but I have always had a nice experience at the Middletown DMV. I never have to wait longer than 30-40 minutes.

Everything went relatively smoothly. Had an appointment, was in and out in about 30 minutes. Only real complaint is the acoustics. Hard to hear though the clerks so close together and everyone overcompensating for masks by speaking louder instead of more clearly

Took three days to answer the phone. Four different employees confirmed that I had the correct information and everything I needed including the woman at the ticket window yet when I was called for my turn was told i couldn't do what i was there for. I came to Middletown all the way from Port Jervis with my two children which is why I spent so long to call and confirmed everything multiple times before I even came in.

There was a little confusion at the door. There were people on line either with no appointment or half an hour to 45 minutes early. No social distancing but people wore a facing covering. When you reach the door, there is a sign that tells the visitors No Cell Phones Allowed Inside. This should be posted on the website. It is difficult to return to your car to leave your cellphone.Once inside, it was convenient and easy. The staff was friendly and polite. You must double check you have all the necessary documents and arrive no more than 10 minutes early. They do take your temperature, wand your pockets and search your pocket. All done very professionally.Good experience and very little wait.

This department of motor vehicles needs lots of help, nobody expects it to be easy we do know it s Motor vehicles, but when your handed the wrong forms from the clowns at the front door and have to go back again because the forms we re not for me it s a little upsetting and then then they tell you to go to Goshen because you got the wrong forms after asking them twice if they were the right forms.

The first lady was nice, but the fat little white lady sitting in the room where you took the test was so mean need to work on her people skills

the staff is SO rude, particularly security. They act like you re there just to waste their time or something. If you ask a question or ask them to help explain the process in any way they act like you re stupid and get incredibly impatient, even when you come prepared with all the forms filled out and an appointment made online. Ive had to come on multiple occasions now for the same issue and not only has it still not been resolved, but you also have to deal with attitude everytime you re there. If I could give them less than one star I would. Avoid this place at all costs, save yourself the trouble and just go to the newburgh location.

It's great the guard held the door for me because I'm disabled and the associate was very politeI was waiting for only a couple of minutes.

Although they were short staffed and dealing with long lines of walk-ins and appointments, all DMV folks were pleasant and efficient. The security guards were apologetic for the wait times. The DMV lady who took care of me was exceptionally kind, pleasant, and efficient. I wish I had noted her name...the kindness and efficiency threw me off!I left there thinking I should bring them all coffee or something...trapped in those small spaces for hours dealing with an endless onslaught of customers...someone at DMV should give them a break! Right now, only two Orange County DMV offices allow in person transactions-it overwhelms these folks!

My mom and I stood in line for over 2 hours trying to get inside for a new id card. The officer that was at the door he was extremely rude. The none appointment line was from 9am-3pm he didn't even look in our direction to let any of us in. After standing so long trying to get in we had to leave due to the fact I had to get my daughter from the school bus. They should have appointments only if they are not trying to get us any assistance.
