A+++. Brought my sons used VW in to have them look at the some suspension/steering components, which the local VW dealer said were breaking down, and needed to be repaired. Folks at Autoworks confirmed. Fine. But, then the big moment. Autoworks wrote up a quote for the repair that was <50% of what said local VW dealer wanted (if you're in Ithaca, you know who that is...). Sure, Autoworks didn't use OEM parts, but 9/10 times that's not worth paying more for (and that alone isn't the reason for the price difference). Moreover, Autoworks kept me informed each step of the way, did a thorough and careful job, and had the car back to me in a timely fashion. Couldn't have had a better experience.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.I took a car for a pre-purchase inspection. After they looked at the car, they said that the engine required an additional inspection. All good there. The whole thing took 2 hours but they charged 2 hours and 30 minutes (around $40 more than I was supposed to pay). I asked why were they charging me extra and they told me that looking at the engine has a fixed price (when the clerk previously said that they charge by the hour). I already spent a lot of time waiting for the inspection so I decided to come back to work instead of argue. It sucks that you cannot trust people to be honest. Additionally, they didn't even realize that the speedometer wasn't working, something that I knew beforehand and I had to point out myself. What's the point of charging so much if you do not take the time to do the inspection correctly. I am very dissapointed.

Very Shady I Would Stay AwayThey wanted to charge my girlfriend $300 to replace one rear taillight bulb. $10 bulb. Job that doesn't even take 30 minutes. How do you get the rest in labor. Also tried to upsell repairs that was not needed. Look at all the one star reviews not a good place at all.

Unfortunately the staff that George hires isn't as professional as George is. Hes a good guy but a few of the staff are unbelievable. I think he tries to hire people that are lacking direction and give them a chance or something. I've had a few occasions that were not good and its all due to poor attitude, not poor service.

In short: Quick, affordable, quality service that goes above and beyond.I had some body repair work done. Scheduling was great--I had an accurate, reasonable quote within hours of calling, an appointment for the next week, and got my car back in 2 days. The repair was satisfactory, with good fit. Paint didn't match 100% but is close enough for me (difficult color, original paint is 4 years old, they used the right process). Mike and the team surprised me by going above and beyond to walk around and touch up all the paint, as well as do a very thorough exterior and interior cleaning. I never expected such a great repair experience--thank you!

I have been doing business with Autoworks for years, both with their repair and body shops. They have always been professional, courteous and fair. John at the counter takes the time to explain things and tells you what repairs are critical, and what ones can be pushed off till another time. never had a problem. a local gem

I've been taking my car here for the last 4 years. My car is a 2012 for escape that has 170k miles on it. As a student I didn't want to be taken advantage of but also need a reliable car. They have always done fantastic maintenance work and made customized recommendations that never felt like upselling. When discussed with family members that are mechanics they usually agreed with the degree of importance given to the recommendation and they thought the price was reasonable. They have always been very open and honest.Services: Steering & suspension repair, Auto engine diagnostic, Oil change

I will definitely be back for any car needs! This is due to the great customer service that was provided to me today. I was able to ask questions regarding car services and felt that the information given was very informational and helpful! I felt comfortable asking all my questions about car services/maintenance since I am not knowledgeable in this area. I appreciate the service that was provided to me and definitely recommend this company.I received quick and efficient services and the prices are very reasonable as well! Thank you Autoworks!Service: Tires

1) I recently brought in my Mercedes Sprinter because an ABS sensor went out generating a cascade of engine error messages. I also needed an alignment and specified that my four tires should be balanced. Autoworks billled me $1.8 hours to do the engine diagnostic (something I'd done in 5 minutes using my Mercedes diagnostic kit) and then charged me 2 hours to install the new $249 ABS part; a total of 3.8 hours labour at $90 per hours. When I picked up the van they told me they were unable to align the vehicle (they had said they could) and never bothered to balance the four wheels. I was out a total of $667.40 for this extremely expensive repair.2) While picking up the vehicle I asked about two minor body work issues. The body shop quoted me $8-900 and when I asked to schedule the work, the manager said I'm going to quote you "$1,000 just to be sure". I had the work done elsewhere for $500.I can't speak to the quality of Autoworks work, but I can speak to their obscenely high pricing for "labor". Will never go there again!Service: Electrical

Went to get tires & alignment my car needed a $20 part to complete the job instead of telling me that they completed half the alignment and said the front caster cant be adjusted (the only reason I needed alignment) when it can. Would think a shop would order a part or at least communicate with the customer if a part is needed.

While I am more than pleased with how my car was returned to me, I am disappointed in the extremely poor communication. I live well over an hour from this shop and this was one suggested by my insurance (Geico) and was the closest one I could travel to. Method of communication with this shop is through an automated texting service. I was told Wednesday March 22nd my car would be complete and that if they encountered any delays I would be contacted. I called that day and asked if I could get my car, I was told no, that it was just going into paint. I explained I work almost 10 hour work days and do not clock out until 6pm and have a hard time getting out early/getting time off. Was told to call Friday and double check. Friday rolls around, my car still is not done. I wasn t given any update between Wednesday and Friday. I was told to come in the following Monday. I called and explained I could only leave my job at 5pm and get there by 6 and that I would be met there to pay after hours and take my car home. I make the 1 hour drive to get my car and he had already left despite telling me this day would be okay for pickup. I waited almost an hour for him to get back and get this order closed out.I understand delays happen and the working world is severely understaffed; I work in vet med. I would ve appreciated a more effective approach to communication to clients on their vehicle status.Services: Painting, Body & Trim

Extremely unhappy with their service and I highly recommend you avoid their shop. I took my car in for a clutch replacement, which is a big job. Made an appointment for early morning on a Tuesday hoping they could do it in a day but aware that it might not be ready until Wednesday. This was what they told me to expect. They didn't even start on it until Thursday afternoon, and it wasn't ready until the following Monday. I'm really not sure what the word "appointment" means to them....When I finally got the car back, the steering was out of alignment. This is because the ball joint has to be removed and later reinstalled during the clutch repair. The car had been fine before I brought it in but after I got it back the steering wheel didn't point straight ahead when driving in a straight line. I called them and the owner denied that it was possible to re-assemble the ball joint wrong and alter the alignment because it is held in with a single bolt. In fact it is held in with three bolts holding a sliding plate and you have to mark the location of the plate before removing the bolts, and take care to put it back in the exact same place. This is common knowledge to mechanics. The owner refused to look this up in service manuals, or to simply look at the ball joint to confirm his mistake.Eventually they agreed to fix the alignment, I brought the car in, waited while it was done, and when they said it was done I test drove it and it was still misaligned. They continued to assert that it was impossible for them to have messed it up in the first place, refused to test drive the car themselves to confirm it was still misaligned, and then openly accused me of trying to gyp them out of a free alignment. I lost more wages (I had to take time off from work every time I went there) than an alignment is even worth. They refused to do the alignment again, saying I would have to make another appointment and bring it in again the following week because they were too busy.In short, they kept my car five days longer than expected because they made scheduling errors, they did the work improperly, they refused to promptly fix their work, and they accused me of trying to rip them off. I lost hundreds of dollars in lost wages and Uber expenses because of the delays and repeat visits, and they never did remedy the work. I had the alignment done by a reliable shop later, and just took the loss. They were unreliable, incompetent, dishonest, and insulting to me and I would never consider ever having any work done there again.Service: Transmission repair

Ron & Sharon BestWe have been customers with AUTOWORKS for 20 plus years. At first, we thought their prices were high, but in time and understanding for good quality work, it s worth the cost. We have used different aspects of their business, such as the body dept., transmission, engine shop, and towing department. They always give us detailed information about the repair and the cost. They always strive to make sure our vehicles were ready, so we could make any appointments that we had scheduled. The courtesy ride is an added plus; all in all, the owner has always been fair with us and has an excellent team.Services: Transmission, Electrical repair, Exhaust, Tires, Steering & suspension repair, Painting, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair, Auto detailing, Wheel alignment, Brakes, Auto interior vacuuming, Battery

The body shop team at AutoWorks lead by Mike Lane are meticulous, professional and friendly. The the only thing they do better than restoring your car to new, is their customer service. They keep you up to date on where you are in the process and have no problem answering questions. I really enjoyed working with them and would highly recommend Mike and his amazing team!

Do not bring your car here. They are slow, write down too many hours and are not even cheap. Furthermore, they cannot fix many things. They will also not talk honestly with you and do not even admit and excuse about mistakes on their behalf. Moreover, they will not identify the problems you brought the car in but just fix other things first, you pay them for that, they will identify more issues later on. If they had honestly communicated, we would not have repaired our car at all. Just bring your car to a more trustworthy original dealer, that has experience with your type of car.Services: Electrical repair, Exhaust, Tires, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Car towing, Brakes, Auto interior vacuuming, Battery

Had tires from Tire Rack delivered here as they were listed as an authorized local installer. My wife had the car at the appt on time, and after an hour, they refused to put the tires on unless they did a front end alignment. They basically held the car hostage until she agreed to this upsell, taking advantage of a female customer. Do not go here to have your tires installed. Totally BS.Service: Tires

I was Traveling to go see my family who lived seven hours away. While I was driving, my hood unlatched it self and would not stay closed. Obviously this is detrimental and dangerous To my trip. I pulled over and found this auto works not too far away and drove there. This guy, unfortunately I forgot his name, came and asked me if I needed help. I said yes and explain the situation. He immediately took a look to me to hold on and then boom fixed it instantly. He didn t even want me to pay him. He just asked me to leave a review which I was going to do anyway. If you need a quick fixes this is the place they knew what they were doing. I also want to put out there that I went to Ford, the dealership that sold me the car, and they didn t fix the issue because it happened again. This guy at the auto works told me exactly how to fix it when I need it to. He told me exactly what was wrong unlike Ford. If you live in this area I encourage you to give them a stop by for any of your car needs and see if they can help you, they are Lifesavers.

Poor customer service, my car was there for weeks before they completed a repair estimate. It s a Geico authorized shop but i would not recommend to anyone. Talked to Mike multiple times, he gave the same response every time that they will work on it, just to get you off the phone. Do not drop your car there for anything service.

About a year ago, I ran over a curb...backwards and pulled something loose from under my front bumper. I went to Autoworks Body Shop where Mike kindly fixed the problem and refused to charge me for it, saying that, before I turned in my leased vehicle, he'd be happy to fix the dent in the back bumper and that's he'd charge far less than the dealer. I had him do that just this past week and I am thrilled with the results. This is exactly the kind of business I like to use, friendly, timely, reasonably priced and with excellent results.

My experience with Autoworks was excellent. They replaced the front and back bumpers of my Subaru impreza. Setting up the appointment through Geico and with Mike, the autobody manager was easy and convenient. The repairs went well, they did a great job, and it was a seamless process. Highly recommend.Service: Body & TrimService: Body & Trim

I have been using these guys for almost 5 years. I have 4 vehicles, 3 of which are older are require lots of service. My experience has always been that they are honest, do a very good job, and are reasonable with their pricing. Sometimes I check dealer prices and they are always at least double. They have a comfortable waiting room plus a shuttle service that runs all day long. Anyone expecting perfection in the world of auto repair is going to be disappointed no matter where they go.

Helped me out when my brakes failed on the way to Ithaca for a dr appointment. They worked very fast to secure parts, even though one was in Syracuse at the dealership. My car was ready within 48 hours, and they did a great job keeping me in the loop with what was happening. Cannot thank them enough!

Got the water pump replaced in my car. 4 days later the tensioner for the water pump broke and the car stranded me. Got the car towed back to the shop and they wanted more money to fix the tensioner they broke saying it was just worn . Scummy mechanic you re better off somewhere else.

Had my car towed to Autoworks at 11pm on a Tuesday. The mechanics looked at my car the very next day as soon as they were open and were able to give me a reasonable quote for the diagnostics test and a new starter. I was able to pick up my car on Thursday morning. They are very fast, friendly, and provide quick and high quality repairs!

I came here twice. The first time is insured by GEICO, wonderful experience. The second time, they freely fixed my scratches when I went there for a quote. Appreciate it.

Had my Rav4 repaired after hitting a deer. The repairs were scheduled through Geico, my insurance company. Autoworks was fantastic to deal with. Mike, the Body Shop Manager, kept me up to date on everything. My car came back perfect and they even detailed it for me! It looks like a brand new car! We had good experience with Autoworks for years. Not anymore. It started about a year ago when the my tires where put on way too high pressure after they were changed. Changing a headlight this past fall was $ 140 and allegedly took them 1.3 hours while I was sitting there waiting and saw that it was in the shop for only 20 minutes total. Today they claimed that the cabin air filter was dirty again after it had been replaced 5 months earlier already. The difference this time was in price only which almost doubled. Time to look for a more trustworthy auto repair.

I have been a customer of Autoworks since they opened, over 20 years ago. They used to be a decent repair shop. Sadly, I am leaving! They charge for ridiculous trumped up charges, they are rude and will feel fine about letting your car sit for 24-48 before even looking at it. I am disabled and need my wheelchair lift to go anywhere. When they were a shop with integrity, they would prioritize my repairs, recognizing the medical necessity. Now they simply lie and say they will look at your car the day it arrives and you Might** get it back many days hence but plan to pay at least %150 more than anyone else. Since their customers fled due to poor service, they make up for lost quantity of customers by overcharging the chumps who are still left. So disappointing!!!

This happened back in 2014: The check engine light was on in my Volvo s40 and I was due for state inspection. I had it checked out at cole muffler and the Volvo shop downtown first, but ended up going to Autoworks on a friend's recommendation. I offered the front desk person all the information/code readings from the other repair shops. He was disinterested and assured me their mechanics would diagnose the issues and get it fixed. Great! A nice older employee even gave gave me a free ride to work and home from the auto shop in the company van. So far, so good.Long story short, Autoworks ended up misdiagnosing the problem twice over the course of two months of extreme stress and frustration. I spent around $1500 on parts and labor only to still have the check engine light on. Eventually, they diagnosed the issue as "probably the transmission" and then had the nerve to blame me for not suggesting that as the problem in our first meeting. I'm not a mechanic, as I told them from the start, and that's why I paid them $70+/hour to figure out the problem for me. The owner (or maybe his son...?) eventually ended up apologizing to me by phone for them "chasing a ghost" (his words) for so long but had no solution to my troubles. I had to scrap the car (which I would have done immediately had they initially diagnosed a transmission problem) and buy a new one with my now depleted funds. It was a terrible experience.Stick with Cole, and Shade Tree for honest and thorough service.2018 Edit: Varna Auto is on the same road and has repaired my next car with care and thoroughness every time I've gone there. Not a single recurring issue in the past three years. Well worth the price.
