I went to Roe Jan Auto for a simple $30 tire rotation and got fleeced for $700. How did this happen? Read on. My regular mechanic, whom I've used for many years and who specializes in my make of car, wasn't available for medical reasons, so I went to Roe Jan Auto. When the mechanic came to the waiting area to get my car keys I immediately had a bad feeling. The guy looked like he was still in high school. I should've listened to my gut and hightailed it out of there because ten minutes later he came out from the back and announced that in the process of attempting to remove my wheel lug nuts he had broken the studs off. The guy behind the counter was falling all over himself apologizing so he knew that they had screwed up badly. They then told me that due to the particular design of my bearing they could not simply tap out the broken studs and replace them, but would need to replace the entire wheel bearing (cheap fix vs expensive). Tapping out a broken stud and inserting a new one is the standard method of dealing with this situation--but it's not lucrative. This mechanic had managed to break off not just one but THREE studs, which made me wonder if it had really happened accidentally. Breaking three studs is quite a feat. Prior to this fiasco I'd had this car for over 12 years and have had numerous sets of new sets of tires installed and rotated and never had a single broken stud, let alone three.I later spoke to my regular mechanic and found out that what I had been told by Roe Jan Auto was completely false and that it is perfectly possible to tap out and replace the broken studs in my bearing. This was again verified by a second mechanic. But if they had done that they wouldn't have been able to charge me $700 for a new bearing. To top it all off, my regular mechanic (who specializes in my make of car) told me that they had used the wrong type of bolts when they re-attached my wheel. To be avoided.

We have used Roe Jan Auto for all our repairs and other car needs for 20 years, for four different cars. Completely trust them and their work. Honest and reliable.
