After my local mechanic's building was sold to make way for more Brooklyn condos, a friend recommended Urban Classics, who turned out to be way better than my previous mechanic. Straightforward, knowledgable, friendly and communicative (a rarity in garage-land), and no upselling! They talked everything through with me, told me the price and texted me regularly on the status of repairs. Fair price, excellent service - so happy to have found my new repair shop!

The mechanics at Urban Classics Auto Repair are extremely professional and straightforward. The owner, Dave, is amazing. He works at the shop and personally called me twice to keep me involved in the process. He and his mechanics took time to listen to me and not talk to me like I m an idiot. Most impressionable for me is the fact that the workers (mechanics, customer service staff) are not overworked. They close at 5pm and are not open on weekends so I had to leave my car there over the weekend. I did not mind because I could tell that my car was in great hands. They charge more than other mechanics but hey, you get what you pay for. I recommend Urban Classics and I am definitely a customer for life. No more Pep Boys for me.

Daughters car broke down two days before Christmas. She was in Brooklyn, we were in NC. We had AAA tow her to Urban and the experience was great. The car needed a starter and some other safety work and they got the car done so she had it back before New Years Eve. They did what was needed, no upsell and the work was honest and dependable. David was a gem of an employee to work with, I wish all auto repair shops were operated like Urban. They have a customer for life.

Original Review (Follow-up to Owner's response below):The Trunk Lock Actuator broke on my car. Urban Classics charged me $270 for parts and $175 for labor - $445 total. It's been exactly one year and my Trunk Lock Actuator broke again. I bought the replacement part on amazon for $100 and replaced it myself in 20 mins . $100 total.I also had them install a Catalytic Converter Protection Shield. They charged me $350 for parts - I found the same parts for $160 online. I confronted them about it and they didn't have much to say. Conclusion: They drastically overcharge for parts. Their labor costs are slightly more justified since they do decent work and have quick turn-arounds - however I think they also overcharge for labor too.Follow-up to Owner's Response:Hey David, thanks for your response.RE: Catalytic Convertor Shield:The invoice says Exhaust Muffler Shield, Cat Security 2010-2015 GEN 3/ 2012-2017 Gen V . I also looked under the car to confirm that it s Cat Security. This exact product is seemingly around $160 online. There appears to be an up charge of $190 ($350 total) on this Cat Security model?RE: Trunk Lock Actuator Motor:For a genuine Toyota part, the Actuator Motor seems more accurately priced, but still a little high.My preference would have been a cheaper, knock off Actuator - especially since the genuine Toyota Actuator I received broke after a year. It s 2024, there s a lot of competition, and plenty of third party companies in the auto industry are offering decent-to-excellent products for competitive prices.Even if the Amazon replacement Actuator broke once a year, for 4 years, I would still ultimately pay less than I did for the Toyota Actuator (P & L) that did break after a year.Your team is full of well-trained technicians, I m not denying that. However, there are many Youtube videos for simple auto repairs/fixes, that s just the reality. If it took 20-30 mins for a Layman like me to replace the Actuator, then your technicians could probably do it in under 15 min. Take 15 minutes to replace the Actuator and add a generous 45 mins to inspect and remove rust - $174/hour still seems like a lot. Honestly though, I respect working people and labor costs are the lesser of my concerns. Conclusion:I stick by my initial review. I think I was overcharged, especially for parts. As someone who s owned a few 10+ year old cars in NYC: I suggest you take a different approach to Elite Customers vs those who just want a working car. Perhaps give your customers the option to choose if they want to pay the premium for genuine parts .

Urban Classics is a one-of-a-kind automobile repair and maintenance (with a FOCUS on maintenance) shop. Every single individual at UC is customer service and problem solving oriented. It s a rare NYC business. The location is also convenient for dropping off and picking up a vehicle, with the G train around the corner at Bedford & Nostrand. Keeping a car in NYC is a challenge, but this team makes it possible!

Walking in for the first time I didn t know what to expect. I met the owner David who stopped everything to help me. I left my car (2013 Audi A8L)there for a week. Needed major suspension work. I got update s regularly hourly rates saved me $3000. 00 of what it wood have cost at the dealer. Max the specialist was very professional, and overall the staff were very polite and friendly. Can t say enough about urban classics auto service. I highly recommend there service.Adding to my review. Two weeks after getting my car back from Urban Classics I ve gotten two calls out the blue asking me how my car is running. First of all who does this? not even car dealerships. What is this place? Is this NY city? I don t doubt if I get another call because I told them I had only driven my car once since having it back, because I went vacation. Can t say enough about this place. Thanks againOnce again I can t say enough about the owner (David) and his staff. Urban is a very welcoming business. I ve never been there and not been greeted with a warm smile. John my tech is on top of everything and will keep you posted on the progress of your vehicle. I couldn t be happier with this business. Thanks so muchServices: Steering & suspension repair, Wheel alignment, Wiper blade installation

They do shoddy work and will also hold on to your car in order to use it as their own personal vehicle for weeks without telling you. In fact, they'll tell you that they have not had a chance to work on the vehicle in the time it has been with them, but will continue to drive around town, pick up lunch and their friends that are not Urban Classics employees and generally hang out in your car. I only know because I accidentally walked past them doing so in my own car one day. Oh, they'll also bring it back damaged. The gist is I found two strangers hanging out and eating in my car as the shop was on the phone with me telling me that the car was in the garage.Stay far away from this place, they're super shady and deeply inconsiderate. If you have a quote from them, get a second opinion and if you don't see your car out front when you pass by, chances are someone's picking up a date and putting wear and tear on your car at your expense. Full description in the pictures if you have the patience to read it.Services: Electrical repair, Air & cabin filter replacement, Exhaust, Tires, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Wheel alignment, Brakes, A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning, Oil change

This is the most professional, honest, and communicative mechanic shop I have ever used! They will always be my first choice for my car needs!I had major repairs on my vehicle performed here, not only were they patient until I decided whether I want to do the repairs or not, but they contacted me to inform the status and update me on the diagnostics etc.I dealt with John, Max, and the owner, David. All were friendly, understanding, and available whenever I called. The receptionist that takes phone calls was also quick and knowledgeable, and helped out with whatever needed. They actually ended up charging me less than the original estimate because my car didn't need a part they thought would be needed. Very impressive! There are so many shady shops that rip you off, convincing you to do repairs and maintenance you don't even need, and they did just the opposite! The shop is very clean, which makes it a pleasure to walk in!The only downside is, that too many people know how good this place is and they are very busy...See you again, guys!

John and the rest of the team here are absolutely incredible. Our car broke down as we were about to drive back to our home in Massachusetts and we needed to find someone to fix it. We were treated with so much respect and professionalism that if we lived nearby we would have a new mechanic! John not only fixed the issue but also gave me an oil change and topped off all my fluids at a fair price. Thank you so much from me and my family for helping us get home safe!

I don't get their business model. They had me wait over a week to bring my car in by appointment for an oil change, and to check out a potential problem with a wheel bearing. When the appointment rolled around on a Tuesday, they said they'd try to get the car to me by Friday. Not expecting to part with the car this long, I canceled the service.Today I went the extra distance to my old shop in another neighborhood, and they found the time estimate as baffling as I did. They diagnosed the problem with the wheel bearing, replaced it, and completed the oil change - plus I had them add a state inspection and serpentine belt change - all within 6 hrs of dropping off, no appointment necessary.Maybe Urban Classics does a good job (I can't speak to that because I haven't used them), but if a business is operating beyond capacity, I would rather them just say so, so I don't end up postponing for two work weeks (one to wait for appointment, one to wait for the car) something that can happen in one day... I hope this is useful feedback for them.

Believe the hype. Great service, great prices, and HONEST. The dealer told me all 4 brake pads were dangerously low and this shop said it was only the rear pads that needed replacing. They also found a ton of rat droppings in the engine area (dealer failed to mention this) and cleaned it up and sprayed repellent. Glad I found this neighborhood shop. This is now my go-to mechanic.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, Auto brake repair

i had my car towed here with an engine that wouldn't turn over and run.david & his staff took a lot of time and care to unwind a fairly-complex situation which involved several compounding issues.they kept my vehicle inside their shop, on their lift (not outside collecting tickets and debris) while they worked through issue after issue (and there were many!) from programming problems and manufacturer-specific quirks to water damage inside internal electrical components; from supply-side issues obtaining replacement parts to hard-to-locate fuel-pump damage which was causing my engine to be flooded with fuel. this took weeks.these guys kept as cool of a head as i was required to and just patiently worked through it all, clearly documenting each issue, its resolution and its cost, so that at the end of the job, there were no surprises. as a result, i was able to come away with a cleanly and quietly-running car and a clear explanation of the factors which caused the trouble. they even got the car washed before returning it to me.i appreciate the commitment to getting me on the road again, despite the difficulty of this particular job, when it might have been appealing to get my car out of there and free up some real estate in favor of simpler, more lucrative jobs.these guys are solid and ethical and these qualities shouldn't be taken for granted.Services: Electrical repair, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair, Vehicle Inspection, Auto emissions testing, Vehicle safety inspection, Auto maintenance, Oil change

Highly recommend going somewhere else if you want good communication. I ve now had several experiences where I m told that someone will contact me on such-and-such day and then never receive any communication whatsoever. Be prepared to not have your vehicle back for at least a week if you do choose to go here. You have to be very proactive and stay on top of these folks.

It's hard to find a trustworthy and reliable mechanic, but look no further! They are knowledgeable, fair, and friendly. The first time I went everyone at the front desk introduced themselves making me feel more comfortable with trying a new garage. They're super busy so whether it's an oil change or more extensive work, you'll need to drop your car off for a few days. The labor prices are high (it's NYC after all), but the parts were fair priced and they did an excellent job in fixing my a/c.

This was my first experience with Urban Classics after coming off a dealer service contract. Even though I only requested a state inspection and oil change, I was treated as a valued customer throughout the entire process. As I had also asked for a general checkout, they let me know of a potential issue to be monitored, but were quite honest that it is not urgent, and does not need to be repaired right away. If that had been my dealer, I'm sure that I would have been told I need it right away. I will definitely be back, and will not look anywhere else. The positive online reviews are an accurate reflection of my experience.
