This is literally about the size of a trailer, so "hole in the wall"does not describe it. But it is also an experience that the street foodie does not want to miss. If you are in the area, you must try it out. I like to go there after hiking the surface of the moon (Plaza Blanca) and before driving to Taos.

Very good priced food, sells some snacks / eggs / veggies. Note tacos are hard shelled and chicken is pulled/stringy.Highlight is the people working there, the rice and prices.

Easy to miss as you drive into El Rito NM, but that would be a mistake! Superb hospitality, best burgers and home made Mexican food North of Santa Fe! Be sure to stop. Highly recommended.

One of the best places with cheap, legit New Mexican food. Numerous accolades posted on the walls. The owner is also the cook and server. Food takes awhile because it's actually cooked when ordered. 6 tables and super tiny restaurant, but definitely worth the out of the way trip. Red chile is vegetarian but the green is made with pork. Will definitely be back. Love to support our Mom and Pops. A true hidden gem in New Mexico.

I first ate here in 2018 while working down the street at the El Rito Ranger District. It set my personal bar for top-notch New Mexican dining.New Mexican chile is invariably good to great. Many restaurants stop there, knowing full well that the taste will be a unique one and that the rest of the ingredients can be good enough. Not so here, where all the components of the dish are treated with care and attention.NB: Opening time might not be on the dot, and payment is CASH ONLY. Come prepared for both and trust me, it will be worth that minimal effortVegetarian options: The green is pork based, the red is vegetarian.Parking: Park along the street!

We were there a few years ago--but I miss it. Burritos were served in a clear broth--incredible flavor--while retaining all textures. Don't be surprised by French visitors to the restaurant--we were once.

NEW MEXICAN FOOD AT IT'S BESTThis is a must stop every time I am in this part of New Mexico. First time was riding the Great Divide Ride on my bike. It was fabulous then I came back driving a vehicle and the food was still fabulous. I have been back a number of times and have driven many extra miles just to eat here.

Excellent New Mexican cuisine. Small, local place...nothing fancy. But the food is worth the trip. Good service. Dine in or call ahead for pickup. Be aware El Farolito accepts cash only. No credit cards. Note: not terribly wheelchair accessible.

A wonderful little gem, off the beaten path, but very worth the drive! Great food and friendly service. Combo plates are huge and filled with food. Sopapillas are a must!!! Served fresh from the fryer with warm honey! The green chile is hot so watch out.

Loved It! We shared the combo plate and a cherry pie between the two of us. Hands down the tastiest New Mexican food I've had to date. And I am not a dessert consumer typically but the pastry on the pie tasted like Scottish shortbread. Unreal! So delishious! This is a very inexpensive stop and worth every penny. A must stop on your travels!

Every time I visit here I have to come and have the Farolito special! It is the best New Mexican food in the state and therefore the world! The service is always great. The food is fresh and perfectly seasoned. It s a really cute place where everyone can relax and enjoy good food!

What a surprise! Yes, when you arrive you may think, this can't be it, but, YES, this tiny place that looks like possibly an empty, closed business, IS in FACT a place you don't wanna miss! Could be cleaner (the mustard on the table looked as though the former user change vehicle oil and then had no time to wash hands before needing a mustard fix) but fast friendly service and possibly the best New Mexican food you'll have. Yummy burgers, even better onion rings and the coldest pop you'll find anywhere. It's an experience and DEFINITELY one for out of state, country, wherever, guests. Make sure to bring cash, they don't accept debit or credit cards!Enjoy, and take pictures!!!UPDATE!Second visit was during the Studio Tour. Food just as yummy, burger wasn't quite as delish as the first, and no onion rings, but the other dishes, spot on!!!

Absolutely the best Green Chili in northern New Mexico. In fact I have seen nothing to compare it to in southern NM either. When I lived 50 miles from the El Farolito I would make the drive twice a week to eat there.

Tiny restaurant in a tiny town. good food. I would say worth the scenic drive to at least try it. I was not excited that they cooked / heated our food in the microwave because it was to go and part of the Styrofoam box melted into the foods.

We were invited tonite by friends to dine at El Farolitos in El Rito, NM. We are all traveling and it was actually recommended by a restaurant not far from where we're staying. The reviews online seemed to good to be true. However, after dining there I can tell you it is some of the best Mexican food I have ever tasted!! We all got Mexican and agree it is wonderful! The chips and and guacamole , the enchiladas, beans , rice, absolutely everything was delicious! The service was fast and friendly and the cost was affordable! The place is small but who cares! One of those one in the wall delights! Next time we visit New Mexico you can be sure we will return!

Best food I had while in New Mexico. It is a tiny place in a tiny town but the food was outstanding and worth the drive. It will be on my stop every time I visit N.M.

Absolute mandatory stop on my many trips to New Mexico. Without question the BEST Mexican food I have ever had. Have been there numerous times and there is no place better at any price. If I lived in El Rito, they would have to roll be down the block like a wheel barrow because it is impossible to resist. Pure excellence!

I was passing through on my bicycle and smelled the flavors coming from El Farolito. Had to stop. The red chile burrito was among the best red chile I've ever had. Great service and ambiance. If you want slick, don't bother.

Service was poor. The food was pretty bad as well. Maybe at one time this was a worthwhile hole in the wall, but that was not our experience. Waited for over an hour for food. Then inevitably the stuff was cold when it arrived. I asked the server if guacamole arrives before the entrees here and after informing me that they were busy and then texting for a few minutes brought the premade dip out. It was frustrating to watch. If you do go, bring booze and wine to help your suffering.
