I have a 41 year old Porsche 911SC that I took to The Popular Mechanic for some suspension work and an alignment. Some problems were discovered along the way due to the car's age and original condition (worn suspension bushings, and more). Jay is extremely knowledgeable, personable and honest, and a true "Porsche guy." He diagnosed the car's issues, fully explained what was needed and provided repair options every step of the way. He is a passionate perfectionist in the best way and truly wants the best for his customers and their cars. All I can say is, my car rides and handles astoundingly well now. What a difference refreshing the old components made! The entire process was a pleasure and both Jay and Jackie were extremely kind and knowledgeable. I could easily have spent an entire day just talking about Porsches with them. The Popular Mechanic has earned a loyal customer and I would recommend them to anyone with a classic Porsche. Oh and they are thoughtful enough to keep the classics inside and/or covered and out of any inclement weather. Truly a gem of a resource to the classic Porsche community. Thank you!Service: Steering & suspension repair

Jackie and Jay are friendly and knowledgeable. I'm glad to have them close to home, even though I do a fair amount of my own work. It is good to have a mechanic nearby that you can rely on. I recently had a problem with my car's starter and they sorted it out quickly.Service: Engine repairService: Engine repair

I have been extremely happy with the work Jay and his wife have done on my 1987 Porsche 911. Jay was great! Would definitely recommend him. Thank you so much for making my 911 an absolute joy to drive again. Excellent service! Your dedication and automotive knowledge is greatly appreciated!

I have been going to the Popular Mechanic for a number of years, first with my Boxster & now with my Macan S, & can highly recommend their services. Jay is a real enthusiast who knows & loves the Porsche brand. He has recently moved to a great newfacility in Summit, conveniently close to the train station. I would highly recommend the Popular Mechanic for servicing your Porsche.

I have owned over 50 Porsches' since 1980. Do not use the Popular Mechanic.1. On or about 6/27/2016 I asked that The Popular Mechanic repair an intermittent air conditioner problem in my 1994 Porsche.2. On 6/30/2016 I received a voice message that air conditioner was not working but he was working on it.3. On 7/21/2016 I received a voice message that the car was fixed and a relay had been replaced.4. On 7/28/2016 I picked up the car, drove it 5 miles and put it in the garage. Upon pickup I questioned Jay aka Popular Mechanic about the bill. He charged me $1800.00 to install a $30.00 part. I questioned him about the disparity in labor v. parts but he assured me that the car was fixed and I would have no further problem. He also said that his work was warrantied for one year. The air conditioner was working when I picked it up. But again, this was an intermittent problem.5. I then boarded a plane back to Florida and car remained untouched until I returned to NJ on 8/18/2016 to drive the car to New England. The air conditioner was not working.6. I called him and left messages twice on 8/18/2016 to inform him of the problem. I received no return call.7. I called again on 8/19/2016 seven times and left messages. I received no return phone calls.8. I called again after the weekend on 6/22/2016 and left a message. To date I have not received any response.9. On 8/23/2016 I took the car to New Vernon Coach & Motor Works to look at the air conditioner. They confirmed that the air conditioner, reverse lights and fog lamps remained inoperative.

I found Jay three years ago through a PCA event on the dreaded IMS issue, that was held at his spotless shop. Whilst I'm likely the least mechanical guy in the place...his explanations of the problem and solutions were completely comprehensible. I immediately stopped going to my P dealer, whom I felt was completely taking advantage...$1800 quote for TPMS units, etc...Jay has followed the P recommended service intervals & has thoroughly explained every service. Is he cheaper than a dealer? Perhaps...but what I do know is he's done the work himself and has checked my car over completely. That's peace of mind. Can your time clock punching dealer mechanic say the same? Has your dealer sent your oil out to Blackstone for testing? Has your dealer cut open your oil filter to inspect for metal? ...didn't think so, I know mine didn't and when asked, told me 'it's all ok' .

Jay was able to diagnose and replace a worn out gear detent that resolved a shifting issue in a low mileage PCar, whereas several other mechanics said it was a synchro problem and needed a trans rebuild.

Best mechanic ever. Knows his Porsches and can handle it all. Will take the time to explain what he's doing or what is needed in terms anyone can understand. Family run with his wife. Very reasonable on price (compared to dealer).

I called to get a quote for an oil change on a Macan, they quoted me way higher above dealership service.
